(SP-F9) A Burning Desire (Feeding the Enemy)

Recommended Posts

Jonathan watched as the dragon went round and round, scorching the volcano. Somehow, it was effective. The air was getting much hotter, and there was an occasional rumble. He had to stop the creature somehow! He sheathed his weapon and took a deep breath. The dragon was circling really close. Perhaps he could... jump. He was the flying tank after all. He smiled at the thought of his nickname. He bound forward, leaping of at just the right time. He fell through the air, and for a split second he thought he would fail. He landed on the back of the dragon and he grasped one of its scales to keep on. The beast grunted, obviously angry that someone was riding it. Great. Now he was on the beast, how to get to stop was his next problem. The wind was in his face, and he would feel great if he were not about to die. 'How to do this....'

Jonathan looked around. The dragon was getting closer and closer to the volcano, as if it were going to smash him off. Fine then, if that is what it wanted. He unsheathed his weapon, and thrust it in between two of the dragon's scales. The creature screeched, the health it had remaining, slowly going down. He turned his weapon right, turning the dragon right as well. They were heading straight for the edge of the volcano. He breathed one last time before using the remaining bit of his energy to vault upward, landing on top of the volcano. The dragon did not get the same break, and it smashed into the side, taking a chunk off the volcano. The flaming mountain rumbled further, and became extremely unstable. He had to get out of there! Familiar or not, it was most likely immune to fire where he was not!

The blond scrambled forward, but he heard cracking underneath his body. The small hole in the center was steaming like crazy. He began to slowly move forward, every step was like torture, waiting to burn him alive. With one final leap, the rest of the top of the volcano fell into the burning chasm, and Jonathan was on the side. The volcano rumbled, just waiting to burst, but it remained still as if waiting for a key moment. He looked inside, searching for the small familiar that would be flying about. Perhaps it was in there, and the volcano is what gave it strength. He looked upon the sides on the inside of the volcano. Stairs leading down were seen, perhaps the entrance to the boss room. Was this possibly where they found it? Perhaps there was just a secret entrance to get in, if that was it then that was extremely cool.

Just looking at the stairs inside the volcano made him quite cautious. He threw himself over the side and found the stairs below were quite stable. The heat was killing him though. He knew he would not be able to last long down here, and if he stayed too long he would slowly roast himself to death. Only survival was keeping him alive here. Without it, he would have died a long time ago. The heat became much intense in a short second and he threw himself into the wall. Something was coming. The real question was, was it the something he was looking for, or perhaps something he did not want to see at all? He would hate to have to keep searching for the familiar. In fact, as far as he was concerned he would take a long break after this. Just spend some time alone, relaxing. He would have earned it after this journey.

OH YEAH!

Jonathan looked closer and finally seen it. It was the creature he had been looking for all this time. A white phoenix flew before him. Its wings were engulfed with a blue flames at the moment, but it rapidly changed to a bright orange. It peered at Jonathan and slowly flew over to him. As it did, it became much hotter and Jonathan had to squint his eyes so he was not blinded. Then the creature did something a bit unexpected. It landed on his shoulder and a burning feeling seared through his arm. At first it was agony, but then it became a feeling, then... a sensation. He actually felt pretty good! The phoenix's fire died down a bit, allowing him to see its bright white feathers, reminding him of the Sun. He would name it something after that. The sun.... A gleam found itself in Jonathan's eyes. "Hello. T is really nice to meet you... Sol."
