Hello dear SAO players,

Today I'll be offering you an opportunity to participate in a tournament based on the Olympic Games from real life. This is just the first of the sport I have in mind of adapting for SAO use, depending on its popularity more may be coming up. So to cut the long story short these are the basic rules of participation:

  1. Each player will participate independently, in his own name and on his own responsibility.
  2. Entrance fee will be of 5k gold that will go into the prizes.
  3. Each fight will begin as a duel with the over health buff.
  4. The use of Sword Arts is prohibited!!!
  5. No consumables of any kind are allowed, just your equiped 3 items of which one must be a *one handed weapon plus whatever vanity items you want as long as they don't disturb you or your opponent.
  6. By entering this tournament you are acknowledging your willingness to respect all the above rules and the ones that will follow below.
  7. You may post your intention of participating but is up to the organizers to decide who's actually going to be in.
  8. There will be only 8 participants but they will be announced after a sign-in open period of one or two weeks (before this thread is closed.)

Now that we got the boring stuff out of the way let me explain to you the actual combat rules. First of all damage is irrelevant here as the duel will work on a score system rather than damage! so all you sword arts damage dealing freaks that didn't leave when you read the red writing, should leave now and you'll gain some time. For the rest.... here we go.

In this little tournament we will be using a new set of rules that would make use of all the dices available, namely the Battle Dice, Crafting Dice, Loot Dice and Mob Dice. For a better understanding of the following rules we will exchange a couple of terms: Loot Dice value divided by 2... rounded up (example: 13/2 = 6.5 ->7), will be referred as Offensive Deflect Value (ODV). While the normal Mob Dice will be referred as Defensive Deflect Value (DDV).

The ODV and DDV will work in the following manner, similar to the stealth system. After you land a hit and specify the area where you aimed your weapon at, you will add your ODV. On his roll your opponent, who has been hit, will use his DDV to determine if you get full points of half point on your hit. The points reward system will be listed bellow.

  • The Craft Dice (CD) will act as a in character aim for the above mentioned hit. Each different BD or BD grouping will determine a certain area and a certain number of points. Arm[left or right](CD: 1-3/ 4 Points), Shoulder[left or right](CD: 4-6/ 6 Points), Torso or chest area(CD: 7-9/ 8 Points), Head or cheek(s)(CD: 9-10/10  Points), Neck(CD: 11/10 Points), Heart(CD:12/12 Points).
  • Your opponent will will add your points in his post after he's rolled and posted his DDV. In return you will be in charge of adding his points after you roll and post your DDV.
  • VERY IMPORTANT: *One hand weapon users will get a extra bonus of +2 points to their aimed area. Example: CD: 2 (aim at arm for a total of 6 points instead of 4, this is because of their proficiency with a *one handed weapon ). Then it depends on the opponent's DDV if you get the full 6 points or just 3.
  • Landing a hit will use normal Battle Dice (BD) rules (6-8 BD = hit). Natural Critical hits however will add +1 point (for a nat BD of 9) or +2 points (for a natural BD of 10) to your overall score per hit, after deflection.

*One handed weapons officially recognized by the organizers:  One-Handed Straight SwordOne-Handed Curved SwordOne-Handed Dagger , One-Handed Assault SpearOne-Handed Rapier. The war hammer and whip are not included in this category, sorry.

To provide you with an easily understandable example, it will be something like this:

Quote

Your Turn: ID: (permaroll ID) BD: 8 (after modifiers) HIT  CD: 6 (Aims at his opponent's left shoulder) ODV: 3  Score: You: 0 - Opponent: 0

Opponent's turn: ID: (permaroll ID) BD: 6 (after modifiers) HIT  CD: 11 (aims at your neck)  ODV: 7  DDV: 4  Score: You: 3 - Opponent: 0 (because his DDV > your ODV, you hit but he manages to deflect some damage and you get half points)

Your Turn: ID: (permaroll ID) BD: 3 (after modifiers) MIss  CD: 6 (disregarded because you missed) DDV: 3  Score: You: 3 - Opponent: 11 (because his ODV > your DDV, you get hit without deflecting any damage)

and so on until the end of the duel. If you still have difficulties in understanding the rules please read the following test thread in which Calrex demonstrates how the system works.... I was there as a punching bag apparently: Quick test run
This is a simple test without the bonus/critical points and with a less final score.

  • The participants are required to posts their stats in their first post of their designed duel thread. The player who gets first hit will be determined by a linked LD roll on their second post.
  • The duel will end once the referee has calculated a score with a total of 45 points or more for one player as result of the example above. Once a conclusion has been reached, the losing party shall forfeit the duel by his own consent. Failing to do so will result in the referee's (and extra personnel if needed) intervention with using a sword art to lower the contestant's HP until the duel is ended by the system.

Of course, we can't have a tournament without prizes couldn't we so the first 3 places shall be rewarded... 1st and 2nd will be determined by the final match while the 3rd place prize will be awarded to one with the highest score between the losers from the semifinals, if by some dark magic their score is equal, a match between them will settle it:
