[SP-F1] Strength in Teamwork

Once more Itzal would be gathering col on the first floor.  With his maxed out sword rank, and his weapon's bonus damage he had been holding his own for a while.  However, Velnia had been training so that she could help Itzal out and she had finally reached the point where she was ready.  Velnia glided beside Itzal, who was wearing Niger Natio, Ascendant's Rosario in his hand, and Beauty Incarnate on his right hand.  The ruby ring was beautiful, but didn't reflect light, which was good since he was sneaking in the trees at the moment.  He was heading over to the area where lizard men tended to spawn.  The last time he was able to collect col, but nearly ran out of energy.  This time would be different he insisted.  With Velnia's extra damage he'd be able to end them quickly, and then move to the next group.  And as usual he'd switch to his twilight cloak when it was time to reap the rewards.  He stopped when he reached the place, four lizard humanoids walking around, each with a longsword in hand.  Save for one.  One of them had a shield, and they all had leather armor on.  Itzal leaped from the branch and landed in the middle, Velnia swooping down as well, her horns and spikes filled with electricity.  "Let's do this boys."

Itzal charged and released his sword art Shadow Explosion, lashing out at the four monsters, and watched as Velnia clawed at them and bit them from the necks and other weak areas before retreating.  Together they dealt much more damage than Itzal used to and he smiled.  Itzal struck again but was blocked by the lizard with the shield.  When it blocked the blow the other lizards rushed in behind it, taking up a formation.  Itzal frowned.  A formation?  It seemed that these monsters were learning a few tricks themselves.  He leaped back and watched as the lizard with the shield charged forward, it's defenses raised and the other three behind it.  The middle one seemed wary of the skies and the two beside him were focused on Itzal.  Well then, Velnia may be energetic, but she's not stupid Itzal thought.  She'll simply maneuver around and strike.

Itzal watched as the lizard men charged, the lizard man who seemed to be playing tank here in the front with it's shield up towards Itzal.  He nodded to Velnia who flew at lightning speed around, hidden in the trees, and flew in from behind, gliding underneath through their legs and flew up at the shield bearer's neck, biting very hard and causing it to roar in agony, suddenly using his shield to (hopelessly) bat Velnia away.  When the opening was made Itzal charged his sword art and rushed at the group, lashing out his weapon at the defender, then slashing the icy blue blade at the other two, who were busy fending Velnia off.  When Itzal struck them they redirected their blows towards Itzal who dodged them yet again and leaped back.  Velnia however stayed and simply distracted them.  Itzal noticed that the two of them had landed the bleed effect, which would make the fight that much quicker.  He smiled as this was indeed going much better than usual.

Itzal watched as the lizard men reformed their formation.  Poorly too.  While they moved amongst themselves, Itzal charged towards the group, striking fast at their ranks.  The goblin with the shield blocked the attack but Itzal simply let his sword slide off and leaped onto the shield and pushed himself over, unleashing shadow explosion upon their forces from above this time, catching them completely by surprise.  Before they could strike back, Velnia swooped in from their level and struck at them all herself, causing them to loose their focus and miss.  Before they could notice Velnia, she flew over to where Itzal landed.  The four turned around in a rage, striking with speed at Itzal who managed to block and deflect each one.  The lizard men may be fast, but Itzal had been building up his strength and speed for a while now and was much faster and stronger than them.

The three lizard men charged Itzal again but he easily dodged, deflected, parried and blocked each and every one of their blows with little effort.  He found it was becoming easier for him to do so actually.  Indeed his training was going rather well.  At the rate this was going the battle would be over soon.  They tried to strike him again but the bleed kicked in, throwing them off.  The lizard with the shield tried to ram him with it but he leaped over and charged his sword art, releasing Shadow Explosion on the four, Velnia striking them all along with him.  As he struck the monsters he recalled all the times he had fought alone.  This time he fought with Velnia.  He used to fight with her there, but the first version of her wasn't much of a help.  Mainly a good distraction was all.  With the damage dealt to the mobs, all he needed to do was switch equipment and shoot for the best loot he could possibly gather.

Foregoing action to switch gear

The lizard men looked at Itzal with pure hate, their eyes flashing red, indicating their last bit of health and adrenaline kicking in.  The monsters slashed, hacked, shoved, and rammed him all they could but he dodged, evaded, blocked, and parried each assault.  However it was time to change gear before the final hit.  Itzal pushed the monsters back with one strike before leaping backwards.  "Velnia!  Can you keep them distracted while I change gear?"  Velnia grinned to Itzal and swooped down to the monsters.  She shot small electric volts at the monsters, gathering their attention.  The lizard men struck ruthlessly at her but she easily dodged their attacks, probing them with more electric shots.  Itzal nodded and opened his inventory, switching his armor to the twilight cloak, switching his evasion for better percentage, and his accuracy ring with skyreach, a ring that increased his col multiplier.

Itzal turned to the lizard men, now re-equipped.  Velnia saw him and nodded, ending her assault and gliding over to his side.  The Lizardmen stopped when they saw him and gritted their teeth with pure hatred.  The four charged, the shield bearer in the front.  Itzal tried to strike him but he used his shield with a swing to knock Itzal's sword out of the way and struck him with it's own.  With that the other three charged forward, slashing at him repeatedly and dealing...  Seven damage each.  That was the beauty of this floor.  The monsters dealt little to nothing against him.  Itzal let them pass when they struck then dashed to his sword and continued to block and parry all attacks from that point on.  Velnia pulled the tail of one of the lizard men, who roared in hatred, swinging at her which, she obviously dodged.  Itzal needed to keep trying, and attempt to get good loot from the monsters.

Itzal continued to strike at them but they manged to block at every turn.  Then the shield warrior jumped in front to block an attack and the others struck at Itzal.  He watched his health drop a teensy bit more but again, not enough to really make him care.  Itzal started to redirect his focus on blocking their attacks for now.  They were proving to be troublesome and Velnia, while helpful, couldn't do anything if Itzal couldn't.  He thought for a moment.  He should start working on stealth after getting the night vision skill...  Or perhaps he should unlock the third rank of martial arts first so he could actually use his strongest sword art.  That would be extremely useful against bosses.  After that he could get night vision, then max out stealth.  When he did, and he got the tracking mod, he'd have all scouting skills totally and utterly mastered.

Itzal attempted another strike at the lizard men again but they blocked his attack and he returned to defense.  If he worried about dealing more damage though, that would be a dps route.  He had damage over time weapon as well as decent damage now.  And besides, he fought multiple enemies at a time anyways, so the last sword art wouldn't do much for him.  And besides, he was a scout, first and foremost.  After he maxed his scout skills he could then work on his martial arts.  After that he could work on skills he already had, such as light armor, meditation, and grab a few ferocity mods while he was at it.  The last light armor mod had an evasion bonus that would rank his evasion from three to four, making him even harder to hit.  However he had a feeling that even with this boost he'd be hit by Beatbox.  That guy could hit anything.  However, regardless of his friend leaving the guild, they would never ever be enemies.  Hopefully they'd still be friends.

The lizards landed a final attack before it happened.  Finally he saw an opening.  Itzal charged Shadow Explosion and released it on the monsters, not showing them any mercy.  He swung his blade at them faster and faster, striking hard and fast, Velnia striking beside him.  With this last attack the monsters were finally, at long last, killed.  As they shattered into pieces Itzal knew that the reason this battle lasted as long as it did wasn't because of his lack of damage, but at his desire to get decent loot.  For being a scout.  He smiled at that thought.  He was indeed a great scout.  He could be greater if he had an LD item but unfortunately there most likely would be absolutely no other item like that.  Even if there was he doubted he'd ever get his hands on it.  He sighed at the thought but there really was nothing he could do.  He had to let it go.  The best he could do was get every scout skill there was.

With all of that over with he sheathed his sword for the moment and looked around for any nearby materials.  As he looked he thought for a moment then decided on his course of action:  He would get night vision, then max out stealth.  That much was certain now.  Afterwards he'd get tracking, and then stealth's mods.  Once he had all that he'd work on light armor skill, giving him even more mit, which would be helpful, but even more so, once he grandmastered it he could get the mod at the end that increases his evasion skill even further, which Itzal thought would be more useful than mit for him at this stage.  Velnia landed on his shoulder and he smiled.  "What do you think Velnia?  Should I take hits easier or be harder to hit."  Velnia then poked his face with her nose before shooting off into the forest.  Itzal chuckled.  She wanted to play hide and seek tag it seemed.  He grinned.  "This is gonna be too easy.  Ready or not here I come!!!"

Itzal leaped into the tree branches, looking everywhere for Velnia.  He wasn't going to use reveal or detect as that wouldn't be fair on Velnia.  No, he'd use his cloak and his skill to find her and nothing else.  He made his way through the branches, scanning the area for his adorable purple dragon.  So far he spotted nothing.  Then he wondered if she shared his stealth skill.  If that were true, the base stealth of ten, plus darkness and obstacle, two, as well as the stealth skill, another two, would be fourteen stealth boost.  If that were the case he'd need about fifteen or higher.  The combination of his skill and gear automatically added eight chance to getting that, and thus he'd need about seven or higher.  The same chances he had for getting materials.  He grinned and started searching in earnest.  Itzal looked around and quickly found his purple dragon.  She grinned when he spotted her.  "Found you.  Don't worry, we'll get our stealth up soon enough."

Velnia did a loop the loop and landed on his shoulder again.  Itzal chuckled but fell silent when he heard movement down below.  He fell silent and looked down, using reveal to see through the leaves and branches, and spotted another four lizard men.  One of them was holding a large, long sword, and a very large shield.  Two carried two handed axes and the fourth carried a spear and circular shield.  They appeared to be searching for something.  And they seemed ticked off.  Itzal was guessing why.  They had spotted the invisible remains of their fallen comrades.  Itzal nodded to Velnia who electrified.  Itzal opened his menu and switched his armor and ring back.  Niger natio, his evasion armor, and Beauty Incarnated, his accuracy ring equipped.  With that he perched on the branch, awaiting the right moment to strike.  As usual, he'd switch his gear at the last moment in order to increase his loot skills and hopefully get more col than before.  It certainly would help the guild's progress...

Itzal stood up straight, then leaped off of his hiding spot.  He drew his sword mid air and watched as the shield bearer, the obvious leader, raised his shield to protect himself.  Itzal landed on the shield, bending his knees to keep himself from harm, then pushed off from the shield, the momentum thus transferring from the fall to his leap.  Itzal backflipped and when he landed charged forward, releasing Shadow Explosion without a moment's hesitation, Velnia striking them afterwards.  However as he struck them, each monster landed a critical hit on him as well.  It wasn't a big deal of course since he had way more health than he needed.  It was his energy he had to be concerned about, but it had fully regenerated by now.  He ran off a little after striking the four mobs, preparing for the next charge when he saw the leader in the front, it's huge shield blocking view of it's body, his eyes hovering above and his sword ready to strike.  This might be a challenge.  Though he doubted it.

Itzal charged again, the shield bearer also charging.  When he was close enough, Itzal leaped over the shield bearer...  And watched his health drop as the humanoid stabbed upward.  He had anticipated Itzal's attack it seemed and his jump was stalled, forcing him to the ground.  As he got to his feet he was assaulted by the others.  The spearman stabbed Itzal in the chest, forcing him down, and the other two swung their weapons down at him, striking him with their axes.  Then when they pulled their weapons out again, Velnia shot out of nowhere and struck the spearman, knocking him and the spear backwards.  Without the restraint, Itzal rolled to the left to avoid a blow from the shield bearer, then released Shadow Explosion on them again, successfully landing the bleed effect.  With that out of the way he leaped back again.  They reformed their formation and Itzal knew he needed to change tactics.  This wasn't working.

Itzal charged again, only this time he shot back and forth in a zig zag pattern.  During his approach however, he felt pressure on his left shoulder that was enough to knock him back.  A spear?  He saw the lizards charge forward, the spearman wielding only it's shield.  Smart he thought.  He pulled the spear out swiftly and got to his feet, but not fast enough.  The two axmen charged passed him, cutting him in the process, and the shield bearer slammed it into him.  Itzal stumbled back with his health dropping some more, but he balanced himself just as fast and countered even faster.  He slashed at the two axmen who stopped behind him, leaped to the left of the shield bearer with surprising speed and stabbed him, and threw his sword at the fourth.  Velnia kept the sword on point and even shot lightning at the spearman along with the sword.  Itzal rushed forward and pulled his sword out from the lizard man and watched the bleed effect add to their total damage.

This time it was the humanoids who charged first.  The shield bearer came at Itzal and when Itzal tried to leap to his left the bearer struck him with his sword.  And right after that Itzal was hit by one of the massive axes and ended up being knocked off balance, tumbling on the ground.  Velnia came at the shield bearer who intended to slam the bottom end of his shield into Itzal, keeping him and the ax man from doing any more to her friend.  The other ax man struck Itzal and before he could do anything else he was stabbed in the lower leg by the spear man.  He did notice that the damage wasn't as bad this time around however.  He believed he was wearing them down.  Itzal charged and released Shadow Explosion, striking at them all and Velnia struck with them, each targeting a different humanoid and then leaped back, letting bleed bring their health ever more downward.

Itzal saw their health in the red and knew that it was time.  "Velnia!  Guardian watch!"  Velnia nodded and as the four charged Itzal he saw multiple bolts of lightning strike in the form of a wall, stopping them still, and Velnia descended with incredible speed, her wings opening suddenly to stop her decent.  She roared at the four and the humanoids roared back, unafraid of her and attempted to strike her.  Itzal in the meantime opened his inventory, and switched from Niger Natio back to his Twilight Cloak, and his Beauty Incarnated switched with Skyreach.  With this he'd have good chances at getting extremely good loot.  All he needed to do was get one solid hit on them.  Still, the fact that the monsters were getting stronger and smarter was a little concerning.  He was worried at where this was leading.  How smart would they become he wondered.

Velnia saw that Itzal had finished changing gear and moved out of the way as Itzal charged forward.  The humanoids saw him approach and this time, they were ready for him.  The shield bearer leaped to the side, which surprised Itzal and he saw the spear man charge.  Itzal tried to strike but his blow was deflected by the humanoid's shield.  With that, one of the ax man swung the hilt of his weapon, causing him to trip.  As he moved through the air, the second ax man swung his weapon down at him, causing him to fall flat on the ground.  Then the spear man stabbed him, followed by the shield bearer slamming his defensive weapon into Itzal.  Velnia shot lightning at the four, causing them to move away and helped Itzal to his feet.  He grinned at his familiar.  "Thanks Velnia."

Itzal had thanked Velnia, but it cost him something.  The shield bearer rammed into Itzal but he didn't stop.  Not wanting to be trampled he held onto the shield, trying to climb to the top of it.  When he did he tried to stab the monster but at that moment he was rammed into a huge tree, now being crushed between the unmoving tree and the humanoid who wouldn't stop pushing against Itzal.  Itzal could do literally nothing against his attacker, who then proceeded to stab Itzal again and again, however Itzal had his blade there to block all of the blows.  Even though he couldn't move his sword with the immense pressure he could still move his free hand and head.  Velnia was busy trying to keep the other humanoids anywhere near Itzal and his assaulter.  She didn't have the ability to help him yet.  Thus Itzal racked his brain for things he could possibly do.  The humanoid was grinning as he continued to strike.  Then Itzal had an idea.  When the humanoid tried to stab Itzal's face, he moved his head over, letting the blade pierce the tree instead, going deep and becoming stuck.  When that happened the pressure loosened a little and Itzal was able to pull his legs up, placing his feet firmly on the shield.
