[SP - F6] Moving Forward, Pt.4

Morning light illuminated the third floor, and the rising sun brought cool and gentle winds through the settlement of Delilah. Takao grumbled as he pulled himself out of bed and set about making the preparations for the day. He dressed himself in his usual garb that was suited for combat, though he saved himself the trouble of carrying around his weapon in hand for now. After descending to the lower level of his rented half shop, half residence, the kitchen facilities were used to create himself and his freshly awoken familiar a small meal. Amidst his meal were two odd items: a golden apple whose metallic nature was, thankfully, only aesthetic, and a haunch of meat. When two separate icons appeared beneath his health bar to denote the activation of a pair of buffs, Takao stood and equipped the rest of his accouterments and headed out toward the third floor's warp gate, headed to the sixth floor.

Takao spotted a few groups of enemies in the distance. They were the same kinds he'd fought on the third floor, very simple monsters based off praying mantises. Their attack patterns were predictable, their damage was negligible, and their health was high enough to warrant their systematic slaughter. He was careful with pulling the enemies close to him, and made sure that he didn't catch the aggro of more than four before moving away from the larger groups with the small horde of monsters in tow. Their AI was simple enough to manipulate, so herding them all close enough in preparation to use a sword art was simple. Takao positioned his blade off to the side and waited for the pull of the system to tell him that the sword art was ready for usage, and relinquished control of his avatar afterward. By the system's guidance, he leaped into the air and preformed a rather unnecessary flip before returning to the ground to slam his blade into the earth. Sparks of electricity rippled outward to electrocute the four monsters, reducing their health down to zero one by one until they had all been defeated.

Takao allowed the monsters no time to prepare, nor to react or begin their own assault. Instead, he prepared a sword art immediately after pulling them to the location he'd selected. The blade in his hand began to glow blue and purple upon being positioned in just the right way, and he released control of his avatar to the system upon feeling the tell-tale tug that signified the usage of a sword art. He was carried through the motions that lead to his blade finding its way into each of the monsters, cleaving them in twain and reducing their health gauges to zilch. The mantises exploded into colourful confetti-like pixels mere seconds afterward.

Takao backed away from the larger collection of monsters as they began to congregate into one massive horde. He counted several more monsters than he cared to engage in one go, and a considerably larger amount than he could even handle with a single sword skill. He'd been lucky these past few times he'd gone hunting and been able to maintain a manageable amount when fighting, and this horde before him was just too big at the moment. Instead of engaging them recklessly, he opted to fall back for a while and regain his strength.

Takao gave the blade in his hands a twirl by rolling his wrist as he looked between each of the four sets of eyes that stared daggers toward him. They wanted him dead, he wanted them dead, their feelings of dislike and murderous intent ran parallel with one another. Of course, Takao's intentions were far less malicious than seeking the wanton death and destruction of them solely for his own enjoyment. With their defeat came his progress, and allow it wasn't as much about level progression as it was materialistic, it would help him move forward and prepare for the future regardless.

He didn't beat around the bush, and delved straight into the usage of a sword art. His blade shone the typical mixture of blue and purple that had become a staple of his tactics, and his body moved automatically. The brunet cut through the monsters, executing each of the four mantis-esque beasts in one fell swoop. Takao rolled his shoulders when the dust had settled and straightened his posture while reading off the contents of the results prompt.

The battle between Takao and the newest horde of over-sized praying mantises was as brief and uneventful as all the previous engagements. He lured them away from any other monsters in order to protect himself during the sword skill's brief post-motion, then prepared the sword art itself and unleashed it onto the enemies. His body moved, sparks flew, heads rolled, and in the aftermath only Takao was left standing. Or, in this case kneeling, as that's how the system had left his body after relinquishing control. He slowly stood after a moment had passed and checked his inventory. "Huh... Not too bad so far. I still have plenty of daylight left too. I'll rest up a bit and keep going afterward."

Takao spun his blade and slammed the flat against his shoulder again. He slid the blade into the scabbard on his back and pulled the entire assembly from his person, allowing him to set it in a soft patch of grass and promptly drop onto his bottom shortly thereafter. Despite his burning desire to continue to progress, a quick spot of rest would do him some good. There wasn't anything to be gained by going into combat without a proper store of energy to back his actions up.

After checking his inventory, Takao brought out one of the many items that cluttered the list and drank it in its entirety. When he finished, the item disappeared-- it did nothing for his energy, but it was a nice refreshment. It was minute and barely noticeable, but it'd be enough to fuel his next sword art before he found himself completely without the energy to continue. He pulled is sword from the ground once more and moved to search for more of the monsters he'd been grinding away at, hoping to hurry the search along.

As the monsters seemed to be consistently spawning in with groups of four, which was incredibly convenient given the limitations of his AOE, Takao found himself with plenty of down time on his hands. He opted to rest up and prepare for another assault, and he'd arrived at the assumption that another few hours of grinding would be sufficient before we began the search for the dungeon. A massive profit already metaphorically sat in the comfort of his pocket, and despite the arbitrary changes, he felt somewhat confident that he'd be able to reach his goal regardless.

With a bit of time left to kill before he felt confident in re-engaging the monsters, Takao set about selecting his next four quarries. The mantis-like monsters' size seemed to correlate with how much health they had, so he chose a group of smaller monsters to be his quarry. Slowly, he rose to stand, and after giving his sword an unnecessary twirl by rolling his wrist as a means of testing the weight and balance, he advanced upon the monsters with the intention of slaying them for their loot. Surely the act wasn't malicious though, despite how barbaric it seemed, for the monsters would sooner see his head removed his shoulders regardless.

Takao gazed down at his inventory, having selected his next four quarries but not quite feeling up to engaging just yet. He could feel the effects of carrying so many items already, as his movements felt sluggish and his body seemed less reactive than normal. It was an excellent sign for him to take a break and call it a day. He closed out of the hovering menu, gave his inventory a quick glance over, and sheathed his sword before staring off in the direction of his rented shop-residence hybrid. With an entire array of new materials to work with, he'd surely have his work cut out for him while preparing for the boss fight.

"Alright, just four of you again." Takao commented as he pulled four of the large mantis monsters from the pack. Pulling more than he could kill in a single sword art would be dangerous. He wasn't wearing his armour, which meant he was susceptible to sustaining large chunks of damage. When that damage was multiplied by four different sources, well... That only spelled trouble. Takao cocked his arm back and prepared the sword art, then released control to the system and promptly obliterated the monsters standing in his way.

"Last four," Takao announced aloud as the final four praying mantis monsters scuttled toward him. The post-motion rigidity of the last sword art he used wore off just in time for him to repeat his earlier success, and allow the system to take control of his avatar. As a result, each of the monsters found his blade cleaving through their bodies, cleaving them in twain and reducing their health gauges to zilch. When the metaphorical dust had settled, pixels fluttered away in the wind, and a results menu appeared before him.

"Okay then. Let's have a look around here. Hopefully I can find and clear this one quick, then move on to the seventh floor. After that I've still got the eleventh to go..." A long sigh left his mouth as he glanced around. The day was droning on now, and he still had plenty of work to do. Dungeons needed clearing, and his experience bar needed filling. It wouldn't do it on its own, so it was just about time he found the dungeon and got to work.

Takao checked over his equipment one last time, briefly examining the durability of his weapon and armour. Both seemed to be in acceptable repair, which would permit him to continue on his way for a while before a blacksmith and tailor would be sought out for a spot of maintenance. "Okay... Now if I was a dungeon, where would I be..?" He muttered to himself, beginning to search the area for points of interest.

"Y'know... I really should see if he would sell me these gloves, man." Takao said, speaking to himself as he searched around the flora that populated the sixth floor. Forests were his favourite, even if they did house some of the more undesirable monsters. He really didn't like insects-- spiders especially, if his most recent excursion on the fifteenth floor was any indication of such. Their systematic culling was a welcome sacrifice, and he would surely be grasping the fruits of his efforts soon enough.

Takao's searching had brought him to the furthest eastern corner of the sixth floor, where the thick jungle became less so. Light from the sun pierced the thick canopy sparsely within the heart of the woodlands, but on the outskirts it was much more abundant. The shade from the large trees was much appreciated, even if the humidity and otherwise heat from the floor was undesirable. Pressing onward, Takao continued on the hunt for the elusive sub-dungeon.

"Alright, should just be up here a ways," Takao muttered to himself, emerald eyes glancing to and fro as he scouted the area for both the dungeon he sought as well as any monsters that might've been in the area. Nothing showed itself despite his rather conspicuous manner of strolling through the underbrush, which either meant the monsters in the area were so far beneath his level that they hadn't bothered with engaging him, or there were simply no monsters there to begin with.

Takao glanced down to his menu as it was called forth and sifted through the options. He navigated to the skills window and, after noticing a small build up of skill points that needed allocation, opted to put them into his search and detect skill. As a result, a mod known as Reveal was unlocked and promptly purchased with the remaining points. "I bet this'll come in useful," Takao said as he closed his eyes, activating the skill. "Let's give it a quick test run."

"Oh, wow." Takao mumbled aloud whilst he glanced around the area. Trees and foliage offered no cover for the small beasts hidden within. His green eyes, which were glowing an especially vibrant hue with an accompanying overlay that added a mechanical appearance, scanned the area in search of his prospective quarry: a sub-dungeon. He had been hunting for it for quite a while now, and with the skill now aiding him, it seemed considerably more likely that it would be found.
