[PP:F11] Tip toe through the Window | W/ Mack

Recommended Posts

Outside of Taft the sun was high in the sky. Blue skies and white puffy clouds, a great day for a picnic or even a fun material gathering day. With courage in her heart and fire in her eyes, the young Healer stepped out of the boundary of the safe zone and into the world of material gathering! Yes! It was gonna be one of those days. The few she had asked prior to the start of the day seemed to have other plans with other people; which is fine. She could not be selfish and want them to join her all the time on these fun little expeditions of hers. Besides, she had to start to realize that she is still her own woman and no matter what, she always had to do things for herself once in awhile. No one was ever gonna just drop to the ground and help her no matter how sweetly she might ask someone...If they would hear here that is.

So! Without further annoyance of her own mind calling out to her, the woman circled her hands behind her back and began to skip outside the safe zone and into the woodland area that was not too far away. Of course she was not completely sincere in doing things for herself, oh gosh no. There was a part of adventurers not too far from her destination and she would allow them to sweep the area of mobs before even stepping into that area. A girl with no combat skills to save herself, she had to rely on others to clean out the mobs while she fancied herself a pick of the materials left behind. It was what it was.

Giant Soldier Ants 1-4: 249/515 (-266 DMG)

Having made his way up to the eleventh floor from the fourth floor earlier in the day after he had completed his daily smithing chores and closed down the Wandering Forge for the time being Mack had dropped off his familiar, Chewie, at the small guild hall that the Knights of the Blood Oath maintained in the town of Taft. There wasn't too much trouble that the little bear cub could get into within the confines of the hall, even if it did leave the grizzly a bit bored. Ordinarily, Mack might have dropped off the beastie with Piera, but he hadn't heard from the potioneer for some time and he knew that others, like Takao, had enough to be getting on with and didn't need the added burden of the rambunctious bear.

Once he was out of the town Mack set off at a good clip, and before long the bearded man found himself in a wooded area. Unsheathing Invictus and slinging the weapon up on one shoulder Mack strode forward without a care in the world. Down here on this floor, far removed from the front lines, there was little reason to think that he might encounter anything that could be truly dangerous. It did not take the cloaked giant long to find a quartet of giant ants. Holding the massive axe free and easy in his hands, Mack charged forward into the midst of the ants and delivered a series of punishing blows to the insects with several wide, sweeping strokes that reduced their health bars by just over half.

OOC: I aint got time for no shows. Moving this thread along! :D

The clash of what sounded like battle began to ring around Anemone. She stood there like a deer in headlights as she tried to decipher where in the world the sound was coming from. It had to be closer in the forest with those pesky antmen. However, it didn't sound like a rambunctious group of people clearing out the mob spawns. Anemone wondered if they needed help with healing, perhaps she could join their party or something? She was more than welcome to do things herself, but she wouldn't want to pass up the opportunity to help someone in need if they needed it.

On the other hand, she gulped out of nervousness. It could be that there was a player vs player match going on and then she would only be getting in the way. Or worse! She found her hands moving closer to her mouth with a horrified look dressed upon her face, "Orange players attacking green players!" she was so startled by her own imagination, when the breeze shot forth and blew some of the grass against her shin, she gave a small yelp and furrowed her brows at the grass quickly stomping around on it. Then there was another loud strike and a boom and she ran for the forest. When she got there, she was holding onto a tree and peering through when she caught the massive Goliath of the Blood Oaths.

"Oh! It's Vice Commander Mack, from the quest and party. I suppose he is just working on getting some materials too, though this floor is pretty low for someone of his caliber." She thought to herself outloud, but she wouldn't get in his way. She would only watch from a distance nearby a tree and gather the materials nearby. Hopefully he didn't mind it too much if she just used him as a buffer against those Ant Men and she could just pick up the scraps of materials laying about! Like those shiny stones!

Aries had been recently more and more focused on getting out of the safe zones. In the beginning, her instincts had told her to hang back and let the thousands of other players focus on beating this death game. This was most likely largely attributed to her studies in law school back in the real world. However, as news from the front lines traveled back to the rest of the community, day by day she felt the urge to join the cause.

This was her first venture alone out of the safe zones without an escort, or even a thoroughly detailed map of some sorts aiding her to the next town. She was on floor 11, which was a little high for her expertise, but she wasn't here for combat. Aries had done the math and planning to begin leveling up to catch those guys on the front lines. Instead of starting off swinging her axe at every thing and anything, Aries had decided that she would spend her time using a well established material gathering area to first upgrade her gear.

Stepping out of the safe zone, she was prepared for whatever outcome. If she were attacked, she could run or even find help on a floor as low as this, but no matter what she needed to get the materials she's came for.

Only a few hours in to it, and she had already had to run from three separate assailants. A large wasp creature had brought along with it two others, and by the time she had escaped their stingers Aries was far into an unfamiliar forest. She was lost, and honestly a little nervous. The sound of combat was heard not too far off in the distance, however, and she knew that it was her only hope. So she set off in hopes that her journey wouldn't end here- in an unfamiliar forest being killed by some sicko.

Mack, for his part, remained perfectly unaware of the fact that he was being observed by Anemone or that Aries was nearby in the forest. The battle with the giant soldier ants had been joined and that battle was absorbing all of the ginger headed man's attention at the present moment. Of course, given his energy and health levels it wasn't as if the mobs down on the eleventh floor posed all that much of a threat. Still, the Vice Commander wasn't running around down here to practice front line combat. He was after the higher tiered crafting materials that the mobs would drop when they were defeated.

No more, no less.

With a grunt the hulking soldier swung his axe over his head as the cool down timer for Explode Catapult ticked down to zero and he triggered the same sword art again. Invictus lashed out from side to side making very solid contact with each of the gigantic soldier ants that had surrounded him. By the time the attack was through all four of them had dropped down into the red zone. It wouldn't be much of a challenge to finish wiping them out.

Anemone was humming to herself, watching half of the combat ensued by the Goliath Vice Commander and half on anything suspicious in the forest. Of course she was quite well aware the fact that this surrounding could be intimidating, but with that Hulk swinging his axe around and slaying all the mobs in the area, it left little to her mind to worry. Of course, he could go into total rage mode and ... Anemone shook her head several times, why on earth would the Vice Commander want to slay a little defenseless girl? As Anemone cleared those webs of thoughts from her mind, she knelt down and collected a small pile of mushrooms that seemed to gather in one spot. Picking one from the batch, she examined and placed it in her sack and would continue on.

Of course then she heard the quiet break of leaves and twigs snapping underfoot. Anemone gulped, was she being watched as well? She had turned her head and her bright red eyes caught glimpse of another woman in the forest. She looked lost? Or perhaps that was just some kind of ruse. Anemone was beyond cautious but if the woman needed help, perhaps Anemone could do something. Balling her hand into a fist and relaxing her fingers. She would walk up to her an address her, "Good afternoon, are you lost? Please tell me you are lost and not some crazed psycho killer or something..." Anemone's voice was small and meekish, quiet and barely heard when she did. But it was loud enough over the cleaving sound of the axe and the grinding of the Ant Soldiers from beyond the combat zone. She didn't look...threatening? @HighNoonMich

Upon finally reaching the sounds of combat, Aries' eyes were met with a hulking large man grinding ant mobs to dust. Dear god, his level was well beyond hers and well above this floor. Why would one be down here, she began to think.

Before she could finish that thought, she was startled by the voice of another- an unassuming girl.

"No no! I'm no threat!", she screamed out as she held her hand to her chest.

Taking a breath, Aries composed herself and realized that she'd just been scared half to death by one of the sweetest looking players she's seen in Aincrad.

"... oh. I'm sorry. I- err- you startled me! Yes I'm lost. I have no clue where I'm at, and I definitely am not strong enough to be out here alone. Oh this was a huge mistake."

The large warrior must have been her body guard. The last thing that Aries wanted was to come off threatening to her if that were the case, so Aries put both hands up to about her chest height to signify that she was empty handed and had no bad intentions.

Still focused on the combat with the insects, as he was, Mack paid little to no mind towards Aries and Anemone. He also paid little to no attention to the attacks of the giant soldier ants. Even though the gigantic insects had, at last, succeeded in landing a few hits against his armor. As the pincers of the insects pierced his body at various points the Vice Commander merely snarled and drew back Invictus. With a growl, he exploded forward and slammed his shoulder into the ant directly in front of him. The insect shattered into blue pixels. With a few more sweeps of the colossal axe in his hands the remaining ants were, likewise, reduced to their digital components and Mack set about collecting the crafting materials and col that the beasties had dropped, his grey eyes sweeping the area to take in Anemone and Aries for the first time.

"Oh goodness! I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to sneak up on you like that. It is quite unfortunate that you are lost. And you seem sincere enough, but..." It would be a total waste if Anemone had stopped to lead the woman out of the forest. She looked around and heard the ending of the battle where Mack had decimated the Soldier Ants. "Ah!" when his towering figure had looked over, Anemone gave a wide sweeping wave, "That's Vice Commander Mack of the Knights of the Blood Oath. I am sure he'll help us. Oh my manners, forgive me. My name is Anemone." Anemone gestured the woman to follow her as she lead the duo towards the Grizzly looking Knight with red hair. "Good afternoon, Sir Mack. It's another beautiful day, wouldn't you say so?" She asked, only mildly tripping over her words this time instead acting like a total goofball.

"This woman seems to be lost and unfortunately as you know, all I have are Support skills. Would it be too much to ask if we stuck around you until you headed back to the main settlement? I still have some materials to collect out here and I don't think I would be able to help this girl out if things got dicey. If not, I am sure I can think of something..." She wouldn't want to unload all her problems on the Vice Commander, perhaps she can strike a deal with Goliath VC.

"How about I help you find a dungeon around here. If I find anything in particular, I'll send you the map and data of the location in return for your services. I can also heal your wounds in battle as well." With her hands exposed to the air. A light breeze came washing over them, glowing green for a moment till a full golden aura like enchantment collapsed around Mack, healing him for a decent chunk of his lost HP. @HighNoonMich @Mack

Aries extended her arm out to shake hands with Anemone, but then quickly withdrew it. American traditions from the real world were still hard to break for her. Giving a formal bow, Aires replied, "The name is Aries... Thank you."

As she was led towards vice commander Mack, Aries' eyes began to grow wide at the sight of all the materials laying around. Were both of the players hunting around for materials too? Maybe if Aries had something to offer they would help her, she thought.

Anemone had asked what was already on Aries' mind. A guardian would be useful, even if it did make her feel as if she were weak.

"Hello- nice to meet you both, truly.", she said. "... I am lost, but I got lost looking for materials. I don't really know what I'm doing, but I do know that if I want to be stronger then I have to start somewhere."

Oh no. Was that too much information? Too little? Was she coming off pushy or abrasive or- dangit!

"I would appreciate it Sir Mack, if I could hang around you two for the time being.", Aries retorted, attempting not to sound too pushy.

37/102 EN (+1 Out of Battle)

The burly Vice Commander stood up from where he had been kneeling on the ground and gather materials and col from the fallen soldier ants that he had just vanquished, his right hand wrapped around the haft of the axe Invictus which was, quite likely, taller than either Anemone or Aries. In the hands of a shorter warrior the weapon would have been more akin to a pole arm than an axe. The towering man in the crimson trimmed snow white cloak of the Knights of the Blood Oath leaned his forearms across the dull top of the bladed axe head and squinted at his health gauge as the bar instantly refilled itself. Anemone's doing, no doubt.

"You can drop the sir stuff," the axe man rumbled in a low tone after a moment's thought as he considered Anemone's words. Not that there was much to consider. Of course he would shepherd them around the floor for a bit, it was what a knight did.If they came across a mini-dungeon in the process so much the better. "Only officers care about being called sir," the soldier continued, betraying a bit of his real life experience to the two women. "I'll need a minute to recover the energy bar."

As they were speaking a small, scruffy form was shimmying backwards down a nearby tree. When the bear cub reached the ground he tucked into a ball and went rolling through the grass. The tall grass rippled and swayed, just like it did in the Jurassic Park movies when the velociraptors were running around. Within a few seconds a brown bowling ball of fur flopped out into a ruff approximation of a rug right between the three players. Chewie then opened his mouth and pointed to it with one clawed toe.

Anemone had chewed on her lower lip thinking about what Mack had said about how only officers cared about being called Sir, wasn't a Vice Commander an officer type of person? She was perplexed, but the rough trotting and shenanigan blitzing bear cub known as Chewie had found himself in center stage up to his old clever antics again. The brown mass of fur and muscle pointed to his open mouth declaring some food items to stuff its face with. Anemone had finished preparing a juicy steak in her shop prior the engagement and she was able to successfully salvage part of it to keep for herself. Opening her menu and tossing the good item into the mouth of the bear cub.

"That's Chewie, he is Si-oh! Umm, Vice Commander Mack's familiar. He's just a goofball." Anemone said towards the now introduced Aries. She gave a warm smile, "Thank you Mack. You are such a pal," still smiling the woman nodded her head at the mention of his energy needing to be refilled, "Oh. So you say. Well, if you ever need some recovery items Mack, I have a shop on Floor Seventeen that might help with that. I can make some pretty decent M.E.A.Ls," she said eyeing the brown bear cub with her bright red eyes. Unless it was smart enough to understand spelling that is, then it might trigger another begging attempt. The woman rolled her bright fire engine red eyes at the Vice Commander, "Then we have a deal! Even if I don't find a dungeon for you, I am sure I might be able to find one later. If I find any good map data, I'll send the coordinates to you directly."

That wasn't so difficult now? The woman had thought it might be exasperating to talk as much as she did. In fact she was feeling a little dizzy from it all, but she waved her hand at her face to cool herself off and looked around the shaded area. Right where Chewie was, there was a nice glowing rock. Kneeling down and scooping it off the ground, she cleaned it off and put it in her satchel which was carried off into her inventory. @HighNoonMich

As soon as the steak appeared in Anemone's hands Chewie was immediately on his feet. The cub licked his lips and his eyes greedily followed the progress of the delectable meaty treat as his nose sniffed at the air. The cub leaped up and took a swipe with his paws, but missed and thudded back to the ground. Then he opened his mouth and waited. That steak was a treat for him, he knew it had to be for him, who else could possibly want to eat steak? Nobody, that was who. Then the steak was placed in his mouth. Heaven! Chewie flopped onto his back and began to rip into the steak, flecks of meat flying in all directions until only the t-bone was left. Clinching it in his teeth the cub ran around and, occasionally, paused to gnaw on the bone.

"Just don't give the little beast any alcohol, as you can see he's a miner," the Vice Commander remarked dryly, considering the other parts of Anemone's speech for a moment. "I could always use all kinds of support items, as could the rest of the Knights," he rumbled after a moment's thought, rooting around in the dirt with the end of Invictus' haft until he heard a thunk. Kneeling, the bulky man extracted a hunk of iron ore and added it to his inventory. "Another couple of seconds and then we can move off to find some more monsters to deal with," Mack said, resuming his leaning posture on his weapon.

Chewie seemed more than happy with his treat setting off a set of giggles from the snow colored woman. Bright eyes looked over to Mack as she nodded, "Oh dear. If there are others as big as you are in the Guild, I think you'd all eat all my stock. But that is why I am out here..." She has said with a slight cheer in her voice. She was absolutely horrible with conversation especially someone so Large and Intimidating. She had taken a step backwards when Mack used his axe as a means to dig out a rather neat looking stone. Anemone shuffled her feet across the location where she was to peer through the tall grass to find anything suitable, "Oh, that is quite alright. Please take your time, Mack. I am in no rush." Well that was only half right, she could trust the Vice Commander, but she couldn't quite trust herself when it came to the darkness and being in it out of the safezone. She could do without that sort of anxiety and she had been pretty good about making it back to the crowded settlements before the moon was high.

"Well, I am not quite spectacular when it comes to being in Combat, I have never even touched a weapon before. Goodness, I don't think I could ever hurt something and not feel bad about it. I understand this game is just a bunch of data, but other people in it like you and I." the woman shook her head, "It makes me sad to think that people can turn into such monsters. But even then, I believe in second chances from people. We all have to stick together here, right?"

Chewie scampered about in the small field, his jaws still locked onto the t-bone from the steak. Woe be to anyone that thought they could take the chew toy away from the bear cub. The grizzly cub ran around in circles with the treat until he tripped over his own over large paws and flopped onto his back with a soft thud in the grass. Growling he held the bone between his front paws and chomped on it greedily with flashes of teeth and claws until the bone, rather abruptly, ran out of durability points and shattered into a shower of pixels which left the bear chomping on nothing but air. Scowling, the bear rolled back to his feet and began looking around on the ground for the lost bone.

"We have a few players that are pretty big, but I think I'm the biggest of the bunch," Mack rumbled, rubbing the back of his neck with a free hand as he leaned his other arm atop the axe Invictus. "As for the fighting, I've got no problems killing system generated monsters or even dueling with other players for fun. I'd even fight another player outside of a duel, if I needed to in order to protect someone else," the towering man shrugged his massive shoulders and pulled his axe from the ground, settling it against one shoulder. "And everyone may deserve a second chance, but that doesn't mean that everyone wants one."

"Chewie," the big man barked and the bear's head shot up in his direction. "Stop crying about the bone, you ate it. If you want to stuff your face, go find a bee hive." The bear cub made a crude one toed gesture, its meaning clear, though where he had picked it was anyone's guess. Probably from Ssendom, it seemed the thing that Ssendom would have done. Probably Ssendom had taught Chewie to do such a thing by giving the cub treats every time he did it.

"I have a foul footed familiar," Mack sighed as the bear scampered off, eyes looking up into the trees for a bee hive. "Ssendom taught him that, it must have been Ssendom," the Vice Commander muttered before turning back to Anemone. "I'm ready to move out if you are."

Her bright fire red eyes seemed to fizzle out from the intensity they once had as Mack made a comment on those not wanting second chances. She bit her lower lip pondering on that for a moment. The crazy antics of the bear cub and the bone had even diluted some of her attention as she was more so brought upon some odd feelings. Chewing still on her bottom lip, her eyes focused on Mack again as he called out for his familiar. A scene unfolded where Anemone had blinked several times smile and giggling at the two and brushing the hair from her face. Those two were a crazy bunch, and she shifted bringing her hands up to mouth and stared at Mack.

She had no idea the bear cub had learned such a crude gesture or even if it understood what it was doing. It was a shameful act and the player named Ssendom had been conjured. She had never heard of this person but he sounded like real charmer doing something so barbaric as teaching a familiar how to do something like that. She still laughed though through her hands with a mild giggle trailing out. She shook her head and nodded to Mack as she picked up a rather crude looking stone, but something worthy of note to it.

"I am quite ready when you are, Mack. Please lead the way." @Mack

As the group set off through the forest, the occasional golden ray of sunshine lancing down from the heaven's above through the leafy canopy Chewie ranged somewhat away from the group. Occasionally a flash of fur would be seen out front, sometimes the telltale snapping sound of a breaking twig or even sapling tree would be heard from another direction. Once, even, there was a colossal splash from somewhere to the right, no doubt the exuberant cub's doing. As the group came up on another clearing the grizzly looked up and his large brown eyes grew to the size of saucers. Master had led them to a honey tree, or at least a tree with a bee's nest in it. In seconds, Chewie was working on scrambling up the tree trunk.

At the sounds of the bear climbing Mack craned his head around, spotting the bear half way up a tree. Looking a little higher, the Vice Commander's grey eyes came to rest on the bee hive. Chewie was, probably, in for a rude awakening when he disturbed that thing. Oh well, the cub had to learn some time. Gazing back into the clearing the soldier's gaze swept across another grouping of giant soldier ants. Tightening his grip on Invictus, Mack went tearing across the distance as he activated the charge skill before whirling the enormous axe as if it were a prop weapon before slamming it into each of the ants in in turn and taking away roughly half of each of their health bars.

Anemone had kept quiet when the started off once more. Her pale hands had been locked behind her back as she laced her fingers together. Her red eyes looked forward out towards Mack and their soon to be destination. The bear cub, Chewie, seemed to be making enough of a ruckus dashing here and there leading himself in a zig zag amount of directions. SHe had spotted thr brown ball of mass and fur and something had his attention. Her eyes squinted to see what it was doing, "Ugh...should he be doing that?" she said pointing to the bear cub as he was climbing a rather large tree. The woman shook her head, he was a bear of course, those instincts were probably pretty natural for them to climb trees like that. She only imagined a certain stuffed Pooh bear doing the same thing, looking for honey and finding many bees waiting.

She chuckled to herself at the crazy antics of the familiar before her attention was brought upon the movement of the Vice Commander. Swinging his weapon around and sweeping it across several species of ant soldiers, the woman had stayed her distance. If Mack needed help, a little bit of healing, she could easily catch up for the combat. Until then, she would let the Vice Commander work and she would scour the grounds for anything of important to add to her little satchel around her shoulder.

Chewie continued to shimmy his way up the enormous tree, his chocolate brown eyes greedily fixed on the prize in the uppermost branches of the tree. That was a bee hive. Everyone knew that. Determinedly, paw over claw, the cub climbed up the tree, tongue lolling slightly out of his mouth and to one side. Bee hives had honey. Chewie liked honey and wanted to eat honey. It was as simple as that. Reaching the branch where the hive was located, the bear perched himself on the branch and began slithering out along it, eyes on the prize.

"These bugs aren't much of a challenge," Mack called to Anemone, tightening his grip on Invictus. The ants launched their assaults, one by one. It might have even been said that, since they were soldier ants, they went marching one by one to attack. Each of the gigantic ants, in turn, failed to land a solid blow on the Vice Commander. Grunting, Mack scythed the enormous axe in his hands back and forth, bringing each of the ants down to just the barest sliver of health in their health bars.

Anemone winced as she watched Chewie, the bear cub, dance up to the top of the tree and shimmy himself towards that beehive. She hope he wouldn't be in too much trouble or to anger all those bees within the hive. She blinked out of necessity as she watched Mack cleave his way through the Marching Ants as they attempted to strike him down. One by one did his swing come in and destroy another portion of their HP pools. Clearly he had the situation under control, that was good enough for her. Sweeping a hand over her shoulder to move the coily, springy hair from her face. The woman smiled and sat on the ground picking up a singular harvest of what appeared to be a common, but very healthy edible apple. She tucked it away into her satchel and moved on to the next node while keeping an eye on Mack's health. Surely, he would have no other problems here.

"Despite the odd rumors I have heard about the Knights of the Blood Oath, I have seen your guild members do some pretty positive things so far." She said to stir up some light conversation, she didn't want to interrupt him if he were busy with those ant soldiers so she kept her comment towards more smaller statement than anything else, "A few of your members have helped me in certain quests and I am eternally grateful to them." @Mack
