[F01- PP] Slaying Monsters- with Friends! <<The Second Lesson, Is Also Free>>

Recommended Posts

Cosi, tired as he could be, tried to quickly scramble to his feet before the boar barreled into him again. He had only gotten to his knees when he heard the thunderous sound of hooves on earth. As a complete reaction Cosi rolled to the side while simultaneously striking out with his sword. And again the boar was too fast. The animal was well past Cosi by the time he swung his sword so, as Cosi nearly fell over when his sword didn't meet resistance, the boar turned around to begin another charge. Cosi cursed his luck- the good and the bad- cause while he couldn't hit the boar it seemed that the boar couldn't hit him. Cosi dropped his sword arm, tired beyond belief, and slowly rose. Time to do this again, Cosi thought to himself, hopefully Katagawa is doing better. He turned to her, "Hey! how's that boar coming? We going to have pork chops any time soon?!" He chuckled then turned back to his priority.

Hokori gave a swing of her sword at the boar as it began to charge at her. Though she was able to hit the boar with her sword and make a gash in it, it ended up crashing into her with its side and knocked her over. She quickly pushed the weight off of herself, and quickly maneuvered around to make sure she was in view of Cosi's fight as well. If it wasn't going to take advantage of her being down on intel, she would just have to change the tables.

"I think I'm doing slightly better than you. And if you want pork chops, you won't find them here. Go to floor 7 or something, there's probably a player run shop that can give them to you."

She wasn't in the mood for witticisms at the moment, as much as she could enjoy them in a social situation. This wasn't exactly like sitting around in a college dorm playing the newest fighting game though. Now things were life and death, with no way of knowing what could be the thing that ends your life.

"Oh I bet there is," Cosi shouted back, "Though they probably only serve toast or something" Cosi turned back just in time to see his boar charging headlong at him so Cosi dove out of the way. He struggled to get up- who knew wearing armor and fighting monsters would be so exhausting- but managed to do so. He was so tired that he couldn't even throw a proper cut at the boar. But thank goodness for gravity because somehow- thank the Random Number Gods- his oberhau sliced through the boar's shoulder. If this had been real it would've definitely severed tendons and muscles but this was Aincrad so only crimson red lines of code swirled about in the wound.

Alas while the blow was damaging it seemed to only serve to make the boar madder. It bellowed in rage and began to charge right at Cosi, its eyes redder than the code in its wounds.

Hokori listened to Cosi as she kept an eye on the boar in front of her. "I bet you could still find something close to pork chops. I bet you anything they serve a good steak." Not wanting the conversation to distrct her too much, she quickly brought her sword in front of her and prepared to heft it at the boar once more. It tried to charge her down, but she managed to sidestep it and get another gash in its side. Though she was trapped in between the two boars again, her boar seemed to be getting quite winded from her attacks. One more may finish him off. She hoped Cosi could hold out long enough that she could start to help him take down his own boar. These things weren't as tough as they originally seemed, guess it just took a few tries to take them down.

Cosi was too tired to actually dodge out of the way of the rampaging boar. Guess I'll just be tanking a boar to the face, he thought to himself. Then he had a wonderful idea, a simply terrible idea, but it was better than getting hit by five hundred pounds of boar muscle. Cosi smirked to himself.

Right as the boar collided with Cosi he shifted his weight, trying to absorb as much of the force as he could. Then before he was thrown off his feet, Cosi grabbed onto one of tusks and used it as an anchor to throw himself onto the boar's back. Cosi instantly regretted his decision. He was now on top of a charging boar. For good measure Cosi smashed his gauntlet into the boar's head. Then he held on for dear life and switched to a hammer grip. Then slammed the blade into the boar's head. The boar squealed in pain and tried to buck Cosi off, who gripped the bristly hide with both hands his sword barely clutched in his right.

Hokori heard an extra loud squeal coming from behind her and turned to see Cosi riding on top of the boar. Becoming quite worried, she quickly went over and dealt the killing blow to her boar, dismissing the rewards screen without even looking at it. "Got my boar, I'm coming to help Cosi. Try not to fall off, but make sure to roll if you do." She had done some horse riding on a whim while in college, and vaguely remembered some of those lessons. It had been a while and riding a wild boar would be quite a bit different, so the lessons may be for nothing. They were meant to deal with the horse going crazy though, so hopefully they would still be useful. She prepared to go for a strike, but try and make one from the side. She couldn't risk hitting Cosi, but needed to quickly take the boar out.

"Th-th-than-thank y-you!" Cosi's teeth chattered in his skull as he struggled to keep a hold on his new mount, his new, extra angry, extra prickly mount. Cosi gripped his sword tight and tried to stab the boar again. It was nearly impossible to do that while riding the boar and holding on with his other but he managed to do so. The sword sank half way up its blade into the boar's neck. The boar bellowed in pain and bucked. Cosi left his sword still embedded in the boar- that was probably really uncomfortable- and hung with both hands. This had been a terrible, terrible idea. Cosi was going to fall off at any second and while he would roll as Katagawa suggested thst wouldn't protect him from the raging boar and how it would mostly trample him to death. That would be both unpleasant for Cosi and bad for Cosi's health. So he held on to the thick hair and tried not to die in any way shape or form, cause dying wasn't fun.

Hokori didn't want to risk hitting Cosi, but knew he was going to get thrown off pretty soon anyways. She knew she likely couldn't yell at the boar to draw its attention, so she decided to get its attention through pain. She followed its path and began to get an interception route. Letting the boar come to her, she quickly stabbed it through the snout, bringing it to a halt. She knew this might send Cosi flying off, but at least she would be able to prevent another charge. The boar was stopped, but it still seemed intent on taking out Cosi. It tried to buck him off after being stopped by her blade, and she wasn't sure if he could stay on it. It wouldn't be easy, but she hoped he could actually get a graceful dismount rather than stubbornly stay on it. If he stayed, it would be much harder for her to get a clean hit next time around.

You know how it is when the roller coaster stops and your brain seems to bounce around in its skull? Well that's what all of Cosi felt like when Katagawa's great sword went into the boar that Cosi was riding and stopped the beast dead in its tracks. Cosi couldn't hold on any longer and was flung head long off of the monster. He landed some several feet away with a crash and in a heap. Cosi scrambled to his feet and swayed a bit. "Thanks for stopping the ride, Kata" Cosi said as he shook his now throbbing head. The rest of him didn't feel so good either but that didn't stop him from swaying a tad, then walked over and picked up his sword. Then, with his head still spinning, he tried to charge the boar and finish what Katagawa started.

His head was still rolling and trying to pick the right boar from the two was hard enough. Cosi didn't even think he swung near the beast.

Hokori brought her sword back out of the boar's snout, not wanting to get pulled along if the boar began to move again. "No problem Cosi." She saw him swinging wildly and had to step out of his way. He was likely dizzy from being on top of a running and bucking boar, and she didn't want to get hit by his own attacks. The boar seemed to be a bit stunned as well from the unexpected stop. Though the two were separated by quite the distance, Hokori decided to play it safe and instead try and recuperate some of the lost energy she had. She was beginning to feel quite tired again, and wasn't sure if she would be able to keep swinging her sword with the assistance of the game. It seemed as though it wanted to stop her from attacking at all, but she wanted to keep fighting until she knew the boar was down. She had already managed to take on one, so a second shouldn't be as much of an issue. Especially as it was already weakened by Cosi.

Cosi shook his head trying to clear his head. His vision was still swimming, but at least he wasn't seeing double. He was extra tired from the fight and from getting thrown from the boar- That was a terrible idea- but he still had a couple swings left in him and this boar wasn't going anywhere. Besides Katagawa was looking pretty tired herself. Still Cosi gripped his sword tighter, tried to focus on only one of everything he saw, and swung his sword at the boar before it could charge again.

His head wasn't throbbing as much, and his vision must have improved cause he actually hit the boar this time. And hit hard from the boar's bellow of pain. Cosi's version was still swimming some but he could seem at least some what straight though. Still he nearly fell over as he backed away from the now lunging boar.

Hokori kept out of Cosi's way as he swung at the boar, and actually managed to hit this time. Once he was backing away from his attack, she quickly went in and swung her own blade. It felt heavy in her hands, but she was able to put enough weight behind it to hurt the boar. It didn't seem to do that much, but it was certainly nothing to be ignored. She made sure Cosi was doing okay before trying to put herself between him and the boar. The boar seemed intent on charging down Cosi, and didn't want her in the way at all. Perhaps it was some strange maternal bond, but Hokori was glad that she was able to keep Cosi out of harm's way. So long as he was still moving around like he was crazily drunk, she didn't want the two of them to meet up again if they didn't need to.

Cosi kept backing up, his legs felt like jello, and he tried to stabilize himself by planting his sword in the ground. Once he was sure he wouldn't fall over and he could see mostly straight- he thought he would've been able to see straight by now but getting bucked of a boar would do that- Cosi tried swinging his sword again. Hopefully he'd hit the boar again.

And by insane luck he hit again. And by a small miracle he did a whole lot of damage to the boar. The boar squealed in pain again and tired to gore Cosi again. So Cosi hurriedly backed up out of the way of those slashing tusks. The boar looked hurt, will a plethora of cuts and wounds leaking red particles, but it just didn't want to quit. It was still grunting and puffing, and its eyes were still red with rage. The monster definitely wanted to kill him, even if it went do with him.

Letting Cosi take another swing at the boar, Hokori took a deep breath before going for her own strike. She was getting tired from all this swinging, but pressed on anyways. With the boar trying to charge Cosi down again, it wasn't paying attention as she quickly brought her blade down. It sliced through the boar, finally shattering it into pixels. Hokori quickly checked the loot screen, then dismissed it to go help Cosi. "Are you doing alright? That boar took you for quite the ride." She did her best to steady him, letting him slowly gain his sense of direction back. She was surprised he was able to fight at all while being so dizzy, though some of the wildly off swings began to make sense now. "The boar's dead, you can put your sword away now." Though he might be able to tell it was already gone, she didn't want him to be swinging randomly at her while trying to get him back to his senses.

Cosi blinked his eyes a couple times. His vision was still taking a dip in kiddy pool, but Cosi swore the boar had been in front of him, ready to charge, only a second ago. Then he felt a hand on his shoulder and nearly swung his upraised sword that direction before he realized that is was Katagawa. She was... saying something? Cosi shook his head in an effort to stop the ringing. "wha? oh yeah I'm fine. Thanks for the assist. I needed it" Cosi sheathed his sword and sat down trying to give his head a rest. He vision was finally back to normal but his ears had a fine buzz to them. After he felt better he leaned back, resting on his hands, and looked up, "So Kata what do we do now? Please don't say go looking for more boars. Also did you get any good drops?" He slowly got to his feet, accepting help if any was offered, and waited for Katagawa's response. He really hoped she didn't want to go fight more boars, He honestly felt like he had a concussion. Maybe this game was too life like.

With Cosi seemingly stabilized, Hokori went ahead and answered his questions. "Now we go turn in this quest. I don't think either of us are in shape for fighting any more, at least for now. As for rewards, I've got a few things. We can split everything up once we're back in town. Don't want to gimp you of your fairly earned rewards, would I?" Hokori looked around for a bit, noticing a small gleam coming from the ground. She went over to it, noticing that there was what appeared to be some sort of chest buried in the ground. "You might want to come take a look at this." As she dug it out, she could tell that it was certainly a chest. She couldn't tell what might be in it, but she figured there would be a nice amount of loot in there. She waited for Cosi, not wanting to open it without him there.

Cosi agreed wholeheartedly with Katagawa, so when she stopped heading to town and veered off to the right Cosi was actually fairly disappointed. "Katagawa town is this wa...oh" Cosi noticed she had found a small chest of sorts that had been buried in the ground. He went over to her and knelt down, inspecting the chest with her. "mmh... seems to be a chest. Probably treasure inside. Would you like me to do the honors?" When Katagawa nodded Cosi reached over and undid the two clasps keeping the chest closed. Please be something good, He thought as  the lid swung open. A soft gold light shown from within the box and as soon as it opened the light fell upon Cosi and Katagawa. Cosi's menu popped open with a ding. "Nice! I got some Col, eight materials, a set of perfect armor- that is real nice- and two rare consumables" Cosi was glad the chest hadn't been a mimic or monster, "We'll split all rewards even like you said. Though if you found any items I could identify them for you since I am a merchant." Cosi was suddenly very glad to have done that earning a living quest. "I'm not really open to the public but we're friends so its fine" Cosi was grinning ear to ear. This game was starting to look up. Yes the possibility of death still loomed but having friends made everything a bit better.

Once the chest was open, Hokori began to get ready to head back to town. She didn't think anything would intercept them on their way, so she just strapped her sword horizontally on her back down towards the hips. It wasn't the best place to put a giant sword, but it was the best she could think of without unequipping it. "If you're a merchant, then sure. I'll let you take the items to your shop to identify them. Just make sure that you get them back to me once they are identified. I would say one rare weapon and one consumable each. The perfect I'll leave to you, as you're the one identifying all of the items." She realized that she should probably go find herself a profession as well rather soon. Though she couldn't decide what profession to go for, she knew that there was no sense just putting it off. "I wish I could offer you something in return, but I still need to find myself a profession. Is there any costs you want me to pay for for the identification?"

"Sounds fair." Cosi nodded his head, "And sure thing, that sounds great. And just pay me 350 Col, that'll cover my expenses and give me a bit left over." Cosi shrugged. "So shall we head back to town and complete this quest?" Cosi started heading back to the Town of Beginnings so they could go drop off their materials at the black smith's shop, collect their rewards, and then go their separate ways. Although teaming with Kata has been fun so... maybe we could stick together. But I'll see her when she comes to pick up her items so maybe we'll team up again then later. Cosi smiled to himself. This game was definitely turning around. No longer was Cosi scared stiff of going outside. He had a shop up on the winter wonder land floor, and he was making friends. Cosi was definitely starting to like this death game.

"Yes, let's." Hokori brought up her menu and sent the Col to Cosi as the two of them headed back to town. Though she didn't know what would be coming next, she suspected that there would be more quests to come. When they got back to the blacksmith, Hokori found herself rewarded with a piece of heavy armor. It wasn't much, and she knew she would be getting much better craftmanship soon. Once they received their package and told to go find the artisan, Hokori turned towards Cosi and handed him her armor. "If you're a merchant, you can probably sell this off. I won't need it, so why don't you make some use of it. I'll be around by your shop soon, hopefully you'll have that identification ready for me by then." Hokori then turned to go towards the artisan, but stopped a little. "We might want to go together on this next quest as well, though I guess that'll be up to you."
