Sigh. Where the hell was he supposed to gather cooking materials? Sable stood outside the tavern, his gaze shifting from building to person to shop front in the Town of Beginnings. He could have just bought some things and brought them back, but that felt like a cop out. Pinching the bridge of his nose, he thought for a moment. The woods just outside of time was sure to have something, if it all hadn't been picked clean of course. He knew that over time certain monster spawns had dwindled after the players that were two afraid to leave this floor had hunted them clean. He shuddered a

Sable stepped into the homely tavern and smiled as he looked around. Krow had pointed him in this direction when he asked where he could learn how to cook. The scout had been doing some studying on survival basics and food was one of those necessary things. He could bring or buy he other things like camping gear and health potions, but food? Sometimes you had to cook on the go. What better way to survive than to cook what you kill. She had laughed at him, Krow, the idea of eating a monster while in a dungeon practically made her fall off her chair. Once she had regained her composure she point

The apparitions that walked the room had startled Sable. Did they appear once the door had been shut or had he missed them entirely during the commotion leading up to them bursting through the doors. Regardless they had looked almost completely corporal, unless you looked at them long enough to catch the lightest hint of the wall behind them showing through. As the two advanced into the mausoleum they passed by, and sometimes through, several thin and extremely pale individuals. "I wonder who they were." he asked aloud, inspecting a man and a woman having what appeared to be a fruitful convers -

The pressure was on. Sable made a mental note not to come back to this floor by himself. Ever. At least until he was much higher in level. Taking care to watch his every step, the boy hop, skipped, and jumped his way to the set of double doors. They were made of some sort of black wood that almost looked like pure shadow. There was no wonder he had missed them the first time he looked around the room. Holding up his torch he quickly took in as much as he possibly could. Two large door with handles made from some equally black metal. A pair of sconces on either side, one with an extinguish -

"Oh, right. Night vision." Sable chuckled awkwardly. He had felt elated at Acanthus complimenting his ingenuity. Sadly it faded rather quickly once she dowsed the torch he had lit for her. He took the clips of the climbing gear she had given him and attached them to himself in a way that seemed to make sense. He was sure that the system would take over in actuality, so he made about as much effort as he needed to. He watched his companion as she repelled into the darkness, finding himself surprised by how quickly she seemed to disappear. He found himself holding his breath as he waited to for -

Putting that information away for later, Sable attempted to focus on the task at hand. he would have to ask for more details later so that he could pass the info back to Krow. Not that he needed to or anything, it would just be nice to get paid for knowing something. "And for having another reason to talk to her." he thought to himself. he filed that feeling away for later well. As the two crunched through the gravel leading up to the entrance of the church, the boy still found himself looking about constantly. This floor set his nerves on end and it didn't help that it was the highest on -

Confusion was Sable's first initial feeling. Was Acanthus just acting drunk? She certainly seemed like she was. The way she wrapped her arm around him and told Krow that he had "plenty of stamina" kept replaying in his head. He tugged up his scarf again to cover his reddening cheeks. He snapped back to attention as his companion explained their mission more or less, with a mixture of slurred speech mixed in. He nodded along as they trudged through the decrepit starting town of the 29th floor. Had they frontliners really been coming here? From what he heard and could see, there was no safe -

Sable was thankful for Acanthus taking the reigns on this one. He was inexperienced negotiating with anyone, though after she dropped a bag of money on the table that could have easily bought him a home he was convinced that she didn't know much about negotiating either. Krow was fairly forthcoming with her information, but who wouldn't be with that amount of col in their pockets. Nodding a long the boy took a sip from his ale and was disappointed with the results. It had a pleasant enough flavor but wasn't it supposed to do something? Could you not get drunk in SAO? This made him frown as he -

"Oh! Right, my name is Sable." he extended a hand, embarrassed that he had forgotten to introduce himself. *** Their trip to the second floor had been uneventful. Sable had attempted to make small talk here and there but eventually he just fell into line. The crowded streets of Urbus made the scout feel as though he could be mindful of his wallet. Between the rough looking individuals and the beggars on the sides, it almost made you feel bad for them. He had to take a moment to remind himself that the NPC's were just programs, they weren't real and they weren't actually poor or starv -

She had said 'we'. Sable had accepted the fact that the person he had spoken to for the first time today would not be accompanying him anywhere. Hell he was certain it would have taken weeks of them exchanging pleasantries before he would have even gotten another chance to truly speak to her. Now she was waiting for him to get ready and follow her to. Wait had she said the 29th floor? He opened his mouth but no words came out. Stopping for a moment in confusion he held up a finger for her to wait as he stepped around the tree just out of view from her. He took a deep breath, holding -

He almost snorted at her quick response. He didn't want to mention anyone dying, it had felt almost taboo to talk about, at least around the first floor. As they two of them stopped at a nearby tree Sable nodded along as the woman spoke. This had been the first time he had really gotten a good look at her. She was strikingly beautiful. He smiled at her jab to the other frontliners, "I've heard that from other as well. I suppose showing up to fight the boss is the bare minimum for a few of them huh?" Her question about an info broker was a good one, he held his chin and thought for a bit. -

Routine. This had been what kept Sable somewhat sane. After all, what else would you do when you were trapped in a place like this? Ever since high school he had gotten up first thing in the morning and ran. It was hell at first. Sure he was fast, but there's a difference between running in short bursts, and running. With time it became easier, and he could go farther and longer. Joining the track club had helped immensely. By the time he graduated it had become a habit. And now here he was, imprisoned in a virtual world, and he was still getting up at dawn to run. It was almost easi -
Watchful eyes followed the shark that swam through the sand as if it was water. Sable adjusted the grip on his dagger, the threat of it slipping from his hand ever present as sweat from the desert heat (and the battle before him) trickled down his arms and the small of his back. He knew logically that no harm would come towards him, he could see that Terra Firma only had eyes for the katana wielding man giving orders, but deep down he could feel the fear from his primal monkey brain clawing it's way to his frontal lobe. His other party members kept up their assault against their opponent

Seeing their party leader jump in like the massive thing before them was nothing but a goldfish caused Sable's jaw to nearly unhinge for a moment. Sure, he knew that Freyd was strong, he could tell just by looking at him. He could also tell he was much higher in level when they all joined the same party. Seeing everything in action was a different story. Watching his two other companions jump in shook him out of his stupor. It felt idiotic running in like this, but it should be fine right? The man wielding a katana had promised them all that he would keep the sharks attention. Sable's fee

Sable nodded to you young woman wearing a mask that had introduced herself to him, "It's nice to meet you." he responded reflexively. He had turned to the other person in their rag tag party expecting a similar exchange of pleasantries and frowned when he wasn't acknowledged. Some people aren't ones for small talk. As the group left the cafe Sable munched on the food Freyd provided, attempting to take note of the buffs he had received and keep track of the conversation. "Did I bite off more than I can chew?" he thought to himself as they all trudged through the red sand. As they neared th
