[PP-F2] A Solid Proposal <<Breaking the Unbreakable>> - Complete

Recommended Posts

A blonde girl stood alone, leaning back against a tall brick wall in the middle of Urbus. Kooh had parked herself just next to the player request bulletin board, hands resting comfortably in her pockets. The girl's ruby eyes idly scanned the players and NPCs going about their business in front of her. She would wait. Tacked to the board next to her was a very crudely-written request that vaguely mentioned an important quest that would award an extra skill.

A few minutes passed, and Kooh tilted her head up to look at the blue sky overhead. A few more minutes passed, and she hung her head down to stare at the cobblestone floor at her feet. She felt herself growing anxious and impatient. She bounced the heel of her right foot against the ground a few times, wondering how long it would take for someone to notice her incredibly interesting request.

Helios leaned back on a bench across from the bulletin board, which looked like it was cluttered with requests. He couldn't help but notice the aggravated blonde-haired woman who was leaning up against the wall, next to the board. Part of him wanted to walk towards the girl, however the other part knew it wasn't his business to do so. I need to find a quest. Yeah, that's a good excuse. he decided. Standing up, Helios began to step towards the player request board and examine the various different quests which he was able to accept. The dark-haired man noticed one that seemed interesting enough and pulled it off of the board. Reading it over, he quickly changed his mind. "Not this quest again..." he sighed, remembering his last encounter with the large boulder.

Luke had struck a deal with the fruit selling NPC, everyday the brown haired boy could pick one apple from the lot for himself. Winking at the NPC boy and tipping his chin, he picked his juicy apple. Vic tossed the fruit as he strolled across the town. The boy hadn't had great luck with females so far, quite frankly he missed the attention. As he took a bite out of the fresh red goodness and even felt the juice dribble down his throat, his eyes fell onto a blonde standing next to the player request board, in a rather impatient manner. Casually, he ambled towards the board and scanned the request list. As he finished, he noticed the last one, scrawled in an almost illegible manner, he swallowed the lump of chewed up apple and then turned to the girl. "I assume the last one is your, request." He said with a smile in her direction. He'd been wanting to get to that quest in any case. "An unlocked skill could go a long way, smart choice missy." He said, keeping the condescension out of his voice. "Victor." He introduced himself "And I'd be happy to join." The guy finished, taking another bite out of his apple.

A voice cut through the silence surrounding her, and Kooh's head raised quickly as her eyes fell on a brunette man that about matched her in height. When she saw the smile on his face and processed his words, the girl's face took on a wide grin. "Right?" She started excitedly towards his comment about the skill. "Kooh," She returned his introduction. The girl was just about to open her mouth to thank him for his agreement when another figure caught her attention. A dark-haired man stood in front of the bulletin board now, and Kooh leaned over, craning her neck past Victor to get a look at the person. Her eyes gleamed when she spotted the piece of paper in the man's hand, ignoring the disinterested look on his face. Kooh glanced back to Victor with a thoughtful look, her eyes darting back to the third player as if to signal her plan to the brunette.

With a couple of smooth strides, Kooh placed herself directly behind the black-haired man's right shoulder, leaning to look over his shoulder and recognize the familiar request in his hands. The blonde turned her head to face him, disregarding any sense of personal space. "Hmm? You know this one?" She asked with a sweet smile. "Hey, why don't you help us?" She put on a persuasive tone.

Helios nearly jumped when he noticed the blonde looking over his shoulder. She did the one thing he hoped she wouldn't do; Ask him to accompany her on the quest. He wanted to say that he was busy and had other plans, however he hated turning down another player's request. Of course, the tone of her voice wasn't in his favor either. "Well... I don't have anything else to do. Sure." The dark-haired man smiled, turning to face the woman. "I'm Helios. Nice to meet you both." He said, introducing himself.

Breaking the Unbreakable. He recalled the last time he had accepted that quest. Helios had been lucky enough to meet Manta Gaul and receive help from her. It didn't seem right to let the two players standing with the noirette do it alone. "When do we leave?"

Victor noticed the girl had moved onto invite a third disinterested looking player standing there. That didn't work too well for him, but he wasn't going to make his intentions too plain by asking him to leave. At the same time he wasn't going to pass up a chance to get closer to some girls around here, he missed that bit from what he had in real life and the boy had been so focused on learning how to survive in the game, that he'd probably forgotten all about charm. He had picked up another pair of hand wraps for a very precise purpose. His plan was to take another along and offer them a slight leg up, just the kind that he had, so that they could finish up more efficiently. Of course that's not how he would couch it when offering. "Umm hey, wait a second." he said, opening up his inventory.

He had heard that the combat that they were to face, was to be fought weaponless, Victor never went into something unprepared... The second pair was now to go to either the other boy or to the girl. While he would favor the boy for the purpose, especially in real life, simply because males usually had more strength... There was a high chance that the game didn't take that into account while assigning statistics... So it probably wouldn't matter and he'd hopefully get some attention from the girl. So gently, he nudged the girl and said "Hey, before we get a move on, I thought you should have these, I've heard they'll help with the task ahead, its unarmed combat of some sort, wouldn't be nice for you to injure your delicate wrists." He said with a seemingly genuine smile, but thinly veiled flirtations. "Yeah we can get going now." He said to the dark haired boy.

The black-haired man casually accepted her request, causing a wide grin to spread across Kooh's face in return. "Hey, thanks! I'm Kooh." She repeated her name for the new member of their party. Taking a step back, the blonde slipped her hands in her pockets and flickered her attention back to the brunette, Victor. For a moment she got the impression that he wasn't happy with an additional party member, but Kooh mentally shrugged it off. He hadn't protested, and she was sure having more than one other player to help her would be in her best interest.

The man offered her what looked like an item, and she tilted her head curiously before accepting it. He gave her some sweet words along with it, and smile to mirror his own curled the corners of her lips upwards. "Oh, really? Thank you, I'm sure these will help a lot!" Truthfully, the girl had no idea what this quest was going to be like, what she had to do to complete it, or even what the item she had been traded was supposed to do. They looked like a pair of gloves of some sort, so she assumed it was some piece of armor or other equipment.

With Helios' question and Victor's response, she addressed the both of them now. "Yeah, I'm ready to go. You already know the exact place it's at, right?" She asked Helios with an innocent smile, hoping for him to lead the way without much convincing on her part.

The dark-haired man watched the two players interact. The brown-haired man clearly didn't want Kooh to talk with Helios. Of course, he didn't really care whether he was included in their conversations or not. That's not what he was there for. His job was to help the party finish the quest, and then he'd leave them be. It was likely they wouldn't speak again in the future anyway. The brunette in the group, Helios thought he said his name was Victor, handed the blonde a pair of gloves. That will definitely make this go quicker. Perfect. The man didn't have any gauntlets, hand wraps, or any other sort of martial arts equipment, so he didn't do a lot of damage with his fists.

"Yeah, I know where we're going. I guess I'll lead the way, assuming you two don't know where the boulder is." He chuckled, sliding his hands into the pockets of his pants. From what he could tell, the woman seemed fairly nice. Helios wasn't sure he'd get along well with Victor, however. Already, he could see what the man's real intentions for joining the party were.

The girl and he stood their mirroring smiles after she accepted the gloves he had lent, things were all good till she turned to the other guy, looking towards him for guidance. Well, Vic couldn't disagree with the fact that it would be nice to have someone who had already engaged the in the same combat and completed the quest before. This Helios guy was probably a better person too, for accompanying them despite having already earned his quest rewards. As they neared the quest location, Vic couldn't believe what he had just set his eyes on. There was a large boulder sitting in the middle of an empty field. The boy wanted a closer look and so he went towards it in a smooth motion. The object didn't move and looked rather... dead. He raised his eye quizzically, it had a health bar too. Luke had gathered that this was the unarmed combat, the task was most likely to destroy this large rock... He would have asked the boy for more information, but the thing looked safe for a test punch. A hairline crack split into the boulder, but it was far from breaking. "This is one tough thing. Should be fun. Have a go." He said angling his chin towards the girl. "I would've said ladies first, but I wanted to make sure there wasn't going to be any fun business." He said in a courteous manner.

Kooh followed after the men with a spring in her step, waiting patiently until they'd reached their destination. "Hm?" She mumbled, spotting the boulder that was to be their opponent out in the open. Victor wasted no time in taking the lead and beginning the 'combat' with the inanimate object, striking it to chip away at its health.

The girl frowned as she equipped the gloves she'd been given, but gave a mental shrug as the brunette declared her turn. 'Again with the sweet words.' She thought, watching Victor's face as she returned a smile to him. "Got it!" She nodded, following his lead to approach the object. She curled her right hand into a fist, steadied her footing, and struck the object dead-center. A light tingling feeling danced over her fingers, but the girl repressed a look of discomfort, instead spotting the boulder's health drop slightly again. Using that to distract her, Kooh turned and smiled with confidence. "Guess we just keep on doing that." She said simply, nodding to Helios and stepping back to signal his turn.

"Yeah, it's a pretty simple quest to finish. It's time consuming, though. I should have brought gloves like you two. I won't be of much use without them." he responded with a chuckle. The two players who had hit the rock before Helios managed to reduce it's health a fair bit. They dealt a lot more than the dark-haired swordsman would be able to do with his fists alone. A sigh escaped his mouth as he threw a punch at the rock. As he thought, not even a dent was left in the boulder. Without speaking, he stepped back to let Victor have a second turn.

Victor resisted the urge to make a snide remark and settled for a veiled smirk. He hoped that the guy who seemed to have more Intel about quest, would still not do more damage them Victor had. Luckily that was the case. However just to up the ante he planted his feet in the ground firmly. He directed a slightly less smug version of his smirk to the girl. "You did so well! But I'm not surprised." He lied, he knew it was mostly the gloves that helped her do that and he would indeed be very very surprised if a delicate little girl like her could pull of anything remotely closed in real life. Of course, he had learned very early in life that voicing such opinions never helped. Most girls enjoyed a good compliment or two. "You look like you could do anything you tried well." He finished and then squared his shoulders. The boy attacked the mid section of the rock as well, the thin crack was more visible, it was perhaps where the integrity of the virtual material was the weakest. The boy swung at the rock, hard. The kind of punch that would have drawn blood in real life. But that was the point of being in a game like this, lack of extreme pain was the game's  biggest advantage.

Kooh resisted a smirk spreading across her lips, settling for a friendly smile at Victor's continued compliments. 'He sure is trying to rub me the right way...' Her thoughts mused, curious if the boy was just trying for a "ladies' man" persona, or if he had any kind of motive. If the latree was true, she wasn't sure what he possibly had to gain from this. The blonde wasn't planning on sticking around long after she was done here, so she hoped he wasn't planning on trying to rope her into a debt or something.

The girl took her turn after the brunette, stepping up to their inanimate opponent as she released another punch into it. Despite what she thought were the same motions as before, the attack seemed completely ineffective. Kooh scowled only for a moment, hiding her confusion as she let out a small sigh, scanning the boulder up and down with a couple of backward steps to let their rotation continue.

The brunette player was starting to annoy Helios. If he was only occasionally flirting with the blonde, he wouldn't have minded. However, it felt like every word the escaped the man's mouth was directed towards the girl. The curved-sword user couldn't wait until the quest was finished. The girl attempted to attack the object once again, however she unfortunately wasn't able to land a successful blow.

Helios stepped forward, smiling quietly at the woman as he passed her. He let out a strong punch into the boulder, but since he had nothing to amplify his damage, it wasn't impacted much.

Victor resisted the urge to let his smirk be tainted with condescension and replaced it with sincerity instead. He let the boy have his turn too. "Hm." He semi-grunted at the dark haired player, with small nod in his direction. It wasn't exactly an appreciating nod, but he couldn't ignore his presence completely. The brown haired boy was sure that wouldn't make a great impression on the girl either. Helios hadn't inflicted too much damage on the boulder, so he turned towards Kooh again, "Try it like this..." he said, angling himself in a manner that allowed for the full momentum of his body to be transferred into his punch. He wasn't sure if the game took such things into account when it calculated the damage a person inflicted onto another mob, person or item in this case. "I wonder is it just this block or can other things around be destroyed too." He said, punctuating his statement with his blow and then nudging the girl in a friendly manner to have another go.

Kooh gave each of the other players a few small claps as they each finished their turns, both men hitting the mark as they were slowly but surely bringing the boulder's hit points lower. "Hmm, I can see how this can get to be a bit tedious." The girl mumbled more to herself than anything, placing her hands on her hips before she was up again. "So is it really worth it? The skill that you get from doing this?" She glanced between the two, but seemed to direct her question towards Helios. "You've done this before, right?" She added on, assuming by his vague familiarity with the quest details and location that he'd completed it in the past.

Itzal leaped from tree to tree across the second floor scanning for anything new.  He had grandmastered his searching skill at last and he wanted to get the detect mod before moving on to the lockpicking mod.  That way he could find and unlock treasure chests and get bonus loot along the way.  He already had gatherer so hopefully he'd collect enough materials to sell to other players for col.  As he traveled he spotted a player beside a huge rock, and two figures leaving the area.  Curiosity arose and he made his way over, leaping off of the tree and rolling on the ground before standing up and walking over.  When he spotted the player he grinned and waved.  "Kooh!  Hey!  It's been a while!  How've you been?"  Then he spotted the rock up close and knew exactly what it was.  He turned to see the two players walking away.  "You uh...  You need some help with that?  I can assist if you'd like."

A pout came over Kooh's features as the two men disappeared from view. With their general disinterest in the task, she had to seriously question whether their reasons for leaving her on her own were genuine or not. The blonde placed her hands on her hips, shifting her weight as she surveyed the half-"dead" rock sitting intimidatingly before her. She had just let out a huff of air when a familiar voice coming from beside her. "Hm?" She mused before a grin broke out on her face. "Hey!" She gave a small wave, inviting the player over as she turned her attention back to the quest objective. "I'd be here all day if I have to break this thing by myself. You don't mind helping?" Kooh gave Itzal a sweet smile before taking a few steps back towards the rock, delivering a solid blow to the cracks growing wider at its center. 'No sense wasting even more time.'

Itzal smiled when she said she'd be glad for his help.  He nodded and opened his inventory and equipped Oblivion ring.  As he walked over beside Kooh he took off his trench coat and hung it on a nearby rock.  When he was beside Kooh he lifted his hands into position the way a real martial artist would.  "So Kooh it's been a while.  How've you been?"  With that he watched Kooh punch the rock then scanned the rock for any weak areas He was about to give up when he thought he spotted some dust hanging off of a certain area.  He grinned and swung with all his strength, striking the area.  When he removed his hand he noted that the crack he made was extremely tiny.  Still, this rock had fifty health and they had just taken out four with their bare hands.  "Also, do you have any plans you want to get accomplished?"  Itzal knew a few players who wanted nothing to do with combat, but were able to do things in other ways.

"Plans?" Kooh cocked her head to the side at his question. "Ehh, not in particular." She said with a small frown and a laid-back shrug. The girl waited for Itzal's attack before attempting another strike of her own. As she took a swing, her thoughts must have clouded her for a moment and she wasn't able to get any damage in this time. "I just take things here one day at a time, y'know?" She replied, noting the massive gap in their levels. Ever since she met Itzal, though the two have only been in sparse contact since then, she'd never seen one advance in this game so quickly. The boy seemed to have a drive or determination that she clearly lacked, but she wrote it off as him having some personal reasons to wanting to get stronger. She wouldn't be surprised if a lot of the frontliners would look at a player like her and scoff with disdain--someone so unwilling to aid in the common goal of escaping the game. Kooh just gave a mental sigh, pushing the thoughts aside as she brought her attention back to the player beside her. "I haven't been up to much though, really." She answered again lamely.
