[F5:PP:NK] Butchering the <<Butcher of the Sands>> COMPLETE

Recommended Posts

Another day had passed in Aincrad and Seul was ready to face whatever lies ahead with his sword raised high. Today's mission involved taking on one of the more notorious field bosses, the Butcher of the Sands. He had only heard the rumors surrounding the creature but from what he could tell the quest was required to be done with a party of players. After reaching a relatively decent level the Lodestar was used to doing things on his own if he could. If it wasn't for that one stipulation he would have already been on the path toward fighting the boss.

So here he was instead, standing by the arena's entrance waiting for anyone to respond to the mass message he sent out regarding the quest. Hopefully whoever showed up would be able to handle himself or herself in the fight since the butcher's movements sounded random according to those who bested it in the past.

Beatbox sighed, he knew he needed to fight against higher leveled bosses and stop fighting against the low floor mobs and bosses, they we're just not going to cut it anymore... he needed to shoot for something big now. He needed to fight harder bosses to get better EXP. He looked at his familiar Ocarina that had been on his shoulder as he contemplating what boss he should end up facing... and as he was deep in thought he had received a message... "Oh god not another floor party..." he said as those happened very frequently in the past few weeks. He opened it and found that it was the complete opposite... it was a message to get people to join up on a quest... he looked to see who it was from and he saw it was from Seul, the guy he had seen at the floor boss meeting not too long ago. Beatbox smiled as he knew that this was his ticket to show what he could do for the boss raid that is soon to come. Beatbox headed in the direction in which Seul had been waiting. He found the location and had found Seul, he waved to get his attention and said "Hey there Seul, saw that you needed some help with a quest..." with a smile.

"Bloody hell!  I thought I was done with this floor!"

The hunter shouted out from the dunes that encompassed the entirety of the fifth floor.  It was a hot and unforgiving place that used to be the hunter's old hunting grounds.  He knew the desert floor like the back of his hand, and knew quite well where his guild mate was at.  Of course, the hunter could also use his map to find friendly markers, but that wasn't very fun.  He found his way without the need of this world's trinkets.

The area that Seul was at was an old battleground.  The site of a war that had long since died away; swept into the sands that cover this land.  The only things that still stood were old and broken weapons that stood in a circle.  The inside was empty, for the most part, but the sand would sometimes move.  The hunter had tried to enter, but was barred from entry.  It needed a group of people to enter the arena, or so the templates say.

As the hunter approached his guild mate, he noticed that another was there as well.  It was one that he had only just came to know.  He grinned at the opportunity to see his strength.  Waving towards the both of them with his non-armored hand, his jade hair that was his name sake billowed in the wind.

"Seul!  Beatbox!  Ready to take this thing!"

"Glad you two could make it." He said with a smile while looking between the pair. Without wasting any time he took a few seconds to swipe through his menu HUD until the party invites were successfully sent. Once they accepted he turned to enter the arena and was greeted by the quest prompt. With the press of a button their task was underway. The sand shook only a couple yards away and from it erupted the form of the boss, Sand Satsu, who charged at him upon locking eyes.

"We meet at last." Seul unsheathed his sword from the scabbard on his back and met the charge with a light jog. If only the arena wasn't so sandy though, as it made it somewhat difficult to move. A swing from his blade should have cut open the creature, but using its own enormous, half-circle glaive Sand Satsu managed to deflect the blow and direct the knight's weapon downward, plunging it into the sand.

"It's an honor to fight along side you Seul." he said with a smile as a response to his introduction, he saw that he invited us two to a party, without much thought he had accepted the party invite and looked back to Hirru "...well, I am as ready as I'll ever be, I think I wont be using a potion as I need to save mine for future days." he said as he looked back forward to Seul noticing that he had already been starting up the quest, without much time after the quest was accepted the sand shook not too far and the Sand Satsu had emerged from the sand, and part of this kinda felt familiar in a way... probably the blood in the sand quest, with a smile he had seen that Seul unfortunately missed against it, however Beatbox waited for just the right second and he swung his sword performing his favorite sword art dishing out damage to the boss, he looked back to Hirru and gave him a nod as it was his turn.

"Good!  I was hoping to see how you would handle yourself against a dangerous boss."

As they entered the arena, the sands underneath them seemed to part ways as a large lizard claw appeared from the grainy depths.  Soon after, another would follow suit, but this one would carry a large crescent blade.  It didn't take long for the rest of the creature to reveal itself.  It looked like a humanoid crocodile.. alligator?  Lizard!  A humanoid lizard with battle scars all along its hide.  It seemed to beckon us forward to challenge us.

Seul was first, but was easily batted away by the veteran warrior.  The hunter couldn't help but let out a good laugh at it.  It was then that the hunter watched Beatbox have his turn at the creature.  Just as a one handed straight sword user should, he bypassed the bosses guard and went to town on it with... a rank 3 sword art?  The damage was decent; comparable to his own using the same art.  The hunter's brow raised at that while readying his own art.

"Alright, but let's kick it up a notch."

The jade hunter said before the orange glow that encompassed Oath would tell him when to go.  Shooting out, the hunter also bypassed the expertise that the boss shown and flourished out an eleven count sword art that would destroy a large chunk of its health.  Jumping back before the cooldown struck, the hunter would shout back to Seul.

"Hey!  Don't let the one handed users show you up, Seul!  It's not even a challenge.  Obliterate it!"

Seul struggled to remove the sword from the sandy floor but did so just in time to be met with the bad end of Sand Satsu's glaive. The creature swung in a diagonal arc and managed to tear a wound open on the knight's body while simultaneously sending him flying through the air a short distance.

He landed with a thud that he assumed was satisfying to the monster's ears, but was relatively unharmed despite the hit. Regret's holy blessing took effect and closed the cut slightly while restoring some of his health and in the next moment he was back to his feet and running at the crocodile. After missing his initial attack it was only natural that he be the one to bear the hit from the boss this rotation, but he wasn't afraid of dishing out a little pain of his own. After entering strike range he firmly planted one foot on the ground and activated Galaxy Destroyer; imitating Sand Satsu's movements and even sending it flying in return as he dug his blade into its flesh.

The butcher was on the verge of death, but wasn't done yet. Not only did it shake off the damage, it also stood up proudly as its size grew to nearly double what it was before.

"You're up, @Beatbox!"

Beatbox had saw both Hirru and Seul strike against the sand lizard dealing massive amounts of damage to it... true, he could do the same with the help of a potion and he soon will be able to get to Rank 5 right before he knows it... but he gained a sense of... am I really helping out in this situation? He shook his head and stayed on track on the quest at hand, he looked and saw that the boss was almost dead, Beatbox smirked and lunged forward performing the same sword art, dealing enough damage to end it's life. Beatbox took a deep breath as he knew it was over. He looked upward and turned around to Hirru and Seul and said to them "Well... uh, I guess I should have used the potion to end this a lot earlier... but uh... good work everyone!" he giggled even though he knew that this wasn't much of a challenge.

"Nah, it was a fairly simple boss.  What you really need is to fully master your sword skills."

The hunter would say before looking at the blonde haired warrior.  He could tell that he had not fully gained all of the ranks towards his one handed straight sword skill, as he used the strongest rank three art twice.  Even after that, he talked about using a potion to augment his strength further, which meant that he perform any higher damage without it.  The hunter figured that if it was the case, then Beatbox must be using several modifications to boost the effects.

"Don't think I didn't notice those sword arts, but it's okay.  You're on your way to a maximum damage build, which will aid you in the front lines."

The hunter looked around the arena for a bit, and noticed that there wasn't much around here after the boss was defeated.  He scoffed at the blasted thing.  It could have at least stayed alive longer, or given them a route to a sub-dungeon.  Something other than.. whatever Seul got.

"So, you guys want to find a sub-dungeon?"

"With skill like that I'm sure Beatbox will be an impressive frontliner in no time." He said with a satisfied smile. With one final swing of his blade he proudly placed the weapon back in its scabbard before turning his gaze toward the sky. The boss posed no threat to them what as he expected and the fight had taken no time at all. Before he could think of the next course of action the reward screen appeared before him. Though it was nothing really worth keeping around so he dismissed it in favor of addressing Hirru.

"Sure, I'm down with searching for a dungeon. The mobs on this floor shouldn't be too tough and the extra experience will be good to have before the boss fight." With that he wasn't sure exactly where the entrance to a dungeon would be around such a place, but he knew that the hunter was better suited to find one than he was at the moment.

Beatbox had looked over to Seul with a smile and said "Thank you Seul, I am working hard on getting my weapon skill rank up... I am almost at 4, I just need just a tad bit more EXP, so the sub dungeon would help out I suppose, lets go find one then!" he said with a smile back to Hirru, Beatbox was rather scared about the upcoming boss raid... he didn't want to die so early on in this game... he wanted to fight along side many of other players, he wants to do so many things with so many people, yet... he still wants to fight, but entering a boss raid can only ensure one thing... the chance of death. And that didn't settle well in Beatbox's stomach, but he figured that he would soon get over it. He shook off his thoughts and had followed Seul and Hirru to wherever they had gone to, to find the sub-dungeon. Beatbox isn't great at all with scouting, but he would help them as much as he could... even though he's really there to help fight against the mobs and the boss that happens to be there.

The hunter nodded to the agreement that they would search for a sub-dungeon.  With that, the hunter opened his menu to look at his local map.  They were in the lower left quadrant of the fifth floor, and the hunter only knew of one sub-dungeon that was in this area, but it had multiple entrances that would appear randomly.  The sands always shifted so much that you could find one entrance, but it would be gone the next day.  There were plenty others north of them where the actual floor dungeon resided, but that was also covered by a large sand storm.

The hunter thought about which of the places for the local sub-dungeon could be.  Before long, the hunter swiped his menu way and started out towards the west.  Hopefully, the desert was kind to them today, but there was never any guarantee that it would be there.  Heck, he didn't even know if the sub-dungeon had reset itself from the last time he visited it.  Also, there wasn't any notion that anyone else had plundered it recently, either.

"Well, I guess we'll see if one of my charted sub-dungeons is active."

Hirru looked like he knew what  he was doing so Seul didn't really have any concerns about following him. Most other times he went out in search of a dungeon he was in the man's party and one was discovered. Seul stayed quiet and looked toward the sky, letting the sun's rays bathe him in warmth as he let his thoughts wander to other things. Mainly how lacking his own skills still were. He enjoyed using the two handed sword, but having it came with a cost. One that he would need to fix sooner rather than later if he wanted to remain on the frontlines.

With that being the  case, he did have a plan though. The only reason he even invested in the picking skill was to have a fair chance at finding unique items. If he could do that  his value would definitely increase in no time and his path toward becoming a well known player would become shorter.

Their walk wouldn't take very long until the hunter had activated his Reveal modification.  Something that he learned to do was the ability to enable the mod in only one eye, which happened because of this floor.  With Reveal, one could see through objects and certain terrain, making them seem semi-transparent.  When the mod was active in both eyes, it would give a sense of unease to the user, if the area was unstable.  Like sand.  You could say that the hunter didn't really have a sense for his sea legs.

As they reached the spot that the hunter had marked, he found that nothing was around.  No ruins; no obelisks.  Only sand.

"Damn!  This entrance is buried in the sand.  I hate this floor..."

As he said that, he checked his map again.  Another entrances would be farther to the north east, which seemed to have something going on.  The heat seemed to distort their sight, but the hunter could swear that the sand was moving in large quantities.

"Well, this one is bust, but there is another one.  Though, I think something big is barring our way."

The three had made their way across the land where Hirru had said that he seen one, however as they had got there they had found nothing but sand. He looked at Hirru with a smirk and said to him "If we we're looking for sand all I would have to do is look down, its everywhere in this floor." he giggled. He was a little disappointed that the entrance was buried with a bunch of sand, he was hoping that they would head into a dungeon without waiting and searching for another one, but however things happen and Beatbox had to deal with it. "Lead the way then Hirru." Beatbox had said to Hirru with a smile as he had mentioned that there was another one. Beatbox had took a deep breath, he really hated this floor, all this floor was to him was just sand. "Theres not much to see here, its just sand. And nothing but Sand with the occasional town here and there." he sighed as he had followed behind Seul and Hirru.

Seul hadn't been paying too much attention over the course of their trip and that was mainly due to the fact he was caught up in his own thoughts. He did notice that there was a lack of dungeons being found by their party at the moment. Half of him wanted to give up right there and then, but he knew better than that. When things get tough, one needs to get tougher. With a little patience and wishful thinking they would probably find a dungeon in no time.

There was not really much he could do to help their situation other than simply shrug at their misfortune and follow Hirru's lead once more. In the end the experience to be gained from clearing a dungeon was too enticing to be ignored, so with that in mind he would keep silent and press on alongside his fellow players... For now anyway.

(Ignore the Orange Marker, I am still Green in this thread.)

Beatbox sighed, not much had been going on as of the recent, he looked around the area and frowned as there was nothing to really see... it was just honestly nothing but sand. He never really liked this floor, there was honestly nothing to really see other than the occasional giant scorpion... town... or entry to a dungeon... and even then its a maybe if you ever see those. Seul and Hirru stayed awfully quiet while they were looking and Beatbox didn't really like that... his fear of the silence he feared was kicking in so he figured that he would speak up and break the silence. "So uh... are we going to find another Dungeon or do you think that we should just head out since its getting fairly late." he asked towards them ad he had noticed that it was indeed getting rather later and later. The sun hasn't set yet or doesn't look like it's going to set, but it was still a question to ask to break the silence between the three.

The group walked for a while only to be met with mounds of sand and disappointment at every turn. The Cardinal was being rather cruel on this day, but at the very least they were able to slay Sand Satsu for a nice experience boost. It seemed that Beatbox was sharing the same attitude toward the trip as he was. Turning his gaze toward the sky he could see that it was starting to get somewhat late. Being out after dark wasn't something that appealed to him anymore with the mobs becoming more dangerous than they used to be, even on the lower floors. "Guess it's time to put the kibosh on this whole dungeon hunting thing and try again some other time." He would say before opening up the menu and dissolving the party. "It's been fun but I still have a few things I need to get done on my own before the boss fight."

Beatbox had nodded and saw that Seul had disbanded the party and decided that it was time that we should all head out, he gave them both a smile and said to them "I'll be more than glad to join y'all when you guys want to get together and find another dungeon!" he gave them a warm smile and said "Same, I need to get my One Handed Straight Sword to Rank 5 and ferocity there as well that way my damage is in good shape when the boss raid comes around the corner. I'll catch you all later!" he said with a wave and a smile as he had walked away from them to the floor teleporter to get him anywhere but this floor, he absolutely hated this floor... all it was sand, and nothing but sand. He took a deep breath and looked up to the sky, he was hoping that he would start feeling better soon, because this game knew how to continuously bring Beatbox down in the dumps with sadness.

End it out @Seul ;)
