[PP-F5] An Unlikely Trio <<Blood in the Sand>> - Complete

Recommended Posts

A violet-haired blacksmith stepped out of her shop with the morning sun beating down on the fifth floor as it did every day in the desert biome. Squinting up at the sky, Teion brought a hand up to shade her eyes, a blank expression on her face. The woman began to make her way towards the center of Fortaleza to see if the bounty board contained anything that would interest her today. The act had become routine for her lately, looking for lower-level players that were willing to hire her for a job here or there. If it got her experience, she was interested.

With a slow stride, the woman didn't spend long in the town before another player caught her eye. A smaller, fragile-looking girl with bright orange hair stood next to her destination, as if waiting for someone. Trying not to display a look of suspicion that mirrored her thoughts, Teion calmly continued over to the bulletin board in order to scan over any new requests--the only unfamiliar flyer she could see was posted right beside the strange girl. Reading it over, the requester sounded like a player with a healing build, and the request itself was for taking down a field boss. Teion frowned in thought, mulling over the job.

Aster nudged at the side of her glasses to reposition them on the bridge of her nose. The girl stood patiently beside a player request board, staring ahead calmly while she waited for another adventurer to accept her request. She had sent a message to the martial artist that had helped her to complete the quest herself, curious to see if he would be interested in helping her. Husky seemed strong, but she figured it would be best to recruit another person for the endeavor. As much as she didn't want to admit it, she wasn't as confident in her healing abilities as she would like in order to take on a field boss with two people.

She had waited a while before another player made their way over to the board and began to inspect the requests. Aster paid the purple-haired woman no mind, continuing to wait patiently until she was directly approached.

Things were becoming more and more monotonous for the Hakkasan Tavern's owner. Following his morning routine of waking up early, sipping away his cup of tea, went out and search for materials, or leveling up, and return to the tavern and started working, Husky felt like this is slowly, but surely becoming his life. However, while he was just ready to went out and get started, Husky received a notification from his inbox. It was from Aster. "It's been a while since I helped her with the quest, I wonder how is she?" Husky thought, opened the note she sent. "She need help with a quest... Oh, I have been looking forward to do this one." The brunette told himself, changing schedule for the day, and packed up some consumables for the journey ahead and began to make his way to the 5th floor, where the barren dessert lies.

With the teleporter in town, getting up toward the fifth floor was no big of a task. Once reached the destination, Husky saw Aster stood waiting next to the bill board, waiting for him. Waving his hand, Husky approached the girl of orange hair. "Hello there, friend." He greeted, his face grew the same friendly smile as usual. "You ready for the quest?"

Deciding it looked the most interesting and rewarding thing she could do with herself at the moment, Teion pulled up her menu and typed in the player's name from the request. Typing out a short message that she would accept the request and was available immediately, the blacksmith hit send and took a small step back as she decided it was best to wait where she was.

A few seconds passed, and the a notification appeared in front of the orange-haired girl, who seemed uninterested this whole time. Teion's eyebrows shifted in curious suspicion, but she remained silent as the girl opened up the message and looked to be responding. As if proving her hunch, once the strange girl had finished her reply, Teion received a message in front of her. The purple-haired woman stared at the requester, who seemed to immediately turn her attention towards another person that had approached.

Aster rocked back and forth on her heels before Husky approached, causing the girl to smile and give a wave back in greeting. She was glad he'd accepted her offer--she was finding things like this were near impossible for her by herself since she hadn't bothered investing anything into damage dealing abilities. "Of course. I hope you don't mind if we have another person," The girl pushed up at her glasses again, finally turning her attention to the nearby axe-wielder. "It would likely be difficult with only one damage-dealer."

Aster offered the purple-haired woman a curtsy and brief introduction. "My name is Aster, the one who issued this request," She motioned to the bulletin board. "Thank you for joining our party."

"Works with me. The more people there are, the more firepower, right?" Husky smiled. Seeing a new player joined the party, Husky extended his hand, offering a hand shake. "Good morning. My name is Husky. Pleasure to meet you." He spoke in a friendly, but polite manner. After introducing himself, the man prepared for the fight. He opened his inventory, checking if everything is in order and readied to use. Husky took the quest item from the Queen Wasp which he had acquired some time back, and applied it to his gauntlets. The gauntlet shone brightly, before returning to normal.

"All right, that's done with... Now, shall we head out and get this quest done with?" Husky asked, moved forward to the town's entrance, looking back at the two girls. "I'll be waiting for you two by the gate. If you're done preparing, go ahead and meet up with me there, so we can head out." He told the two, before making his way toward the entrance.

Teion blinked in surprised as the girl in front of her nonchalantly introduced herself. Feeling a bit foolish, the blacksmith offered a reluctant bow in return. The other person, a man who looked around her age introduced himself as well. Teion accepted a brief handshake, simply speaking her name in return, "Teion."

The man hurried about his business to prepare for their excursion, and Teion's attention was forced back to the cheeky girl. She scowled only slightly, but inwardly shrugged. 'A job's a job.' She decided, turning to follow Husky's lead. She had nothing left to prepare, so she would go ahead and group up at the city gate.

The girl smiled as Husky reacted positively to their third member. She wasn't great with strangers, but maybe having someone familiar around would ease her mind. Seconds after the thought crossed her mind, the woman's curt reply caused Aster to frown. As Teion and Husky had now both gone off ahead to the city's walls, the girl let out a sigh. Bringing a hand up to her chin, some idle thoughts crossed her mind wondering whether or not this would work out after all.

"Mm, worth a shot." The orange-haired girl quickly decided with a shrug. Checking over her equipment, Aster hurried in the same direction as the other two, and after a few minutes the trio was reunited at the city gates. Aster clapped her hands together and pulled up the information she had on the field boss they would be seeking out. Pushing up her glasses, the girl began to explain, "The monster is called a Sand Shark. It moves around below the surface and attacks from underground. No special abilities to speak of, but it has a decent health pool and damage." The girl looked to Husky before giving a small nod. "I don't have any data on its movement, but it will likely follow a set path in between the two cities." Aster wasn't very keen on leading the way, so she opted to wait for one of the others to make the first move.

It didn't took long for everyone to gather around the town's entrance, as they discussed about the boss before the three head out. Husky listen closely as Aster explained how the boss works, and what does it have in store, as well as it's movement pattern. "So, all we need to do is waited for the boss to come to us. it's better than searching aimlessly in the desert for where the boss is." Husky suggested, pointed toward a high sand hill toward outside of town. Camping above, they can get a better view of the area surround them, making the scanning job easier for them.

It's been a while since the three had set up their post for the Land Shark, and yet, it doesn't seemed to be approaching near town yet. Alas, it arrived. While looking toward a distance below, Husky saw something moving. A shark fin, moving around beneath the sand. "Guys, found the boss!" The brunette warned the two companion of his of the impending danger. It's best for him to approach the boss, since he was the one that's capable of tanking the monster efficiently. But this is the risky part of his plan. Husky slid down from the sandy hill, while opening his inventory and pulled out the small Grape Wine bottle he had brought with him. Chugging the whole bottle down, Husky went and faced off the monster alone, acquiring it's attention, so the other two can reposition themselves without getting attacked.

As the group head out into the harsh desert, their sights were set on a sand dune that would give them a good vantage point while they kept watch for the boss. Teion followed wordlessly behind Husky's lead, keeping an eye on their surroundings in case the boss or any other creatures would interrupt them.

The trek didn't take long and was surprisingly uneventful. Even with her <<Search & Detect>> skill active, the most she could sense was a stray material hiding in the shifting sands. Taking only a moment to retrieve it, their group made good time getting to their lookout position.

Readying herself for when the monster would show itself, Teion drew her axe once they were atop the hill, holding it loosely in both hands as she and Husky scanned opposite sides of the desert. She turned at attention when the man announced their target had been sighted, gripping her weapon as they would soon be engaging.

Aster followed behind the two fighters at a steady pace, making sure not to fall behind. The atmosphere was a bit more tense than she would have liked, but she hadn't planned on playing mediator. 'She seems depressing.' The girl thought simply, staring at the violet-haired woman's back. She mentally shrugged it off, finding no logic in dwelling on personality traits. They were here to kill a boss, and her focus would remain on the task at hand.

When the time the group reached their destination, the girl waited around idly, squinting out over the vast stretch of sandy hills. Also comfortable with the silence, she kept to herself until she heard Husky's voice warn them of the monster. The name in red, <<Sand Shark>> floated above the gray fin that weaved its way through the sands in their direction. Aster smiled in satisfaction, readying herself for the battle, when her attention was pulled back to the brunette. He had pulled out a bottle of liquid, quickly draining it. "H-Husky?" Aster started with uncertainty, "is that--" Before she could verify the contents of the bottle, the man was moving forward to engage the boss.

By the time the Shark had approached him, Husky from being tipsy was drunken out of his mind. He had underestimated the wine, and all thought it was just a game, the simulation was just as real as it can get. Provided with the fact that he wasn't a heavy drinker in real life, Husky could barely make up a sentence. His leg unsteadily stepped forward, as Husky ran toward the boss, his fist glowing bright golden, as the Warrior threw the first punch. The <<Delayed Sword>> Sword Art connected, and his punches landed toward the shark as it emerged from the ground to attacked him. The shark got a bite from his hand, but the reflective damage from his armor had returned portions of the damage back.

Husky swung his hand, seemed sloppily but yet with great ferocity. His fist landed onto the shark, as Husky followed up with another side-winder kick to the weak point of the shark, taken down a reasonable amount of damage from the thing. The shark left an opening gap for the two other girls to attack, before dove back down into the sand, vanished from view.

A smirk had grown on Teion's face as the battle was imminent. Her expression quickly shifted as the man named Husky charged ahead after drinking an absurd amount of what was unmistakably alcohol. To her surprise, the drink didn't seem to inhibit his fighting ability, so the axe-wielder gave a light shrug before she followed-up his attack. The blade of her axe shone a bright blue as she activated the <<Ultimate Breaker>> sword art. The axe's movements flowed as the programming carried her through the attack, slicing at the shark's flank three times.

Aster balled her hands into fists, white cloth covering her knuckles as she watched the battle begin. Both Husky and Teion dealt heavy blows to the shark, dropping its health below half in a matter of seconds. The girl assessed the party's health pools, holding back a chuckle as Husky's health bar moved by a single point. Giving her left palm a light punch, she decided the only way to make herself useful at the moment would be to try her hand at her new Martial Arts ability.

Running up at the shark's opposite flank from the blacksmith, Aster skidded to a stop beside the monster, throwing out a punch. In just a slight miscalculation, the girl's swing went wide, just barely missing the shark's hide.

Husky had his head bobbing side to side. His vision was spinning wildly, and Husky could barely stand up straight. The ground soon rumbles beneath their feet, as the shark lunged up from beneath the sand and splashed down onto the Warrior in Silver. Husky was knocked off his feet, and away from the shark when it attack. Missed the momentum on his own attack, Husky was unable to do anything. "I'm... ok..." Husky mumbled, getting up from the ground, brushing sands off his chest and shoulder.

The shark sat on the ground, shaking and flapping wildly, but it didn't hit anyone, since Husky's position was further away from the two girls. After flailing around, it stopped before going back down into the sand. There was a small gap that allowed Teion and Aster to attack.

Husky seemed to be feeling a side-effect of whatever it was that he had drank. The man seemed more than unsteady, but Teion couldn't take her attention away from the fight. The battle was proving easy for the three of them, and she wouldn't allow the creature to turn the tides. As the shark flailed and thrashed on the surface, Teion grit her teeth before activating the same sword art, <<Ultimate Breaker>>. Her blade echoed the blue glow before slicing through the shark's flesh, causing it to cry out with a roar.

The woman smirked, pleased with her work as the creature burrowed back into the desert floor.

"Husky?!" The girl ran over to the man as the ground shook beneath them. Aster lost her balance for only a moment, but quickly closed the gap between the two. She gingerly placed a hand on her shoulder, hearing him mumble under his breath. "You're not okay..." Aster muttered, recognizing the clear signs of the alcohol affecting his system. 'Why in the world would you do something like that?' She thought harshly, turning her attention back to the shark as it shrieked with Teion's attack.

Squeezing her free hand into a fist, the girl left the man's side to make another attack against the monster. Running up the same way as the last, Aster planted her feet firmly to the ground and threw a straight punch at the shark's thick skin. The blow connected this time, ticking down at the boss's health.

His plan was slowly backfiring. The world is spinning upside down, and if he doesn't act fast, Husky afraid that he would be a nuisances, both to himself and to the two companion with him. Husky didn't want to let anyone down. Stepped forward and shook himself away, Husky saw the monster prepared to dove back down to the ground. He have to act fast, if Husky wanted any chance to deal more damage. Running toward the land shark, Husky let the Sword art charged up. Swung his hand forward, the Warrior in Silver punched the shark in a quick section, chained by another punch, and another. All punches aimed toward the grills and the eye of the shark. Shrieking in pain, it flailed and swung his head around, trying to bite Husky, but he ducked under just in time, and threw yet another two punches toward the other eye of the shark. Finally, the attack sealed the deal, as the shark glowed brightly and explode in millions of tiny particles. The "Congratulation" notification popped up above where the shark was, telling them that the quest has been completed.

As Husky's last attack finished the beast off, Teion lowered her axe and eased into a normal standing position. The woman walked over to the other two players before sheathing her weapon behind her, offering them a slight smirk. Satisfied that the job was finished, Teion curiously turned her attention towards the brunette. "That was some technique," She started with a half-smile. She wasn't sure what state the man was currently in, but the completion of their quest in such a short amount of time had her in a good mood.

The blacksmith brought her hands up in front of her to crack her knuckles, looking out over their surroundings to keep watch for any stray mobs that might wander too close.

Aster let out a sigh of relief once the field boss shattered into shards and pixels. A small smile tugged at the girl's lips as she saw Husky had finished off the monster with an impressive critical sword art attack. Perhaps she was too harsh on the man's actions--after all, there were still so many different aspects of the game she still didn't know about or understand, as much as it begrudged her to acknowledge it. Walking over to the other two players, Aster gave them a thumbs up for a job well done. "Not as difficult a challenge as I'd expected. Good job." She offered a small curtsy, more towards Teion with this being their first meeting and more of a formal job than a favor between friends. Still feeling a bit uneasy, the girl then turned her attention back to Husky, raising an eyebrow as she tried to gauge his state of mind. "You alright?" She asked simply, "We can head back to town and claim the reward. You should rest if you don't feel good."
