  1. Joanne stood still as the boar attacked her a final time. She knew the hit would never land before the passive effect on her weapon took action and kill the beast. At about a foot away, the beast burst into pixels that scattered about Joanne's armored figure. Joanne knelt in front of where the creature had been defeated. "Thank you for your sacrafice", she said softly. She raised her head and opened her eyes once more, looking down at the ground in front of her. It seemed as though the beast had dropped 140 col for her to collect. She thanked the boar once more before picking up the loot drop and standing up.

    That's when she felt as though she was being watched. She looked around. After realizing there was no one out in the open, she began to search the bushes. That was when she saw a pair of eyes. "Who's there?" she called out, cautious of who this stranger might be.

  2. Joanne decided to step up her seriousness a little bit. She dug her steel boots into the ground and launched herself into a sprint towards the boar. With one swift thrust, she had managed to cut the boar's right front leg off. The appendage fell and immediately burst into pixels upon hitting the ground. The boar reared its head and cried out in pain as it realized what had been done to it. It tried to make an escape, but kept falling due to a lack of a front appendage.

    Joanne stepped closer and looked down at the boar. She felt pity as he had fought bravely for a boar. "I will make this as quick as I can," she said softly to the beast in front of her. "Just stay still."

  3. The boar reared up on its back legs, its eyes growing red. It was riled up and angry, sensing that this was a battle for life and death. With a long death howl and a charge, the beast came racing up towards Joanne again. She tried to hold up her sword and block the twin tusks heading for her, but she only managed to block one with her shield. The other banged against her chest plate and knocked her back a few fate. Joanne grimaced, getting every more serious. She had taken another point of damage. She was losing her advantage, which made her just a little worried. She knew that level 1 players had died to even weaker beasts before. It all came down to the luck of the game and your own skills. Even the builds could matter at times. If you're build wasn't tight or didn't work well together, you could easily fall prey to minor beasts.

  4. In a fit of utter rage, the boar raced towards Joanne. She attempted to an attack then dash once more, but the boar was a little too quick for her. Instead, the boar glanced off her breastplate armor with its razor sharp tusks. Joanne was pushed to the side and landed several feet away. However, while the boar had attacked her, Joanne had managed to get a solid cut into the beast's neck. Another wound only made the beast angrier, urging it to attack again.

    Joanne checked her stats. Three points of health had been knocked off. Luckily she was wearing heavy armor that protected her from most of the damage. Not too much health lost, but it was the most she had lost since beginning the game. She frowned, taking note that she was not perfectly protected by enchanted armor. Breathing in, she calmed herself and prepared for another attack.

  5. In the forests outside of the first floor city's front gates, Joanne was busy practicing her swordsmanship skills. She was still trying to get used to the sword arts and other game mechanics. To better hone her skills, she had decided to try and find a few boar spawns that she could easily take out and use to level up. While walking down a shaded path, she spotted a boar trotting along the path in front of her. Joanne decided to take this chance to attack while the boar hadn't noticed her.

    Sword raised, she charged up behind the beast and slashed down its spine, creating a deep cut where bone was slightly exposed. Leaping back in order to dodge a possible attack, she assessed the damage that she had done. The boar had fallen away to the side, crying out in pain. However, it still had a bit of health left, so it got back up and began to raise its head and shake it side to side, a sign that it was about to attack.

  6. Joanne let out a soft laugh as her eyes softened and a smile spread over her lips. "No. My brother did not follow in my footsteps at all. Quite the opposite actually. He was always amazing with computers and technology that I have no clue how to explain or operate." She turned to face Dederick. "In fact, he was the one who bought the nervegear that I'm trapped in in the real world. I well..." she blushed and looked away once more. "I was curious and decided to try the strange contraption on, even though I had no clue what it would do. And then suddenly I was here. It seemed amazing at first, but then you know how it all goes. We were all trapped here. . ." She rubbed her right arm with her left, a nervous habit. For a second, she seemed small despite being so tall and wearing a large suit of armor. But just as quick as she showed weakness, she brought a smile back to her face and listened to what Dederick had to say.

    Joanne listened intently, grasped by the tale of the man in front of her. "How very intriguing," she said once he had finished. "And honorable. You sacrificed much for the path you believed in. I respect your will and courage for that. My family read the bible and attended church as well, though I'm afraid we could all be a little more God-fearing people." The small smile returned to her lips. "Ah, it seems like curiosity got the best of the both of us then."

  7. Not wanting to worry Scarabeus or make him concerned about her own life, she quickly smiled and wiped the troubled look off of her face. "Oh! It's nothing! I was just wondering why the flower had disappeared. It seems an odd mechanic. Though this is an odd game..." She laughed. "I guess I've never been one to fully understand technology."

    She then bent down to pick up another flower. This time, it stayed whole and did not explode into tiny pixels. She smiled and put the deep blue flower into her inventory. "One more down and two more to go!" Then she looked over at Scarabeus. "How many do you have left?" she asked him. She knew she was having better luck than him and felt a little bad. While she waited for his response, she bent back down and began looking for any roots or herbs she could pick to help make potions.

  8. Joanne looked up from her flower picking to look over at what Scarabeus held in his hand. She bent down and looked closely at it. "Hm..." she thought for a second. "Yes, it appears to be a nice shade for a fabric dye. Try to pick some more since they seem to be in abundance here if you look in the right places." As she finished her last sentence, she spotted a nice purple violet to her left.

    "Oh! Speak of the devil," she said as she bent down to pick it. However, as she picked and brought it up to her face to examine it, it burst into pixels. She jumped back, a little surprised and then mumbled to herself, "Hm... It must be a game mechanic I didn't know of. I guess some of these flowers are good while the rest are bad or are not actual objects..." She was honestly just guessing at the logic of the game at this point. She sighed and thought of her brother. He would have known all about what was happening here.

  9. Joanne looked over at Scarabeus. Still no luck for the poor lad. She went over towards him and offered a hand. "Here, let's see if we can find anything in that field over there," she said while pointing to their east towards a field of budding flowers.

    Entering the field, she began to search for any flowers that had bloomed who's petals could be used for dye or potions. "Come join me," she said, smiling. She waved him over to the right of her so that he could check the rights side of the field while she searched the left. "There are bound to be plenty of materials in this field with all these flowers and bees around."

    However, after a few minutes of searching, she hadn't found anything besides wilted or freshly-budding flowers. She couldn't help but sigh a little at her lack of luck. She got up and moved to another part of the field. Maybe there would be more luck over there.

  10. As much as Joanne wanted to challenge herself with tougher opponents, she agreed with Dederick's view. And it was a nice day. The sky was clear, with just a few fluffy white clouds floating about. "It really is a beautiful world isn't it... " she muttered to herself as she gazed up at the light blue plane above her. It looked so real despite being made up of pixels. She sighed and looked back down just in time to see Dederick offering her a flower. She smiled and took it, tucking it in her hair behind her right ear.

    She looked back over at her companion and suggested, "So, since we've been battling together so far, maybe we should tell each other a little bit more about one another." She thought for a moment. "I'll go first. I was raised on a farm and am trained in blacksmithing, archery, swordsmanship, and horse riding. I was dubbed a knight when I was 21. My father is a knight as well, but I took over the position of representing the family when I was knighted." She stared off into the distance, seeing her family back home in front of her once more. "I also have a younger brother. He would be 23 this year..." her voice trailed off as she finished the sentence.

    @Dederick

  11. Joanne removed her helmet once more as the boar exploded upon Dederick's shield. "Well done," she congratulated him. She sheathed her sword once more and joined the man at his side.

    She looked into the distance thoughtfully as she thought of how to respond to the man's words. "I suppose the true hell is being alone then," she said. "Alone and with no one to trust." A pained expression crossed over her face as she said these last words. However, she quickly replaced the look with a smile. "Well, since we're not in hell then, what's up next for our adventure? Shall we try something a bit more challenging?"

    As she waited for the man to respond, she pulled out a canister of water from her inventory and took a long drink from it. She then wiped her mouth with the back of her left hand and offered the canister to Dederick.

    @Dederick

  12. Joanne was equally impressed with the man's skill in battle. He would have made a fine knight from where she was from in the real world with such skills. However, she could not allow her mind to wander from battle for too long. She readied her blade once more and set her sights on the fourth boar.

    Once again, she dashed forward and slashed into the other boar, her blade slicing half-way through one of its back legs. The boar fell on its side before struggling up and running a safe distance away to recover. Meanwhile, the third boar fell to Joanne's bleed mechanic.

    She walked over towards where the boar had been and picked up the loot that it had dropped. Under her mask, she was smiling as she yelled over to Dederick, "One down and one to go!" She laughed lightly. She was actually having fun.

  13. Joanne thought for a moment while the man spoke. "The knights and royalty that my family originally came from were said to have been chosen by God once. But man's own jealousy and greed for power turned one god-chosen monarch against another." She looked off into the distance. "If this were truly hell," she said thoughtfully, "then we are still truly blessed." She smiled down at Dederick. "We are blessed because we still have one another to lean on."

    She stepped forward to make the first strike, equipping her helmet as she did so. Joanne dashed forward at a surprisingly quick pace, given that she was wearing a full suit of heavy armor. With one downward slash, she cut through the left side of boar 3. She quickly leaped away from the beast and her attack and turned towards Dederick. "It's your turn now!" She turned around to quickly face the beasts once more. It could be a grave mistake if one turned their back to one of these creatures for too long.

  14. A slight blush of embarrassment came to Joanne's cheeks as he asked her how she had ended up in the game. For the first time in a while, she looked away, and her strong outer demeanor fell away. "W-well," she stumbled over her words, "in the real world, I was actually a blacksmith. I was never one for games, but my younger brother had just bought the nerve gear. So... I grew curious and decided to test it out." She sighed heavily. "And that is how I got stuck here." She cleared her throat and looked back at Dederick. "They say that curiosity killed the cat, and it appears that I have fallen into curiousity's trap."

    She took out her one handed sword and spun it around in her right hand. "However, my experience with swordsmanship and armor in the real world has helped me adjust to the fighting portion of this game rather easily." A small smile played across her lips.

  15. Joanne smiled at Dederick's encouragement. It was refreshing to hear such words come out of another person's mouth. "Thank you for being so understanding," she returned. She stepped back and studied the man's movements as the last boar charged towards Dederick's shield. She nodded and smiled as she saw the beast explode into pixels.

    She looked at the man as he placed his hand on her shoulder, surprised at the touch. However, her expression of surprise soon turned to one of happiness as he spoke. "You are a good fighter as well!" she said. "And we do work well as a team. It is quite fun to fight with you."

    To his idea for sharing the loot, she nodded her head in agreement. "Yes, it is best to share the loot in a safer, less dangerous location." She took her helmet off once more so that she could see better. She took the chance to look around for enemies. After seeing none, she asked, "So, where would you like to go next?"

    @Dederick

  16. Joanne yelled in encouragement as he finished off the first boar. "Nice shot!" She agreed and nodded her head when he mentioned that they were a good pair. She hadn't connected with someone like this in attacks yet in the game. She smiled and leaped forward towards the second boar, quickly decreasing the space between them.

    This time, she only managed to get a quick scratch on the boar. It was too fast for her to land an exact blow in her heavy armor. "Darn it," she cursed under her breath. "My apologies," she shouted over to Dederick. "I only managed to scratch the darn thing. I will do better this next time."

    She took a moment to wipe the blood off of her blade and check it for any nicks or scratches. She knew that such things wouldn't usually show up in the game, but it came out of habit. She had been a blacksmith and knight in the real world. The tradition had been passed down to her to become the next knight throughout generations upon generations.

  17. In no way did Joanne mean for her words to cut into the man's confidence. She was quite caring, and had dedicated her life, both in the world and the real world, to helping others.

    Suddenly, she heard the sound of hooves and followed Dederick's gaze to the boars in front of them. She drew her blade and practiced some swinging, spinning throws from one hand to the next. She was ambidextrous when it came to fighting and most things. She grinned and braced herself for battle when she heard the man's jest. "I'll give it my all," she responded with her soft Northern Scottish accent.

    After the man landed his hit, she shouted, "Very good!". Then she rushed forward with her sword in front of her. She charged the first boar and sliced deep into its side. She drew her blade out of the beast and leaped back to avoid an attack.

    She had decided to use a basic attack in order to conserve her energy for the end or for an emergency. A smile played across her lips as she looked at the damage she had done. Her blade glowed red with the bleed affect that it was graced with. She looked back towards the man. "I believe it's your turn now."

  18. Joanne smiled broadly, not noticing the blush on the young man in front of her. She shook his hand firmly in return and then tilted her head as she heard the word "staycation". "Staycation?" she asked. She had come from a life where vacations weren't very often for her. In fact, she couldn't remember the last time that she had taken a proper one besides leaving the farm due to a cold or for one day holidays. She continued smoothly, "If you wouldn't mind, I may aid you in feeling more at ease." She rested her left arm on the hilt of her large sword. "I could accompany you while also gathering supplies. You won't be in any danger that way."

    As she waited for the man's response, she put her helmet back into her inventory and tried to braid her hair. However, she soon realized that her bulky heavy armor would not allow her such flexibility. She sighed and quickly removed her armor, revealing a white, loose shirt and dark blue jeans with leather boots. She now stood at 6 foot height--her natural height. "One moment, please," she said as she braided her hair into a long, loose braid. Then she re-equipped her armor and stood at attention.

    Symphony approached the field on the right side of the young man. With her full-face helmet and armor on, she stood at about 6 foot 3. Her sword resting at her hip, she looked over and waved towards the young man. Maybe he was also here to gather materials.

    She began to walk over towards the man, taking off her helmet as she did so to reveal a thin yet strong face with blue eyes and long blonde hair. When she stood in front of the man, she held out her hand as a polite gesture and introduced herself. "My name is Joanne Hawke. It's a pleasure to meet you. Are you also here to gather materials and hunt beasts?" She was quite a formal woman, having been raised in a family of former Knights in Scotland.

    Her armor shone fiercely in the sun as she stood in front of him. Spikes came out horizontally along her shins, forearms, and the sides of her helmet. Due to her height and armor, most mistook her for a man both in this world and the real one. She wouldn't be surprised if the man in front of her had realized such before she took her helmet off.

    @Dederick

  20. Joanne paused, thrown off a little by the suggested nickname. However, her startled look soon turned to a smile as she nodded her head. "Yes, you can call me Anne. It has a nice ring to it," she said.

    As the woman spoke further about Joanne not being a burden, she nodded her head in understanding. "I like your way of thinking. You're like a bright, cheerful star in this world. It is quite... relieving to see such an energetic soul." She watched the woman devour the sweet roll quickly, her eyes widening. Goodness, she must have been quite hungry, she thought to herself before remembering that none of the players felt real hunger in the game. Oh, she must just really like food, she corrected herself.

    "Well, I'm going out to search for materials and complete the Earning a Living quest. I want to become a blacksmith so I can forge weapons and armor for the other players as well as myself. I want to make sure that everyone here is protected, and that's my way of doing so." She pulled up the quest guidelines on her display. "It seems for the first part of the quest, I need to collect 5 materials." She closed her menu, and looked back at the woman. "I would greatly enjoy it if you accompanied me today. Gathering is always better with a friend."

    @Kityuisa

  21. Joanne was taking her daily walk around the first town, meditating on her sword arts and body movements while doing so. She was wearing her full suit of silver, spiky armor (as usual) that hid her body shape. Most would not be able to tell who she was until she spoke when she wore it. As she was moving along, the 6 foot 2 woman's (when wearing the armor) ears perked at a conversation between unfamiliar voices. She glanced over to her right and saw two young women and a young man. Hm? Could they be a small group heading out for a quest? Listening just a little bit longer, she overheard the players discussing being low leveled. She checked the stats above their head. All were of a higher level than her, even the level 3 player. However, it seems like said player was looking for a group.

    She thought for a second before unequipping her helmet and walking over to the small group. "Excuse me," she said, "but I couldn't help but overhear that you may be looking for other players to go on a quest with. I may not be of much help, but if you need a companion, I can act as your shield for a few hits." She smiled gently and looked at the three faces in front of her.

  22. Joanne had been taking a morning stroll through the first floor city, heading towards the Blacksmith's shop, when she spotted an unusually large group of players gathered. It wasn't uncommon for a small group to gather and take a break on the lower floors, but as she checked their name icons and stats, she realized they were all of varying levels and experience. The girl in the middle seemed to be the same level as Joanne. Level 1. She thought for a moment before stepping forward to see what the commotion was about. It seemed the group was beginning to bicker. Did anyone need help? Dressed in a full set of armor that hid her face and body type, she started forward. The armor made the woman seem even taller than she was and more imposing (though she really was a kind soul). Standing at 6 foot 2, she was taller than most of the group. She took her helmet off as she approached, so that she wouldn't seem like a threat. (The armor had spikes that sometimes gave off that vibe to people).

    She cleared her throat gently as she walked up and looked sincerely around at everyone in the group. "Is everyone here all right?" she asked when there was a moment of silence between everyone. "I don't mean to intrude, but it sounded as though there was a commotion. I just wanted to make sure you all are okay." A small, kind smile spread across her lips as she finished speaking.

  23. She thought back to her childhood. She remembered playing in the woods with her younger brother, who was 2 years her junior. They would play with wooden, make-shift swords, pretending to be Robin Hood and the evil Sheriff. They took turns playing each part, but Joanne always preferred and loved being Robin. She would stand atop a rock and face her brother, who was playing the Sheriff of Nottingham, and say, "I am Robin Hood! You have stolen the money from the good citizens of England, and you shall return what you have taken or face your death!" Then she would draw her sword and look down it at her brother. He would always something along the lines of "I'll have your head" or "Time to die". Then they would charge at each other and hit their wooden swords together. Eventually one of them would knock the sword out of the other's hand and they would both go around chasing each other until their mother called that dinner was ready. As quick as they had started playing, they would stop, running at full speed back to the dining table for supper.

  24. After walking for about 15 minutes, she saw a shaded path off to her left that split from the main one. She decided to take this path as the shade felt nice against her warming armor, allowing her the chance to cool down. As she walked, she looked around her. Tall oak and birch trees grew around her, seeds and wilted leaves falling down whenever the breeze blew. An acorn dropped on her helmet, creating a hollow "dink" noise. She looked up. Just two squirrels play-fighting over food. A small smile crossed her lips as she lowered her gaze back to the front of herself and carried on. Mother nature was at peace for now.

    That's why she liked this floor. It was the most peaceful one in her eyes. The enemies weren't too rough or aggressive usually, and there were still small woodland creatures like the ones she would see back home. In fact, now that she thought about it, the woodish parts of this floor reminded her of the woods next to her town back at home.

  25. Joanne packed up her inventory with healing potions and made sure that her sword was sharp and prepared. Today, she would be heading out to train. She needed to get stronger if she ever planned on making it to front lines. That's all she wanted. To get to front lines and help other people. Everyone else wanted to leave this world and go back to the real one just like she did. She paused and stared into the corner of the room, thinking. How long had it been since she had seen her mom's face? Her father's? Her little brother's? 2 years. 2 long years of stagnation. Sighing, she put on her heavy armor and headed out the gates of the city. The sun was shining down on her armor, but luckily it wasn't humid or too hot. Just bearable.

    First, she took the main road, searching for any clearings or enemies nearby.
