Starrine

Starrine glanced up at her acquaintance, a bit frustrated, but not even close to be willing to give up. If things got to their worst, she would retreat. She just hoped that it wouldn't have to come it that. Shifting her stance to fit her defensive stance, she lifted her arms, depending on her speed to hit the monster. Once more jumping around to make sure she wasn't hit, Starrine aimed her sword at the creature, praying that it'd hit this time. Of course not; her sword sailed past the creature, and it jumped towards her, raking it's tusks across her leg. She whimpered in frustration again, jumping back into a defensive stance once more. Why was this so difficult? Was it just karma? Bad luck?

Starrine gulped as she blocked another bump of the boar's horns. Her health was already almost halfway down.. Focus, Starrine! Narrowing her eyes in determination, she took a few steps backwards. Nodding as Hirru shouted at her, she doggedly maneuvered around the boar, trying to focus on the backside. "Alright.. I can do this," she whispered to herself, once more bringing her starter sword to attacking height. With a breathy sigh, she spun around, and ran past the boar, aiming a harsh blow at it's side. Spinning around, she huffed in frustration, knowing she hadn't hit it. This battle wasn't going well. Well, at least the boar hadn't hit her this time.

Starrine lifted her brows as he spoke, then pointed at a few little boars. "Slimes, eh?" She mumbled quietly, and nodded. Seemed easy enough. She approached the boar, holding her breath with her curved sword in her hand. Being her first time fighting, she lifted her arm uneasily, unsure of how combat in this game worked. She exhaled a deep breath she'd been holding in, and sprinted at the low level creature, fear still gripping her in the back of her mind. She pushed away the thoughts of dying from a simple failure, and pushed her blade forward. Success! Her blade sank into the monster's flesh! However, she had a bit of trouble ripping it out, earning herself a hard knock from the boar's tusks. Stumbling backwards, she held her sword at the ready, preparing herself for another attack.

Starrine watched with a grimace as he regained his footing, lifting her shoulders apologetically. This wasn't really going well for her. Of course, the thought of making friends hadn't even crossed her mind until now. Blinking a set of wide, amber eyes, she allowed herself a peek at him. A bit taller than her, stockier as well. She waited for him to make some kind of movement, seemingly examining her for a moment before making up his mind. Breathing a tiny, inaudible breath of relief, her smile returned. Shaking hid hand in a polite greeting, she tilted her head, a short laugh escaping her mouth.

"It's nice to meet you, too, Hirru. I'm sorry we had to meet by me running into you," she giggled, pulling her hand away to cover her mouth, "My apologies for being so rude," she continued, shortly bowing to him. Straightening her posture once more, her gaze fixated on his, pulling upwards a bit. "Oh, uh.. I'm not really sure, myself." Starrine admitted, "I.. just know that I have to fight, is all. I assumed this would be the place to start," she said, gesturing to the field filled with low-level monsters. The girl glanced back up again, shyly shuffling her feet. She wondered if it would be too rude to ask if he could help her out. "..Got any tips for a newbie?" She asked with a little chuckle, once more reaching up out of habit to sheepishly scratch her neck. This was oddly formal for a death game.

Starrine stayed in the Town of Beginnings for what felt like too long. Shocked, of course, but.. Wasn't the only way to leave the game to beat it? Wouldn't she have to go out and fight? Doubt clouded her mind, and she wandered around the streets. With no money, it wasn't like she could go into an inn and lock herself away like so many others had already done. The only path forward looked like fighting her way out. But she was scared. With a gulp, she pulled her curved sword out of it's sheath, examining it. A sword was her best friend now, huh? This wasn't a joke? She silently prayed that her mother and little brother wouldn't try to remove her NerveGear.

Making up her mind, she took a deep breath, and started towards the entrance to the town. With her gaze fixated on her stumbling, nervous feet, she wondered if she'd die. At the same moment a chill shot up her spine, Starrine slammed into another player, falling back on her butt. "Ahh, I'm so sorry, I--" she paused mid sentence, looking up at the boy she'd run into. Breathing in a swallow of unusually cold air, she realized she still had her mouth open. "Oh, um.. I'm really sorry, I wasn't watching where I was going," she spluttered with a sheepish laugh, rubbing her head nervously and pulling herself off the ground. He looked like he was quite a bit more experienced than her. ".. I'm Starrine," she said after a moment, smiling shyly as she offered her hand to him.

About: History/personality

History :: Shika, more likely known as Starrine on SAO, was born and raised in Japan. She lives with her mother and little brother in a small home. Her father left the family while she was very young, and she doesn't really remember him at all. Shika's little brother is about 2 years younger than her, and tends to stay locked up in his room. However, considering Shika's outgoing personality, the two have always shared a unique bond, and are very close. He is a rather closed off person, and keeps to himself. Her mother is very sweet, but is nearly never home due to work. She works most of the day every day, with only a couple days off per week to provide for the two. Shika was affected oddly by this, and usually stays in the house, trying to fill any boredom with video games. When SAO came out, she was immediately intrigued, and put her savings into buying the game and a set of nervegear early for her birthday. Being her first full dive MMO, she discovered she was into something.. a bit more serious than she'd originally thought.

Overall Personality :: At first glance, Starrine looks like a rather shy, introverted person. At first, she is. After sticking around her for a bit longer, however, you'll find that she's actually very outgoing and lighthearted, always trying her best to keep the mood bright and make friends with everyone. She's willing to do practically anything for her friends, and if something is asked of her, she will do her very best to provide her best service. She's very bubbly and sweet, if you can get past her stubborn core. She refuses to let something, or rather someone, go once she's got a hold on it. She's always been better with virtual friends, for some reason, and isn't very good at socializing in person, hence her reason for connecting with the internet, rather than real life friends. If you can get past her reckless, stuttering, stubborn layers, she can be a very valuable friend.. or a very annoying foe.

Virtues:

Reliable :: Starrine is very reliable and is a good person to trust. She gets all of her tasks done as soon as possible, and keeps her mind set on an objective until she's completed it. She doesn't get distracted easily, but if she does, It's usually for a good reason. She almost never breaks a promise, and does her best to keep that reputation. Of course, if her spirits are down, her determination is lowered, and she's not nearly as reliable.. Then again, you may find her moping around with nothing to do. But, being in the world of SAO, there's no time to mope.

Enthusiastic :: Starrine is very enthusiastic, which is strange, for the situation her and all of the other players of SAO are in. Somehow, she keeps her head high and smiling, always ushering others to go on, and fight for their lives. She is practically a ball of light when it comes to enthusiasm, and you can often find her encouraging others to cheer up and look at the brightside. It's not often you can put a damper on her enthusiasm, but there are some things that will get her down. She prefers not to speak about them, however.

Innocent :: Starrine is one of the most innocent people you'll meet; despite killing monsters and protecting people from PKs, she's actually quite innocent in the fact that she is child-like. Anything revolving around.. well, inappropriate matters, or even crushes, heck, even love itself, completely flusters her, and she goes into a mode of complete stuttering and tries to avoid the conversation. Many think it's silly to see her like this, often taking advantage of it to make her go into 'flustered mode.'

Flaws:

Tongue-tied :: As mentioned above, because Starrine is so innocent, she often gets tongue-tied and flustered. She doesn't know how to deal with uncomfortable situations, and will go into a state of embarrassed spluttering, not being able to make sensible sentences. She also tends to get tongue tied when she's with strangers, a crush, or someone she's intimidated by. Sometimes, she simply just doesn't know what to say, and begins stuttering and putting too much thought into her words.

Stubborn :: Starrine is very stubborn. In fact, so stubborn that it may be one of her worst flaws. Once she's put her mind to something, she's set, and won't remove her sights from it until she's done what she wants to. Very few people can convince her against what she's decided, and if you're able to.. You must be someone very important to her. If you do convince her against it, she gets pouty and mopes around until something else cheers her up.

Reckless :: Starrine is very reckless, despite what you'd think about the cheerful girl. She often goes into situations without thinking, causing her to get uncomfortable and regret it, or even get hurt. She's willing to sacrifice herself for her friends and loved ones, and will throw herself into battle to protect the innocent, even if it means getting injured. She's often scolded for this, however, she doesn't intend on stopping [not like she could] any time soon!
