"Mopping up, you got it." Katoka called to Freyd as she flashed a grin.

The energy in the room seemed to thicken as the samurai assumed a different stance than before. The air hummed with electricity and the smell of ozone filled the dungeon, the hair on the kobold's head began to stand on end. Blinking out of sight, an after image of Katoka flashed briefly before her actual body appeared now standing next to the group. Her original opponent looked around confused before he jerked about violently as electricity jumped in and out of his body like a living serpant, fresh wounds becoming visible as it arched about. The energy then jumped to the Kobold Freyd had shoved at her where the monster quickly dropped to it's knees as it seized before them. Once it hit the floor and exploded into fractals Kat turned to her companions, "Who's up next?"

Katoka was surprised by the new person that had entered her home, but she quickly composed herself and gave him a sweet smile as he sat down. As he introduced himself she arched a brow at his mention of having eyes for Sam. She did reach out and grip his hand to shake it, though she did it a bit more firmly than needed, "As long as your eyes and hands remain where they are then I don't think we'll have any issue Lium. It's a pleasure to meet you nonetheless. I'm Katoka, Sam's soon to be wife."

She let go of his hand and turned back to Sam, "And I'm not mad at you love, just send me a message to give me a bit more warning next time." She stood up and kissed her on the cheek before pouring a cup of tea for Lium and topping off her cup. "Can I get you anything Lium? I have a few snacks and if you're really hungry I'm sure I can find something to throw together for lunch."

Katoka sat, sipping on a cup of tea that had gone lukewarm long ago while reading a book she had picked up recently. She hadn't had a whole lot of time to really dive into it like she had wanted, what with the wedding planning, game devastating storm of shadows, and the build up of dishes in her sink. Thankfully she had tackled the one that she despised the most that morning and was treating herself to a much needed rest for the time being. The breeze was cool and the day was just the right temperature to really enjoy the outside without getting too hot or cold. The blonde turned the page and drained the last of her cup before she heard the front door open, setting the book down she smiled as she heard Sam's voice call to her.

"I'm out here love, come join me on the back porch." she quickly looked to the teapot setting on the table and to her single mug, "I have some tea as well, but if you don't want to share a mug I suggest grabbing one from the kitchen on your way out."

Katoka felt her cheeks flush as Simmone's comment. The way she clacked past in her heels made her slightly flustered for some reason, maybe it was because she seemed like a runway model or movie star. The way she fought seemed almost like she was dancing through the battlefield, the enemies moving at her tempo and never he other way around. She dispatched the enemies that the small blonde had set up for her, their shattering fractals glittering around them all. Kat was surprised that one had even choked on what seemed to be some sort of poison.

Meeting Eruda's eyes she once again turned a shade of red at her asking for the wedding date, "I- uh- I'm not sure yet. We're still taking things as they are, especially after the storm." Following the group the samurai watched her fellow party member strike out at the new batch of enemies. Setting a few ablaze with her strike and then holding the rest of their attention as she called out for them to be finished off. Taking the opportunity to get drops of her own, she dashed forward into the middle of the group, drawing her katana in a whirling strike that cut them all clean through at the waist. As their tops separated from their bottoms before exploding into more shards of data, Katoka returned her sword to it's home. She nodded to Eruda, "It must be hard being a tank. You definitely do great work."

Katoka nodded at Freyd's advice. Even though they were the same level now, she still knew he was her senior in terms of combat. Even now he was stronger, wiping out all of the enemies surrounding him in a single move. She a fire ignite inside her, one of the desire to gain power. She wanted to fight and to win. This dungeon would be her means to do so. The drops from these mobs would be exactly what she needed to increase her stats.

As the group rounded the corner into a new corridor Kat spotted four new enemies. With her sword in it's saya she took two bounding steps before she crouched down, blue bolts of electricity arcing from her body as she did so. "Rend." she muttered before she flashed forward, four flashed of light followed each by cacophonous booms sounding off the dank stone sounding them. The kobolds all had been dealt fairly devastating blows, but they still managed to remain on their feet. One held the wound on it's chest as the pixilated glowing blood dripped form it's chest.

"Damn, I still a ways to go." she cursed looking back at the enemies that still stood.

Katoka didn't know whether she should be embarrassed or intimidated by Simmone's words. Her cheeks flushed as embarrassment seemed to win, causing her to laugh awkwardly and fidget in her new coat. Watching as Freyd smirked ever so slightly, she felt his mood shift as he settled into his battle ready mood. Drawing her sword the samurai followed suit and watched as her friend seemed to meld into the shadows and reappear like stepping into a fog.

Kat charged up her sword art as she charged in after the Kobold that had ducked out of Freyd's way. She slashed upward at him, from waist to shoulder, leaving a glowing red wound on him. She was displeased that she didn't kill him in one hit, but she remembered that the mobs down here were tougher than most things she had previously fought. She grinned as the thrill of the fight ran through her, "Let's tango big guy."

Katoka accepted the coat from Freyd and equipped it, she looked at it and raised a brow before turning back to her friend, "I appreciate it, though now I look like an anime protagonist. Maybe that's a good thing." She laughed and playfully jabbed him in the arm. Turning to the others she placed a hand on her sword, "I'm Katoka, we don't know each other well but I think we've at least seen one another in passing at some point. I hope we can get along well and collect some good gear today!"

Trying not to seem nervous she opened her inventory once more to double check her dear and equipped items. This was Kat's first real dungeon, and it was supposed to be a doozy of one at that. She knew that Freyd had her back since they had been on several adventures together, the other two she wasn't as familiar with. She wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt, but her anxiety was fairing up regardless.

"I fought because I was furious. I was angry at myself for not being strong enough to help you and for this damn game for doing that to us." Katoka released Elora and placed her hands on her cheeks, smooshing them together to make her lips stick out in a funny way. "We're fine now. We survived whatever this was. Reset, or purge, or whatever it was the system did. Now let's just. Be happy for a bit ok?" She let her face go and scooted next to the elven woman, placing her back against the bed. There arms were lightly touching, just enough for the other to know they were both there without having to look. Katoka closed her eyes and let out a sigh, "I'm sorry you had to go though that alone. Let alone at all. We all came here to escape from the real world and ended up getting trapped in this hell."

She looked over to her and swiped open her game menu, "But do you feel it? Like we're a bit stronger?" Looking back to her menu she navigated to her stats, the numbers were different before. Her overall level was lower but she definitely felt a difference. "I checked my friends list, everyone seems to still be alive. Have you gotten anything from Freyd yet?"

Katoka had heard about the Black Iron Dungeon, it's depths seemingly endless and it's inhabitants stronger than anything seen on the first floor. As she descended the steps she felt her skin crawl, she rubbed her arms in an attempt to stave off the feeling with no success. She wished Freyd would have at least met her at the entrance to escort her to the meeting area, maybe she wouldn't feel as creeped out. Checking her inventory once last time, something that had become habit when she was anxious, the samurai completely entered the dungeon.

Reaching B4 had taken time, but Kat managed to cut her way fairly easily through most of the enemies, and avoided ones when she needed to in order to make a speedy descent. Entering the safe area she saw the familiar cowl of her friend, as well as a woman she wasn't as familiar with. Straightening her back and placing her hand on her weapon in order to feign confidence, the small blonde approached the two.

"You couldn't have at least met me at the top? I've never been down here in this dank death hole." Katoka said she she crossed her arms and glowered at Freyd. Turning to the other woman she smiled and bowed slightly, "Hello, I'm Katoka. It's nice to meet you."

"I fought," she managed to choke out through the sobs, "I got so angry. I fought and I killed and the rage that filled me was terrifying. But when I lost you I couldn't stop." She pulled back so that she could get a better look at Elora. There wasn't a mark on her. No scratches, no dirt, she wasn't wet from the rain like she had last seen her. "In the end I was fighting back to back with Setsuna from the guild, we... We went down together." Kat felt a shiver run up her spine.

Taking Elora's face in both of her hands and gave her a tear filled smile, "We don't have to figure out what we want right now. Let's just, take things one step at a time ok?" Katoka placed her forehead against Elora's and let out a laugh that sounded more like a sob, "I'm so happy you're ok. I'm sorry I wasn't strong enough." She felt the rage that she used that night bubble briefly inside her before she let out a deep sigh to calm herself. "I'll never let it happen again..."

Kat let out a soft sigh as Sam kissed her neck while holding her from behind, she was right about their time table. If was difficult for either of them to spend much more than the short time at the beginning and end of their days together, sometimes it was less than that. The blonde picked up the dishes that her lover washed and began to rinse them off before placing them gingerly into the drying rack nearby before she spoke.

"I think that right now things are a bit hectic for everyone. Once things settle down I'm sure it will be much easier for use to find time to do tons more together. I would also love to meet your friends and for you to meet mine, though I really only have two other than you." She stood on the tips of her toes to kiss her on the cheek before taking a plate to rinse off. "Couples in the real world have the same problems too. Sometimes they get busy with work and don't get as much time together, but they make the time when they can. Just remember Sam, I love you and I wouldn't want to spend the rest of my life with anyone else."

Kat felt the warmth and love in Sam's embrace. She wrapped her arms around her soon to be wife and rested her head on her chest. She felt content being here, wrapped in her lovers arms, she almost didn't want it to end. After several minutes she turned her head up and kissed Sam lightly on the lips, "If we stay like this much longer I'm going to fall asleep. Let's deal with these dishes first and then we can go cuddle in bed." She wriggled out of Sam's arms and stood up, stretching a bit before gathering up the mess from their planning session.

Piling what she could on the tray she hefted it up and started off to the kitchen, "Come on now, if we hurry maybe I can give you a surprise." She giggled and continued into the kitchen with a playful skip in her step. Katoka placed tea tray on the counter and began running the water in the sink to warm it up.

Katoka watched as the door to Elora's room fell inwards and crumpled to the floor. She blinked a few times, very confused at how weak the hinges must have been to come loose from her light knocking. Her gaze drifted to the form of her green haired friend, holding out what seemed to be a metal flower in front of her.

"kat..." She managed to croak.

Katoka stepped slowly into the room, after crossing the threshold she covered the remaining to distance to Elora in two bounding steps. The samurai wrapped her arms around her, pulling her close into a tight embrace that would probably have crushed a normal person's ribs. Burying her face into the elven woman's hair she let out a choking sob, "E-Elora..." she managed to get out between wails. Kat felt her knees give and she pulled Elora to the ground as they embraced one another.

"I-I tried to g-get you out." she said as she grabbed handfuls of her tunic, "I'm sorry, I-I'm so sorry." She cried into Elora, hoping she could forgive her for not being strong enough. "I-I tried and I t-tried. But you w-were so deep."

All of the anger and pain that she had felt previously washed back over her. She cried hard. Harder than she ever had before. She had let her friend down, she watched her practically die slowly in front of her and there was nothing she could have done.

And it hurt.

Several hours pass as the girls discuss their plans. They manage to coordinate themes, as well as color schemes that while different still manage to blend together smoothly. With the location being the guild hall it was easy to plan where things would take place since they all had visited the location been there fairly regularly. The sun was beginning to set when Haine decided to take her leave, they all hugged and said their goodbyes. Kat settled into the couch and let out a tired breath.

"I didn't realize how much there was to planning a wedding. I'm beat." she slid from an upright position, falling sideways onto the cushions with a fwump. "Do you think we'll get everything done before... The fight?"

She felt nervous again, like maybe making so many plans when something so serious is approaching was in bad taste. Then again, weddings were happy, and might give people something to look forward to.

Raw, bone chilling cold was the last thing Katoka remembered before she let herself succumb to her vantablack prison.

With a gasp of breath the samurai bolted upward from her bed in her home. She was coated in a cold sweat and sucking in rapid lungfuls of air as her eyes darted around rapidly. Had it all be a horrible dream? For her to be in bed now it must have been. An alert sounded from her hud and a window popped up in front of her. As she read the word on the window she felt her blood run cold.

Tapping the ok button she quickly swiped her menu open and checked her level and gear. She then tabbed over to her friends list and checked to see who was 'online', this was a handy way to check and see if anyone she knew had died or not. Scrolling down she saw Sam, Elora, and Freyd were still online. Leaping out of bed she quickly typed a message to Sam telling her she would be by as soon as possible, she had to check on Elora first.

As the blonde sprinted from her homestead she made haste to the teleport, the thought of seeing her friend being consumed by the black mud still fresh in her mind.

Moving to Floor 1

Upon arriving in the Town of Beginnings Katoka didn't hesitate to take in the changes in the square, instead she sprinted down the crowded streets as she weaved and dodged her way to the familiar domicile of the Hummingbird Inn. Busting through the front door she didn't stop to listen or respond to he greetings of the Innkeeper, she frantically moved around the bodies of NPC's and other confused players before she stopped at the door to Elora's room. Panting heavily she raised her hand to knock and hesitated. What if her friend list lied? What if the room was empty and her elven friend was actually--

She shook her head, now was not the time for what ifs. Katoka rapped her knuckles on the door before her three times before calling out to whoever may reside inside.

"E-Elora? It's Kat. Are you there?"

"Field bosses huh? Sounds like it could be a fun challenge. Maybe they will take more hits than our friend back there?" she laughed. "Ugzeke? Have you fought them before? Were field bosses even a thing before?" Kat tried to remember if she had read anything on them in the past. Freyd rubbed the top of her head after he commented on not being used to her new strength, she pouted like a child and stuck her tongue out at him. 

"You should really think about seeing Elora you know. I'm sure she'd like to hear from you at some point." the samurai looked up at the town that was beginning to appear in the tree tops as they neared the start of their journey. She nudged him in the ribs, "Trust me, she wants to see you." She smiled and raised her arms up, interlocking her fingers behind her head to tack exaugurated steps forward. "I guess she just has a thing for guys in cowls that know how to beat up a monkey" she mused in a teasing tone.

She continued to add notes as Freyd made suggestions, "Right, right." She stopped and looked over at him, "I guess this is the life of a max level player huh? Making sure you can deal out enough damage without taking too much in order to progress even higher." Kat held her chin in thought as she imagined being in an actual boss fight.

"At some point I suppose we should find something harder to fight. That way we can actually experience combat that lasts longer than a few sword arts and really get a feel for this update huh?" closing the window she had opened, Katoka placed her hands on the back of her head and looked up at the forest canopy as they walked. The light passing through the leaves and onto her face still felt warm to her, a comfort that she was glad hadn't been changed. The fact that touch and warmth from simple things like clothing and sunlight still surprised the samurai from time to time. A game shouldn't feel so real, despite them living in it for as long as they all had.

"I would never reference Teen Titans Go, though the fact that you are as familiar with the episodes concerns me..." she laughed and shoved him lightly.

"Merging huh? Interesting..." Katoka began to think about the things she wanted and needed. She held her chin as she did when lost in thought and began muttering under her breath for a few minutes. Snapping out of her stupor she began to list things off, "I need new armor for sure, I'll stick with light since heavy is far too clunky for my liking. Now for my sword I feel like it can't hurt to have two on hand depending on the situation, like one for grinding/questing and one for boss fights. I do need a new trinket as well, not sure on the enhancements though."

Kat opened a text document in her hud and began to make notes for herself, listing off what she thought would benefit her on weapons and armor. "Oh, I'm doing it again. I'm sorry. With all the new information flying around and being max level with old gear makes my brain buzz when I think about it too much." She laughed and closed her document, rubbing the back of her head with embarrassment. "Any help you or Quip or Dingo can give though would be fantastic though!"

Closing and opening her hand in a flexing motion Katoka looked down confused, "Yeah, I guess I am stronger now huh?" Her mind wandered back to what had transpired just before and during the Storm. "The whole weird electricity thing I can do has certainty become more consistent."

She smiled and looked to her friend, "So now you're Robin. Got it bird boy." Flinging a bit more of the drool from herself Kat began to walk back to the village, "It's cool that you've got a new weapon. The one I have from Griswold is fine and all, but I need something that packs more of a punch." Her hand gripped the sword at her side, her feelings of regret at moving on from the sword that has helped her for so long.

The samurai held her chin in thought as they walked, "I haven't had the pleasure of really grinding out for gear yet. Wanna help me here in the near future?"

Katoka sighed when she turned around and saw Freyd gone. "Business as usual." she said just before the cacophony that followed. She was caught off guard seeing her friend wielding a large hammer rather than his usual sword. Her attention was drawn back to the Monkey as is roared in her face, covering her in drool and spittle. After a quick bonk to the head the monster collapsed to the ground and Kat attempted to flick some of it's spit from her body.

Her eye twitched as she angrily gripped her katana, "It's rude to spit on someone like that." Electricity crackled from her body, with a clap of thunder and flash of light she now stood on the opposite side of the prone Monkey. She returned her Katana to it's saya even though to the untrained eye it seemed as though she never fully drew it. She crossed her arms and their opponent burst into fractal shards before fading away.

"Hmpf, I was hoping to maybe get a few other things done today bit now I have to go home and wash monkey spit off of myself." the blonde turned to Freyd, "You couldn't have knocked him out a bit sooner? Also what's with the hammer?"

Sewallus, who was stood ready to attack next looked about in a daze. He scratched his head and turned to the two players, "I... How.... Thank you, for taking care of the beast. I had no idea there were people such as yourselves that were so strong."

A window pops up in front of Katoka and Freyd congratulating the two for completing their quest and Sewallus continues, "I wish to repay you by teaching you the skill <<Shatter>>." A new window pops up offering them both the option to learn the skill.

Pinching the bridge of her nose Kat sighed, "Can you not pick on the NPCs you dork. Sewallus, we would be honored if you joined our party." As Freyd accepted his invitation she saw in the left hand corner of her hud as his icon and health bar appear under their own. Nodding the samurai turned to the armored man, "I assume you can lead us to where the Monkey King resides?"

Sewallus shook his head, "We won't have to search far for him. You don't find the Monkey King, the Monkey King finds you."

Katoka arched a brow and looked to Freyd, "Well that was... ominous."

Sewallus gestured for them to follow him as he descended from the tree top city and to the forest floor, "Let us travel a safe distance from the village so we don't cause any accidental damage."

"Yeah that's probably for the best." the blonde said as she saw splintered remains of thick trees, as well as large footprints on the ground. "He's a big one huh?" she asked Freyd, placing a hand nervously on the hilt of her weapon.

"It was on floor 6 before?" Kat looked confused. "Did our info stored in the guild archive auto update then? Weird." she held her chin in one hand as she looked was lost in thought for a bit. It was nice to get back into the swing of things, even if it was a simple hunt and slay quest. Though their opponent was apparently a rather difficult one, she felt with two high level builds the two of them would be able to handle things no problem. 

"My weapon?" she looked down at the katana on her hip, "Nah, other than it raising in tier along with me it's pretty much the same. What about your sword?" As the two reached the edge of town Katoka noticed a man that seemed to stand out from the others, his white hair seemingly florescent in the greens and browns of the forest. He was crouched down over a flower, taking notes in a small leather bound book. The samurai gestured for Freyd to follow her towards him.

"It's odd that the max level is so low now right? Like I was just barely over 31 previously and I know you were far past it." she pondered aloud as they stopped a few feet from the man who hadn't taken much notice from them.

"Fishing..." she responded staring at him blankly, "You've just been.... fishing." Katoka continued to stare before she shook her head. "At least tell me you've gone to see Elora? Things were, rough there, for both of us." The blond rubbed her arm nervously with her other hand looking off to the side awkwardly. But she recovered and gestured for him to follow her, "Let's get this thing started then, I want to test these new skills and such in combat."

Taking the lead the samurai began crossing one of the walkways of the treetop village of Florenthia. She wasn't exactly sure where the NPC was supposed to be for this particular quest, but she at least knew that this was the town to find him. It didn't take long for her to get distracted by the village and all it had to offer. It was like a whole new experience every time she visited a town or floor.

"It's amazing. There are towns and whole cities that are exactly the same, except things are so different now. Everything looks so alive and more, real maybe? I don't know, is it just me?" she turned to face Freyd, "Have you been anywhere other than your new fishing hole yet?"

After exiting the teleport area Kat found herself in awe of the city she stood in. It seemed so full of life. The hustle and bustle of elves moved around her as if nothing had happened a few days ago, though she did see a few timid players exploring things in the safety of the city. A familiar voice from behind caught her attention causing her to turn around. There at the teleport gate was the whisper himself, Freyd. She knew he had survived the boss fight since he still showed up as 'online' in her friends list, but seeing him in person still sent a wave of relief washing through her. After a moment of silence Katoka found herself walking quickly up to her friend and wrapping her arms around him, putting her face into his chest as she let out a laughing sob.

"You sound like you haven't seen me in this exact same outfit for the past few months you idiot." she said into his chest, attempting to hid her tears even a little. "Where have you been? After the the fight and after the Storm and then the update. You were just gone."

Stepping away she wiped her face and faced him fulling, as much as a short blonde samurai could. It was odd to her that he didn't recognize her, her armor and sword were no different, though apparently they had grown in tier along with her after the change.

<<Monkey King>>

It had been a little over a week since the defeat of the Shadow and the Storm that had swallowed the rest of Aincrad. Katoka had finally decided it was time to venture out and test her new strength after the system wide overhaul. She had spent the past few days combing over her skill tree and carefully picking her new build. It was strange to her, being lower level yet swimming in skill points. Apparently she was max level now too, essentially a brand new frontliner fresh to jump into the fray.

After what happened though, she needed time to gather herself. She spent time with Sam and Elora when she could. Walked around some of the new areas on what used to be familiar floors. She grew antsy after a time. She eventually went over to the guild hall and did some research on some quests that could yield fruitful bounties, one that gave an extra skill jumped out at her.
