ID # 74715: Battle: 3 = miss

EP: 1/14

Beat did his best imitation of Bruce Lee as he danced around the Boar, opposite of Shield. He winced as the boar bowled him over and laughed as he watched Shield's health go right back up. Crossreign had never made the player feel as powerful as Sword Art Online did and it was certainly a rush. Still, he could understand that, while the game nullified nearly all of the pain, it probably didn't feel great. He cracked his knuckles as he began to close in on the boar.

"Alright, alright, I'll end it."

The boar stood fast, awaiting his attack, determined to survive and exact vengeance for the loss of her digital children. Still limited to basic attacks, Beat simply aimed a quick sidekick at the boar's face. The boar, in a moment of brilliance,  swung its head and managed to actually deflect Beat's kick with its tusk. Beat stared in amazement as he struggled to regain his balance. The boar roared in triumph, glaring at Beat before being forced to return its attention to Shield

"What...are you?"

While the boar was not dying just yet, it was clearly out of its element and outclassed, confused by the lashing it was taking from Beat, but unable to keep its attention away from the shield wielding warrior in front of her. It spun on the spot, oscillating back and forth as if it knew where the punishment was really coming from.

Each time it turned its back, Shield crowded it a little more, forcing it to acknowledge him and continue to back up. Finally, it had had enough of being pushed around and lunged for her more domineering adversary, though far from her most dangerous. As Shield sensed the boar winding up to launch herself forward, he growled at it brandishing his spear, and it flinched. Attempting to stop itself mid lunge, it lost its balance and stumbled forward onto its knees, losing its attack.

"Again! Keep the pressure on!"

EP 1/14

Beat's smile had somewhat faded now and he had begun to s;ow his movements in favor of more efficient, less wasteful maneuvers. He was still enjoying himself, but now it was because of a worthy opponent who would clearly not be mocked, even on the verge of defeat. Their enemy demanded respect and would not go down before it received it. He spoke calmly, giving the Boar a serious expression as he calculated his next move.

"Okay, fine. If it is an honorable death you want, then I'll give you one."

Beat turned into a blur as he rushed the boar, bringing his palm back and cocking it, ready to spear his opponent in the ribs. As if fate had decided the boar would simply not die that day, the Boar hopped sideways, towards Beat, at the last second, running into his would be grim reaper, sending Beat flying over the Boar as he flipped over his target and into the air. Beat yelled as he flew straight up into the air.

"Why won't you just diiiiiiieeee!!!?"

While it refused to give in, its fighting spirit seemed to be diminishing, and its efforts to respond to and push back against both opponents meant that it did both halfheartedly. Seeing its resolve weakening, Shield pressed their advantage, rushing forward with his shield-arm in front.

"Beat, I'm gonna try to make you an opening!"

The boar tried to throw its weight at the oncoming assailant, but it missed with its tusks, sailing them to Shield's left. The iron wall of force slammed into her side, taking away what balance she had left after overextending herself. Her feet tried to dig in but only skidded uselessly across the harmless clay, eventually giving way entirely as she fell onto her massive flank.

As he stood over her panting, Shield looked over to his companion, lifting up his spear and shouting with the resonance of his full chest.

"Now give her hell!"

Basic Attack Dmg: 5+2 = 7

Momma Boar [-6/70 Hp] Dead Forever!

Beat had flown up a good twenty into the air before his ascent had slowed and he was able to right himself, aiming himself back at his target. He smiled as he was not unaware of the familiar position they were in. It was like fate was giving him a second chance, except this time, Shield had managed to get the Boar onto its side, this was it.

"Enough! This ends now!"

As he had done before, Beat descended at the speed gravity would allow him, turning his body to adjust his course as much as he could until he was satisfied with his aim. He bent his legs up and waited for the perfect moment, holding out until the very last possible second before stomping down harshly into the Boar's ribs, snapping them with an audible crack that sounds lack a small bundle of firecrackers. A loud, fading squeal echoed out as the boar fizzled out, its model slowly glitching out in pieces rather than the standard animation. The two of them would notice a single material package where the boar had died, leaving nothing else as a reward for their first hard fought battle.

"Note to self, never fight glitched mobs...jeez..."

He tossed the material to Shield and held out a fist bump, a smile on his face.

"Not bad for our first fight though. This combat system is realistic as hell. Very intense."

Stepping over to the only remains that the boar had left behind, Shield gladly added them to his index and turned to Beat, blowing air out between his lips as he uncoiled the tension that he held in his body from the battle.

"Let's get the hell out of here in case there's a respawn timer on that."

He turned, not even bothering to check that Beat was behind him and marched. While the battle had not been physically taxing, they had been playing with fire by engaging with an enemy that was not balanced to be a part of their quest, and apparently had been removed at one point. Mentally, Shield had had enough for the day.

If not for the help we've received leveling and getting some extra loot, that boar would have been out of the question. I'm still not entirely sure it was a safe idea.

They trudged through the miniature badlands designed to be the boar pup nursery and across the hand bridged back to the greener side of the first floor. At the sign of buildings, Shielf almost felt like weeping. He doubled his pace, jogging past the various vendors and crowds of players, ignoring the buildings and the fountains, all except for the blacksmith shop. Pushing his way through the door so quickly that he practically knocked the smith over, he scrolled through his menus and deposited the both sets of tusks. The shop-keep began his canned end-quest dialog.

"Ah! These must be-"

"Yup!" Shield interjected. "Can we get this over with?"
