  1. Joanne was a bit surprised at the returned kind gesture. Her eyes widened a little and she paused before taking the bread. Taking it gently from Kityusia's hands, she took a bite and smiled. It was nice and sweet and soft. The texture reminded her of a light fluffy cloud. Once she had finished her bite, she introduced herself. "I am Joanne Hawk, knight of my family's emblem." She gave a small bow, then wondered what the woman meant by the term partner. Oh! That was it, a familiar. She smiled and shook her head. "Unfortunately, I don't have a familiar of my own. I plan on working my way up to a higher level so that I do not burden my poor familiar. But I thank you for your kind compliment." Compassionate as always, Joanne thought about others before herself. That is why she had never joined a guild or anything like that. She was afraid of burdening others with her low level. She wouldn't want anyone to worry about her getting hurt or possibly dying in battle.

  2. She patted him on the shoulder gently. "You will find some materials soon. Don't worry," she told him. After a while of fruitless searching, she decided to take a break under a tree. Just happening to glance up, she spotted what seemed like an empty beehive in a tree next to the pair. She walked up to the tree and took a closer look. Yep, it was an empty hive. It turned out that honeycomb was a material that Zachariah required as well.

Stepping back, she said, "Step back, Scarab. I don't want you getting hurt if there are any lingering bees in here." Then she took a step back, trying to figure out how to get the hive down. Unfortunately, there were no large rocks around to throw and knock the bee hive down. She took a moment to think, bringing her right hand up to her cheek in a thoughtful pose. Then she had an idea. Her sword may work. Picking up the heavy and long weapon, she held it up as high as she could straight above herself. However, there were still four feet of difference between her and the beehive.

There was only one left option left. She had never done this before, but she wanted the material. She took about 5 paces backwards and braced her sword in her gloves like a type of short lance/spear. Using all her strength, she launched the sword up and through the strong mud and bee spit holding the hive to the branch. The beehive promptly fell to the ground, breaking into manageable pieces. With a smile, she went over and gathered the materials and then picked up her sword, which had landed straight down into the ground.

  3. Joanne smiled as Scarab described his artistic past. "You sound very experienced. You must be very talented," she said, complimenting him. "And yes, we may discuss the modelling once we get back. Maybe over a nice warm dinner?" she suggested. "We may both be very hungry by then." She walked side-by-side with him as they made their way out of the gates and towards the wilderness. As they left the safe zone, Joanne spoke once more. "If any enemies pop out, I will do my best to protect you. But let us keep both pairs of our eyes wide open. Most powerful monsters do not come out during the day, but nothing is impossible." She hoped that they would not come across any trouble during this quest. Her worst fear would be that Scarab would be hurt. She would blame herself for inviting him to come with her.

As these thoughts wandered about her head, she happened to look over to her left and spotted some mossy bark on the north side of an oak tree. She rushed over and quickly gathered the material, storing it safely in her inventory. "That was a lucky find," she said, smiling over at Scarab.

  4. Joanne looked up from the ingredients page she was focused on just in time to see the young woman crash into her and drop what she was holding. As the woman collapsed to the floor, she saw the sweet roll burst into pixels. Covering her mouth and gasping, Joanne got down on one knee in front of the player. She bowed her head and said, "I sincerely apologize. My lack of attentiveness has cost you your food. Wait here for one second." The tall woman quickly walked over to a nearby bread stand and purchased the largest loaf of sweet bread that the baker had. In fact, it was even bigger than the one the other player had just had!

Joanne bent down on one knee again and offered her the player the new loaf. "Here, I hope it is enough to make up for my mistake." She smiled sweetly at the other player. Then her attention was drawn to the woman's familiar. "Ah, and you are quite a beautiful one as well," she complimented them. "Your partner must be lucky to have you." She stood back up and offered her hand to the other player.

  5. Joanne looked at the board in the middle of the town square on floor two. It was a large, splintered, and covered in at least a hundred different quests, each stacked one on top of the other. I see that this world has no lack of problems either, she thought to herself, her face wrinkling into a slight frown. While looking over the various quests, her eyes landed on a particular one with a drawing of a large wasp at the top. Plucking it down gently, she held the wrinkled paper in her hands. "A Wind Wasp Queen...?" she thought aloud. The stats of the beast seemed daunting to her, but she knew if she could find another person to help her that she would be able to face the beast. She decided to stand to the side of the board and wait until another player came over to check for new quests. Then she would politely ask them to accompany her on the quest. Then they would both would be able to share the spoils of the kill and the satisfaction of helping to bring peace to the area.

  6. Joanne tilted her head to the side. "A... model?" she asked. She had never been the girly girl or one who focused on her own image. In fact, with her helmet on, you couldn't even tell by her armor that she was female. She grew quiet and thought for a second. "If it will help you, then I will of course be your model." The same small smile played across her lips. "I see you are very enthusiastic about your craft. Such enthusiasm is refreshing and nice to see." She had not met many artists during her time in this game. For most people, the years spent in this game had crushed their spirits. It had changed past friends into darker versions of themselves. The fact that Joanne could not help these friends no matter how hard she tried was something that still ate at her. But she pushed these thoughts to the back of her mind as she brought herself back to reality, back to the conversation she was having with Scarab.

Moving to the side, she gestured for Scarab to move ahead and for them to begin travelling. "I thank you for travelling with me. It's best that we finish this quest before it becomes night." It was noon at this point, and the day did not last long enough for Joanne in this world.

  7. Joanne entered the blacksmith's shop on the first floor. She took a look around. The walls of the shop were covered in years of soot. The wood was permanently died a blackish hue with fresh armor gleaming in front of the black beams. Looking to her left, she saw the blacksmith hard at work on his anvil, hammering a fresh piece of steel into the beginnings of a sword. "Hello, Master Leighton. I am Joanne, and I have come to train to become a blacksmith," she introduced herself.

Leighton took a good hard look at her and grumbled to himself before speaking. "Yes, yes. You seem strong enough for this trade. But do you have the patience and strength for it? That we shall see," he said in a rough, raspy voice. He beckoned her over to his anvil and gave her his quest while still hammering the hot blade. Sparks flew around them, but Joanne did not even flinch. She had been a farrier and blacksmith in the real world. Steel ran through her blood.

After receiving the quest from the blacksmith, she thanked him and stepped outside the smokey shop.

  8. Joanne turned her attention from her flyer and over to the player. "Oh, hello. My apologies. I have not introduced myself." She bowed slightly. When she arose from the bow, a sweet smile rested upon her lips. "My name is Joanne, Knight of the Hawke's of Scotland." She held her head high and with pride as she introduced herself. "It is nice to make your acquaintance," she continued. "Pardon my ears for listening, but I overheard Zachariah giving you the same quest he gave me. Would you mind if I accompanied you on this quest?" A sweet and sincere expression drew across her pale face, her bluish-green eyes looking upon the man gently.

"Of course, if I am too forward and you are not in need of a companion, please do not feel obligated to say yes." She bowed once more and tucked the list of materials into the breastplate of her armor.

    @Scarabaeus

  9. Joanne turned around calmly and smiled warmly at the new person. "My apologies, did you need to speak to Zachariah as well?" She said a quick goodbye to Zachariah and stepped aside. She gestured to the counter. "He's all yours." She then walked towards the door and stood on the porch of the shop, examining the list that the alchemist had given her. While studying the list, she left one ear open, curious as to what Zachariah had called the young man in for. Might he need him to fetch some materials as well? she thought to herself. If so, then maybe they could go together to complete the quest. It was better to go with another person than alone at level 1. She had known many who had died by not being cautious and going out to explore alone. Out of habit, she rested her right hand on the hilt of her large sword as she waited for two to finish. Checking over her shoulder, she made note that the conversation was nearly over. She kept posted by the door for when the stranger came out.

  10. Joanne stepped into the old, dusty shop of Zachariah the alchemist. He was an old NPC, but he still moved about and managed to get most materials by himself. On this day, he had sent a letter out to Joanne, asking for her help in something. She had visited the old man before and helped him with other simple tasks like cleaning his shop. She wondered what he needed today. With a warm smile, she greeted Zachariah. "Hello, Zachariah. You sent for me. Is everything all right?" she questioned, hoping that nothing bad had happened.

Zachariah laughed. "Ah, Joanne, always so concerned. You need not worry. I only have a simple task for you today." He beckoned for Joanne to come over to the counter of his shop. Together, he went over a list of materials that he needed. Nodding her head, Joanne agreed to fetch the materials and headed out onto the cobbled road leading through the main town on the first floor.

About/History: Joanne Hawke was raised in Scotland on her parent’s farm. They cared for cattle and horses. She learned to ride and carry a traditional sword at age 11. By the age of 15, she was adept at sword fighting, archery, falconry, and competitive horse riding. Always caring and compassionate, Joanne was raised based on the old principles of justice, patience, and the Knight Code. She was known in her small town for always lending a hand to those in need and volunteering at local soup kitchens and charities. Patient and thoughtful, she believes and lives by the way of the Knights of Olden Day.

Back in the real world, Joanne has a loving mother and father, a younger brother, and a loyal dog named Shep to call her family -- as well as all the other farm animals they have. But her closest friend of all is her horse Lucky. The young horse was the daughter of her parents’ two horses: Honor and Triumph. Never very open about her feelings to others, Joanne found someone she could talk to and love in Lucky.

    Username: Joanne
    Real Name: Joanne Hawke
    Age: 25
    Gender: Female

    Height: 6' 0"

Basic Appearance: Joanne has a smooth, toned face with pale white skin, blonde hair, and blue-green eyes. Her lips are a light pink, and her body is toned and strong.

    Virtues:

Compassionate: Joanne always thinks about others before herself. If she sees someone in need -- even a stranger -- she will stop what she is doing and rush to their aide. She is a strong supportive rock sticking out amongst the rough waves of a dark, endless ocean.

Justice: She believes strongly in making right the wrongs of this world -- no matter how big or small. Negotiation and understanding are the first weapons of her arsenal. If all else fails, she will defend the rights of others and the principles that she was raised with with sword and shield.

Honorable: She believes in a fair and just fight. She has never stolen or done anything to harm another person without a good reason. Except once. When she was a young child, around the age of 10, she pushed her younger brother out of anger. During their scuffle, the two ended up behind Triumph, their father’s strong-willed horse. Bam! The horse startled and kicked poor Benjamin, her 8 year old brother, in the back. He ended up fracturing a few ribs, but he soon recovered with the tenacious speed that youth have. After that incident, Joanne vowed never to lay a hand on another innocent person again and to always protect those whom she loved.

    Flaws:

Puts others needs before her own: Even though Joanne strives to help and listen to those in need, she rarely pays attention to her own needs. She may go over 24 hours without eating or sleeping, forgetting her own needs in place of someone else’s. After such times, when she returns home, her mother fills her belly full of food, and Joanne eats and then passes out on her bed, fully clothed.

Hides her emotions: If she is hurt or sad, Joanne will keep these emotions inside until they boil over. She never wants to burden others with her own problems. She foolishly believes that she must suffer alone.

Perfectionist: As a child, Joanne would practice for hours until she collapsed from exhaustion just to get one sword move correct. Her perfectionism has led her to loose competitions and to take hours to complete a simple task. Everything has to be just right, and she believes that she herself must be perfect. An unrealistic and impossible belief indeed.
