[Sp-F1] Tactics and MATs <Itzal> [Quest: Feeding the Enemy]

Recommended Posts

Itzal walked underneath the gentle gaze of the moon once again.  It was becoming more and more recent, his training nights.  Partly because his verbana bracelet reminded him he needed to get home, but partly because he wanted to catch up with Verus in level.  He couldn't do that by sitting around.  With his new sword Retributor, things should be easier than ever.  On the other hand, it still dealt minimal damage most of the time.  It's true strength was in it's bleeding effect.  If he wanted to deal any more damage he needed to be a journeyman in one-handed skill.  He did however want to get battle healing, search and sneak skills.  He realized that it would probably be best if he started with upgrading his sword skill first, then go for battle healing.  He sighed as he realized he had a ways to go.  He thought of something else too.  He couldn't keep renting rooms for the rest of his life.  He needed a solid place to stay.  He needed a home.

"Well," he said to himself, "If I'm going to do that I'm gonna need WAY more col than I have.  Better get cracking."  With that, Itzal made his way to the cliffs.

Itzal drew Retributor as he walked.  The extra weight was greatly appreciated.  He tossed the sword from his right hand to his left and swung a few basic swings.  Good.  He had mastered the ability not long ago to use both of his arms equally.  He had figured that if his right arm was injured or disabled, he could use his left hand.  He later found out that if a single limb is disabled or paralyzed, the rest of the body would be too.  However it was a useful talent he thought.  Unfortunately duel wielding didn't exist.  Itzal hated this but he could also say he missed magic.  He loved options.  Options opened up more strategies and tactics, more possibilities.  Itzal loved these things.  He loved thinking of tactics, styles and strategies.  They fascinated him.  He sighed and sheathed his sword.  No help complaining about it now.  He couldn't change it.  Literally.

Nobody realized this yet, but he always scanned his surroundings, whether for materials or players.  It didn't help that he had no search and detect skill though.  Perhaps he should invest in it next.  Just then he spotted something.  He saw a small rabbit.  Not only did he hate rabbits for eating the plants in his mother's garden, but he also hated them just because.  They were ugly to his eye and anytime something bad happened to him he could have sworn he saw a bunny watching him.  Seeing one in the game brought up unfriendly memories.  But this time was different.  He drew Retributor and stabbed the mob quicker than it could run.  He heard a cry, then the sparks.  In return he obtained rabbit meat.  He grinned.

"Win win."

Itzal scanned the surrounding area for any more of those vermin but never spotted another one.  If they were wise, they'd stay away from him.  He rose to his feet and continued walking.  He kept his eyes peeled for anything he could use but couldn't find anything.  What he did find was roots from eaten herbs, empty berry bushes, and other signs of the animal's carnage.  This little animal was keeping players from finding anything for them to use.  Add that to the list of reasons to hate rabbits.  He thought to himself grinned.  He should have a list of bunnies he's killed in the game.  He always liked to mess with his sister, and it was easy since she loved bunnies........  His grin turned into a frown.  If he told her he killed bunnies she wouldn't be happy.  She'd forgive him if he made it out of course but she'd still be upset.  He looked at the rabbit meat and sighed with frustration.  He couldn't kill another bunny.  So they'd better stay away from him.

He walked a little further and found the cliffs.  He saw a few wolves spread out enough for him to pick them off one by one.  He drew Retributor.

"Let's get the grinding over with."

The sound of Retributor being drawn alerted one of the wolves to his presence, causing it to growl.  He made a taunting gesture that made the wolf charge at him in rage.  Itzal however stayed completely still.  He didn't want to be fighting the wolf just to have two others join the fray, so he'd just let the wolf come over to him and farther from it's pack.  The wolf ran swiftly with it's teeth bared but then something changed.  The wolf slowed down, and soon stopped, a good few feet from Itzal and growled.  Itzal studied the wolf and realized that it was suspicious.  This player taunted it, then stood completely still as the wolf charged.  He obviously had something up his sleeve.  As a matter of fact, Itzal had intended on landing a bleeding effect on the wolf.  Now that it wasn't charging recklessly the chances of bleeding it were slim.  He sighed.  This wasn't going to be an easy fight.

Itzal raised his sword a little just before charging the wolf.  The wolf noticed the movement and jumped to the side, pushed off from the ground and sank it's teeth and claws into Itzal's side.  Itzal grimaced from the pain the wolf caused him, and fell on the ground from the force of the strike.  Itzal made a mental note to never make any sign that he was going to attack again.  Or possibly he could use it to his advantage.  For now however he pushed the thought aside and swung his sword as the wolf made another leap. The damage caused the wolf to flinch and fell in behind him.  They both had felt pain.  And they both wanted payback.

Itzal put his hand on the wound and squeezed.  He was actually surprised that the trick worked in the game as the real world.  The pain subsided somewhat and he focused on the wolf.  He did minimal damage on the thing and it was already getting up.  It growled at him but then seemed to hesitate when it saw the wound.  Itzal took the opportunity to charge and surprise it.  It wasn't surprised however and jumped backward to avoid the swing.  It probably planned on counter attacking, but when it jumped backward it almost fell down the cliff.  It struggled to regain it's balance, then ran along the side until Itzal and the wolf were once again circling each other.

This time the wolf charged.  Itzal prepared his sword art, the blade covered in a dark red glow.  When the wolf was close enough, Itzal jumped to his right and used snake bite, stabbing the sword at least three times into the wolf's side.  The wolf yelped and fell to the ground.  Itzal knew that it'd be pissed now that it's hp was low.  He had to be careful.  He felt a little drained but satisfied with his effort.  He managed to deal more than minimal damage this time and he was fairly proud.  As the wolf rose to it's feet, Itzal returned to his ready stance.

Itzal and the wolf began to circle once again.  This wolf was cautious he realized, and wouldn't do anything reckless again.  He faked moving to the right but the wolf never fell for it.  Itzal noticed a fairly large rock by the wolf, so he continued to circle until the rock was near him.  When it was near his foot he snatched it with lightning speed just as the wolf charged him.  Itzal threw the rock and hit the wolf with it, causing it to stumble.  As it rolled past Itzal, he swung his sword at it, causing minimal damage.  He jumped back creating space between them again.  The rock trick wouldn't work again and he knew it.

This time the wolf charged right after.  Itzal dodged the attack but the wolf didn't stop.  Pretty soon Itzal was using Retributor to parry the wolf's claws as well as narrowly evade it.  Itzal noticed that the wolf was going to try a power attack which would be slower and tried to jab his blade at the wolf before, but tripped over a stone that was fastened to the earth.  The wolf tried changing directions in the middle of it's attack when he fell and resulted in both of them on the ground panting for breath.  The two of them looked at one another before scrambling to their feet again.

The wolf made one final desperate attack and clawed at Itzal's sword arm.  He had swung his blade at the same time and barely missed.  The wolf's claw made it's mark and trailed up his forearm causing Itzal to grimace.  His fingers numbed a bit and he felt Retributor slip from his hand.  Instinctively, he grabbed it with his left hand and activated his sword art, swinging at the wolf as it passed him.  He used snake bite again, striking around three times up the wolf's spine.  As it howled in pain, Itzal fell on the ground from his lack of balance.  He heard the familiar explosion of sparks and sighed in relief that it was over.  He was startled when he heard a menu sound and saw that the wolf had dropped 50 col.  Surprised but grateful, he collected it and stood to his feet.

The rest of the pack was watching.  He assumed they started to watch after the wolf and him had a close encounter with the cliff.  He made one step towards them and they in turn took a step back.  He realized that they wouldn't fight alone so he'd have to find another group that was unfamiliar with him.  He shrugged.  Maybe he'd find a few materials along the way.

Itzal was pleased he had found some more col.  He would definitely be saving it towards a house in the future.  He sheathed his sword and walked along the road.  He didn't know where he was going, nor did he care.  He'd just keep an eye out for materials wherever he went.  His mind went back to the fight.  He had never seen a mob act cautiously as that one did in the beginning of the fight.  He had to be careful how he dealt with mobs in the future.  He remembered his right arm and noticed that he could feel his fingers once his hp regenerated and the damage mark was gone.  Still.  He had swung his sword at the wolf and missed, yet he struck at it almost instantly afterwards by switching to his already outstretched left hand.  It made him wonder.  What if he turned that into a technique?  To swing the sword, then switch to the other hand which was already in motion, therefore striking faster than most players could.  The effect could be either devastating if the opponent was caught off guard, or keep the opponent from striking back if dealt properly.

Itzal spotted a forest up ahead and grinned.  He loved forests.  And he especially loved them at night.  As he approached, he saw streams of moonlight flowing down to the forest floor, illuminating spots on the ground.  The trees were fairly tall and close together.  Perfect for climbing.  Itzal scaled the tree quickly and leapt from one branch to another.  Once he got a feel for it, he started jumping across branches without stopping.  Once he reached a good spot he scanned the forest below.  No mobs or players anywhere so he climbed down and started his search for materials.

Itzal walked around peeking under every solitary bush, rock and vine but couldn't find anything.  He shook his head in frustration.  He paused for a moment and thought that perhaps if he found a suitable mob, Adhae might be able to make him a meat pie.  He grinned at the thought and doubled his search.  He would find ingredients if it were the last thing he did.  His search however ended in vain.  He though he was close to finding something but it was all for naught.  In the end he returned to the road and planned on heading out of the forest in search of a suitable mob.

Itzal decided to try one last time before leaving the forest.  He scanned the sides but couldn't find anything.  Maybe he should get something that enhances his looting skills.  He delved into the forest once again but couldn't find anything.  Without Verus to help he wasn't going to get anywhere with this.  He needed help if he wanted to collect materials.  Itzal was getting frustrated and gave up.  Disappointed he walked back onto the road and stopped.  A wolf was waiting for him there.  It growled and Itzal drew Retributor, very annoyed at having to fight another mob at this time.

The wolf rose to it's feet but didn't charge and neither did Itzal.  He noticed the same form of caution he saw in the wolf he fought not long ago.  He realized that this wolf must have followed him from the cliffs.  Itzal moved his sword from right to left, seeing the wolf follow the blade.  That's a mistake most people made.  Many will follow the weapon rather than the person where it should be vice versa.  Itzal knew however that he'd have to let the wolf make the first move.  So he swung the blade in a way that forced the wolf to break it's stare.  It looked at him with one thought:  Revenge.

The wolf began to walk slowly towards him, it's torso low to the ground and ready for literally anything.  Itzal didn't like how intelligent it seemed and backed up.  Then he had an idea.  There was a tree right behind him.  If he turned the wolf would charge and all he'd have to do was backflip off the tree.  He took to it and dashed behind, hearing the wolf bark viciously at him.  He jumped, placed the first foot, second foot.  And that's where he messed up.  He placed his foot a little too close to the right, causing it to slip.  Instead of leaping off the tree and landing behind the wolf like he intended, he fell straight down onto the wolf who ran head first into the tree.

The wolf stirred underneath Itzal, and he rolled off.  The wolf and Itzal took a moment to get to their feet before they charged again.  This time the wolf made sure there wasn't any immediate tree behind Itzal, and Itzal didn't take any chances.  The wolf made a leap and Itzal used his sword to push it away.
