[F6-PP] A change in attire (Feeding the Enemy) Yui's Grace #1

Recommended Posts

Sliding through the floor at a rapid pace with a tinge of her memory of the pale reflection known as Gemini racing through her head. She had come leagues past then, growing immensely from a girl that needed constant supervision. Spinning around a branch before a soft landing as she spreads wide to break her fall, showing her athletic prowess matched with the lack of restriction in her clothing. Kasumi opens her menu and taps it, like sonar it pings outward and reveals some of the grid from the fog of war. "Just a little more for today, got to keep going." Kasumi mutters looking to what she had scouted and it still was obvious there was a staggering more to do. Swallowing her growing exhaustion, she kneels low before hopping into the trees once more for she'd not risk pulling attentions on the ground floor that would end up slowing her down or worse.

Slinking around the floor with his arms crossed behind his head, making careful steps over the roots that dug their way out of the ground. Gaius was simply wandering about as he enjoyed doing, taking in the scenery, and looking for that next interesting meal. He vaguely recalled a batch of mushrooms he had partaken of a while back, and although he had some stomach problems afterward, he'd not discredit the opportunity of trying to cook them up this time around. The place smelled of moisture despite how dry it seemed today as if the rainfall had taken a breather. "It's just like an ocean of trees." Gaius speaks to himself, eyeballing his surroundings in an aimless wander. It was habitual for him to end up lost, and in this thicket, it was a very real possibility again. Thankfully this time around he decided to exclude Boris, he could already see the kind of issue the tiny bear may have had had he brought him.

Latching her hands around the base of a tree, perched high enough she could see the sky above her. The pillars of living wood on this floor were truly huge, only those deft enough to catch themselves should they fall should be upon them. Although risky the vantage point they provide was rather unmatched from anywhere else, as she could see above a ton of the emerald green rainforest upon the top of one. Although slick, the moss provided quite the footing in a form of suction. Latching on tight to it, Kasumi begins to slide down to a lower branch looking for where they would connect up so she could move between them. Easily enough she manages it, activating another pulse to help build upon the information the guild had readily available. It was what it meant to be an intel division member and she had no trouble doing her part.

Pushing through some of the lush brush that aimed to halt his advance, Gaius uses his glaive to cut a path through it with one broad stroke. "Piece of s*** trees, moving around is kind of a chore." the typhoon quips as sections of vegetation flop to the ground around him, he moves through deeper into the canopy in unending shade. He sees a small outcropping of the very thing he sought: tan brown mushrooms in a small collective. "Choice, come here baby!" Gaius remarks kneeling low and with a snap of one of the stocks, he had one visibly untouched by all but him. His mind raced with possibility of marinades or puree that it could form as either a main dish or a seasoning for something else. A loud rumble in his stomach confirms it as he salivates but shakes his head, pocketing the material instead of getting more issues from eating it raw.

Once the mapping sequence completes, Kasumi slides low before springboarding to the next tree with arms outstretched. Her hands clasp around a branch and like a gymnast she spins upright, folding her legs and pushing up to the flat of her feet. She doesn't look down for she knew it would be the quickest way to folly, instead always looking forward and trusting in her abilities that she had honed on the daily. She had no way of knowing that the world's loudest buffoon was also present in the forest, and could quickly draw all hostiles away from her with one screech. It remained uncertain if they would encounter each other at all given the distance from where she stood and the base of the trees, which was probably for the best for the last time they were alone together she punched him and failed a quest they went on.

He twists after pocketing the resource, looking down to those that remained with an almost sinister glare in his eyes. But as he moves closer he notices them starting to shrink away. "The hell?" Gaius barks unsure how to process the fact they were reducing in size before the culprit is revealed. A small green lizard stares back at him, with huge beady black eyes. "Hey f***er those were mine!" he looks down at the tiny creature, who seems unfazed by his shouting as a tongue slides over one of its eyes. Lifting his glaive up, he was going to smash the little bastard. Before he could however it quickly darts away and up a tree. Gaius gives pursuit and looks up yelling at the tree "Thats right you better run you little b****" in a huff, it seemed the one he had would have to suffice for whatever he would use it for.

In the distance, she could swear she could hear a male toned voice yelling, but couldn't make out what it was. "Ominous." she offers a single word response as she tilts her head trying to decipher what was being said from the echo. She then chooses to ignore it unless it happened again, Kasumi could not afford to be sidetracked. Usually, these kinds of extended stints ended up doing more harm than good if they went on for too long. Leaving her tapped the next day and unable to perform to her full potential, she'd only done it once during fourth lessons although that was more of a result of becoming seasick. Kasumi uses one of her hands to twist her orange hair around her ear and out of her eyes, before lunging to the next tree eager to keep moving and map even more of the floor. A slide of her feet as they connect with a tree, folding under her as a form of shock suppression.

Spinning the polearm up in his hands, Gaius gets ready to heave it like a javelin. "I'll show you!" as it glows a bright lime green. With surprising speed and ferocity he tosses the weapon at the small beast that thought it could make a meal of his gains without ramifications. A tiny hiss is heard, as Gaius smirks. Falling to the ground is his glaive and on its tip a squirming green lizard that had robbed him. "Gotcha ya little cretin." he comments kneeling over the creature which expires on the end. "I wonder what you'll taste like, basically stuffed yourself with what I was going to cook with. So I suppose I'll cook you instead." the typhoon comments with a chuckle. Pulling the tiny carcass free, Gaius pockets it as it is added to his inventory with a visual listing of <<Mushroom Stuffed Lizard>> as he sheathes his polearm before heading on.

In an almost defiance of gravity, the girl clings to the log for a moment before dropping down to the branch below her. Again the slides her menu open, taking the map to a larger size before a tap of her index finger creates another blue ring around where she was centered. A couple of tiles in a circle from her position become unobscured, showing topography as she etches them as safe for travel. With a smile as the HUD blinks closed, her attentions shift as she catches something on her peripheral amongst the leaves. Her eyes dart up to where she was sure she had seen it but finds nothing more than leaves swaying softly. Her amber eyes fixated on the spot, trying to deduce if it was truly a figment of her imagination or if it may have been something more. She would begin to lean in closer, being braver than she'd ever hope to be.

Making his way back to the disturbed mushrooms, still rather perturbed by the fact that the local fauna had done a number on what he wanted for himself. He found himself leaning over it disheartened by what he saw when out of the corner of his eye he spotted it. One lonely mushroom that he had not caught in his pursuit of the culprit had survived the attack. "Oh boy, I am in luck!" Gaius smiles and snatches it up, rubbing his eyes and getting a closer inspection. It was indeed full of body and would be usable. Carefully add it to his inventory with the others, his options expanded two fold as did his mood. At least with two, he'd have a chance to fail and still make out alright. That be good enough for him, to make an omelet one have to be ok breaking a few eggs.

Noticing nothing that showed any idea of what it may been the girl props it up to her imagination. Kasumi begins to travel forward again, she had a few more hours of daylight left and as such no time to waste on superstition or the feeling like she was being watched. The blossom could not shake it, however, and as she traveled from branch to branch it was ever present, but Kasumi had tried to push it from her mind. A few more long strides from vine to moss to wood, with adept dexterity she would pause upon another tall spire. Fiddling with her orange locks for a moment as her comfortability began to fade, she would ask to the forest directly "Who's there?" to no response. She was beginning to feel a bit spooked, starting to feel the conversion from a titan to a mouse bubbling from within her breast.

Having claimed the one lonely plant that remained in the bunch, he now had two of them and a single fat little jerk that ate the rest. This meant that Gaius would need to go deeper if he wished to find more, perhaps getting more turned around and maybe even spending the night out here. It was not that far out of the norm, especially on floors that had a more maze like appearance. Clipping down more foliage that aimed to halt his advance, he'd not care about getting lost for it was the journey that mattered more than a destination. This was how he chose to live and any result that came from that would be met head on, not like a coward. Without any caution or regret, Gaius proceeded deeper into the thicket, in search for nothing more than materials for food and the dishes it could be made into.

The words were spoken and fall to silence, with no response from the eyes that were tearing holes through her back. Fighting through the uncomfortable feeling they had brought to her, she would lunge again to keep her routine. Heading more north across the ever expansive network of connecting wires of wood, with deft hops and slides that proved she was suited to the task given to her. Kasumi pauses again and offers another activation of her HUD's minimap revealing a few more tiles from the fog of war. She felt a little exposed and vulnerable, alone in this forest it seemed and with whatever was watching her she was finding it difficult to focus. The sense of urgency was the only thing keeping her moving despite the fact, Kasumi was not one to dawdle taking a page from her cousin's book he had a way of rubbing off on her.

The typhoon hardly had a direction in mind, simply enjoying the scenery as he paraded ever east waiting for something worth note to jump up and bite him. He'd take in the sights seemingly buried in the spires of wood around him, the massive trees made him feel small as his back almost folded in half looking toward the tops with a whistle. "These are some big a*** trees." Gaius comments at the fact as a drop of residue taps his forehead, perhaps an omen that the rainfall may begin shortly. It bothered him none to even his own surprise, the rainfall would prove to be refreshing and start to peel the growing sticky feeling the humidity had provided. A continued journey as he hops upon a high rise and takes a survey of his surroundings, aimless as always he was partially lost but he knew to just head backward would probably lead him home.

The sky began to take on a painted orange, showing that the sun was setting. She was becoming rather exhausted, having been out and about since the sun had risen. A result is how much of the map had now been identified and once added to what the guild already had written to a page it would prove valuable. It was worth noting that there was little resistance more than the travel itself, strangely enough, the floor seemed rather devoid of hostile presence as if even the mobs themselves did not enjoy traversing the foliage. It was either that, or they were skillful enough to lurk outside the girl's vision. This was cemented by the fact the girl had this almost unending feeling of being watched, that perhaps there was more at work here than the first interpretation would catch. A flick of her wrist closes her screen, and with another quick scan around her, she still doesn't find what her pursuer may be.

His travels bring him to a bit of parading water, seemingly a deferral from the falls from the mountain above. "Nice." Gaius barks out taking to his knees and shoving his head into the water without a second thought. He opens his eyes under the water and notices a cool grey scaled bass. Score... runs through he mind as he lunges his hands in after it. He succeeds in grasping the creature taking both hands to lift out. "Hey there fatty, bet you'll make quite the meal." Gaius grins, some fresh meat that was probably leagues more editable than the lizard from prior. His stomach rumbles again, further cementing how long it had been since he had last eaten. It was high time he headed back, if he could deduce where back was. Careful steps taken, Gaius places the whole damn thing still kicking into his inventory as <<Live Bass>> for he could club it later.

Kasumi begins to head back toward the nexus of the floor, the only settlement as far as she was aware of. Leaping gingerly from branch to branch, she'd not risk traveling on the ground despite her growing exhaustion. The rigors of ending combat would leave her even more drained than this, so the expenditure to avoid such things was a more than adequate trade. To a flutter of leaves and moss, as she hops from vine to branch, she was making excellent travel. The blossom pauses, feeling that rising notion that eyes were upon her again and as a precaution, she turns to face where she suspects it may originate from. But still, it eludes her sight again, she began to wonder that perhaps she may have felt the cardinal itself taking an active vision of her. Why else would this unnerving feeling be never met with an actual response?

Deciding to attempt to head back, Gaius gets turned around for the first trek back. This brings him instantly back to the pond he had just wet himself in. "F***, I thought this was..." his words trail off into thought, spinning and going the other direction. It would take him a bit but he was making some progress, finding the empty patch of mushrooms from before and where he had done a fair job of cutting apart the large bushes. If nothing else, following the path of his own destruction was usually his best bet for keeping his barrings provided the cardinal had not yet refreshed and repaired his onslaught. The sun was setting more and more by the moment, the oranges begin to take to a red, casting the green foliage in harsh contrast. "Don't have too much longer before its dark, I don't want to starve to death out here." Gaius recoils, food always being the first thing he thought about.

With her journey coming to a close she looks down over the settlement of Krycim, a loosely strung together tribal village with nothing more than the quest board and the warp gate being of major note. The NPC seemed to be retiring into their scripted homes, showing just how late it was becoming. With a smile Kasumi knew she was rounding home, perhaps she'd finally escape what was tailing her. It was creepy and overbearing but only showed partway through her trek through the floor which made her think that it may have been something that had found her within its confines rather than an effect of the floor itself. Placing her hand to the base of the tree, she'd latch on tight and take her time toward the ground. It wouldn't be ideal to plummet to her death being this close to the safe zone as such she chose caution over speed.

Feeling turned around Gaius was sure that the village was the way he had went. Now he was not so sure, looking off in each direction hoping to yield which way he should head. With a shrug, the typhoon just begins to head where his gut told him to go. If he got lost out here it would not be the end of the world, he was sure he could fashion some sort of sleeping arrangements and start a fire. The beautiful thing about being a chef is he could make due for quite sometime when this happened. The fact was it happened often enough that he accepted it, but he'd much rather cook this stuff up well than on a stick. But it was what it was, and if this is where his path would lead then so be it. He was not one to fret over the small details, after all, he'd face it head on.
