Katoka

It never ceased to amaze Kat when Freyd would absolutely obliterate an enemy. She knew that this was the first floor and that the mobs here were usually pretty weak, at least in comparison to them all now, but it was still a surprise regardless. Just one hit and he had killed a dragon, "I wonder if the rest of these guys will be that easy." she thought to herself.

Snapping back to the moment Katoka rushed to Elora's side, opening her inventory to grab a potion. "Hang on, one of these should be plenty for this little guy." she popped the cork with a satisfying thunk and offered it to the youngling. It was hesitant as she tipped it towards the baby, but after it sniffed the air and caught the appealing scent that the bottle was escaping the bottle neck it began to lap the contents as the samurai poured. Once the dragon had finished to bottle it chirped happily as it's wound began to stitch up on it's own.

"There we go little one, much better right?" Kat smiled and patted it on the head.

As she blonde stood and brushed herself off she noticed what seemed to be a piece of parchment near a bush. It seemed to stand out as something important as it seemed to emit a strange sparkling particle effect every few seconds. "Well if this isn't an important quest item then I don't know what is." Grabbing the item she flipped it over to see words inked in a hurried hand, but what stood out the most was the reference to another location on the second floor.

"Well, we knew we had to go up one more floor, but now we at least have a starting point." she grinned flashing the page to her friends.

Her pride had taken a hit just as hard as she had physically, but she wasn't ready to back down just yet. Adjusting her grip in her weapon Kat nodded to Freyd as he patted her shoulder, she needed to find an opening and carve a piece of this thing herself. She set off in a full sprint, dropping down into a slide as it swung it's tail at her briefly. Her sword let off it's usual blue light, but she realized too late that she had charged the wrong sword art. She was so used to her single target attacks that it was reflex at this point. Had she even used shatter before?

Her hesitance translated into her movement as she once again hit a patch of moss sending her skidding past her target. Guudgog once again focused his attention on poor Freyd, this time slamming his fist into his side while somehow managing to simultaneously kick Katoka at the same time. The Samurai saw stars as she skipped across the floor, sliding to a stop in some rubble from the boss's earlier rampage. Confusion covered her face, how had it managed to see her behind it?

Several open eyes on the beasts leg blinked at her before shutting. "Oh god, that's gross." she coughed, traces of digital blood trailing from her mouth. Looking up she saw that her health bar was nearly at half, however their opponent was finally creeping below that. "Alright, next one for sure this time." her hands tightened on her sword once more, "Definitely have to hit next time."

"Wait, what?" Kat was confused as Mina was the brunt of Wushen's attack, "Damn, I was ready and--"

A shockwave of fire splashed into the lot of them. Katoka attempted block the attack with her sword but she was still hit with the brunt of it, her clothes smoking and a DoT appearing next to her health bar. "Shit, wasn't ready for that." She glanced around at the other groups as they were also hit with different elemental based attacks. "What was the monologue from? Freyd said something about Ronbaru?" she clicked her tongue in frustration. She hadn't taken part in those quests so she knew nothing about them.

"Sounds like trouble at home, do we know who he's talking about? Maybe we can shoot a message to someone on the outside to go investigate?" it was a long shot, but it was the only thing she could come up with. For now, she would stick to slapping him around.

Her attack connected with no issue, this time her focus being the dragon's underbelly. Once again she hit and ran, her hopes lying in the hands of someone with a bit more battle knowledge than her to find the chink in the boss's armor. Hopefully it would be before they all were toasted extra crispy.

Good, he was cracking jokes, at least that would lighten the mood just a tad. "IT'S HARD TO HIT AN 8 FOOT TALL EYEBALL CHESTED CENTAUR LIZARD OK?"

Katoka watched as their opponent turned and thrashed about the room, smashing into walls and gouging out chunks of stone with it's hands and tossing them about in a random attempt to hit something or anything. "What the hell is this thing doing?" she asked, as she slid on a patch of moss that she haphazardly stepped on. If she hadn't already been charging her next sword art she might have been able to recover in time, but unfortunately the system completed her action for her and pulled her just off to the side of the monster, causing her to crack the stone wall instead.

"Shit, I can't get my damn footing in here!" she called tugging her sword free and rolling backwards as another hunk of stone landed right here she had just been. "Phew, that was--"

She was hit square in the stomach by it's whiplike tail, her words knocked out of her just like her breath. Time seemed to slow down and she saw Freyd had also been hit just the same. The two of them smashing into the ground and tumble end over end until they hit the opposite wall with a crash.

Katoka made a mental note to never get trapped in the no no zone of SAO. It made hell sound like a vacation spot worth visiting. She watched as Freyd punched a hole into the monster, but that didn't seem to slow it down. Her sight turned to it's tail, which might serve as more than just decoration to the monster. Most animals with tails used them for balance, and if they could knock it off balance then maybe it would be easier to deal with.

"I'm going to try and dock it's tail!" she called to her companion, rushing in to sever the long appendage. As she was bringing her blade down the amalgamation moved with lightning speed just out of reach, her katana striking the floor with a clang. Kat looked shocked, when was the last time she missed? It had been... Forever?

Katoka snapped back into focus as she heard the creature roar, swinging one of it's many fists at Freyd. Both of the players rolled out of harms way as a shockwave of dirt and rock exploded from under it's fist. "Ok, how the hell is it so fast? It's huge!"

Her attempts to feign confidence seemed to have no effect. Freyd was on edge more than she had ever seen before. The tension in the air was thick enough to smother them. "The thought of being trapped somewhere like that, somewhere that you're not supposed to be or even be able to get to. It's terrifying."

Kat felt her eyes darting around frantically, trying to keep as much of the room in her field of view as possible. She felt small again, like she was level one and had gotten trapped in a dungeon with no way out. She opened her mouth to say something again but felt her skin prickle, it was here.

The monstrosity lunged forward catching them off guard, Freyd attempting to land a hit and missing. Katoka leapt back and drew her weapon, attempting to locate a weak spot on the glitched boss. It seemed to have five arms, all various sizes and shapes that were moving and undulating at once. A long slender tail whipped back and forth from it's rear as it stomped about on four legs, each one of it's a feet from a different mob stomped and scratched angrily at the ground.

The samurai didn't leave much time for her mind to comprehend the enemy in front of her, instead she lunged forward to attack. Her blade striking it's chest covered in what looked like eyeballs. She flinched away as each pupil focused on her, but the boss lurched and remained still. Thankfully she had managed to paralyze her opponent.

"Ok, this guy really needs to get a new plastic surgeon."

The boss's health bars flickered away as Katoka's effect on them wore off. She clicked her tongue in frustration, "Not so fast danger noodle."

Her sword began to glow once more, this time she held it low as she ran at the monstrous form of her opponent as it undulated and moved through the air. Once again electricity crackled and gathered around her as she advanced, her body turning into a blur as she leapt once again into the air. She swung Raijin's Corruption, a clap of thunder sounding as the blade connected with the digital flesh of the dragon. The cold metal dug into the mesh, leaving flecks of static and dripping venom and blighted ooze in the wound.

Once again the samurai was falling to the ground and landing in a roll to her feet. She just had to keep this up, she just had to keep adding DoTs and Paralyzing it so they could get a view of it's health to keep track. Katoka was helping, she was doing more than just hitting the bad guy over and over. She felt pride fill her every being, this was what it was to be apart of the frontlines, to have a role and a purpose. She heard Mina's call about her hate as she saw Wushen look in her direction.

"Shit."

She turned to look at them all for a brief moment and flashed a fierce grin, "No need to Switch just yet, we'll save that just in case. Let him come." She adjust he grip on her sword and faced the boss with a look of hard focus in her eyes.

"I--I don't think it got me." she managed after a moment to catch her breath. Whatever those things were had not been what scared her, it was Freyd's reaction to them. If something had frightened him? That was something to be worried about.

"How do you know about these things? What happened with them to have scared you so much?" she looked at him with genuine concern. As he looed around the room Katoka did much of the same, she didn't want to be taken off guard by those things next time. "I assume the boss isn't going to be anything pretty either then?" she attempted to insert a bit of humor into their situation, it was her defense mechanism after all. If Freyd was going to be this scared she needed to take a deep breath to calm herself. If he saw that she was calm it might help him remain calm as well.

Taking that breath she turned around, her face now a mask of determination, "I'll be fine. Let's slice and dice this thing and get the hell out of here. I don't need to come back to Elora without you, she'd kill us both."

That last attack had actually helped it seemed. The looming dread Kat had been feeling while being unsure of their enemy's health pool was quickly replaced with shock at the sight of six health bars. Thankfully they had depleted the first and were entering the second by this point, at this rate they could potentially hit his half health mark soon. The dragon turned hit attention to Freyd and attacked, this time hitting his mark. She took a step forward in concern but she saw his HP bar barely move.

Katoka let loose a sigh of relief, she knew that he wouldn't be tanking without being able to take a few hits, but it still worried her. She watched Mina attack, first of the group to react this time. The samurai followed suit, racing towards the massive dragon with her blade glowing bright blue. She planned on attacking the beast's head again but it whipped it's head around at the last second, causing her to miss her mark. Instead her blade bit into the scaled neck on her opponent. She didn't get the desired effects like the did last time, but at least she managed to hit him.

Leaping back once again she watched Wushen turn towards her, his gaze baring down on her small form. Kat took a step back, her grip on her weapon tightening. Mina was right, his attention was now pulled in her direction. "Shit shit shit shit, he's looking at me!"

Fuzziel's story was scripted to be sad, Katoka knew this to be true, but it didn't stop at just a sad story. You could hear the anguish in the dragon's voice, see the hurt in her eyes, and feel the hatred in the air. Kat's grip tightened on her weapon's hilt, the fabric creaking under the strain. She knew Freyd didn't see her as he turned to step into the shadows but she nodded to him in acknowledgment regardless. Just before she turned to follow she saw Elora step forward, giving the anguished mother her healing potions. Her grip loosened a bit at the sight. Taking a deep breath and releasing it she walked up to the two and placed a hand on Elora's shoulder when she finished.

"We will bring them back, just like our friend said. This I promise you." she nodded to Elora as well. "Together we can help."

Even though she didn't have lips in the same way that they did, Fuzziel managed to smile down at the two women. She took a deep breath and let it out over them, the air she released seeming to be willed with sparkling lights. A window popped up in front of them:

Katoka nodded and led Elora to the exit, being sure to pick up the pace so that they didn't fall too far behind Freyd.

Kat followed Elora as she made her decent down the ravine and into the mouth of the cave Freyd has pointed out. As the group entered the samurai noticed gouges and scratches in the walls and floor of the stone, this definitely looked like the right the right way. As the elven woman descended deeper into the cave Katoka made note of the greenery and various bits of plant life that still managed to thrive underground here. "Life finds a way" to quote a famous movie involving other large scaley creatures.

Kat notice Elora stop suddenly and before she could ask why she heard a roar and then she yelled, "B -- Big dragon!!"

The samurai charged forward, her hand on her sword mid draw as she saw the beast before them. A name appeared above her head <<Fuzziel>> but not in the usual color of an enemy mob needing to be attacked. Kat left her hand on the hilt of her sword cautiously as she spoke. "Don't attack yet! I don't think it's hostile." she looked under the dragon, taking in the sight of broken egg shells and the wounds on it's belly. "I don't think she is hostile. Look, she had defensive wounds on her underside and she's guarding a nest of broken egg shells."

Fuzziel turned her head towards Katoka and tilted it to he side for a moment before she spoke, "The little one is correct, I mean you no harm."

"WAH SHE SPEAKS?!"

Katoka found Freyd's uneasiness off-putting, "Yeah? I always carry some with me, why?"

She heard the amalgamations before she saw them. The slapping of flesh against stone, the scraping of god knows what, the groans and hisses. The hair on the back of her neck stood up as they came into view. They were wrong, all wrong. As if a child had taken several action figures of different species and glued them all together. It took all of Kat's willpower not to run away and throw up at the same time.

Freyd dispatched one of them with ease, the sound of it shattering knocked some sense back into the woman. She readied her sword and charged in, hitting the creature with the sword art she haphazardly charged while closing the distance. It took the hit and Kat watched it's health bar drop deep into the red, instead of dying on the spot it took a clawed pincer and swung it in Freyd's general direction. It was slow and almost lazy so it was easy to dodge, but it's lethargic attack still made Kat put some distance between her and the monster.

Kat was already moving before she fully traded looks with Star. She flanked the demon as it's attention was turned elsewhere, advancing from behind as a blue light radiated from her katana. She struck Azriel at the heel, severing his tendon and causing him to drop to one knee. His health dropped even more, just a few pixels remaining, teasing the samurai as if to say she was a fool to even try. She clicked her tongue in frustration, he was a lot tougher than she anticipated.

Her gaze shot to Mina, even if she missed her attack the menagerie of DoTs on the boss would surly finish him off for her. "You're up pink!" she called to her companion. Katoka was frustrated that she couldn't finish him off, but this wasn't the time for that. She would apologize properly afterwards. For now she readied herself in case she needed to attack once more.

By the looks of things their attacks weren't really doing much of anything. The lack of a health bar really didn't help them at all either. "What the hell are we supposed to do?" she asked aloud to no one in particular. Kat had done raids in MMOs before and generally there was some sort of mechanic that needed to be completed, a task or objective met to enter a damage phase or stun the boss. "What are we missing?"

Katoka watched as Freyd ran up to graffiti the dragon while he sent Persi to do what she did best, mess with enemies. She face palmed for a moment but didn't really see much else to do other than try attacking once again. Elora seemed to have the same idea as she stabbed the creature in it's under meat. "Well, a baby slap didn't work the first time, I guess I'll try something with a bit more substance."

The samurai sheathed her blade and crouched down into her preferred attack stance, removing a portion of her blade as a sword art charged in it's sheath. As per her signature, electricity began to gather and whip around her. Time seemed to slow her Katoka as droplets of sweat from her body and water that dripped from the stalactites from the ceiling almost seemed to hover for just a moment before she vanished from sight.

Reappearing again in front of the great dragon, the blonde had slashed him this time on the face. The red mesh of his wireframe showing from a large slash that dripped black ichor, the crash of thunder sounding a moment after as electricity leapt from the wound. Kat landed once more in a roll before retreating back to her party, pleased with her attack and hoping that did something to Wushen.

As she at her food Kat couldn't stop stealing glances at her hand. The ring would catch her eye and it would surprise her as she wasn't used to the sight yet. Each time though a smile would touch her lips and she would stare at it for just a bit too long before going back to her meal. It was finally happening. This had been a long time coming after all. This time there wouldn't be anything that would stop them, nothing to distract them from their plans or make them push the event back.

Aside from no one coming.

Kat quickly finished the food in her mouth, "Sam, what if it's too late for them to all come? It's already so late tonight." She would be upset if Elora or Freyd couldn't make it right then. Plus the food? The clothing? What would they do on such short notice?

"You know, I'm honestly not surprised. Cardinal loves to give you the weird stuff doesn't it?" Kat rolled her eyes.

When the husks of what looked like zombie bugs crawled out of their various hiding spaces a shiver went down the samurai's spine. "Case and point! What the hell are these?! Ew ew ew ew!" she watched as Freyd smashed all but one of them with an AoE. As he moves out of the way to let her attack Kat grimaced, she was not happy about having to fight a giant bug. Let alone a zombie one. The fact that it's health bar was in the red meant that she wouldn't have to do much to kill it.

"I hate this. I wasn't mentally prepared to FIGHT GIANT BUGS!" she screamed as she launched herself at the decaying arthropod. When she hit it there was a pop as it exploded into ichor and bits of carapace before shattering. The samurai shoot her hands and made a disgusted face as she danced around, "Ew ew ew ew ew it got on meeeeeee!"

It was almost comical how long they seemed to hang in the air before they fell.

Once gravity seemed to catch up the two players plummeted down into the depths of the cave, various rocks and debris that had been in the room above pinged and bounced off of the walls and the both of them. Once they hit the ground it was either by design or pure luck that the floor had been overgrown in a soft and rather bouncy bed of moss. Katoka managed to land face down having the wind knocked out of her. She rolled over with a groan and sat up after she caught her breath. "What the hell happened? Did you push the flush button or something?"

Kat climbed out of the moss bed and began to brush herself off, pulling various bits of rock and branches from her hair. Looking around the dimly lit room she could see one long hallway made of old cut stone placed along the walls, ceiling, and floor. "How in the hell did you manage to find a dungeon in here of all places? Wasn't this supposed to be a combat free quest?" she sighed and shook her head as she began to walk down the dark hallway to wherever it seemed to lead.

Seeing Mina take such a heavy hit made Katoka's blood run cold. She froze for just a moment, feeling her hand begin to shake. That moment was broken when Mina drug her out of harms way. It gave her a moment to take in her surroundings and watch the boss' movements. Watching Nari heal Mina she turned to Morningstar, locking eyes with him and nodding. Now was was not the time for more mistakes like that.

She returned to her blade to it's sheath and set herself in a low crouch, just a fraction of the steel of her blade visible. Light spilled from that exposed metal and electricity began to crackle around her. "Don't you dare lay a hand on any of them." she said out loud before she blinked out of existence, reappearing behind Azriel. Her blade now fully drawn and a wide cut now prominent in his chest, black ichor dripping from the wound. Electricity sparked from the red mesh of his body as he seized for a moment, a demonic groan escaping his maw.

Kat turned to her party and nodded to them. She wasn't going to let any of them die here.

"You don't have to spend every second of every minute trying to make it up to me you goof." Kat placed a hand on her cheek, "It's going to take time, patience my love." She sat down at the table as she listened to Sam speak. It had been the most she had said to her in so long that she wanted to listen. She ate a small amount of rice with her chopsticks and watched as Sam pushed her food around her plate. Things really had gone fast for them. From the time they fist met to now it had only been a few months and they were already engaged. It wasn't uncommon during times of war for couples to get married on the fly, and this was very similar. Two soldiers in a war for their lives, falling in love and marrying so they didn't have to die alone.

It made her stop to think, would their marriage last after this game? She closed her eyes and let that pass, that wouldn't matter now. They would have each other for as long as they needed one another. When she opened her eyes again Sam was on her knee in front of her, pulling out a ring box. Katoka felt her eyes fill with tears again, but not out of anger or sadness. Her hands shot up to cover her mouth and she held back a sob that almost escaped.

She nodded as she extended her left hand to Sam, "Yes Sam, let's finally do this."

"You know, I'm honestly not surprised that Persi did that. At this rate she could probably take on a raid boss." Kat laughed at the thought of the little shadow creature taking on a floor boss on her own. "Hey you think she could be our tank for the fight? Then you can punch stuff." She did her best boxing impression, throwing fake punches while make sound effects and hopping from one foot to the other.

As the two approached the large stone doors Freyd seemed to take and interest in some writing on the wall. Katoka looked at it as well but couldn't make heads or tails of it. It was almost like Cardinal was going out of it's way to make the text carved into it unreadable. This didn't stop the samurai from pretending like she knew what it said. "Ah yes, I see. I see." she mused as she held her chin in thought, looking over the lines as if she was reading it with ease. "Of course that's what it says, it makes perfect sense." She looked to Freyd, "Well I think I've figured it out, how about you?"

Kat listened as Sam talked, letting her say what she needed to because she knew that Sam had to get it off her chest, and because she wanted to hear what she had to say. When she had finally finished and wrapped herself around her waist, Katoka pet her head as she cried. Her emotions were in an uproar, jumping around from one thing to the next, but she remained quiet as she took a deep breath and exhaled. "You should know by now that I know just as well as anyone how it feels for someone you love to take a great risk with their life on the regular."

Kat placed a hand under her chin to lift up her face so that she could look at her while she spoke, "I know how hard it is. It hurts you, deep inside. But you shouldn't have kept that from me. You know that you can talk to me about these things." She grabbed at the front of her own clothing over her heart, balling it in a fist, "It hurts me that you would keep that from me. That you felt that the only way you could deal with your own pain was to push me away and not talk to me."

The blonde felt her eyes well up and her voice began to waver despite her trying to feel as strong as possible. "When you love someone and you make a promise to marry them you don't push them away because you're scared to lose them. That's a part of being together. A piece of being partners. You work through things together." She shook her head as hot tears finally spilled down her cheeks. "You know I love you. And I want to forgive you, but it's going to take time."

Katoka pulled Sam to her feet so that they could look at each other, despite their noticeable height difference. "I need to know that you're going to be here when I come back, because I will be coming back from this fight. I don't want to come home and find that you've decided it's done. Especially not when you haven't made it up to me yet." She looked at the table of food, "This is a good start though. Let's eat."

"And I'll take the right!"

Katoka advanced on her target, her katana held low as she ran. These enemies were certainly beefy, but she had taken down worse for sure. The only thing that concerned her was the armor they were wearing, it might be too tough for her blade. Bringing her ward up at a diagonal slash she cut the guard from hip to shoulder. She was sure that would have taken him out, however the guard shifted his weight towards her. Kat leapt back to get out of his range and saw that his health bar had only a few pixels left of red. That damn armor. Her blade was thin after all, not made to deal with metal made that thick.

"You have got to be kidding me! I knew I should have brought a potion with me." She turned towards Mina, "Sorry, it's barely worth a slap on the ass but he's yours!"

Not even a second after Kat called to mina did the guard explode into a spikey column of ice, followed by the newly made ice sculpture cracking and then falling apart into chunks. "Uh, nevermind. I forgot you did a thing to it."

From the depths of the temple came a rumble that shook dirt and dust from the rocks around them. "I uh, guess we should go inside?" Kat began walking into the temple and followed the hallway deep inside. As the footsteps of her and her party echoed off the walls around them it felt as though they were the only ones left in the whole structure, and for all they knew they were jus that. As the group came to the end of the hall they entered a large room filled with lit candles and what looked like a large summoning circle of some kind on the floor drawn it what might have been blood. Standing in that circle was what only could be described as a demon.

The creature stood roughly 10 feet tall with bright red skin, horns on it's forehead, bat light wings on it's back, and a long thin tail. It turned to the group and let out a loud roar before advancing towards them.

As they all stepped into the boss room Katoka kept her left hand on the hilt of her sword. She walked with her head held high and her chest puffed out, a walk of determination and pride in her group and herself. Then the beast revealed itself and her grip tightened on her weapon. It was massive. Much larger then she was expecting.

It took Kat a moment to collect herself. It was Freyd's voice that pulled her back into reality, his calm but stern voice relaying commands and outlining a plan. She trusted him and knew that he wouldn't let them down. Seeing him and Persi explode in a galaxy of light and darkness put a grin on her face, she was ready to fight. Drawing her katana the samurai stepped forward and readied her stance, her blade giving of a brilliant light as she did so. "Time to hit it where it hurts!"

She held back a bit, not using her full speed per Freyd's orders not to stun the boss just yet. So instead she ran at Freyd's back, jumping onto his shoulders before springing off of them to get a boost. "Pardon me, just borrowing some height!" She flew upwards, releasing the stored energy of her sword art and letting it carry her the rest of the way to Wushen as she struck him across the side, leaving a fire singed gash along his side.

Katoka fell into a half roll, half slide as she landed on the ground and readied herself once more to strike, "Alright who's next?!"

Anxiety at away at Kat's insides. It felt like some sort of beast was trying to claw it's way from her stomach, fit to burst from her at any moment. She had spent the day on her shop, finishing up last minute potions that they might need for the raid. That and trying to avoid another fight, or more forced silence. No, she wouldn't let it get that far. She as going over to Sam's house tonight, if it was another quiet filled evening she would just go home. Katoka didn't understand why Sam was so mad at her. Sam participated in raids, why couldn't Kat? She was stronger now. Faster. She could hold her own in a fight and not be scared like she used to be. Freyd told her she was ready and she believed him. Kat put the last of her things away before she left her shop, walking slowly to Sam's while staring at her feet. She wasn't going to back down, she was going to the raid. She needed Same to know that she wasn't a fragile piece of glass. She was a warrior. A fighter. A Samurai. She wanted to prove herself able to hold her own on the frontlines.

Kat hadn't realized it but she was already standing on the front steps to Sam's house. She bit her lip before taking a deep breath and then opening the door to step inside. "I'm home." she called out shyly, not eager to bring too much attention to herself. The smell of food hit her first, had she made? Kat shut the door and made her way to the dining area as her stomach growled from hunger this time. "Sam?"
