He didn't do too much damage but still every bit of damage helped when facing a mob with that much health. The blonde haired tank got in close to their rocky foe, breathed in deeply, and swung with his hammer. The weapon glowed from the sword art and slammed into the Golem's other leg with a satisfying crunch. The golem stumbled and Cosi quickly swung the hammer in his hands to bring another sweeping hammer stroke smashing into the back of its leg. The mob groaned a shuddered, nearly stumbling as now both of its legs were covered in numerous cracks and dents where red pixels showed through. Cosi grinned and took a couple steps back to let Shield do his thing. Its a good thing I got this trinket. Cosi thought to himself as he glanced down at his diamond clasp. I've hardly missed since I've got it. I will definitely have to pay Dom a visit so I can thank him properly. Link to post Share on other sites

Holding out his sword arm, he charged up a fresh orb of red light. He swung his arm, sending the orb to Cosi, watching it melt into his torso.With the buff applied, he turned his focus just in time to see the attack coming. He threw his shield arm out this time, catching the giant arm mid-swing. He felt the impact all the way up his arm and into his shoulder, but he held his ground. Again, his health dipped, but it would not be long before it was close to full again. Despite the power of the golem, the fight was well in hand. "Let's see what that buff can do now that you've had a chance to level a bit," he called out, giving Cosi a nod before tucking and rolling back, giving the other player a clear path to the target. Shield had intended the experience to be shock and awe, but he was beginning to feel he needed to pick a higher floor for that. He was a little too defensive to make the impression of danger. Still, with his defenses where they were, he might actually be able to get away with swapping out gear for a little extra loot. It was a long shot, but it was a thought. The blonde player nodded at Shield in thanks and then charged at the quartz golem. Cosi's movement's felt faster and simply put more powerful from the buff but that wasn't really the best thing. The blonde player stumbled once or twice when charging the mob but still he managed to stop and then swing his hammer at the monster. Except this time the massive golem was not completely engrossed and focused on the front line tank so it saw Cosi coming and, surprisingly quick for such a big mob, moved out of the way of the blonde player's sword art enhanced attack. Cosi stumbled with the weight of the hammer head and nearly fell to his knees. He grimaced, straightened up, and then quickly moved back beside Shield. "There's nothing to be sorry about," he answered simply. "We've got this." As if on cue, the golem turned its eyeless face towards Shield and lurched forward. Shield spun his body, holding his sword to the side where he had stood and bracing it against his forearm so the blade itself would be held steady as the massive fist carried through it. The golem, as a result, cut its own arm open on the puny blade, using its own powerful attack. A huge gash split the arm, leaving a long, angry gash, and a huge dent in the monster's health. The gauge plummeted down from green, through yellow, almost all the way into red. Shield tumbled out of the way and to the side, coming up once again on his feet. "One more of those and I expect we'll be out of here, but then again, hopefully he'll be dead by the next time I get the chance." Again, Shield looked over the combat stats. Cosi was getting low on energy again, but his buff was also about to expire. Not only that, but Shield knew that with as man hits as Cosi had landed, he would soon pull aggro. Gotta keep on it... The titanic mob's health was in the yellow now so, like Shield said, it would be dead soon. Once within range Cosi unleashed his Ultimate Breaker sword art, a very flashy name for only a rank two sword art. Inbrunst slammed into the golem's leg. Shards of rock and crystal went flying which soon shattered into pixels, and the monstrous sentient rock stumbled to one knee. The blonde haired player then swung his hammer in an upwards arc and the hammer head connected right on the golem's chin, snapping its head upwards and sending particles of light flying. The entire thing creaked and groaned as the golem slowly rose back to its feet. Both of its legs were covered in cracks and dents while its arms were sliced up from Shield's parries, and now it had a nice shiner on its face from Cosi. Its head swiveled back and forth between the two tanks, which was Shield's cue that he needed to grab agro back. He filled his lungs with air once again and howled for its attention. "Hey, rocky! What are you looking at? You got a thing for blondes or something!?" For some reason, the Golem took exception to this and returned his roar, bending over and screaming angrily from its lack of mouth at Shield. It lunged, winding up its arm to swing at Shield with a powerful hay-maker. Shield braced himself, holding up the Manticore Mask. Just as the foe was about to swing, its legs cracked at the knees and it fell onto its face again, the ground shaking once again from the impact. Behind it, its feet and lower legs still stood, separated from its body for a long moment before shattering into shards of light and vanishing into the air. The cavern shook, rocks and dust falling from the ceiling, and Cosi had to stabilize himself on a nearby rock formation. After regaining his balance the blonde haired hammer user rushed towards the downed quartz golem and attacked the prone mob. His hammer flashed red as Cosi slammed it into the fallen monster's head and like hitting a nail into wood Cosi repeatedly hammered the golem's head into the cavern floor. After the onslaught Cosi jumped backwards, a motioned for Shield to go, "You're up." Cosi looked back to the golem as it began to rise from its fallen position, all of its joints creaking and cracking. "I wonder if it can even stand up now or if it can how is it going to? It was a spectacle to be sure, but that did not necessarily make the monster any less dangerous. Shield stepped in, putting up his wall of a defense with his shield out in front and his sword at the ready behind. At his sword's tip, he began focusing a bead of red light, which grew from the size of a marble to that of a grapefruit. He once again swung his blade, lofting the powerup to his ally to buff up his offense. "That buff is nice because it scales with the recipient as they level, meaning you can use that same buff on someone tier three, and it would be just as effective as if I were to do it." The golem, none too amused with Shield's instructional banter, waddled on its stumpy legs to close the distance to Shield. It struck with just as much force as before, but it was running out of life. A big chunk of what remained dropped away, putting the mob well into the red. It was the last major benchmark before death. Shield kept his guard up since it was his best weapon, but he kept his eye out just in case an opportunity arose to do more than just take the hits. "That is a pretty nice skill then." Cosi shouted back to Shield as the blonde player ran towards the golem, his hammer already in motion. Cosi's sword art and buff enhanced strike hit the golem right in the mid section since the mob was much shorter now. The strike hit with a resounding crack as bits of quartz and rock flew off to then dissipate into particles of light. The now slightly less massive monster struggled to stay upright on its broken legs and it ended up having to stabilize itself with its own arms, giving Cosi the perfect opportunity to bash it right in the face with his follow up strike. It was going to be a powerful strike, which meant possibly missing the chance to deal thorns damage. He leaped back, putting himself out of arms reach. The monster stumbled on its stump less, having to regain its balance. Shield took that moment to charge up an extra dose of energy, tossing it to Cosi just as the golem made to swing again. It was an underhand attack. One Shield was not as worried about taking. He braced himself and took the impact on his Shield arm. It rattled him, but his stance held solid. The health of the golem did not, however, being cut practically in half by his defenses. "That's better. You play my game, not the other way around!" Its only two good hits away from death. One of mine and then one of its after it hits Shield. Cosi got within in striking distance and then released a flurry of swings, trying to get the unstable mob to fall. One hit landed across what was left of the monster's leg, shattering more rock and quartz, and the second swing hit it full in the chest, leaving a large red crack in the thing's torso. The golem continued to creak and groan and more bits of it fell off to shatter into light. Cosi retreated a couple steps and turned to his companion, "You're up Shield. Finish this mob off." Cosi knew the fight was practically over but still he kept inbrunst out just in case the golem missed and Cosi was needed to continue attacking. Link to post Share on other sites

He braced himself, lowering his stance and holding his sword at the ready, preparing to counter whatever the cracked and broken monster might throw at him. "You bet!" he called in response to Cosi. The remaining joints of the foe creaked and groaned as it pulled back its arm, and as it prepared to attack... there came another loud crack. The legs under the golem crumbled, and it fell onto its hips joints. It teetered there for a moment before falling directly onto its face. Shield heaved a heavy, disappointed sigh, his skill going to waste entirely as the attack failed to launch, let alone land. "You know, there was once a day when I could actually get in a solid counterattack. That day is not today." He checked the health gauge one more time. There was too much for Cosi to deal the last hit just yet. Perhaps once the golem recovered, Shield might be able to get in the last prick with his thorns, but until then, they were stuck waiting it out a while longer. "We're so close..." The cavern shakes and dust cascades from the ceiling. Cosi gives a small cough and turns to his dark haired companion, "Yeah today is just not your lucky day. Though I guess I can take some of the blame for that. I was the one who started going for the golem's legs." Cosi gave Shield an apologetic shrug and then briskly walked over to the collapsed rock monster as it struggled to push itself up. Cosi stood right by its head raised his hammer and then with a yell brought the heavy hammer head down on the mob. The quartz golem was slammed back into the ground from the force of the blow. Rock broke off and the monster was left with another pixel exposing crack in its head. "I guess we just wail on this guy now." Cosi said as he raised Inbrunst up again. As he did so, the great paddle-like hand of the golem raised and struck down at him. It hit home, and immediately, the form of the now crippled mob froze, gleamed a bright, blueish white, and then burst into shards of the same color. Shield sighed, falling flat on his back out of sheer exasperation. "Well, at least now you see the potential risks of being a damage taker trying to do a damage dealer's job. Granted, you're building yourself to try to do both, but still, this may well be you on some quest bosses. Especially the dodgy ones." He rolled onto his side, examining the loot that dropped from the battle. "Great. More consumables. And uncommon quality at that. So much for that fight being worthwhile." He shook head and banished his menus and stared up at the crystalline ceiling of the cavern for a long time, watching as the party's energy stores slowly began to refill themselves. Shield had fallen to the ground after the golem had exploded into light particles and from his prone position he started talking. Cosi nodded wearily at Shield's statement. That had been exhausting and nearly unbearably long. Cosi had been able to deal a damage to the monster of course but not nearly enough as what would be required of him when he reached the front lines. He still needed to grind out more sp. Cosi nodded some more and then rose from his lax position. He strapped Inbrunst onto his back and then made his way over to Shield. Cosi extended a hand to help his companion up. "Glad that's finally over. Looks like I've got a whole lot more leveling to do if that was just a taste of what the front lines will be like. So what shall we do now?" "I'm not that tired yet. Just a bit exasperated. Trust me, there have been fights that stretched on easily twice that long, and far beyond when the damn things should have died. I've seen some real statistical anomalies, let me tell you." He swiped his fingers through the air, then let them dance across the menu. He dismissed his shield and his armor spines to be replaced by his trusty earring and pendant, each of them boosting separate loot finding stats. "I also highly recommend getting something to boost your Prosperity parameter. It may cost a little bit extra, but it easily pays for itself, sometimes even just withing the first chest you open. Speaking of which, that's what I recommend next. Hopefully we'll make this trip worth more than a lesson in patience for the both of us. Come on." He began his way back along the path they had taken to get here, though Shied slowed around corners, and he kept his eyes sharp for the telltale glow of his earring. Cosi then followed suite and changed out his gear, switching out his armor and his clasp for his ring and the bracelet he was borrowing from Shield. I wonder when he wants this back. He said I could use it as long as I gave it back... "Shield, Do you want your bracelet back? I've got enough Col and mats that I could get one of my own. Also, what exactly does Prosperity do?" Cosi followed Shield as the two of them back tracked there way out of the mines and all the while Cosi watched the green gem on his ring to see if it would glint. Hopefully we do get a chest that will make this trip worthwhile. Not that this hasn't been great. We did a quick quest and then fought a rock man forever. Link to post Share on other sites

Shield turned his head back to glance at Cosi over his shoulder. "If I'm honest, I don't need it. Until the need arises, you can keep it," he said, turning his eyes forward once again. "As for what Prosperity does, it enhances the Col drops from mobs and chests. It costs a bit to get, but when I got mine, it paid for itself on the first outing I took with it." He held his hand up, glancing at it occasionally to see if his earring was casting its telltale golden glow to indicate something of value nearby. They turned a corner, and before Shield could even look to assess what was in front of them, his hand lit up as if shone upon by a light bulb. The small hoop that hung from his earlobe was radiating light. He turned this way and that, looking for signs of something valuable. His eyes fell onto a torch bracket, the flame of which was an eerie blue. He smiled a little to himself. "I've seen this trick before," he said, gesturing to the torch. "The lighting on this floor is all natural. Every once in a while, a torch will appear, which is a surefire sign that something is hidden. Take a look." He reached out and pulled on the bracket. It moved like a lever, and the wall opposite the bracket opened up, sliding down and out of the way to reveal a chest, the hinge of which was designed to look like a closed mouth, and with demon's horns adorning the side. Cosi chuckled, "Sounds like I'm going to be making another stop a Dom's artisan shop." Cosi took out his fishing rod as he spoke, then walked over to a medium sized pond, and cast his line in. He was no good at gathering materials so fishing was much better. Cosi felt something snag his hook so he began reeling his catch in. But it was harder than expected. Cosi tugged on his pole till he felt something give then suddenly there was no resistance and Cosi fell backwards. When a treasure chest landed next to the prone player he couldn't help but laugh. "That was a risky move," he said, taking out his ring of golden keys. He only had three left. He would need to replenish his supplies. "We just got through one drawn out fight, and those monsters don't hit as hard as monster fish bosses can." Kneeling down, he held out one of his keys and watched as it vanished, leaving a trail of golden dust drifting down through the air. The lid of the chest popped open, and the contents appeared on a menu in front of him. "Hmm... We have a couple of weapons and a consumable," he said, frowning slightly. "If you'd like the weapons, you can have them, though if not I can always find use for them. You're not tier three yet, but I suppose you may be someday." He selected the option to collect them all, turning to face Cosi again. "Now let's see to that other chest." He stepped over to the pool where Cosi had been fishing, kneeling down to examine the chest. This one was plain rotted wood with a few clumps of seaweed that seemed to have sprouted in the wood.
