  1. Pick sighed, putting away his golden axe. He really had gotten a lot stronger, and the familiar bonuses that his owl gave him despite the fact that he's sleeping right now was excellent. With the one additional damage along with a few more after he spends some skill points on increasing his familiar's abilities, he should be a decent damage dealer and use that damage to farm not only materials but Col as well. This would make it so he can literally become the richest man on his own without the assistance of other players. Of course, this would make it slow, and would give him a lot of work in comparison to as if he can literally just get Col from the bodies of victims. Pick smirked, looking back at the fisher man and he met his eye. Pete laughed, "Well done, buddy, I think that's going to be it."

Pick was surprised that he managed to beat the fish to half of its original health. Pick had expected this quest to take longer than it took, and Pick was very glad that he was able to successfully deal damage to the fish multiple times. The new sword arts that he had in his arsenal was a great addition to his abilities as a fighter, and soon enough, he might even become a very powerful damage dealer, and not just a lucky individual. He could strike the fish one more time, and the fish would no longer have its life. If he managed to do the same thing, he could defeat it in just three turns of combat, which would allow him a lot of time afterwards to gather materials for his shop and for purchasing other items. Pick smirked, jumping high into the sky and using his sword art to finish off the mob.

Pick would do this sword art once again. He had enough energy to keep using this exact skill, so it was perfectly fine for him to keep using this sword art. There was no point of using his rank one sword arts anymore, which is good, because that means he was making progress as a result. Pick sighed, beginning to activate the sword art and then pulling out the weapon for a super long wind up. It was so long that the fish did not expect it. Pick swung the axe and striking the fish with his golden axe before he prepared to dodge the attack. The sword fish charged forwards and Pick jumped, allowing the sword fish to completely miss him as it went under the water again. Before long, it had recovered enough to reappear from the water which would allow the combat to continue. "Good hit, young one." Pete said.

The fight had started. Unlike regular fishing, this fishing required that Pick defeat the sword fish, not only catch it. This was a big fish, while the other fish that is caught using fishing were small ones that won't be too useful. Pick smiled, getting out the golden axe that he had as he watched the sword fish fly in the air - a fish that can fly, why is he not surprised? Pick smirked, winding his axe back as he tried his new sword art, the ultimate breaker that brought the axe up like an uppercut, and he was unable to make contact with the sword fish because this was the first time that he had fought on water. The sword fish responded by charging at the man, and Pete, in which Pick ducked and Pete simply sat there doing nothing but smoking a cigarette. "You got it newbie," He said.

Pick got onto the fishing boat with Pete, looking forwards to getting this quest done sooner than later. With his luck, he should be able to fish up the sword fish that Pete wanted with one hook or perhaps two - indeed, this was the confidence that Pick had in his abilities to manipulate the RNG with his luck in this game. People may say that he cannot control luck, but Pick does not believe that he cannot. Pete got into the boat right after him, and then the two players were out into the waters. Soon enough, the two players came to a stop in the middle of the water with the fishing hook out, and when he felt a tug, Pick began to pull on the rod and he realized that it was too heavy for him to do it himself. Pete came to assistance, and then the massive fish came out of the surface.

Objective Complete - Catch a Sword Fish for Pete (CD: 6+)

  6. Pick watched as the man nodded before heading back to the back of the room and pulling out a jar of materials. Materials, as in worms that can be used to search for fishes. A good bait is required to get good fish, even Pick, an inexperienced man in terms of fishing knew that fundamental. Hopefully, this game made it easier for fishing to be successful, because he did not want a repeat of the feeding an enemy quest. He wanted to get this quest done in a day, not wait for a long time in order to complete the quest. The owl was currently hiding in the woods outside of the sea. There was no way for Pick to communicate with Emerald this way, but he would still receive the damage boost that would be provided to him by the owls. Pick sighed, he would have to get the owl a costume eventually.

  7. It was then that the old man came from the back of the room. He was old, but he was tall and strong - probably from all the NPC fishing that he did the whole time since the beginning of the game. Pick smiled, standing up from his chair and extending his hand to shake the old man's hand who had been polite enough to offer it first.

"Well, well, another quest taker, huh? So where's the parcel? Where's my fishing rod. A lot of players have been trying to get this quest done without doing all the previous quests, which I don't understand because it's supposed to go in sequence." The old man, Pete said.

Pick smirked, handing the fishing rod to him before speaking, "There are simply some people who are confused, or ignorant, or just stupid, but I'm not one of those people. Here you go, sir." Pick finished.

Objective Complete - Deliver Fishing Pole to Pete

  8. Pick walked into the place - the name was Ol' Pete's and the inside was surprisingly messy for an NPC house. Well, Pick actually sort of expected it, since he was a fisher man who were always out with players helping them with the beginner quests and accompanying them. Pick was relieved that there were still friendly NPCs in this game, but there were literally no one around. He sat down in a random location and checked all the fish in the walls. He had heard about the fishing skill in this game, which made it so that you can fish for fishes that turned into materials and sometimes, you can even get a treasure chest at the bottom of the sea. Of course, Pick liked the concept, but it was difficult to get the treasure chest, and gatherer skill was generally better than the fishing skill since materials could be found easier that way.

Objective Complete - Go to Ol' Pete's

  9. Pick needed to go get that fishing pole to the guy - his name was Pete. Pick was glad that he was about to finish the beginner's quest series, and after this, the tutorial was basically over. Although this wasn't particularly the tutorial, since there was actually no tutorial for this game, and the purpose of this entire quest line was so that the players can understand the general gist of the game, and how every thing really worked. Pick walked through the first floor until he reached the only place on the first floor with the only body of water. There was a house right on the shore where Pete would be staying in for Pick to be able to talk to and start the quest. Pick had heard rumors of what the quest was like, so it shouldn't be that hard for him to beat this quest with ease.

  10. Pick listened to the man as he he began to explore the options that the group has against extremely high-leveled players... players that Pick had heard of players talking about in the lower floors. These were the players known to be extremely high leveled and can defeat a lot of things that come their way. What Pick wanted was for one of these high-leveled players to join them. Of course, nothing ever had to be done through voluntary motives, as long as Pick is able to find a way to force players to join their cause, even those on the front lines when that is possible. The world operates on a mutual relationship basis - players tend to abandon their own friends when they are offered an option that gives them something else which will benefit him. That was how the world was - the world itself was a game, and this was simply a game within a much larger game. Society, Pick thought, was just a game... a liar game. If you manage to successfully lie and steal, you will ultimately win. He sighed, looking up at the man. "Calrex, Zandra... They are tough opponents, but who says that they aren't human just like us. There are bound to be ways that forces them to either join us, or be eliminated. We can destroy them, yes, or they can join us. I want at least one of the strong front liners to join us even if they don't want to, just by a bit of obtaining information." Pick said, revealing even more of his plan.

"Great, now that we have worked out a deal, allow us to figure out how we will communicate and such. First of all, my username cannot be revealed to anyone, not even you, not any of our guild members. I've formed the entire organization, so I am sure I can be trusted even though I do not allow you all to know my true identity. This is so I can remain safe, in case one of you exposes our plans. This means I will not be sending traditional messages... instead, we're going to go even more traditional, using pen and paper. I'll be writing messages to you and putting them into a black envelope, then I'll be using a dagger to carve a symbol on the back of the envelope, so you cannot see it, and neither will other people, but you will be able to feel it. I didn't offer most of the other players within my organization a method to contact me, since I assured them that I'll be contacting them on a weekly basis to tell them of any progress or plans. Since you want an equal relationship, I'll give you a method of contacting me. Eventually, I'll be recruiting an artisan who can make emblems for us. I'll find a location where you can place an emblem there, and once I see the emblem, I'll go to you that night on my own." Pick explained.

  11. Pick listened carefully - a revenge against the front lines, or a quest for power. It was something like that, although Pick wasn't sure what the man had against the front lines but it was obvious that he too was waiting for a right moment to do something that could secure him power in the world.  Pick, of course, was after the same thing, but he was after it in a different manner - money. Money is power in the real world, and Pick can assume that it is the same in this world as well. He smirked, looking over at the black-haired man and staring at him in silence for a couple of minutes before beginning to speak,

"Haha," He chuckled, taking a sip of his wine before continuing on with his destiny, "My destiny has already been set. There is no failure for me, and I am sure of it. Simply said, I want to reach a powerful status as well - beyond all other player. Sure, I won't be the most powerful, but there are other ways to rule this world without being the highest leveled or the most experienced. With a bit of brain, anyone can overcome even the strongest players through deception and a little bit of luck. My plans have already been laid out way further than you can imagine, and it will play out just the way I expect it to. So, what do you think? I think our plans correlate with each other. If we work together, it will be much easier for us to reach our destinations. After all, both of us want power. You can go against the front lines, for all I care, while I do my own thing after that. I'm starting a band of criminals, and I would like you to have a spot within it. Although it's filled with weak players at the moment, they were ambitious."

  12. "Simple, you will address me as X. It's a simple name, and that's the way that I like to keep it," Pick introduced his disguised identity, making sure that the voice changer inside the mask hasn't changed positions yet, he moved his hand and adjusted his mask in order to make sure that it remains on his face the whole time, "May I ask also, what your name is? Naturally, I won't be adding anyone to my friend's zone, since, you know, my location might get leaked." Pick finished - this is why his friend's list was empty... he had deleted all of his friends before his plan began. He made sure that no one could access him - he was a coward after all. "I advise that you don't have too many players on your friend's list either... friends might only be a barrier to you. In this world, if you want to be successful, it's all about mutual benefit." Pick smiled.

"So, let us get to know each other a little bit better. I do not care about who you were in real life, or who you are at the moment, but let me get a good idea of where you are in terms of power? What level are you? If you are too low, we are going to have to work on that immediately." Pick finished.

  13. Pick stared at the two in silence as he watched the red-eyed man immediately jump into a defensive stance. Pick was observing the two players, and it seemed that one of them was extremely rushed and perhaps not even that clever, however, he seemed ready to fight at all times. Still, it was polite that he decided that he would at least ask him what he was doing before starting a fight. Pick chuckled, making the chuckle loud enough so that the two players can hear it get louder but it was a full laugh - the one thing that he noticed was the fact that the man had stood in front of the blonde girl, as if he was protecting her - no... he was protecting her. "You know, having someone to protect can only bring you down," Pick exclaimed, using his voice changer to make his voice even more creepier than the way that he made his voice deeper. "What if something was to happen to her? She seems like she doesn't want to fight that much, don't you think so? Don't you think - the weak doesn't deserve to survive, while the powerful deserves to." Pick got closer to the man, staring straight at the red-eyed man. Pick didn't know how strong the man was, but it wasn't important at this stage, since he knew that he had already won the battle. He wouldn't dare attack Pick with that blonde-haired girl around, because Pick could literally attack him. It was obvious that he was protecting her at this point, with the fact that he just decided to jump in front of her.

It was the perfect owl - intimidating, precious, and able to fly smoothly. It had demonstrated for him as soon as he tamed it, and Pick was glad that he had managed to pick up the familiar after so many nights of endless searching without results. Although it was practically just one night that he spent, it didn't feel that way. Instead, it seemed that the nights had gone by and he had wasted all of that just because he was unable to find this particular familiar. Pick sighed, scratching his head as the owl was tamed. Knowing that he would prove to be helpful, Pick began to think of an easy name that he could remember for the owl so that he can address it and give it instructions as well as train it better. "We're going to have a lot of fun times doing our robbing... Emerald... I'm sure of it."

Then, just as he spotted an owl in the distance, he felt something drop. His luck had dropped once again as soon as he waged war on the luck gods. Pick was a god himself, and he knew it as well. He was insanity, and he was sure that he can proceed and get this familiar... but his own self was telling him that he cannot obtain the familiar if he attempts to search for it. If he doesn't manage to do so after three fifty-fifty attempts, it would seem that his luck had finally abandoned him after all those escapes of luck that he had done in the real world. Perhaps it was because of that time at the waterfall with Dustin and Asakku that had managed to cause his luck to disappear, but it was lucky that Pick was able to save Dustin and look cool at the same time.

Pick needed to get his luck rolling the way that it's supposed to again before he manages to find a good owl that he can tame. His standards were lower now that he realized that the owl was practically impossible to get with his luck at the moment. He needed the gods to respond and show him that his luck was still there and that he had yet to be abandoned. He was lucky, and he would remain that way no matter what, even if the luck gods don't support him. If you don't support him, he will wage a war against you. He will control his own luck, and without the help with all these other stupid idiots that tell him otherwise. If the gods of luck can't help him, he'll help himself. Confident, he bent down to pick up a few branches that could count as materials easily.

Pick gave up. He had had enough compromising with the gods of luck. The gods of luck that dictate this game - he hated it. He hated his own previous luck, it was as if he was broken by this sequence of unluck that will probably stick with him for as long as he is in this game. This game changed his luck, and he hated it. He sighed, getting on his knees as he capped his hands together. He closed his eyes, and began to pray, "Look, if there's a God out there, please show me the way to regain my luck. It's been six times, if the last time is the next time, which means if I fail again, I'll no longer ask you for your help," Pick said out loud, with no one around him since it was night, "Then I will fight you... I will fight luck itself."

Pick was discouraged - he didn't even want to do this right now. In fact, he could simply turn back and leave, and wait until a later date when he felt better about his chances. Right now, he couldn't see anything, the fruitful first floor no longer gave him the materials consecutively like it used to. Pick's luck should be at least fifty fifty yet his previous attempts were all fails except for his last one, but this one had failed as well. The probability was not making sense - he should be getting at least one material for every two attempts yet it had somehow merged into one material out of five material gathering attempts. Pick sighed, putting on his mask now that the time was completely dark. Tonight was going to be another familiar searching night, but he didn't feel good about it - even if he supposedly have a high percentage of getting one.

Finally, the RNG gods have managed to bless Pick with something. If this was the fifth time in a row that the RNG didn't go the writer's way, he would've probably raged quitted for the day, maybe even for eternity. This quest was a huge deal breaker, and it was for a familiar that only gave a weak benefit along with a skill point that seemed so small and unimportant since he was getting skill points simply for getting materials each day. Right now, he was probably getting two or three skill points just from getting materials and not actually doing anything important, and he was only receiving one skill point for completing the quest? Complete nonsense! Pick was mad, and he hated the fact that he was mad. This was perhaps the first time that he had felt frustration at the game since before, everything had been smooth for him.

Okay, Pick was completely done with this quest. He hated everything about it. He would never do it again, and if he would he would hate it even more or go into this quest with all his stats maxed so that he has a one-hundred percent chance instead of a fifty percent chance to obtain this familiar. This quest, being a no level-cap quest was deceiving, because the lower leveled you were, the least likely you will be able to succeed on this quest. Pick sighed, and yet he was still not succeeding and not only that, not only can he not spot familiars, but he was not getting materials either. The past four hours, he had been searching, searching and searching, but he was unable to find anything. Today, just like the end of yesterday, is turning out to be bad luck, and Pick despised himself for it, it sucks.

It was a barren waste land. There were no materials, and no familiars around either for him. It was getting dark and he has yet to spot a single owl that he can take and use as his familiar. It was useless, and Pick hated the fact that he could not obtain what he wanted - the thing that adds salt to insult was the fact that Pick was the master of luck, yet here he was with his fifty fifty chance of obtaining both materials and familiars, and yet his luck was not following through. This wasn't an issue with confidence, this was an issue with the way that this game was created. His luck was undefeatable, and although the game was trying to prevent his luck from occuring from within this game, Pick will find a way around it, by boosting his "luck" stats as much as possible until maxed.

Pick was practically obsessed with getting this familiar. He wasn't eating as much as usual, and he felt extremely tired during the morning. Indeed, he was desperate, just like the writer of this post. It really is something difficult for an only person to role play a lucky person since this RP was based entirely on the dice roll to determine your luck. If I had half as much good luck as Pick, role playing this character would be far easier. Instead, this post is breaking the fourth wall at all aspects of role playing, which is basically like breaking a law. I'm getting desperate, and I'm willing to write about my own frustrations within Pick's post. This is simply to fill out the world count, since the writer of this post is extremely tired of doing the same things over and over again. Mind me creativity, but this is who I am.

It was almost dark - he had been occasionally looking around to check for materials, but the matter of the fact was he didn't really care about what material he had at the moment. In fact, he could care less about his materials. He had so many, and it was so easy to collect them that Pick could care less. If he could, he would give away all his materials just to have an owl come to him. His luck was unbeatable, and he was well aware that this familiar he was trying to find was a special breed and would require a lot of searching in order to obtain. Knowing all this, however, Pick was still not satisfied with the results at the very moment. He wanted better - According to his confidence, he should have gotten the familiar a long time ago - his first attempt. He had narrowed it down to fifty percent, after all.

  24. "Ah, but the game is not simply up to chance, is it. For example, I could tell you that I have a certain amount while I truly do not? Would you know whether I'm lying or would you know whether I'm lying? It's a game of deception... of filling the other person's mind with discomfort and frustration - only then can you strike the winning blow that ultimately wins you the game. This is it with all games, isn't it? Frustration and self-disbelief is the number one weapon that is not only in this game, but in this life. People in this type of condition can be best exploited for benefit, don't you think so?" Pick asked, toying with the man and seeing if his philosophy matched his. The man wanted to control his own destiny, while Pick's destiny has already been set. For him, the universe favors him, which is why he has amazing luck - but perhaps this overconfidence in his luck would ultimately be matched by someone with the skill to defeat it. After all, luck can only go so far, but Pick couldn't care less.

"I'm out here... for no reason." Pick declared, "I'm a man of secrets, and I do not like to expose them. Why don't you go first? What would you like to have? After all, you believe that you control your own destiny while I do not believe that fact - so what is the destiny that you would like to create?"
