[F06- SP] Look Inside Yourself <<Calming the Soul>>

Cosi began to sweat from the heat of the roaring flames around him and because of his own exertion. Cosi yanked and pulled and twisted but not some much as one link of the black chains would split so much as snap. All while Cosi’s ears were assailed by screams and destruction. Cosi tried to block it out- he could pick out his sister’s cries for him and his infant brother’s own screams- as he struggled but they pierced deep into his very soul. As Cosi attempted a second time to break the chains encircling him, there were tears streaming down his face. Cosi pulled against the spiked chains the strain and pain of it on his face. Just as he was about to rest Cosi felt a single link give and then heard a snap as one chain holding his right arm broke. Cosi’s wrists were rubbed bloody but he could feel an strength rising in him. This was not impossible. It was not hopeless.

With that thought fueling him Cosi strained again against his bindings not caring how they cut into his flesh, ripping at his chest, arms, and shoulders. The chains almost seemed alive. They tightened the more he struggled and the more he tried to break them the more they cut into his skin. But still he tried ignoring the pain and heat. Even as blood began dripping down his back and arms Cosi struggled to break the black chains. Cosi heavens against them and then a second time throwing all his weight into it and he was rewarded with the sound of snapping chains. There was a tinkling sound as broken links fell to the ground and Cosi felt many chains on his left arm,  around his left shoulder and encircled around his chest go slack. But there were still many more chains binding him down and holding him in place and even though blood poured from his raw wrists and sweat stung his wounds Cosi kept struggling.

As Cosi broke the chains imprisoning him the unending inferno around him began to die down and Cosi could begin to see vague shapes amidst it. People still alive, who would still be alive if he just broke out of this bindings. So Cosi heaved against the chain links and threw himself forward trying to use all his might and will, his very soul, to break the things that kept him useless and hopeless. Cosi yanked his right arm forward hoping to shatter the chains that kept him imprisoned. Cosi felt his right shoulder slip out of his socket but as he cried out hi pain he heard several more chain snap and a couple outright shattered. His right arm was free and many more chains around his shoulders and chest went limp. He had dislocated his right shoulder but he was nearly free. There was still a sliver of hope.

Cosi could nearly taste freedom. All but three chains were snapped in twain. Cosi stood with his now increased area of movement, wrapped a chain around his left arm and grabbed the same one with his right hand. Cosi steadied himself then with all his might he pulled on the chain trying to snap ever single link in it. Cosi tugged and yanked and just when he felt like one of the links was about to give, Cosi slipped and fell. Dazed for only a second Cosi stood back up and pulled with renewed vigor. He put everything last shred of strength he had in him into this last attempt. And the chains broke. They snapped in two, sending shards of broken black metal flying. Cosi fell back again but when he hit the ground he found himself outside the open door, laying on the ground. This time the door was not filled with that liquid like curtain of black. Instead it was empty and open to the sky, allowing a cool rain to pass through and fall on Cosi's face.

Two down and two more to go, Cois let out a sigh, Half way there. Cosi rolled over onto his stomach, lay there for a couple seconds as he gathered himself, then pushed himself to a seated position. Cosi looked up towards the sky. It had changed again: the clouds were less dark and foreboding, the lightning didn't seem as constant and ear shattering, and the wind had all but stopped making the rain much more refreshing instead of biting. It looks like after every one of my demons I face and defeat my mental... spiritual?... emotional? Cosi shrugged to himself, Whatever place this is becomes more placid and peaceful, and less dark and turbulent. Cosi got up off the ground and retired to the stone seat, where he faced the last two doors. Which one would he go through next? The door left of center was the most painful but the furthest door to the left radiated so much fear and terror Cosi could hardly look at it.

Cosi turned away from the last door. A shiver went through his whole body. He didn't want to face that demon, not just yet, but it would be killer to go in that other door. He looked at the door covered in symbols of judgement and acts of betrayal. He shut his eyes, then opened them and looked at the center of the door where the unbalanced scales were. The scales depicted gold and treasure outweighing a family, Cosi's family. Cosi's heart hurt just looking at it. It meant something to him, something he had been denying for a long time. 

When Cosi had begun gaming it had really just been a past time activity. He spent most of his time with his family but as soon as he started putting up videos, gaining a following, and making it a profession, time for family slipped away. They just did not seem to matter anymore

Cosi had simply traded his family away for fame and money. He had tried to deny that fact but it was true and Cosi was done running from the truth ny longer. He stood up- determination etched on his face- strode purposefully towards the door, and pushed it open. Cosi hesitated only a moment before plunging himself into those inky shadows that waited for him. 

Again he was greeted with a sensation of falling upwards and burning oil covering his bare skin but, like the last two times, before it became unbearable Cosi found himself on solid ground. This time he was inside his own home, in the entryway. Seeing it gain in the flesh- mostly because Cosi was sure this was a vision of sorts- made his heart soar with joy but also ache as he remembered what he was here for. Cosi walked down the entry hall, clad in his armor, and moved to the living room. There, waiting for him, was his family: Mom, Dad, his sister and babay brother. They stood there staring at him with judging eyes, even baby Ryan who never looked anything but happy. "Why did you leave Us?" They all said in unison, and multi layered voice that contained a multitude of other voices including their own.

Cosi quickly backed away and drew his sword. This was definitely not his family. It was whatever demon had come to plague his mind. "You forsook Us for wealth, prestige, and fame. Then you left us again for all time. You'll be dead the next time we see you" The voices boomed. The words wormed inside of Cosi's head and took root as seeds of doubt, hate, self- loathing, and fear. Cosi shook his head as he stumbled trying to silence the reverberating voices. "No! I will make it back to you all! I promise I'll see you all again." Cosi practically screamed. "You lie." The voices pierced his head and Cosi screamed with rage as he swung his sword in blind wild slashes. All of his family members simply stepped back to avoid the inaccurate attacks. "You left Us for money. You betrayed your own family and for that you will be judged"

"No! I'll make it back to all of you and I'll make it up to you. I'll survive and I'll come back!" Cosi got up from where he had fallen. He meant what he had said: he would not die in this game and he'd return to his family and make it up to them. But those words of his not family rang in his head- you will be judged- that rang in his head. Maybe he did deserve to be judged for. Cosi shook his head, trying to clear those ringing voices, and swung his sword at his not family again. His first attack slashed through his mother, his next cut enter his sister, Sara, and his last one clipped his dad. Once they had been hit the not family suddenly exploded into flames which pushed Cosi back and singed him. Then they began to change. "Judgement shall be passed"

The not family shifted into five tall figures, cloaked not in black but in blood red judge's robes. They had helmets cast of some red metal without eye holes and each carried a two handed war hammer. "You betrayed your family and forsook them for money and prestige. Your crime is greed and your sentence shall be death" Cosi backed up as the five judges, who Cosi could now see their combined health total with the name Geir the Judges, brought up their hammers in a two handed grip in unison and advanced. Cosi quickly tried at attack the advancing judges and back away before they could retaliate. Cosi moved in and slashed across three of them in lightning fast slashes only feeling a slight resistance of armor, and then he quickly brought up his shield to block three return strikes. Cosi stumbled back under the force of the blows. These judges were much stronger than the last two demons.

Cosi brought back up his shield as another one of the judges struck out with its hammer. The blow crashed against Rose Gold with a resonating clang which threw Cosi back into the wall. He had to duck and roll as the fifth red robed figure tried to take his head off with its war hammer. The hammer smashed through the wall decimating the wood and dry wall. Cosi rolled back to his feet and attacked again. His blade cut into the one that had tried to take off his head, then Cosi pivoted and spun the blade slashing through another one. He moved among the five figures trying not to get hit and attempting to strike back. He blocked one war hammer, turned aside another with his blade, side stepped another and stabbed its user in the gut then he turned and got hit in the right side by another judge.

Cosi had the air forced out of his lungs and even though he felt the cool wave of healing from Rose Gold, his side still burned. Cosi backed away, stumbling, trying to get away from the swinging hammers. "Yield. Your time is up and Judgement is at hand." Each one of the judges said in unison pointed their hammers at his bend frame. Cosi coughed a little, "Go to hell." He summoned his strength, throwing his head back to avoid an attack, then side stepped another attack and parried a third. Cosi parried and blocked the remaining strikes and went on the offensive. He slashed through two judges, and was surprised when both dropped, and then moved to thrust into a third one. The blade pierced into its red robes, and through the armor, hitting whatever flesh lay beneath. "Treason." The judge collapsed into a pile of blood red armor and robes as well.

The last two judges regarded their fallen companions in shocked silence and then turned to look at Cosi. Their body language projected horror. Cosi decided to press his advantage and attack the remaining ones. he hefted his sword, tried to appear as threatening as possible, and attacked the surviving judges. Cosi slashed across the first judge's torso then spun and stabbed the second before they both could retaliate. Cosi's breath came in quick gasps as he watched the final red robed judges slump to the ground lifeless. As soon as they the bodies hit the ground, Cosi heard a small shuffle behind him. "Brother? Are they gone now?" Cosi spun and saw his little sister Sara, leading his brother Ryan by the hand. She looked worried, confused, and a little frightened. "Is it really you? Are you back" She looked so hopeful but sad at the same time, Cosi started to cry.

"Y-yes Sara its me." Cosi broke down in tears and knelt down and hugged her and Ryan. "Alec why are you crying? What happened?" She hugged him back but looked very worried again. "Nothing Sara. I'm just so happy to see you." Then it dawned on him: The room was slowly fading into grey. He knew what he had to say even though it tore at him to do it. "Sara I have to go now but I promise you I will be back. Tell mom and dad that I love them." Cosi let go of his sister and hugged his brother then stood up. "But why do you have to go brother you just got back?" Sara seemed to be at the verge of tears. Cosi quickly knelt back down, "Don't cry Sara. Don't cry. I promise I will be back as soon as I can" He rubbed her cheek, he missed them all so much and it pained him to leave but he had to. "Stay strong for me. Good bye"

Cosi turned to leave and found himself standing outside the, now devoid of the black substance, open door. He collapsed and started crying again. He missed them all so much and that experience had just ripped open his heart and made the pain fresh. He crawled over to the stone seat and draped himself over it. There was only one final door left. The door emblazoned with severed snakes and the death's head: a skull. Cosi shuddered as he thought want was behind that door. He could see it lurking in the deepest recesses of his mind but he didn't want to physically face the thing that crept about in Cosi's own shadow- always behind but never far away.  Cosi shivered, pulled himself up, and sat down. The sky was only a light grey now, the lightning blots had all but stopped- thunder only rumbled softly- and the rain smelled clean and fresh somehow.

Cosi sat on his stone seat for a long while trying to muster up the courage to go and open that final door but he couldn't. It terrified him to see what was in there. 

Every person has one fear they hold above all others. For Cosi, that fear was death. He loved life and living it so much that in the face of even the slightest chance of dying he grew terrified. He tried playing it off, and putting up a facade of strength but it was no use. Deep down it haunted him. That fear of death was what kept Cosi inside the Town of Beginnings for those first months. Once he heard that the game that was supposed to be utterly life like and really hard was a death game, that if he died in the game the NerveGear he was wearing would fry his brain and kill him. It had been devastating, so while others went and become good at the game, Cosi hid and cried not wanted to face the chance of death.

Cosi finally got the courage to get up and go to the door. His heart was trying to jackhammer its way out of his chest and he was drenched in a cold sweat again but he kept going. He reached the door and with all his strength and will he pushed open the door. He was greeted by the same seething, rippling darkness that had been in each of the other doors. Cosi breathed in and out trying to control his racing heart. The he stepped in. The darkness was pure flame and Cosi felt as if he would throw up from the upward fall but he didn't. He found himself in utter darkness, just as dark as the doorway he had stepped through. Cosi stumbled forward and tripped over something. Just as he did so a faint ominous red light began to glow and revealed that Cosi had fallen over his own dead corpse.

Cosi quickly scrambled away from his body. He looked around and illuminated by the red light were countless corpses. Cosi’s own corpses. Cosi nearly threw up. Not only was it a lot of dead bodies- there was a minimum thirty of them- but it was extremely unnatural seeing himself, especially seeing himself dead. Each body’s was in a state of decay. Some were little more than piles of bone. While others seemed like they were only just killed. At that thought Cosi swallowed and looked around him for anything that wasn't dead, himself, or that was moving. Cosi couldn't see the ceiling, the red glow didn't illuminate that much, and the ground was a dark earth stained with darker splotches of... yeah that was definitely blood. Cosi looked up at the crimson light. He wondered where it was coming from. Then he saw it. A globe of red light, that was moving closer to him. Crap

Cosi got quickly to his feet just as a massive skeletal arm... tendril thing smash into where he was just kneeling. It was made of bone and black sinews and covered with bone spurs and spikes. Cosi watched in horror as the thing retracted and disappeared into the dark. The thing was taller the Cosi was and just as wide. Then suddenly the red light flashed lighting up the room he was in and revealing what Cosi was facing. It was a massive centipede like creature made of bone and black carapace with four extra long legs that were exactly like the tendril that had tried to spear him. At the center of its face was that red light that had changed to a piercing brightness. 

Even though he was terrified Cosi charged the titanic monster and attacked with his sword. He slashed it through the thing's torso three times, trying to avoid the scrabbling legs, and the massive claws.

Cosi jumped aside as two of the spear like arms slammed into the ground, trying to impale him. Cosi stumbled a little but kept moving as the other two claws tried to mash him into the ground as well. Cosi turned and attacked the nearest arm, then moved past trying to throw a cut at the thing's main body. He slipped past another arm as it was pulled from the ground, dripping dirt and blood, and quickly stabbed into the main body of the monster. Cosi pulled the blade out and in a split second decision thrust in the sword again. He heard an unearthly scream not outside but directly in his head. The scream pressed on his mind and a pain blossomed right behind his eyes, like a terrible head ache. Cosi dropped his sword and pressed his hands to his ears trying to drown out the noise. Then a clawed arm smashed into him.
