Endilix stood in the familiar plains of the First Floor, feeling the light breeze wash over him and his armor. Lightly, his cloak swayed in the wind, occasionally flapping enough to reveal his two hammers hanging on his waist. "A beautiful day for a hunt, I think," he had muttered to himself, as he looked to the sky. He had messaged both Flints and Emerath to meet him at his coordinates. He had told Flints they would be hunting dragons, and Emerath that they were checking off another quest on the list. Both points he knew they'd appreciate. For Endilix? He just wanted to take on a major challenge. And in any other game, anything involving dragons meant glory. His hand rested on the head of one of his hammers as he waited, staring at the boars that roamed the plains and the other adventurers that ran around, chasing them. Ah, what life had once been.

Flints rolled over from her slumber from the sound of her noifications pinging. groaning she swatted at the rest of the bed that she so happened to have stolen from Emerath. after their last meeting she admitted to him that she didnt want to go far from the brothers and promply followed him home, not that she wouldnt want to stay with Endilix, but she felt like it might have been a tad awkward for them both, thats if he even stayed home.  Looking up at her inbox she gave a sigh there wasnt really anything in the message other than coordanates. Before she could get comfy again Flints threw herself out of bed equipped her armor, a mix of the slick, tight anphibian suit and newly equipped Hephaestus Armour, taking the place of her wolf mother armor, being more gladiator like than anything she had seen in Aincrad. stretching out flints groaned again, and gently nudged Antilian from his slumber as she made her way out of the house and towards whatever strange adventure Endilix had in store for her.

Emerath was jolted awake by a notification from his messages beeping in his ears. He had fallen asleep in the chair in his foyer after Flints had decided to stay the night with him. Not wanting to be rude, he allowed it, mostly because he was used to sleeping in his chair anyway. He rubbed an eye sleepily as he looked at his messages. He hadn't been expecting to go on any adventures today, but it seemed as if Endilix had other plans in mind. He gave a stretch, as he heard Flints shuffling out of his room and to the door, her pup right behind her. She left without so much as a word, no doubt receiving a similar message from Endilix. "Endilix must have neglected to mention that we were all going together," he mumbled to himself as he pushed himself from the chair and yawned involuntarily.

Moving quickly so that he could catch up to Flints, he pressed a few buttons on his equipment to put on all of his gear and his plague doctor outfit, before whistling for Mist and heading out the door. The owl gave a sleepy hoot and flew to his shoulder as he walked out and locked the door, calling for Flints to wait up as he ran after her.

Flints gasped as the cold air hit her olive skin, a jolt ran through her as she huffed “how could Tristan even wear this? Ever?! It’s definitely meant for warmer floors” she hissed at the unexpected amount of skin that was exposed before turning to Emerath who made his way through the snow towards her. She felt her cheeks warm from knowing that Emerath was back by her side. “How did you sleep last night? I kind of wished you were a cuddler, I could have used the warmth!” She playfully prodded at the man as she lead the way to the teleport area, shouting out for the first floor. In the blink of an eye both appeared in the first floor, the large starting city that most players still hung out in despite the progress the frontlines had made. a place she was very familiar with. Staring intensely at her hub she zigged around, occasionally glancing back at the little group made up of Emerath, Mist, and Antilian. “Ah there’s your brother!” She shouted, more excitedly than she realized she had. Running up a small hill she pounced him, trying her best to catch him off guard. “Surrender everything you own to me!! Or your life is mine~ “ she growled hoping she had got the jump on the hopefully unsuspecting knight.

Endilix hadn't been expecting Flints at all, and as she came up behind him he instantly sprung into action. As the woman grabbed onto him he ripped his Crippler from its holster and made his best attempt to throw her over his shoulder, before recognizing the voice that shouted at him.

With a heavy sigh he pulled her hands from his body and stepped away and turned around with a stern look on his face. "This game is too dangerous for that sort of nonsense. What if I had attacked you? Sure, I wouldn't have killed you, but I would still be orange. Then we'd have to deal with people thinking they can take me down until it turns green again." He slid Crippler back into its holster and pulled his cloak back over his arm. He saw Emerath and the animals were just behind Flints and said, "Anyway, the plan today is to hunt dragons. Are you both up for it?"

Flints had gone limp on Endilix’s back after her growling in attempt to startle him, which she managed to do she realized soon after he ripped at her to get her off of him. She didn’t struggle or fight him, but her heart skipped a little when he went for his weapon, she knew better than to act this way with most players but she forgot just how dangerous this place was, blinking slowly and sliding off his back she couldn’t hide the sad frown that spread across her face, quickly turning away from Endilix but once she realized Emerath was still behind her she settled for looking away from them both to hide her emotions.

“I’m sorry..” she muttered as Antilian sauntered past her to snarl at Endilix only to turn back to Flints and lean his head on against her ribs, whining quietly in protest. “Well if we weren’t we wouldn’t be here would we?”  Flints spat. Maybe she had wished Endilix was more welcoming to her, even if she was basically attacking him, things are different now, she looked up to the sky and took a deep breath trying her best to convince herself that things were different, no matter how she felt.

Emerath had watched the entire scene play out in front of him with a bit of a shocked expression beneath his mask. Flints was showing Endilix affection, and Endilix had nearly attacked her as if she were a PvP happy orange player. He kept his mouth shut as Endilix gave Flints a thorough verbal thrashing, and sighed as poor Flints couldn't seem to face either of the brothers. Emerath came up behind Flints and put his hands on her shoulders, his mask keeping his gaze on Endilix. "That was a bit uncalled for, I think. Sure, she surprised you, but have you really become so cold that we can't even have a bit of fun anymore? How much has this death game changed you, brother?"

Absentmindedly Emerath rubbed Flints' shoulders and then gave Antillian a pat to calm him down. "It's all okay. Everyone is okay. No harm no foul."

Endilix scowled at Endilix's words after Flints' apology and affirmation. "You sat in the dark for so long, Emerath. You weren't out here in the world like I was. You didn't watch people die. Kids, innocents, even criminals. Dead. Actual people, dead. Forgive me for not wanting to join them."

Sadness burned at Endilix's eyes as the emotion threatened to overtake him. Through all this time alone, he had never figured out what a hero was. He had thought it was someone who protected others, but Flints had made him realize that it wasn't that simple, and then they had parted again. He had never found the answer, and now his heart had apparently turned to stone. "Flints, I'm sorry. Lets... let's get this quest done. Thank you for coming, both of you."

Endilix left those words hanging in the air as he turned and walked into the forest, hoping that his companions wouldn't abandon him now. His right hand gripped his hammer's head, his knuckles turning white beneath his cloak. The question he asked himself every day since he had saved Razum-dar rang through his head. What makes a man a hero when he can't protect everyone?

Looking back to Emerath and his get up she relaxed a little, his gentle rubbing coaxed her into calming down and absentmindedly leaning Into his hand. Endilix’s words stung, he had changed. He wasn’t the little goofball with a big heart that she remembered. Sure, she had changed too, but it took her a long time to realize that what she had become wasn’t healthy for her. She had to learn to be herself again, it was all a pick and choose in the end. And from what she can see, Endilix’s wasn’t doing either. There was no mental compromise with himself, just the need to defend, it was as if he was on some strange autopilot. Regardless she gave a small nod and followed him. If anything she didn’t trust him as much. And from Antilian now walking between them instead of behind she could tell where his trust lies in the group. Flints gave a small sigh and couldn’t help but side with the wolf, at least she knew she was strong enough to hold her own if it came to that.

Emerath was more than a little concerned by the sudden shift in mood of the group. One moment everyone was having a good time, it was a bright sunny morning, and him and Flints had spent the time getting to Endilix with the animals enjoying the company. Now, it was as if a rope had been tied to the party and they were being dragged along forcefully by Emerath's twin. He could see the tension in Antillian's muscles as he walked, the creature's hair standing on end. Even Mist seemed to be closer to Emerath than usual, her feathers brushing against his mask as he walked. Everyone was a bit ruffled by the outburst, and nobody really knew how to handle it. How to handle Endilix. This wasn't the man who had come to Emerath asking for help. This was a man who was scarred by seeing other people die.

All Emerath could really do was stay close to Flints and Antillian in this moment. He would have to consider how best to dismantle this changed Endilix as they finished the quest.

Endilix glanced behind him as they walked, looking at the pup who now walked between him and Flints, and Flints' on guard nature. Even Emerath, masked as he was, seemed on edge. It just figured, Endilix had almost attacked Flints for what should have been a playful gesture. He wound his way into the forest, looking for the dragon that would be their quest for the day, not wanting to cause any further disturbances in the party. Finally, they reached a clearing, where there appeared to be a dragon egg. Endilix stopped, and held a hand out to indicate that the others should stop as well, before pulling his Crippler from its sheath. "Look there, the creature's egg."

Endilix took another careful step into the clearing. It was a perfectly round area cut out of the trees, and yet despite this the leaves still shaded the area almost entirely. Branches and twigs covered the area leading up to the nest, as if the forest had been forcefully removed to make way for this hatchling, and Endilix snapped a few twigs as he creeped closer to the egg. "It appears that the dragon hasn't hatched yet. I don't know if it counts if we just smash the egg. I feel like it doesn't. Make sure you guys are ready for battle. Despite it being a hatchling, it is still a dragon."

Flints eyes shifted between watching Endilix, and watching the forest around them, the warmth of the sun gleaming through the leaves and branches were a welcome feeling against Flints’ Skin, the air around the party was filled with an electricity Flints couldn’t quite place, it was uncomfortable.

Flints snapped from her thoughts when Endilix pointed out a clearing in the forest, where a large egg rested at its center, nestled in a burned clearing, the forest seemed to heal around the egg, burned and scarred trees made their way around the clearing, avoiding more injury from the beast that was no longer there. “Smash it?!” Flints growled, she understood that this was their mission, but what if it wasn’t? What if it was the parent they were after? They would have smashed an egg for nothing? Shaking her head she climbed into the nest, pressing her hand against the hard white shell that stuck out amongst the nest. Looking back at Emerath to gauge his reaction to his brothers words she signed. It was a game after all. “Alright then. Smash it.” She looked to Endilix after taking her hand off the egg and crossing her arms beneath her chest and waiting for whatever was to come next.

Endilix watched the egg carefully as Flints spoke, but it wasn't until she placed her hand on the egg that it started to move. As Flints backed away, suddenly the egg began to shake even more, before violently ripping open in front of them, an emerald face with reptilian eyes staring out at them from the hole created. Endilix shouted for the others to, "Get back!" as the remainder of the dragon erupted from the egg. As it sprawled out it dripped with a strange goo, and rose to about the size of a horse in front of Endilix and the others. Endilix stared at it, but already had himself ready as he shouted at the dragon. "Hey, over here little guy! Let's dance!" Endilix said as he slammed his hammer against the hard cover of his pumpkin shield. He backed out of the nest to give them some more fighting room as the dragon lithely stepped over all the debris and the nest edge, taking a keen interest in the knight, but not yet attacking.

Flints growled from the sound of Endilix banging on his shield like a barbarian. Typical tank loud and flashy. Shaking her head she snapped her fingers to send Antilian into his howl as she ran towards the beast, trying her best to ignore the fact that it had just started it’s life, only to be slaughtered by them. It didn’t matter, this was a game they had to win, or die trying, that was the point of it all, not to make friends or enemies. Quickly flints leaped into a barrage of quick stabs to its side, causing the hatchling to wail in pain, in response Flints jumped up and smacked the poor brood with her spears head before pulling away and panting, it was odd how thick the scales on the beast were, for being brand new to life it certainly was armed for battle. “Let’s end this quickly!” She hissed, satisfied with her attack.

Emerath had watched the scene unfold in relative silence as Endilix and Flints had both climbed into the nest, something Emerath normally would have advised against had it not been something that would fall on deaf ears. He folded his arms, and the mask hid his annoyance at the two for their brash natures, though Emerath was fully aware that neither was in any real danger in this moment, and realistically wouldn't be in any danger even if they were attacked. This was the lowest quest in this chain, recommended for beginners. It was a chain Emerath recognized, though he hadn't expected that Endilix would make the first move in recommending it to them.

Needless to say, Emerath was hardly surprised when the egg cracked open and the dragon came out. Something that, again, he probably would have mentioned if it would have actually mattered. But it didn't, as Endilix made himself a target, and Flints snapped into action, cutting the dragon's tough scales into ribbons, Emerath did his part. Despite the relative ease and lack of danger, he still didn't want to see his brother hurt, and so as Flints cleared herself from the creature, Emerath ran forward, leaping for the creature's throat.

Emerath jumped into the air, and managed to land on the small dragon's back, before forming a knife hand and chopping the creature hard in a spot where the scales seemed to give more easily. The creature roared and shook the man off as only a sliver of health dropped from its bar. But Emerath couldn't help but smile as the creature did nothing but continue to give a scream most likely only capable by a newborn who didn't fully understand more than the instincts of eating what was directly in front of it. The creature didn't move, as Emerath pushed himself up from the ground and readied his stance once more.

Endilix knew that once combat started, everyone would jump into action. It was as it always was. Flints would tear the enemy apart before it knew what would hit it, Emerath would be the utility knife, doing whatever he needed to in the moment, and Endilix would take the smack to the face. But Emerath surprised his brother, and rather than simply dishing out the damage, he stunned their opponent, giving Endilix a reprieve. Although, with Endilix not being any kind of a damage dealer, he was just standing there like nothing more than a glorified target dummy.

Slowly, Rhaegal came back to its senses, but by that point it was too late. He had missed his chance to take his swing at Endilix, and Endilix had had plenty of time to concentrate on the screaming dragon to get a good smack in. His hammer glowed a solid crimson as he let out a battle cry and smacked the dragon square in the snout. The creature reeled despite its HP only dropping a sliver due to its tough scales. That and Endilix did no damage, but he accepted this fact. His point was to keep the creature on him, and sure enough the dragon gave an angry squeal and slithered back to Endilix, growling.

Endilix smiled and held his shield up, "That's right, you big baby. Just stand still so my friends can dismantle you."

Flints watched as the two brothers worked  in harmony, it was almost beautiful, but despite their fancy footwork they couldnt really get past the scales of the beast. Taking a chance Flints tried her best to spear the dragon, but as their battle went on the brood grew wiser, almost cocky. Quickly whipping it’s body away from the spear Rhaegal snapped at the spear head and roared loudly into the sky above, shreaking for help that probably would never come. Flints almost felt bad for it. She was trying her best to kill it quickly, if it was just Emerath and Endilix it would be basically tortured to death with the fury of 1000 cuts. “I can’t help end the suffering if you don’t let me hit you..” she growled out to it, as if it would understand her, or actually want her to put it out of its misery.

Emerath watched as the small dragon began to learn their movements, even after only one attach each. It had sidestepped Flints, and so Emerath tried to send Mist in as a distraction to get the creature to sit still long enough to connect with his own blows. But it had been of no use. The dragon was too fixated on Endilix to notice the bird, but still had enough awareness to make Emerath's kicks go wide, leaving him hitting nothing but air. Mist hooted as she circled around and Emerath called her back to him and gave her some corn from his pocket for a good attempt, before watching the dragon prepare its attack. All Emerath could really do was hope that Endilix was ready for it as Emerath got back into a fighting stance and prepared for his own next strike. Provided the dragon lived that long. Though if it was learning their moves, even just instinctively, their job was about to get that much more difficult.

Endilix had watched the dragon sidestep the attacks of his party members, even going so far as to completely ignore Mist. "You little runt. Playing hard to get now, eh? I guess you didn't like us beating you up a little." The dragon gave a roar in response and looked down at the man holding up his shield. In a flash, the serpentine beast had ripped its fangs into Endilix's shield and arm, before tearing away his defense and clawing the man in the chest. Endilix gasped in surprise as the beast easily dismantled his defenses, clearly being far more upset than Endilix had imagined. The knight staggered and managed to keep a hold of his shield despite the beast's onslaught. "You sly little..." he said, as he huffed. The actual attack hadn't done a ton of damage, but it was more than Endilix was used to taking.

He quickly readied his hammer in retaliation, but the beast reared up and dodged the attack, before giving a low snarl and another roar for good measure. "Alright then, you win this round. Let's go again." Endilix said, with some bravado.

Flints gave a small gasp as she watched the dragon tear into Endilix, he could take it but still it was certainly a sight, it was getting stronger, Faster. Flints shouted angrily trying to gain its attention but to no avail, it had tunnel vision for Endilix. As she went to pierce it’s flank the beast simply wrapped its tail around her spear and pushed her out of its way, not bothering to attack but simply to deflect Flints, as if she want worthy of an actual attack. Flints called Antilian to her side to help her up before turning to Emerath, her face more panicked by the fact that she could no longer hit it. If this kept up they wouldn’t have a tank to defend them for much longer. Flints wanted to cheer on Endilix but it just didn’t feel appropriate. She wasn’t really sure what held her back, maybe it was their recent argument.
