  1. The pixies' odd movement was very unsettling for Rusty, making him feel uneasy. Instead of charging or attacking like most monsters did, they stayed hovering or fluttering in one place. Their beady eyes stared him down, blinking every so often. It made him uneasy because he couldn't get a read on them. Were the mobs analyzing their every move, waiting for the opportune time to strike? Or.. maybe they were waiting for more to come, from different directions and this time hiding. "They could be feigning neutrality in order to trick us and let our guard down, we could be surrounded.." He tensed up and moved towards an offensive stance, his coffee-colored eyes darting all over the place. Old habits die hard. Teion's presence made him hesitate. She seemed to be calm and after all, she did say she had been waiting for them. He needed to calm down and stop worrying so much. His eyes turned to watch the pixie fly to Teion's hand.

  2. Rusty stood patiently, waiting for a reply. She probably was mulling it over, deciding whether or she would accept his offer. He was fine with either outcome, he didn't have anything important to do besides level up, but that was less of a task and more of a goal. It was around then that the wind chimes that caught her attentions alerted him to the monsters. He looked around the vicinity until he noticed that Teion was staring upwards. He stared at the creatures, pixies apparently, although it's odd that they were so far up. Odd color schemes and their bodies seemed more animal-like than human. Guess these were the monsters she was looking for, she got up so fast anyway. He equipped his sword again, but he didn't take any sort of offensive stance. Pixies couldn't be very strong, especially if they were that small. Although, if they were pretty weak, he would have to be very cautious. There was a possibility that he could get a crit on one and kill them before she had a chance to tame them. She'd probably kill him or something, Rusty didn't know the girl too well to put that past her.

  3. Rusty let out a sigh, staring at Kaya as she ran off to declare that she wasn't like him. So much for protecting her. It was whatever, he wasn't gonna play damage control. He turned away from the two, choosing to stare off back into the distance. Should he keeping helping her out or go off and do something e- He leaped to the side, barely dodging the barrage of attacks. If he had noticed her any later, he probably would've have died or ended up close to death. The girl had retaliated and with a sword art, most likely her strongest one. The idea that he would be dead where he stood had he not moved when he did shook him slightly. He decided it was best to lay off the ridicule and play it cool. "Everyone does start at green so you should keep it that way. Lucky this isn't real life, you'd be in a lot of trouble." He didn't understand why some people acted so different here, they weren't any less anonymous than the next person. There were definitely logs that recorded the damage and deaths that occurred and if the players escape, the police would definitely have a look at that after. For now, nothing would be done, but that wouldn't last forever. Maybe some people didn't have the strength or guts in real life to act how they do in the game. He would have to make the best of the situation and level up fast to not be at a disadvantage, especially with psychos such as this girl.

  4. "Are you doing Feeding The Enemy?" He asked. "The only quest on this floor that would have a monster in it would be... Deforestation. But nobody would do that alone, that suicide. Gemini and that inner demons crap don't count.." If he was right, then she was just looking for a familiar to bring along with her. He had tried that too, but the quest went wrong. "I get that, sometimes you just want to relax a bit and take time for yourself." He wasn't sure if that was a hint to leave her alone, usually, people had to imply it because it was hard for them to just outright say 'piss off.' Kaya didn't seem to care if the player wanted some time alone or didn't want anyone to help with her quest, declaring that she'd help her and that she would wait with her. "I should just ask if she needs help, it's not like I have really anything better to do." He thought to himself. "Hey, if you need some help, I could search around here for the monster. In case you're wondering why I'm offering to help, I don't really have anything better to do and I'll be able to get some skill points out of damaging and/or killing mobs. I won't really talk or bother you unlike Officer Friendly over here."

  5. He just stared at her, unfazed by what she was saying. "You know, if you weren't so short and small, I'd actually find that threatening. But coming from you, it's actually kinda cute." He snickered, although his expression faded away when Kaya came back. "I'm not fighting, I just assumed this girl was ready to fight us so I took out my weapon, although now after taking a minute to listen to her I realize I was wrong to assume." He lowered his weapon, but he didn't unequip it. His defensive stance returned back to a lazy slouch. He watched the girl start to walk away from them and listened to what else she had to say. "Yeah, you're hidden alright. Hidden underneath that cloak cause you're too scared to show your face. You sound and act like you're younger and you do know this is a video game right? I'm not gonna take you seriously if you talk like that, I mean its not like you're some crazy hero or legend. You don't even have an orange cursor to scare me with, something you mentioned earlier. Everyone here is a kid, teenager or young adult. I'm probably 2 or 3 years older than you, so I really don't know who you're calling boy." He stops for a second and jokingly points the sword at her before de-equipping it. "Anyway, I'm sorry if I made you feel bad cause I decided to equip my sword. I had to make sure you weren't a threat and I didn't want to caught without my weapon out. You can still say hello or whatever, although preferably without killing me." He said this with a genuine tone even though he expected her to just leave anyway. He had just insulted her so it would make sense if she'd rather just leave.

  6. "OWW! What the hell?!" He yelled, holding his foot in pain. She really was an airhead. "Took you a long time to figure out.. and probably a lot of brainpower." He muttered that last part. "Don't try to act innocent, doesn't work on me. Couldn't you have just punched me in the shoulder or something?" He turned to the other girl. "If you're trying to find something, shouldn't you be walking around and searching for instead of just sitting there? It's probably not gonna come to you if you're just here, you'd cover way more ground and would find it faster than just waiting. You don't always need others to fight monsters Kaya, especially if you're a high level. Maybe if there's more than one I guess. It's not like you can't just get away using a teleport crystal or run." He paused. "Anyway, are you okay? You don't seem that well, even though we're probably bothering you right now."

  7. That was a first for him. They completely ignored him and his question, but it wasn't as if they didn't notice him, they didn't care enough t- "Wait, what the f***, that's Kaya, how the hell does she not recognize me?! I helped her become a cook and she forgets about me?!" It stung slightly that she didn't remember him even after all this time, especially since he assisted her in doing such an important quest. Guess he was that forgettable. Speaking of that, the purple-haired one responded to his question with a frown. Mad because he asked a question? Although, considering the fact that she had been alone and had just been sitting there while alone, she likes solitude and they both intruded into her personal space or she didn't like people. Well, it was probably both. There was a ton anti-social people here which he found very confusing because if they didn't like people, why the hell did they join a multiplayer game. Maybe masochism and antisociality went together? He still wanted to someone acknowledge him, just so he could have closure. He moved towards them, unequipping his sword just as he reached them. "Hey... Kaya." He said, sending a cold look her way. "So yeah.. why are you two ignoring me? You clearly heard me since you both looked my way and it's not like you two were having a discussion between friends because you two just met each other and you-" He nodded towards Teion.  "were just showing bubblehead over here directions, or am I wrong? I kinda understand why Kaya ignored me because her head is waaaay up there, still kinda rude to just brush me off. So what's your reason? Are you in a bad mood or something?"

    @Kaya @Teion

  8. He didn't even have a chance to speak before being pulled along by her towards the field, although he most likely escaped her grasp halfway there. Still, not wanting to be left behind, he chased after, although by a good distance. He hadn't run in a long time and he was still adjusting to it here. He missed being able to run freely and fast, the wind rushing by his face as he sprinted and the rush of adrenaline that he felt. While it was exhausting to catch up to Kaya and he felt like he was going to die, it felt good. Although he didn't because he didn't want other to see, he felt the urge to smile.

    Kaya had found a material with ease, almost too quickly. He decided to pitch in to help her cause and find some more material, but nothing really turned up as he searched. There had to be many lying around, he just couldn't see it. He sighed, scratching the back of his head as his eyes darted upwards to look at the fields that seemed to go on forever. Dots littered the horizon, some bigger the other, but all over. Looming on the horizon to the south was the Town of Beginnings while mountains reigned supreme over it, from the northeast to the northwest. He had never seen a place like this floor and especially not to this scale. It was strange how real it felt, almost as if this was another world he was standing in. The grass, the flowers and the leaves on the trees rustled in the virtual wind, the same wind that left a crisp touch to his skin. The grass felt smooth and slippery to touch while the dirt itself felt moist and full of life that didn't exist. The existence of Aincrad was morbid but beautiful at the same time. This could very well be his tomb, but what was wrong with dying in such a beautiful landscape, one that seemed to surpass the real one. The real world was violent, painful, grim place. All of this felt quiet and serene, there was no talking, honking, yelling and certainly, there were no noisy trains to interrupt the silence. Just chirping and the wind's hushed whisper. It was perfect.. almost. He gazed upon the landscape, taking it in with a smile that forced its way onto his face. Beautiful...

    "Hello.... Perhaps might I ask what you are doing? Most players are out farming monsters, but you two remain here"

    The grin on his face disappeared immediately as he turned on his heel to the person who accompanied the voice. The person was hooded, the cloth hiding their face and any concealed weapons and items. He took very little notice to the awkward, feminine tone that they spoke with, acting on his impulses. He equipped his weapon without hesitation, lifting and extending his arm all the way so that the rapier was eye level and pointed directly at the stranger. "Who are you and what do you want?" He asked with a cold and emotionless tone. Their level was much higher than that of Kaya and his, the cloak assisting to the perception that this person was a threat to them both, so he had reason to arm himself immediately. While he knew he most likely would not be able to defeat this player in combat, that girl would at least be able to escape. He did not know her very long or well, but her mannerisms and appearance resembled that of his younger sister. This was most likely why he was acting protective of her now in face of this stranger.

  9. He got the feeling she didn't understand what he about, nothing he said was anywhere near interesting enough for her to have the look on her face. He didn't want to assume because he had just met her and maybe she was just hyper or something, but the thought did arise. Yes, it did. "Yeah, but there's more to th-" And she was gone. "I tried at least." He thought, okay with doing just that as he turned on his seat. Until he heard her voice again. "Oh.." He had planned to ask her if she needed help before she walked off. "Uh.. you don't have to do that look." He said, appearing unaffected by what appeared to be an attempt to act cute. "I've seen those eyes way too many times, I have my sister to thank for that." The thought that she could be mentally disabled went away after that, there's no way this girl could act so air headed and then come back and try to use a puppy stare to coax him. Well, not necessarily, but that was weird enough to raise his suspicions.

  10. She acted a lot younger than she appeared to be, especially since she was acting on impulse based on what she's saying. "No, not really." He sighed. It was a side quest that did end death for a lot of low-leveled players. A lot of people felt like they were strong enough to take on the boars of Floor 1 by themselves and then ended up dying. "You either kills mobs or search for it, although killing mobs gives you a much higher chance of finding one or more while searching is tedious and only gives you one but is safe. Also, forgot to mention, but this quest decides what profession you are going to be. I guess it gave you cook for some reason, although it's the same process regardless of what you choose. He said a few so maybe 5 - 10 materials would be good, although the quest tracks you by time spent for looking instead of the number of materials you manage to retrieve. Probably because it never asks you for a set amount, as you heard back there."

  11. Rusty exhaled in relief, it was just him being paranoid. They didn't really seem to know each other and both seemed to be out of it, the purple-haired one sitting there, unfazed by the girl who tripped and the girl who tripped.. who had no qualms about running up to a person who she didn't know and asking them for help, even if she was lost. Although, it was a little suspicious that she had her weapon equipped. He decided to do the same and keep his weapon in his hand instead of sending it back into his inventory. "If I don't move now and show myself, they're gonna think I'm a creep when they discover cause they probably. Better if I do it now, let me just..." Instead of outright showing himself and coming forward, he walked parallel to them twenty feet away to make it seem like he had just passed by before stopping as he 'noticed' them. "Hey!" He yelled. "What are you two doing out here?"

  12. "You know could've just asked someone for money, I could've payed for it." Rusty remarked, sitting nearby. "10 col is worth like two boars, or something like that." He had been sitting there for a while, mulling over recent events. Although, if he was going to be honest to himself, the only reason he was doing so was because he had nothing better to do. It wasn't until he could make out words from the ever-so present chatter inside that his thoughts were interrupted. He had turned to see the chef giving food to a girl, asking for food. "Also, there's no hunger bar, you won't actually die of hunger in this game. Now you're stuck in some crappy side quest." He paused for a second. "Do you know how to get materials? Cause you'd need to leave the safe zone to do so and probably kill some monsters while you're at it. If you're even strong enough.."

    @Kaya

  13. "I guess she didn't hear me right.. whatever." He sat up on his chair. "That's kind of cold though, even for me. I'd save them if I can, I mean I won't like if they're an asshole or killed people, but I'm not one to judge them. I can't go around playing judge, jury and executioner. Now, if you mean sacrificing yourself for someone else, then that's a different story. Uh.. put it this way, if I was scared of people possibly betraying me or killing me later, why would I make friends? I could stay inside one of these hotels or my shop and not have to worry about anyone offing me whenever they please. I don't know about you, but I'd rather die than let someone die for nothing just cause I hated them or was scared of them." He sighed. "Yeah, you definitely have.. I'm just level 8. You're five times my level, basically. I have to start grinding or something, I don't want to be one not able to go to the new floors cause I'm not strong enough to kill one monster."

    @Ruby

  14. "Do you prioritize your life though? Who heals you when you get hurt?" He asked, curious. "Well.. if one were to form a group to fight a boss or something, there should be more than one support just in the case the other gets hurt.. That makes sense." He started to run over strategies in his head that he imagined could work, although one of the main ideas was to just have a ton of support and people who can do damage. Still, it was a bit more complicated than that considering people could have varying skills that could classify as support. "I was actually meaning to get that skill, but I haven't really put in any work in to leveling up at all." He added before closing his mouth to continue hearing what she had to say. "The frontlines? That's.. I'm probably not gonna end up joining that, one cause I'm such a low level compared to the top players and two, I don't really know how much use I'd be. Wait, what level are you now? Are you close to 50?"

    @Ruby

  15. While he had been told previously about the 6th floor's humidity, Rusty never imagined it feel so real and annoying. Beady, little droplets of sweats surfaced from the pores on his skin as he hiked through the dense foliage, brushing past rain-covered leaves and bushes. For a game meant to kill a big chunk of people, if not all, a lot of detail was put into it. What a waste of talent. Speaking of waste, he was wasting a ton of water, be it to just splashing his face with cold water to prevent himself from dying of heat exhaustion, even though that probably was not a feature in the game or just to keep himself hydrated. Every minute he spent in the jungle added to his regret of not just offing himself when this game first started. Although, his biggest regret was not getting a sword or a machete or something that could cut through all these dang leaves. "Why does there have to be so many f****** leaves?" He muttered as he continued forward. No, he just had to get the sword that was the least fit to cut through anything, a rapier. A dumb pointy thing that's used for fencing, not for duels. Fencing. "Look at me, I know how to fence. I'm so athletic! Hey, what sport did you play when you were high school? Oh I fenced. If I had a time machine, yep, I'm going straight for the guys who made that stupid sport and 'rapier.' Idiots." Eventually, ranting due to exhaustion and anger because of that exhaustion was too much energy and he just pouted throughout the jungle.

    "Oh my god! Someone! Finally!" Rusty stopped in his place, his brown eyes darting around the place, searching for the source of that noise. He moved silently, finding a place to hide before materializing his weapon. If he wasn't ready to fight for his life at any moment, he might as well not have it. "Crap, there's someone here. That sounded genuine, but it could be a ruse to lure me out." He peeked from his position, staring at the two girls. Odd. One of them was on the floor and the other was sitting by a tree. He took note of that and  then started peered around. He had heard months before of guilds/groups attacking a singular player to rob them. Sometimes they would have one person feign innocence or plead for help and when someone took the bait, the rest of them would come out and hold them at sword point. It was genius considering nobody who wants to keep their life will run or try to fight against 4 or 5 other people, so nobody has to kill anyone if they didn't want to and they would still get items. Of course, this didn't look that similar to those stories, but you never know. "..Do I go?" He mumbled, pondering over whether or not to step forward.

  16. "Hmm.. honestly, I'd rather be a scout then. I mean, it's kinda dangerous to be anything else. If you heal people, you're most likely a priority for any monsters because you heal any damage they do. A tank takes damage as their job and a damage dealer has to try to avoid damage. But how would I even go about making a 'build' like that.. anyway, you're a support, how does that go for you? Do you ever fight monsters by yourself?" He asked, curious. There was more to this game than what he had originally thought. Although, this wasn't that unique to SAO actually. At least now he knew better and he could try to make a build like Ruby had described or at the very least get stronger through leveling up if it was too late for him to make a build. Maybe he could start up his shop again.

    @Ruby

  17. He walked back in, avoiding eye contact until he sat back down. "Ugh... I'm not gonna drink the rest of that.. sorry, you were saying something.. uh I guess I'm just going for damage and evasion. And I want to have a lot of HP so I don't die so... But I'm guessing a lot of people build around some sort of archetype, so they max out healing abilities if they're a healer or something, which is probably what you mean right? Honestly, I don't really have an idea on how to level up right. I'm probably gonna end up doing something wrong and messing my stats up permanently." Another problem was he wasn't really leveling up at all, having only gone up once or twice in the past few months. He wasn't really putting work into going up. "What about you, do you have a sort of build you're going for?"

    @Ruby

  18. "Sorry, I probably shouldn't have even mentioned it. It's just odd being called Rusty." He hadn't really been thinking when he made the username, but he planned to just make another account with a username that he'd liked more. Considering she reacted weird when he gave her his name, Ruby was probably just a username. Obviously, he was the only one who would be stupid enough to give their own name here. "....Huh?" He stared at her again with a confused look on his face. "Build, what the hell is she talking about?" He wasn't that aware of the lingo used by various players, like DPS and such. He was curious, but never enough to ask someone. Finally, he grabbed his drink and decided to see what was so good about alcohol that it was in this game. He took a big gulp out of it and it was at this moment that Rusty knew, he fucked up. Immediately, he felt the strongest urge to throw up because of the taste and that was clearly evident by the hand he placed on his mouth to prevent himself from vomiting his guts onto this girl. He got up and ran outside where he vomited what he had drunk into the nearest bush. It was disgusting, he didn't know anyone could drink that stuff. The taste was still in his mouth too, something he couldn't get out.

    @Ruby

  19. He exhaled in relief, at least he wasn't the only one that didn't know better. Although there were beta testers who shared some info as to help, it didn't really help that much considering the changes made to the game before launch. Doesn't matter now though, a tutorial would be useless. He made a note to figure out little things like these vanity drinks before this situation occurred again, although it probably wouldn't. "Hi Ruby." He greeted in returned, graceful as ever. "Uh.. my name is Kurusu Gl- just Kurusu, actually. Unless you want to call me Rusty.. poor choice of a name, I know." He decided to refrain from giving his given name. It'd be for the best since he could be tracked in real life if they escaped. That would not be good for him and his family, especially if the people he told his name to were violent or psychotic.

    @Ruby

  20. "Well.. they should." He mumbled under his breath. He sighed. "Honestly, I was just lying cause I didn't know it didn't cost money, I just assumed. I mean it's not like there's an in-depth tutorial.. unless I missed it or something." It was a little odd though that they added alcohol you couldn't get drunk from. That's like giving armor that doesn't protect you. What's the point? Still, at least 12-year-olds couldn't get shitfaced and stumble to their death or something. That'd be bad. "I guess I'll talk to you." Although he never really engaged in conversations before, he made a decision before to try to be a little more social if the occasion arose. This girl seemed alright too, at least she didn't have some weird superiority complex like some other girl who's name started with K. If that's what she even had. That's definitely what it felt like though.  He didn't know any specific item so he asked the bartender for the drink she had. "What's your name?"

    @Ruby

  21. "Wait what.." He muttered, a dumbfounded look on his face. He was under the impression that it costed Col to purchase vanity drinks here, but apparently not. That should've been obvious though, now that he thought about it. Why would items that give no status effects cost anything? "I probably shouldn't have only bought drinks with buffs." His eyes darted to the bartender. He didn't want to seem like an idiot, especially not in front of this girl. "Well, I know obviously, its just that I'm pretty sure I can't drink cause I'm not 20 yet, I'm not dumb." He had no idea if that was even remotely true, but considering that this was advertised to kids, just maybe there was a lock of sorts to prevent this sort of thing. He turned back to his glass water, trying to hide the fact that he was just spouting bullshit to save face.

    @Ruby

  22. The players were much more spread out now that more floors had been reached and in fact, would continue to do so until the game ended. A hundred floors is way too many for such a small player base, especially one that is decreasing ever so often because of death, although floor 1 would most likely always have people in it considering its the beginning. It was a thought Rusty had contemplated. He didn't care much though, he didn't converse much with anyone anyway. He adjusted himself ever so slightly on the rickety old stool, trying to find a position that was comfortable before giving up, accepting that it was futile. His eyes turned to see the girl that had entered the bar, not giving her much of a thought as he drank his glass of water. He was saving his monies for desperate times, not really having a source of income to replenish his supply.

    @Ruby

  23. "Nope I don't mind, go ahead and sit." He said, looking up at the guy. This guy was stacked with items or at least he looked like he did to Rusty. The crown was a odd addition, maybe he took this game a little too seriously, although it wasn't that rare. There was plenty of role-players in the game, although much less than in normal, non-deadly games. "Whatever floats their boats, gotta keep their mind off it somehow... forgotten king of what now? Is that guild or something? Never heard of them." He tossed his last rock into the river below. "I'm Kurusu Glenn, nice to meet you. Hate my username, in case you're wondering why I didn't introduce myself like that, although feel free to use it if you want. Anyway, what's with the crown? Is it just an accessory or do you actually get buffs from it?"

  24. Rusty's mind drifted as he mindlessly threw rocks into the river that flowed through the town. He sat on the ledge of one of the many stone bridges that were created to allow passage between the two halves of the town. Boredom was something he had become accustomed to, considering he never really left the safe zone of the floors. Although each new floor was different, they all used the same assets and at times, animations. In fact, the animation of the river below him was something he could recreate if given the tools. It was an odd feeling to have since he was trapped in a deadly video game that would fry his brain if he died or someone took it off. He contemplated the thought that he could die in this game, never seeing the embrace of the real world again. It was a chilling idea, but.. they would get out eventually no? Decent progress was being made to clear the floors and people were definitely working in real life to find away to brick the NervGears and free them all. It was probably only matter of time. Hopefully.

  25. 'Where does the snow go exactly? I don't think it has ever stopped snowing here and it never gets warm enough for it to melt so theoretically, by now, this floor should be filled to the brim to the snow. Does the game just melt it or erase it away? Hmm..' These were the sorta of thoughts that passed through Rusty's mind as he peered through the window, seated inside a booth in one of the many inns on the floor. On the table in front of him was wooden cup holding hot chocolate and a wooden bowl with nearly-untouched porridge that had become lukewarm. He had many useless thoughts such as this one since he'd stop venturing past the safe zones, although he had his reasons. Still, he was saddened by the deaths of many people who he had gotten to known. Some of them he would even go as far as to call them friends. He hadn't really met or seen anyone since. Speaking of which, it had been ages since anyone last came to his shop. After a few months, he just stopped making anything. It was a shame.

    His eyes drifted back to his meal and he began to eat from it, deciding to at least eat some of it and not let that money go to waste. It wasn't that great, he could probably do better, but it would have to do. After eating almost three-quarters of it, he put his utensils down. The floor and this inn in particular had a lot less people than before. Although he was glad progress was being made in the game, the population was more spread out the floors now. He felt a little bad about that, although he didn't particularly enjoy meeting random people who decided to just introduce themselves, he was particularly fond of at least talking once in a while. It had been weeks, no months since he actually talked to someone besides the occasional 'excuse me' or 'sorry.' All there was now for him was silence. He sighed. 'Wonder what my sister is up too right now.'
