  2. "No offense taken," Entropy replied, with a shrug. It wasn't like he had any kind of stakes in whether or not she liked to talk to people or not anyways. "Sorry about your friend though, that must suck." Yeah, friends. Flaky fuckers, all of them. Even in the most mundane situations, Entropy mused, they found a way to let you down.

    Entropy stopped to think for a moment. Being out in this cold had made him pretty hungry actually. Well, that settled it. "Yeah, sure. Food sounds good. So long as we're inside, I don't think I could stand to be out in this cold another second. My fucking ears would freeze off." Okay, an exaggeration, it wasn't nearly that cold. "Lead the way. You can pick." Hopefully she'd pick something good though...for a street rat, Entropy was actually pretty picky about his food nowadays. Although, to be honest, right now, anything warm sounded like heaven to the man.

  3. "Ah...I get that," Entropy replied, pulling his hat down a little lower as he cast his gaze down to his feet. Yeah, he understood that. People were dangerous after all. You never really knew who you could trust, especially when thing started to get rough. Everyone wanted to look after themselves after all. Not that Entropy could blame them.

    He looked back up after a moment, "well, uh, thanks again," he said noticing that he was at least beginning to recognize some of the buildings, which at least meant they were headed in the right direction. "I'll, uh, I dunno, buy you a meal or something sometime as thanks for going out of your way." It wasn't flirting. It was about as straight an offer as Entropy could give though, given he didn't really have anything else to offer to someone who was clearly better off at the moment than he was. Also...it wasn't like he could top Father Wuotan's gift anyways.

  4. 'This girl is pretty quiet...' Entropy thought to himself as Nephthys guided his through the labyrinth that was this settlement, made only more confusing by the festival's various...festival things. 'What did people even call these things?' Entropy wondered. Tents, probably. But he didn't really know. He didn't really care either.

    What surprised him though was the fact that Nephthys just stated she wasn't all too comfortable around other people. "Oh, I'm sorry," Entropy apologized, "I, uh, hope I'm not making you feel uncomfortable right now?" The lanky boy wasn't quite sure how he felt about all this. One hand, he didn't feel like he should apologize for his presence, despite having done just that, and on the other, he did feel a little bad if he really was making the girl uncomfortable. She was helping him out, after all. Damn, why did people have to be so fucking frustrating sometimes?

    @Nephthys

  5. "Festival," the man grumbled. "I don't normally do those sorts of things," he explained, "but I thought I'd give it a shot this time. Lot of good that did me, I just ended up getting my sorry ass lost." Entropy couldn't remember the last time he'd gotten himself so turned around in a urban area. He used to pretty good at mapping out places like this in his mind.

    "I hope I'm not pulling you away from any of the festivities," he added, realizing she probably had friends waiting on her, or something she had wanted to do on the floor anyways. The festival seemed to be what everyone was here for anyways. Food, drink and a whole lot of acting like you liked the people you were with. In the end, they all probably would turn their backs on each other given the first sign of danger. True companionship was hard to find after all.

  6. With a humble nod of thanks, Entropy reached out and picked up the weapon that Father Wuotan offered him. A dagger with a subtly curving blade, polished to a mirror finish. It's hilt was bound in a lovely dark brown leather, and from it's end a small snowflake charm dangled.

    "Thank you, Father," Entropy said, as graciously as he could. He wasn't used to people actually doing things for him, let alone handing him a weapon as fine as this just because. Charity was a rare trait in the real world.

    The man soon departed, and Nepthys turned towards Entropy. "Teleporter, please," he said almost desperately, "teleporter sounds good."

    Entropy felt the piercing gaze of the panther stab through him, and he glanced down, only to be slightly unnerved by the glare he was receiving from the large cat. He resolved to not piss that kitty off. "Uh, lead the way. Please. And thank you," he said to Nephthys, hoping his kind treatment of the woman would appease the cat.

    A tall, much older man began to approach the pair of players, and much to Entropy's surprise, the Panther Familiar didn't try to claw the old man's face off...probably because he was that event NPC Entropy noticed earlier. Stupid plot armor.

    Hmm...the offer of something to help Entropy get stronger? What should he ask for? Nephthys asked for a cursed weapon...hey, now that wasn't such a bad idea! Well, maybe not the spear part..."So, what're the chances you can get me a cursed dagger too? Three damage too, why the hell not?" Well, Entropy. If he can't get it for you, that'd be why.

    Entropy wasn't really one for holidays, but hey, after this, the man might start warming up to the idea. Free stuff? That was always cool. And yeah, yeah, family and friends and giving...eh, maybe Entropy would actually make friends with this poor girl he'd been yelling at...Holiday miracle anyone?

    @Father Wuotan

    The Panther began to hiss at Entropy again, and the girl snapped at the Familiar, quieting it again. She then pointed in the direction of the teleporter. Entropy looked followed her finger, just further into the street. Entropy had the feeling he'd end up walking in circles some more though if he didn't get some help. Man, he really was useless to day, wasn't he? Well, there was only one solution to this problem..

    "I hate to trouble you further," the boy said to the girl as he looked back towards her, "But uh, I have a feeling I'll just get more lost without help. Do you mind walking with me? I'll repay you, somehow." How Entropy was going to do that? Well, he didn't quite know yet. Food, probably. Everyone loves food. Besides, he'd been kind of rude to her. He needed to make it up to her somehow.

    The sound a voice followed by hissing came from behind Entropy as he walked towards the teleporter. Yeah, he definitely knew where it was now by the way. Upon hearing the voice, Entropy stopped walking and peered over his shoulder to see a woman and a rather large cat. Oh, wait that was a panther. The man turned fully as the woman addressed him, apologizing for the dejected looking cat's behavior.

    "But what are you looking for, I might be able to help."
    "I'm trying to find the goddamn teleporter off this floor," Entropy practically spat out of frustration. Who the hell designed this place anyways? It was a freaking maze, did they want people to get lost in the safe zone? The man sighed as he realized he'd been rather harsh with the woman who'd done nothing wrong. "Sorry. Can you point me in the right direction?" the man asked.

    Entropy was lost. Like...really lost. The boy never got lost. But now he was. He'd been walking around aimlessly, observing the festival, people watching. The usual. And then somehow he'd ended up in the ass end of nowhere, no one and nothing even remotely landmark-ish to help him figure out how to get back to the damned teleporter and go home to a place that was not currently snowing and cold! This. This was why Entropy disliked going to festivals for 'enjoyment'. He was a thief and a pickpocket anyways. Festivals were his workplace. He didn't go there to enjoy them. He went there to make money.

    Entropy pulled his jacket around his body tightly as he grumbled to himself, walking through the empty streets, trying to figure out where the hell he was going. But he had the feeling he was just getting more lost as he went along. Didn't he pass that shop already? He was pretty sure he had. Is he just walking in circles now?

    @Nephthys

  11. Well, Entropy wasn't usually big on celebrating holidays like this, but...having nothing to do left the young man bored out of his mind. And, given that there was an event on Floor Eleven, Entropy thought it might be a good idea to at least check it out. He wasn't really expecting too much, but at least it would kill some time.

    Boy was Entropy wrong. This wasn't just an event, it was an entire festival! Hot cocoa, games, snow. Even a big old white bearded man talking about gifts and all that. Suffice it to say that Entropy was sufficiently impressed. The man decided to walk around and see what there was to see. With hands in his pockets he strolled around. People seemed happy. If this were the real world, many of these poor fools would be the perfect mark for one of Entropy's pickpocketing antics. Not here though. What a shame...

    "Big town like this, it's easy to get lost. I lose my way back to the inn every once in a while too, so you're not alone there," Entropy said after the snow-haired woman explained that she was indeed picking up the same quest that he was. No he didn't really get lost. But, letting people think he made mistakes? Kaden had found in the past that feigning flaws made you more endearing to people. Less stand-offish than if you acted like you were perfect. Simple thing like that made all the difference.

    Entropy's smile only widened as the woman agreed to go on this little quest alongside him. Perfect. More help meant he wouldn't get killed. And if Entropy's guess was correct, she could do quite a bit more work than he could. But first, that meant she had to actually pick up the quest. The boy stepped to the side and tipped his hat to her as she walked into the shop, and when she reappeared moments later he flashed his trademark smile again. "Well, while I certainly do appreciate the compliment, I don't think boosting my ego any further is a great idea," he said with a light chuckle. "You can call me Entropy. It's a pleasure to meet you Lethia. Now, if I'm not mistaken..." the boy appeared to look around for a moment, as if assessing where he was and where he needed to go, "the town's exit is that direction. Let's go!"

    The sound of a door opening and closing echoed off the stone walls of the quiet town. It was midday, a sleepy time of day, and for the most part, the town's streets were devoid of players and NPCs alike, save for the two that stood staring at each other right then. As Entropy had left Zakariah's shop, he'd nearly run into a white haired woman on her way in. The boy gave her a quick once over, as if evaluating her, but so swift was his gaze that it could have easily been missed. She was pretty. There was no doubt about that. And a few years older to boot. Not exactly Entropy's type but she looked like she could handle herself.

    "Pardon me," the boy said with a cool and charming smile. "Here to pick up that beginner quest too, huh? Ya know, I hear it can be quite the chore if you're alone. But ya know what they say. Two's company. Care to team up for this little errand? Might make it more enjoyable."

    Virtues Flaws

    + Analytical: Kaden has, is, and always will be analytical. The young man uses his intelligence to figure out the best action with the best outcome, and then acts on it. That, and he's also a really good problem solver.
    + Patient: Kaden is more than happy to wait if it means that the outcome will be better for him. As long as there's a reason to, Kaden can show great restraint and self control. Even though he might not want to.
    + Silver-tongued: Kaden is crafty and can talk his way out of, or into, just about anything. Years on the street taught him that what you say and how you say it can be the difference between life and death.

    - Controlling: The problem with being smart is that if you let it get to your head, you can become kind of bossy. And that's exactly what Kaden is. It's either his way or the highway.
    - Cynical: Kaden believes the worst in everything. Whether it be a situation or people, he fully expects the worst to come about. If you thought getting Kaden to see the bright side was hard, try earning his trust.
    - Secretive: A side effect of not trusting people is that you become very secretive. Kaden likes to play things close to the vest, and he never shows his hand, even after he's already won the pot.

    History:
    Spoiler

    Kaden was born an orphan. As a child he never earned the favor of those visitors, never adopted. It seemed like he was slated for misery from the very start. To make matters worse, the boy was bullied constantly. Children could be cruel, and they found every possible thing under the godforsaken sun to bully the young Kaden on. Once, they spotted Kaden staring at a rather attractive looking boy. Days, weeks, months, years, Kaden was never able to pull those jeers out of his mind. Even if he could, the others wouldn't let him forget.

    From a young age, Kaden learned that what you knew and how you appeared meant everything. Because if you know something, you have the ability to act with that information. And if you get caught, how things appear can not only absolve you, but even shift the blame. As soon as Kaden figured that out, the boy set upon carefully crafting his own appearance.

    By the time Kaden was a teenager, he had developed the appearance of a charismatic, care-free, gentleman. More than that, the boy had developed a bit of a silver tongue. At a moments notice he could get a girl to hang off his arm, or talk his way out of pretty much any kind of trouble. Once, a cop had caught him with a stolen wallet. Kaden was able to convince the officer that he the wallet was actually his and he had stolen it back from the man it belonged to. The real selling point was showing the officer the pictures he had put in place of the ID and credit cards. Deft fingers and a honeyed tongue could get you far in the world.

    One day, Kaden met another boy, not unlike himself. A fellow thief, crafty and charismatic, much like Kaden. This other boy made Kaden an offer. Join him in running cons, split their 'earnings' 50/50. Despite Kaden's misgivings, the man accepted. If everything went according to plan, Kaden would be making a healthy profit. If they didn't...well, Kaden was fairly confident in his ability to talk his way out of just about anything.

    Much to the boy's delight, the first scam went according to plan. As did the next, and the one after that, and even the one after that. Eventually, the pair became inseparable. Thick as thieves, as it were. Kaden even went as far as abandoning the orphanage and moving into an apartment that 'his partner's parents paid for, for them.' Or at least, that's what the landlord thought.

    Kaden was content with spending the rest of his life conning people along side his partner. Every once in a while though, Kaden would get this stirring in his chest. These other kinds of feelings would rise up, but Kaden would push the back down. Deep deep down. In some hidden part of his mind, the endless bullying still echoed. Besides, he'd always been attracted to girls, right? Why change that now.

    Eventually, something new caught both boys' eyes. A new full dive VRMMO called Sword Art Online. They wanted to play it. No, they didn't pay for the game or the NerveGear. They were thieves after all. They broke into a store before the release, stole the game, the NerveGear and whatever else they wanted. When the actual release date came around, they were some of the first to log in. And they loved it.

    The pair could do almost anything they wanted in the game, with little to no repercussions. For a couple of neer-do-wells like themselves, this was paradise. And then...the announcement came.

    We all know what was said. If you die in-game, you die in real life. Panic ensues, people freak out. But not Kaden, nor his partner. Why would they wanna leave this place? Tey could do whatever they wanted, and they didn't have to worry about police. They could steal, con...even kill...

    So for two years, the pair took what they could from whoever was foolish enough to listen to them. Col, weapons, armor, trinkets, consumables. Nothing was safe from their greedy grasp. But now it was time to expand their horizons...
