[PP-F1] The dragon's soul <Itzal and Kasier> <<Feeding the enemy>>

Recommended Posts

Itzal was about to charge again when he felt Kasier jolt.  He turned around and was startled to see her back up and look at her hands with shock.  He was about to ask her what she needed when he felt two strikes on his back.  When he turned around the warg's tail knocked him aside.  When he stood up he glanced at Kasier and knew something wasn't right.

"Kasier are you alright?" he called.  Then the warg stepped in between them.  He glanced at Kasier and narrowed it's eyes, then smiled evilly to Itzal and he got the message.  His face darkened and Ulises' voice mixed with Ital's deepening his voice.  "Oh no you don't monster."  He gripped Retributor and shot off like lightning at the monster.  The warg thought it had him and swung it's huge claw at him, but he pushed off of the paw and slashed at the monsters face.  He landed on the ground and dashed back and forth around, under and over the monster, hacking and slashing at it from every direction.  "I will not!"  Slash across the arm.  "Let my friends!"  A stab at it's belly.  "Be in pain!"  Cut the side.  "AS LONG AS I LIVE!!!"  A stab in the face.

It was astonishing. It was brilliant. Kasier had no idea how to describe the magic that was in front of her at the moment. It was a completely different person in front of her. Sure, Itzal had had his moments and had managed to strike mobs and deal damage but never, ever had Kasier seen him fight like this. Perhaps there was something hidden deep inside Itzal as well. Maybe she had overlooked this part about him. Now, as Kasier watched the man, she could only watch in astonishment as he ducked and struck before stabbing the mobs, avoiding attacks after attacks and landing attacks of his own.

This wasn’t Itzal. This was someone else. Itzal would never fight like this, he didn’t have it in him but now Kasier was starting to think otherwise. If he always fought like this, then he is incredible, absolutely amazing but she knew that he didn’t always fight like this. And the wonders, the amazement that she suddenly had about the man who had changed in combat only made her want to discover more, more about the man’s abilities. She had found herself something interesting again in this game. And when something interesting comes across her red, amber eyes, she doesn’t let the potential escape.

However, as soon as she snapped back in reality, she pretended that Itzal was just the same as he had been. With a smile, she walked up to the man and placed her hands gently on his shoulder before activating the first aid skill and healing him of the health that he had lost. With her healing, all the efforts from the Warg and its minions had suddenly disappeared all because of her. As soon as she had finished the healing, she retreated from the battlefield in order to avoid the Warg’s wrath… And… Itzal’s as well.

Itzal registered the hand on his shoulder and mentally tugged at Ulises, who was currently wielding the sword.  Ulises turned his attention and his body relaxed as he saw she was ok.  Now that it was confirmed that she was fine after all, Ulises leeched out his anger till it was no more.  Itzal had been helping Ulises learn how to do that, to remove his anger on the battlefield.  It was a strong ally, but it should not be used in this manner.  However Ulises was always angry to some degree and with just a small amount he could channel into his sword.  Too much and his mind was clouded and could easily harm those he didn't want to hurt.  Ulises however didn't need anger to make him stronger now.  After practice sessions in their mind, his skills have finally reached their height.

Ulises charged the monster with the same strength speed and energy as before, only without the excess hatred.  The warg roared in hatred as it's health dropped into the red section.  This caused it's followers to look at their leader in disbelief, shocked to see their supposed immortal leader so close to death.  The drop in focus distracted them from their own battle and they were cut down quickly.  Some of the wolves on the left side saw this happening and had a change of heart, aiding the opposing side in the hopes of survival.  What they didn't know was that although they would live they would not be trusted again, and would be guarded under a watchful eye as well as claws and teeth.

The warg continued it's previous attacks only with triple the speed and strength.  Most people or players would be helpless from this attack, being hacked, slashed, bit, knocked around, beat down, shoved, etc. every two seconds.  Ulises however wasn't ordinary and evaded each attack with pure skill, returning with his own counter attacks.  The two wolves finally had it and charged in, hoping to kill Ulises along with their leader, whose health was now lower than their own.  Ulises saw his chance and charged forward, preparing rage spike as he did so.  While he charged Felix scanned the enemies and found the path to charge, evade, strike, and then escape.  He handed the info to Ulises who applied it instantly, charging, dodging the two wolves, then used rage spike in an almost u shape pattern, starting behind his back where the wolves were and ending by slashing up the warg's throat.  The bleeding effect took place and all three cried out in pain.  It was almost over.

Kasier watched as Itzal remained in rage. He cut forwards, dodged attacks, cut forwards in the same pattern while all Kasier had to offer was her presence, which wasn’t really that, much in all honesty though. But she was glad that she was here because Itzal was showing her something that he had never shown her. As far as she knew, the boy probably never has shown this side of him to anyone. As soon as he is angered, the entire atmosphere seemed to have changed entirely. Some may consider such a transformation to be a bad thing but one must look at the positives. During this form, Itzal was invincible… And it made Kasier want to anger him on purpose to see what he was like. But that would come in a later date.

For now, though, she would simply wait and watched as the combat unfolded in front of her own eyes. The battle was looking more and more intense but it was clear who was winning. There was no point of her healing and there were no point of her attacking either so she would simply look around or maybe even grab a few materials in the mean time. To her dismay, though, she was unable to do so.

OOC- .....  LD not high enough.  Dang it

Ulises allowed the monsters one last strike on him as it would probably be their last.  He surveyed the battleground and saw that the wolves had finished the fight.  All that was left was the feeble boss and his minions.  As they scratched him equally the sound of the bleeding effect echoed and each monster flinched.  The two wolves panted but the warg was on the ground breathing heavily.  It was literally hanging on one health point and would die at any moment.  Still, even here in death it stared at Ulises/Itzal with hatred.  It hated players, it hated fighters and it hated, hated HATED this one player who ruined everything!  Even in defeat it was hateful.  As Ulises observed this fight he gestured to the crowd of wolves.

"THIS IS WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE TO BE CONSUMED WITH HATE!"  he called loud enough for them all to hear.  "SOON HE WILL PERISH, AND BE NO MORE!  AND HE WILL BE LEFT WITH NOTHING."  he sighed.  "Yes, anger gives you brief strength, but it can consume you, corrupt you, and turn you into what you hate above all else.  We should all learn from this."  He returned his gaze to the three monsters.  The warg still lay there but the two wolves wanted one last go at him.  Ulises withdrew and Itzal calmly stepped in.

The battle was over. Even a blind man can see that it was over. The battle’s rage had been toned down and now; there was almost silence as the winner of the civil war had finally been revealed. It was destined really, there had been only one outcome of the battle and the fact that Itzal had changed suddenly had made the battle progress even faster. But he had revealed something extraordinary to her and this only made her more interested in Itzal and his other side. She hoped to discover more about him and perhaps find out who he really is.

It was then that Kasier heard the man’s speech about anger. However, it seemed that the message was more directed towards her than anyone considering the fact that the wolves were only NPCs and they had no way to decipher human speech. Kasier’s amber red eyes observed the surrounding area upon hearing the wails of the wolves that had lost the duel. Anger, anger was the driving force of humanity. In history, anger had driven many successes; it was what keeps man going. Whether it was anger against god, against other man, it was what success requires. Without anger, one simply doesn’t have a certain desire to do something. Of course, this is only when anger is managed correctly.

She had realized that Itzal and her were very similar. They both strived to help players who needed it. However, they go about it in a different method. Itzal helped other players regardless and thinks in a very logical way. Well, Kasier was unpredictable. She helps players through indirect ways and many times, other people will not support her methods. Kasier is direct and hates the general way of people who does things. Although her methods are questionable at times, she will never harm another player and in the end, her helping hand always turns out to be good.

With a sigh, Kasier walked up to the man and healed him once more in silence. She wandered whether the man was still in a form that was completely different from him. “We need to talk.” She said simply and walked back so the wolves can finally die.

The wolves finally died.  It was over.  The wolves who had switched sides at the last moment howled for their loss while the other wolves were already making their way over.  The elder wolf approached Itzal and nodded, panting heavily.  It then turned to three other elderly wolves and they seemed to discuss something for a moment.  When they finished they made a loud bark and a young wolf came over.  Itzal was assuming they were choosing the next leader.  He was suddenly surprised to see that the wolf was actually a very young warg.  It did not have the fierceness of the monster he had just slain, but rather it seemed naive, confused.  The wolves made a few grunts and the warg looked at itzal with renewed interest.  As they interacted with one another, occasionally giving Itzal glances, he realized that they intended for the warg to spend some time with him.  Shocked that such a thing would happen in this world, especially after the destruction he had caused he nodded and stroked the warg.

"Yeah sure I can care for it a bit."  He looked at one of the elder wolves.  "I'm looking for a purple dragon.  Have you seen her?"  One of the wolves rolled it's eyes, obviously knowing exactly who he was talking about.  The wolf who seemed the oldest nodded toward the other side of the cavern.  Itzal nodded and rose.  He felt Kasier heal him one last time before she told him that they needed to talk.  Itzal knew what she was talking about.  As they made their way over to the tunnel, the little warg following close behind, Itzal said

"Look I'm sorry about that.  I don't like seeing others hurt, let alone my friends ok?  That's all there is to it."  He really didn't want Ulises' secret told to every soul in this world.  He usually didn't care about name calling but it would make it that much harder after all.

Kasier watched as the man began to communicate with the wolves. Kasier thought of this as a foolish action but to her surprise, Itzal had actually managed to somehow obtain information from the wolves. Sure, the wolves were player friendly, which she thought were impossible before this day. Now, she knew that it was possible to communicate indirectly with certain mobs as well. This had been a day of discoveries. She had found lots and lots of things regarding this game that she had not known before. She was actually relieved that she had come on this adventure with Itzal. Not only had she discovered more about this game, she had discovered more about Itzal and who he can be. Maybe he wasn’t as weak as a player after all… Maybe niceness doesn’t equal strength in the end.

This was a productive day after all.

Kasier nodded. It was clear that Itzal didn’t want to share what had happened to her and she sort of understood. However, as guild mates, they really shouldn’t hide such things from each other. Plus, Kasier was interested and the word was such an understatement. Her eyebrows went up in the darkness but she didn’t ask any further. The fact that the man wanted to hide the information made Kasier only more curious. However, she would respect the man’s decisions.

“Very well. Just know that I’m all ears if you want to tell me things that are interesting.” Kasier said, shrugging and motioning for the man to walk into the depths of the cave. “Plus, there’s nothing to be sorry about. I found that battle extremely entertaining.”

Itzal listened to Kasier and was glad she didn't press for answers.  He also had to admit that he enjoyed that battle, particularly when the wolves worked with him.  But there was one issue with that battle.  Ulises.  We can't just lose control every time a player gets hurt, or seems to get hurt.  That can't be helped.  We can only react if they're near death and I have a feeling they'll let us know ok?  Ulises was silent for a moment before replying.  Yeah.  Yeah I agree entirely.  Sorry about that.  They both sighed.  We've got a long way to go don't we?  Yes, but at least we've started on the right path.  Now we just need to follow it.  With that over with he glanced at the young warg who looked at Itzal with interest.  Itzal smiled.

"You can lead us to the purple dragon right?"  While the warg wondered why these players wanted to see that annoying little pest, it nodded and began trotting down the path ahead.  Itzal pulled a glowing crystal from his inventory and set the brightness to max, illuminating the path completely.  As they walked a question formed in Itzal's mind but he decided not to tell her.  You realize we'll need to tell her eventually.  I know, but I'd rather her see you at your best, when you aren't a monster.  Ulises chuckled.  You mean you?  Yes.  To this Ulises was shocked but proud as well that Itzal had just said that Ulises was him.  They were separate, yet one.  Unity.  THAT was where true strength came from.  And unity comes from trust, which comes from friendship, which of course was another form of love.  Anger arises when something you love or cherish is in danger.  The only reason anger is strong at all is because it is, in a sense, a part of love.  They aren't opposites.  Hate and anger are opposites.  Love and lust are opposites.  But love and anger go hand in hand.  The difference between anger and hate is that anger is short term, while hate spreads like a weed of bitterness, growing until it's consumed you.  That's what he intended to teach Alisa when the time was right.

Kasier allowed her mind to wander as they made their way to the end of the cave. It seemed that Itzal was absorbed in thinking of his own as he decided that he’d just simply walk and progress along the cave. Of course, since Itzal was so absorbed in whatever he was thinking about, all Kasier could do was simply look at the shadow of the scout, observe his figure as she walked. The man appeared to be a lot more chilled now. He was no longer angry and the feeling that she got when he was in combat disappeared. Kasier still had no idea what happened back there but she figured that in the future, she would eventually find out. No secret can remain hidden from Kasier.

As she walked, she saw a red crystal near the side of the cave. With her amber red eyes staring straight ahead, she grabbed onto the crystal and tugged. Unfortunately, though, the red crystal simply won’t budge. She would then give up on the material gathering opportunity. She had plenty of materials at the moment so it would be fine for her to pass up on a few materials.

“So, you can talk to wolves?” She asked humorously while trying to make conversation

Itzal was brought back to reality as he heard Kasier.  He chuckled slightly.

"Eh.  After I met Velnia it became easier for me to tell what animals were thinking.  It's a bit hard sometimes though.  You have to look at every small detail.  What are they looking at?  Is it hate or confusion in their eyes?  His their body stiff?  Why did they gather?  I simply watched the older wolves gather and start talking to themselves and figured they were some sort of elder council.  When they called the young warg over I assumed they were handing the position of leadership to him."  He patted the warg's head between the ears and it began panting happily.  "When they talked to him while looking at me, and the way the warg looked at me curiously, I'm assuming they want him to learn something from me.  Perhaps this will keep him from turning into a tyrant like the last two did.  Either way it's a bit more company right?"  Itzal's hand followed the wall, not only memorizing the way they were going, but also scanning for materials.  When his hand bumped into a crystal he pulled quickly, and when nothing happened kept walking.

Kasier’s eyes carried on scanning the walls of the cave and through the darkness; it wasn’t an easy feat to do so. She knew that this quest would take a while but she had not realized exactly how bothersome this quest would turn out to be. She hadn’t expected to fight a lot of mobs in order to pass a wolf tribe and hence, carry on through the cave. Kasier shrugged as the man explained how he was able to communicate with NPC mobs. He had explained fairly well enough but she was still far from pleased with the answer.

Kasier’s black hair flew in the close cave as she carried on following the black-haired man in front of her. Her red amber eyes glowed in the darkness when she began to speak once more, “I can understand if you are able to tell what animals are saying to you but those are NPC mobs. I didn’t even know they had emotions.” Kasier said, looking around for a crystal and indeed, she had found one hanging loosely. She was sure that the man had just touched it but he seemed to have just let it stay on the wall. Kasier, however, would take the crystal and claim it as a material for her

(At this point, I don't know how many materials I have.)

Itzal listened to Kasier and sighed.  She looked at npcs like everyone else then huh?  "The way Kayaba programmed this world is amazing Kasier.  You know what AI are right?  Well Kayaba designed them each in the same way.  How do you think random quests come about?  He designed each npc with their own history, personality, and plans.  Sure, a lot of them are simply there to play as citizens, but I recently got caught up in an indirect war between companies on floor 1.  The game itself is an AI Kasier, and it works with all the AI to create stories.  When players interact the stories change.  It's honestly...  Ingenius.  When I get out of here I want to build something like this."  He looked at the warg and smiled.  "They think, they react.  That's how I see them."  Well said Felix.  Why thank you Ulises.  He scanned the area but he didn't spot anything.  Still, he already had several materials.

Kasier knew Itzal knows a lot about this game. It was a given really considering that he was higher leveled than her. However, she still didn’t understand it. No matter how great a video game developer can be, surely they are unable to develop backgrounds and characteristics for each of the billions of NPCs in this game. We are talking about five NPCs per shop and considering the numerous amount of shops, there are quite a bit of NPCs in this game. Of course, Kayaba was a genius so you never know but no matter what anyone says. They are still pixels. In fact, every single thing in this game is pixelated. Including the players.

Kasier sighed, deciding to lay off the topic and maybe discuss it later on if need be. For now, though, she would bring new discussion to the table. “So, uh. Have you decided when Mossino will be ready for our first guild mission? I’m looking forwards to working with the guild. We all are about the same level so we can develop team chemistry fairly easy. When we choose the guild mission, though. It had better be an exciting one. It’s good to practice emergency situations early on so we are prepared in case the worst happens.” Kasier said, letting her voice echo through the cave. It appeared that the cave had finally opened up a bit, allowing her to receive more oxygen in the black cave.

As she walked, she continued to scan the wall for any material that may be placed in her material inventory. However, this time, she was unable to do so. She had failed in receiving more materials but she didn’t really mind. For now, all she wanted to was move through the cave quickly, find the familiar, and get out

Itzal listened as Kasier actually asked him when he thought Alisa would be ready.  He smiled as he replied.

"Personally I'd like her to get her gear first, but overall she can come with us.  Until she gets her gear however she'll only be able to look for things with me.  Other than that just.  Talk.  That's why I wanted her to get some equipment.  Oh, yeah I said I would talk about myself didn't I?"  In all honesty he really didn't want to, but he did promise.  Kasier had pretty much spat all her information out, which made Itzal think that she was hiding something, which of course made him curious.  And despite all that's happened he always keeps his promises.  He decided to wait and see if she really did want that information.  If she did he'd let her in.  If otherwise, life goes on.  In the meantime he continued to scan the area in hopes that Velnia would appear.  As his hand felt the wall he felt no crystal.  He could still see clearly with the crystal he held in his left hand though.

Kasier watched Itzal’s movement in the darkness. He was moving with quite a good pace, good enough for Kasier to be able to follow without any issues but also fast enough for them to be able to make progress quickly down the cave. During this time, Kasier was completely clueless. She had no idea how long this cave would be. The place could be gigantic for all they know and perhaps it would take a long time for them to complete this quest. She wouldn’t mind though. Maybe she’ll become tired but in the end, it will be worth it. Velnia was too cute to pass on and she could get to know more about Itzal.

“Talk about yourself? I guess. But if you don’t want to, I don’t want to force you to say anything that you don’t want to say. If you don’t want to tell me something… then you don’t have to. But, I guess it would be pretty cool to know more about you.” Kasier said

Itzal sighed as he thought of where to start.  Nothing would really make sense unless he started from the beginning but he might as well start with his heritage.

"First off, I was born an American but I live in Japan with my adopted parent's and sister Aimi.  As I grew up I found that I was amazing with math, technology, computers, logic and reasoning, etc.  I knew that I was destined for something technology based.  Unfortunately, this plus having been without my original parent's made me a strong target to bullies.  Not just at my school, but nearby ones as well.  It soon reached the point where I couldn't go anywhere without being spotted.  That's how I got so good at running and climbing.  After that I shut myself in my room and got bored so I started playing video games.  I realized it was everything I was ever good at.  I admit I may have hacked one or two games but I ditched that once I learned that I didn't need them whatsoever.  Strategy, tactics, numbers, weaknesses and resistance.  It was everything I ever wanted.  Unfortunately I didn't have any online players besides one person.  He played the beta version for SAO but he went on vacation with his family, no electronics, during the release.  Lucky for him I guess.  I don't think he could have survived.  Hey, would you like to try on my twilight cloak?"  He asked as he switched to Niger Natio, pulled down the hood and mouthpiece and held the cloak out for her.  He then stopped and whistled.

They were standing at the entrance of a cavern.  He thought the cavern on floor 2 was big, but this took the cake.  Almost the size of the valley up above, hundreds of rocky hills, cliffs and tiny ravines, as well as thousands of huge glowing crystal clusters.  This would be the perfect place to find Velnia.  She always loved the crystals.

Kasier jerked to attention when Itzal suddenly began to tell his life story. He had talked about his past, how he had gotten into gaming and how talented he was at developing tactics and strategies in RPG games. Kasier wished that she could say the same about herself but she couldn’t. Her life had been far from Itzal’s life. In fact, it was almost complete opposites. The ‘now’ Itzal was far from who he was in the past. There was no way that Kasier would be able to tell that the man was a weeb just from looking at him now. He was confident and talked quite a bit.

Since the man had told her about his past, it was only fitting that she too told of her tale. “Well, I guess I’ll tell you a bit of my past. You might not be that interested but we could use some time passing,” she began, “I was born in New York City and my grades in school had always been pretty good. My parent’s genes were pretty weird and occasionally, I would get looks from strangers because of my red eyes. As a child, my goal had been to become a doctor to help others. I guess being a healer here kind of makes up for the fact that I was still in medical school when I entered the game. Guess I’m still a doctor. Just a doctor that heals pixels. Also, sure, why not. It's pretty chilly down here so I wouldn't mind trying it out.” She finished, putting on the cloak.

Once more, silence had found its way in between the two players and Kasier took the time to place her hand on the walls of the cave in search of crystals that she can simply pull out and claim as her own. This time, unlike last time, she was able to feel something jabbing at her and out comes the crystal which was soon placed into her inventory

As Itzal made his way down the now bright path he listened to Kasier as she talked about her own life.  Questions began to pipe up in his mind but he managed to sort them out.

"You want to be a doctor?  That's a good career.  Busy but a good one.  My career only helps entertain people and develop their skills.  You'll get to save people."  He tried to refrain from the next question and scanned the area for materials.  However, the slope down into the cavern was without anything.  Finally Ulises told him to spit it out.  "Sooo.  Can you tell me what America is like?  I've never actually researched it, let alone been there.  I'm curious about the nation I was born in."  In truth he was curious, but never let him think about it too much as he hated thinking about his past.  As he grew older however he had less of a problem recalling the event but had become less interested in his origins.  Now that curiosity was beginning to grow.

Kasier’s amber red eyes seemed to adjust in the darkness. Now, she saw everything clearly and immediately upon equipping the cloak, she had managed to find that looking at everything was a lot easier than it had been. She no longer found it that hard to scan her eyes around the cave and look through the darkness. In fact, she could even make out details, small details that she wouldn’t have noticed before putting on the cloak that Itzal had given her. With a smile, she continued walking. Perhaps, now, she won’t be so lost and won’t be so foolish when it came to making their way through the cave.

“So, what did you do as a living in real life?” Kasier asked. Since she had given him a lot of here personal information, it was only right that he told her some of his past experiences and life as well. “Yeah, being in medical school is super tiring but in the end, it will be worth it because I would be able to save all those lives. You were born in America? So, where do you live now?” She asked, wandering about the man. His background seemed quite interesting, just like his personality and what appeared to be a another side of him that he had. At least, that was what she thought even if he denied it. However, she wasn’t sure so she would wait until she saw the occasion once more.

It was then that she suddenly saw movement in the shadows. It was purple. Something was within the shadows. With a motion, she notified that the purple dragon, Velnia was indeed right there. Velnia, the purple dragon was here. She had found it and now, it was time for them to tame it. Kasier smirked as she watched Itzal tossing a piece of rabbit leg to her. It felt slimy and gross but with a flash of a motion, she threw the rabbit meat at the dragon and watched as it slowed down and finally came to a stop before beginning to nibble on the rabbit.

However, after it bit down, it realized that it was being captured and fled instantly.

“Geez... I guess we failed eh?”
