[SP-F1-NK] The Second Coming of the Sunny Go <<Rovian Wars Event Part 1 - Gathering>>

Perhaps it was because Bhairyuu was rushing to gather the wood for the event quest before the deadline, but regardless the fact remained that he ended up not being as careful as he should have been while examining the tree. He had chopped it up as usual, laid the wood pieces on the floor in a pile. Then he had tapped on it and waited for the results window to pop up in the next second or so.

To his misfortune, the results window that had popped up showed that he failed to gather any wood at all this time around, so he threw the wood pile away and then moved on to the next tree reminding himself

"Note to self, check these trees more thoroughly before cutting them down...less hassle that way and way less effort spent too...

With that, he began to check the next tree much more carefully, going over every inch from top to bottom with all his senses on high alert for any disagreeable effects from any infestation or decadence.

Bhairyuu had found nothing that caught his eye in the way of being disagreeable or unsuitable, so he went ahead with the same process he had repeated several times by now, that is to say, chopping the tree down, then hacking it to pieces, arranging those pieces in a stack or loose pile, and finally tapping on the stack or pile to bring up the results window

Once the results window came up, he checked through the contents displayed therein only to find that he had failed to get any wood yet again, which caused him to frown, and ponder

"Hmm, what am I doing wrong here? There has to be a reason for this...then again, maybe it's just <<Cardinal>> doing a bad randomized drop...oh well, on to the next tree..."

Resigning himself to just accepting whatever he got, Bhairyuu moved on to the next tree in line, this one being the second to last one in the cluster he was currently working on.

Bhairyuu once again spent several minutes searching the tree from top to bottom for anything suspicious or obviously bad for the quality of the wood, but he did not find anything, so he chopped the tree into more manageable pieces and after setting them down in a loose pile, he tapped on the wood to pull up the results window, wondering what he would get this time and whether there was any point to even examining the trees.

Fortune seemed to favor him this time for when the results window appeared, it showed that he had acquired high quality wood in this attempt of his, causing him to smile a little. However, Bhairyuu did not let himself get carried away and instead just braced himself mentally for the next tree which was the last one in the cluster. After putting away the wood in his inventory menu, Bhairyuu went over to one of the tree stumps formed from him chopping down the trees in the cluster and sat down to relax for a while before moving on to the next cluster.

After haviing taking a power nap, Bhairyuu was once again refreshed, so he set off deeper into the forest with renewed vigor, the thought of coming ever closer to meeting the requirements of the event quest spurring him onward. He reached a tree cluster after several minutes of searching but it promised only average quality. Still Bhairyuu did not falter , but rather went ahead with the same process, cutting the first of the trees down and then chopping it up into lumber pieces of medium size. After that, he gathered those pieces into a pile on the forest floor and then tapped the top of the pile, pulling up the results window

As he had expected, the results did indeed show him that he had gotten only average level wood from this tree he had cut down just now, but he accepted it anyways since to him, by now, wood was wood and he had to take what he could get because he could not afford to throw away wood of even average quality. He stored the wood in his inventory under the quest Items section and then after dismissing his inventory, he moved on to the second tree in the cluster, muttering

"Hmm, I wonder what <<Cardinal>> will have for me this time around..."

Bhairyuu moved to the next tree, positioned himself properly to make efficient axe swings so he would not waste any energy, and after examining the tree, he began to chop it down. This tree was no different from the previous one which had yielded average level wood to him, so he did not expect much out of it. Nevertheless, he gathered the lumber from the cut tree and after heaping it up, he tapped it once and waited for the results window to show up again like before.

The tree lived up to his expectations since when the results window showed up, hovering a few centimeters above the wood pile, it once again showed only average wood instead of something better like decent or high quality wood. Bhairyuu sighed as a small part of him was miffed that his prediction about the tree had come true, but he didn't let that kill his mood. Instead, after putting the wood away, he moved onto the next tree in the cluster, checking his axe to see if it was alright enough after having been slammed against so many tree trunks so many times both by Khrysaor and by him as well.

After checking the axe out thoroughly, Bhairyuu set about studying the tree so that he could try to discern the quality of the wood before getting to work on chopping down the tree to get said wood. He spent several minutes like before since he did not want to expend energy unnecessarily and afterward, he began cutting down the tree and hacking it into smaller pieces of lumber. Once that was done, he put all the lumber pieces in a pile, knelt down beside it and tapped on the topmost lumber piece to active the sequence that would bring up the results window. While waiting he wondered

"Hmm, this whole cluster looks pretty average, but this tree looks somewhat different...I wonder what that means..."

Soon the results window materialized, hovering above the wood pile and showed, to Bhairyuu surprise, that he had gotten high quality wood from this particular tree. However, Bhairyuu did not let himself get carried away, telling himself

"Bah...this must be just a fluke...I am sure it won't happen again...damn you <<Cardinal>>..."

He mutter thus and then swiped his right hand through the air to call up the inventory menu. After that he scrolled down to the quest items section, opened it and stored the wood there, causing the count of high qualty wood listed to rise by 1. After that he moved onto the next tree, wondering why he had suddenly gotten a high quality wood pile from an average looking tree cluster.

Bhairyuu moved to face the next tree and upon getting into a proper position, he started the same process over, studying the tree from the branches above to the roots below, carefully looking for anything that could clue him in regarding the quality of wood he was likely to get, but did not find anything too out of the ordinary exceot for the fact that this tree just like the last one that had given him high quality wood, was somewhat odd compared to the others in the bunch...like it had received bettwe sustenance or something like that. Bhairyuu shook himself to rest his thoughts and to keep them from interfering with the task at hand and then he chopped the tree down into several pieces of lumber, making sure to use all of what he had gotten from the tree. Once that was done, he tapped on the wood pile he made from the lumber to bring up the results window.

The results window showed up as usual, but it surprised Bhairyuu once again just like it had with the immediately previous tree since it showed that he had acquire decent wood and not just average as he had expected from the trees in the cluster. Bhairyuu groaned softly in exasperation, but called up his inventory menu anyway, storing the wood he found under the quest items section, and making the count of decent wood listed there increase by one more unit, all the while wondering

"I won't be fooled...this result is a fluke as well...you can't trick me, <<Cardinal>>...I am on guard now..."

After grumbling for a few minutes about <<Cardinal>>, the AI system that oversaw this death game that he was currently trapped in, Bhairyuu set his sights on the next tree slated for being chopped down and went through the same motions yet again, studying the tree, then hacking it to pieces with several well-placed swings of his axe, and piling the resultant lumber into a stack on the forest floor. After that, he knelt down once again and tapped the pile once to bring up the results window, not really expected to find anything of value at all due to the average quality of wood in the trees of the current cluster.

When the results window came, Bhairyuu let out a soft sigh for the umpteenth time as this time, his expectations for the quality of the wood came true, that is to say, he did not find any wood that could be of use to build the concept ship that he and Khrys were working on for the <<Rovian Wars>> event quest. He threw the wood away since it was of no further use to him and then went over to the next tree, wondering what sort of wood he would get from the tree, but not really expecting too much from it.

Bhairyuu was not expecting much from this next tree either, but he went through the same procedure as he had for the other trees, now being more or less on auto-pilot because of how many times he had actually done the same thing so far. So within about half an hour he had finished examining the tree, gotten into position, cut the tree to nice easy to handle pieces of lumber, organized the lumber into a stack and then tapped on it to bring up the results window expecting to get average quality wood from it since that was all that this wood cluster promised him for the most part.

When the results window popped up over the wood pile, the contents were just as he had expected them to be, perfectly ordinary, average quality wood, but as far as he was concerned any wood of usable quality was good enough, so he decided to take it. So, he swiped his right hand lightly through the air next to him, causing the inventory menu to appear in his visual field. Then he scrolled down the menu and then hit the quest button and then proceeded to the sub-screen where all the quest items he had so far were listed. After that, he hit the "Confirm" button, causing the wood to disappear and the count of <<Normal Wood>> to increase by one. Once he was finished he moved on to the next tree, muttering

"Yep, that was more or less what I expected...no need to get myself psyched up thinking I can get good quality wood from this tree cluster...oh well..."

At last, Bhairyuu reached the second to last tree in the cluster and began examining it for any signs of decay or other sources of damages that could potentially ruin the wood quality and make it unusable for his purposes. He did not find any such agent, so he took up a comfortable striking position before the tree, muttering as if talking to the tree itself

"Now then, what wood will you grace me with? Will it be one of those flukes again with high quality wood or will it be my expected ordinary, average level wood? Let' see now..."

With that, he began chopping away at the tree trunk, felled it to the forest floor with a semi-loud thud, and then proceed to hack the tree into small pieces of lumber which he then piled atop one another and touched the top one gently to open the results window

Then he waited for that one second it took for the window to pop up and when it did, he found that <<Cardinal>> had surprised him again by granting him highy quality wood, but this did not please him one bit, in fact, it threw him off slightly and so he grumbled while pulling up his inventory menu

"Chikushō...just what the hell are you playing at, <<Cardinal>>?...You damn AI..."

However, despite all his grumbling he still accepted the high quality wood because it would be of great help to him and Khrys in building their concept ship, a full-scale model of the "Sunny Go" from their one favorite animes, the show called "One Piece".

Bhairyuu was now up to the last tree in the current cluster he was working on and like before, he performed the same steps over again, specifically, scanning the tree from top to bottom, going over every inch with his keen jade green gaze on the lookout for anything that might tip him off to the quality of wood he could get from the tree. After several minutes, he did not find anything too out of the ordinary. So he began chopping the tree down to size with his trusty tomahawk like hand-axe and had soon made quick work of the tree, converting it into a pile of lumber at his feet. He then sat down and tapped on the pile gently to summon the results window, once again not really expecting anything major to come of his efforts.

Just as he had expected, he did not find any wood that could be of any use for the arts and crafts project he was doing with Khrysaor for the <<Rovian Wars>> event. So he threw it away and then moved onto the next cluster of trees. However before getting to work on finding them, he laid down to take a catnap so that he could rest his tired limbs in the shade of one of the giant trees that stood nearby, towering above all others.

Maybe it was because Bhairyuu had woken up with his mind and body still very much under the thrall of the goddess of sleep, but one thing was for sure, Bhairyuu had not put forth as much effort this time around in examining the first tree of the next cluster near him. Furthermore, this cluster also seemed to be average or even below average for some of the trees, so he was not expecting much when he went about preparing the wood pile from the first tree after he cut it down. He tapped on the pile to retrieve the results window and waited patiently for it to come up.

"Ugh...I know I wasn't expecting much, but Īkagen'ni shite...on to the next one then..."

With that, he threw away the wood pile and moved on to the next tree in line, wondering if it too would disappoint him like this first one did. Of course, he was not expecting much from the second one either.

Bhairyuu was in a little too much hurry to finish his share of the workload and so with this next tree, he unknowingly overlooked the finer details of its structure. He had gone about the usual pattern, chopping the tree down, hacking it into smaller pieces, stacking them, and then tapping the top to call the results screen but he wouldnt be getting anything this time either contrary to his expectations. He began to wait for the screen to show up, all the while wondering

"Kuso...I was a bit careless with my check for this tree...I just hope it won't affect my results adversely..."

Yet again, Bhairyuu through the same maneuvers, studying the tree in minute detail, chopping it down into lumber, piling the lumber pieces atop one another and finally lightly pressing on the top of the stack to bring up the results menu. While he waited, he wondered

"I wonder...will this tree give me better quality wood than the last one?...I mean the wood does seem to be of the rarer kind in this tree in comparison to the others...it would be great if that happened..."

Thankfully for Bhairyuu, his lucky stars seemed to be in ascendance, and so when the results screen came up, it showed that he had managed to snag decent quality wood instead of the duds or average kind of wood from before. As he examined it with curiosity, he muttered

"Well, I'll be...this wood is of a decent quality...just as I hoped and predicted...what a big help this will be to my stores of wood for this event..."

Muttering thus, he pulled up the inventory menu, stored the wood under the quest items section and then moved on to the next tree in line.

Bhairyuu's elation from finding decent quality wood dulled his senses a little and caused him to drop his guard and so he was lax in his examination of the this next tree he had moved on to, not that he realized it at the moment. So naturally, he went about his work of converting the tree to lumber, made said lumber into a nice neat pile and tapped the top of the pile once to call up the results screen.

Bhairyuu realized his mistake when he looked through the results of his work on the tree, but it was too late to do anything about it, so with a frustrated groan, he threw away the wood and moved on to the next tree in the cluster, reminding himself that he had to be more careful and thorough with his examination of the tree

"Hmm...that was a sad sight indeed...note to self...spend more time and be more thorough in studying this next tree...for whether or not I clear this event properly could depend on it..."

While being lost in his thoughts in this manner, Bhairyuu moved over to the next tree in line, once again reminding himself to be more deliberate in his study of the trees of the forest to ensure higher rates of success.

Keeping his earlier failure to gather any wood of useable quality from the previous tree, Bhairyuu took much more time to study the current tree which was also the fourth to last one in this cluster he was occupied with at present. After nearly 30 minutes of study, Bhairyuu went into action, quickly hacking the tree into make lumber with his powerful, swift axe blows, arranging them in a loose pile, and touchng the top of the stack once to call the results screen. After that, he waited while muttering

"Let's see...this tree did not have any devaluing agents infesting it...and the wood seemed sturdy enough to me...could it be possible I can get high quality wood from this tree?

Fate had smiled on him after a long time and so, when the results screen came up, Bhairyuu's lips contorted into a smug grin as he saw how taking hs time and studying the wood before chopping it down paid off in full and gave him such high quality wood. After a few seconds, he calmed down, called up the inventory menu, stored the wood he got from the tree under the quest items section and then moved on to the third to last tree in the group.

Bhairyuu decided to take a short nap so that he could be fresh for  when he examined the last three trees, but this proved to be his undoing, for shortly after he had laid down, he was abruptly awakened from his sweet slumber by the shrieks of what sounded like crows or ravens as they rose into the sky. Since he was thus startled, he coul not go back to sleep, so he decided to get back to work on gathering the wood he needed for the event quest. However, since he was still very much shaken from his experience just a few seconds ago, he was not able to focus as much of his energies into studying the tree in great detail. Nevertheless, he had proceeded through the rest of the steps too, not stopping to think about it and after calling the results window, he waited as usual.

Cause gave way to effect as the results window displayed his failure to gather any wood that could be useful to them, making Bhairyuu sigh in exasperation as he threw the wood away and moved onto the second to last tree in the cluster, all the while reminding himself that he had to be careful and not let his guard down and become lax in his efforts towards the event quest.
