[SP|F11] <<Nature's Treasure>> A Long Trip

Although this fungus-species was clearly Kayaba's creation, the boy wasn't feeling resentment towards the creator because of them. He saw this world as something unique- the NPCs and AI were probably made to function based on his coding, but they were just free beings to him. The only ones that he'd coded to mess with the player's memories or appearance, those were the ones he directly blamed him for. But for monsters to have taken NPCs hostages...

It felt like something right out of a story- just like this world. Maybe that's what made this so easy to believe. Upon chipping the crystals off of the cave, he spent little time doing nothing and went back on the move, seeing some glowing berries on the floor. Although he couldn't do much with them as he wasn't a cook, he knew a few chefs... yes, like her, that could make use of them.

The cave appeared to be reaching what seemed like its end, but maybe upon taking care of whoever four mushroom-men were just up ahead, he'd be able to inspect it any better. There was no way it ended that abruptly with four slightly larger monsters just waiting at the very end. He knew that couldn't just be it. While he approached, the protective of their territory monsters got up, seeming to don a sort of cloak. It had a sense of might, unlike whatever rags the rest had been wearing.

They were probably just a bit tougher, if how burly they were comparatively to the spearmen or sorcerers was anything to go by. "Stand aside and free whoever you are holding captive.", he ordered them, although they seemed to understand very little. They all took out what seemed like little swords, with one holding a buckler in its hand that was about its size. "T-Tch... These damn monsters won't listen..."

With a deep breath, Chase realised the chances of being able to get away without a fight were slim to none- only if he turned back. Roaring, he quickly ran towards them and raised his sword in the air. Just as they were about to attack him, he slashed swiftly. When his attack were to hit the final of the four though, it appeared to have raised its buckler and blocked Chase's own strike.

The other three fell back while the one armed with a shield ran forwards and tried to slash, exchanging a few attacks back and forth with Chase. Every single one of them got blocked, either by the Commander's shield or the broadsword's flat side, being sent back with sparks in both cases. The boy retreated just slightly eventually, leaving the three commanders messed up and glaring at the one with the shield, which appeared to be the strongest of them all. Maybe their leader, even.

Just when the monsters began getting back onto their feet, the bluehead decided it'd be best to take advantage of their fatigue and hit them while they were still easy score. He quickly ran in and with an undercut, he managed to catch one of the injured ones off guard, barely taking it out. His slash also seemed to have hurt the one in the buckler which was retreating and getting back in formation with the others, who managed to block the blade with their own together and escape any damage.

They began to slash towards Chase, but their movements clearly indicated panic. They were thrown much too off balance to successfully get an attack in on him, which was a good start. "Good, these three won't be a problem. Just gotta wrap this up with the next attack then!", he thought to himself, filled with determination as a fiery stare took over.

His adrenaline was at its highest as he shifted his stance, ready to kick at the ground and launch himself right towards them. Instead of doing so right off the bat however, he held his sword in his left hand, drawing it close to his chest with its sharp side and waiting, placing the other hand right over its flat side. An orange glow took over as he let out a deep exhale, giving a very scary glare before he dashed right towards them.

The dash carried enough strength behind it to still be going even once he'd reached them, and quickly moving his hand over to his hilt, he spun twice or thrice with quick, spinning slashes to take them all down. Even when they tried to block with the buckler and swords all at once, their weapons shattered from the impact and gashes appeared all over their bodies moments before turning into crystals.

All the exhaustion caused by his all-out last attack was enough to get him to freeze for a few dozen seconds once the battle was over. Once he'd recovered, he slowly broke out of his previous stance and leaned on his sword which he poked into the ground lightly, letting out a deep sigh and brushing his hair back. He dismissed the loot window popup that appeared before him without really reading into it, looking around to see that the cave went deeper, and lower while it was at it.

"... This explains it. They probably have some form of 'home' down there, if my hunch is right... I wonder how many days I'll stop them from spawning by doing this.", he thought to himself and began heading their way, picking up some more of the glowing berries just before reaching the back end of the cave that led deeper down inside.

He sheathed his sword and began sliding down, keeping a hand ready to grab the ground in case he felt like he would fall and hurt himself. It took only a few seconds of sliding downhill before he arrived at what seemed like the new level. The spores flying around were as dense and plentiful as snow, and all forms of mushrooms and berries with light luminescence. Before heading deeper down the new narrow corridor he was met with, he crouched and picked one mushroom that appeared to be squishy, yet resembled a crystal.

It was closer to jelly in that sense. Regardless, he stuffed it in his inventory alongside the literal hundreds of other materials he'd found and slowly pulled his blade out of his back sheathe again, holding it in his hands with furrowed eyebrows as he kept his guard up for monsters. "Let's see what we have here..."

It didn't take long before his suspicions were confirmed. There did in fact, seem to be a tower of sorts further ahead. That's probably where the fungi-people grew into full maturity and emerged out of, as well as where most probably went to recover after battle or to simply rest. A few guards appeared to be outside of it, although too few... This was probably just a settlement and not a 'main base', so to speak. Maybe it was further up ahead in floors, or in some other cave complex that he hadn't entered.

According to rumors, various ant-men existed on this floor, so there were bound to be tons upon tons of cave complexes. There were no more materials laid along the ground on his path, so he prepared himself for yet another encounter. His goal this time was to take the tower down, alongside the guards. "Alright... Let's do this."

As Chase came out of the shadows, it appeared that the guards were already alert. At least one of them. Whether he'd told the other two or not would show now that Chase was charging in to attack. The boy quickly swung the sword from the side, managing to get a free hit on the first two guards that quickly turned to his attention, falling back and getting successfully knocked off balance by the attack. The third one that Chase tried to hit with a spinning strike though, seemed to quickly block the attack with a wide shield, instead sending him backwards.

Then, it quickly charged in and slammed him with its shield. It was around then that an arrow came down right from one of the tower's windows near the top, although little could be seen from there. It got a hiss out of Chase and refueled his subsided rage, that much could be guaranteed.

"So something is in there..! If I take it down whole, everything inside will come crashing down alongside it- I'll just have to hit it right along with the other three. Here goes nothing!", he organized his thoughts before running towards them again, sending a circular slash their way. All three guards appeared to block the attack, but then they lowered their shields to see him following up with a horizontal slash parallel to the ground. Two of them got hit, the third one that was aware of the boy's presence managing to block it again regardless of the opening.

Just before the two guards' HP dropped to zero, they both flew back into the tower and caused it to shake slightly. The bluehead wasn't sure where to view its HP or if he even could, seeing as it might be a structure of sorts, but he was certain that must have damaged it in some way.

"Now it's just the guard and the tower itself... I can do this!", he reassured himself before beginning to make his way towards the two again. The guard tried to slam its shield right into the male, only to get attacked and knocked further behind from all the force behind the slash. As if one wasn't enough though, a series of strikes began from Chase until he managed to knock it off guard enough and get its shield to stop fully covering it.

Taking the opportunity, he swiftly slashed down at the monster and managed to finally lower its HP any, grinning widely. His fight or flight instinct was still as strong as it had been when he first entered, and it only got fueled more when the corner of his eye caught an arrow flying his way, barely managing to block it with the flat of his blade slamming it and breaking it before it hit him.

Both the guard and the tower were now wounded, and that was just what he needed. If he managed to land his attack just fine, he would be able to take the both of them down- meaning whatever was in the tower, or however many monsters, would just get killed off by the fall damage paired with the rubble that would fall right on top of them before the tower's remains despawned. "I know exactly what to do then..!", Chase quickly came up with an idea as he began to sprint right towards the guard, seeing it raise its shield again.

That wouldn't matter, as he wasn't aiming to slash at it. A loud clunk was heard, with the male slamming the flat of his blade right against its shield to knock it back. While it stood firm, he began to spin with menacing force, slamming right into the guard more and more- it wasn't long before the guard was sent flying from all the force swiftly piling up, at the expense of a lot of energy, getting knocked right into the tower and chipping away both's remaining health points.

Chase's abilities in battle had been honed to the fullest in this little excursion in whatever the hell this dungeon-like complex was, and just as he thought so, backing away from the tower, it began to collapse. Some cries could be heard from inside, similar to the ones from the fungal-kin he'd been facing all this time. He gave it a moment for all the rubble and anything under it to disappear into crystals, tightening his grip on his blade. He hadn't found any NPCs so far, and that's what worried him the most.

On one hand, it meant that they couldn't have ever been here. Perhaps they'd escaped and the old man was simply left behind due to his wounds. On the other, he could have been much too late and they were already taken elsewhere or finished off. As much as he wanted to pin the blame on himself though, not only was there no warning of such an event, but he couldn't pull this off on his own, being late as well.

He sifted through the small mounds of dirt under where the tower was, finding a few materials worthy of notice and putting them in his inventory to use for crafts or to sell to Simmone later. At the same time, he just noticed his loot window and gave it a quick read, silently closing it before giving his inventory a quick check. "... I've gotten a hell of a lot of items on this trip, holy damn...", he made the mental note, laughing awkwardly to himself out of just how caught off guard he was with this.

And then it struck him he was still in enemy territory, as something appeared to linger in the very back. The cave closed off and now it was for sure- there was no deeper to go down, and four massive creatures, or something like that, could be seen waiting up ahead. This got his heart pounding as a sense of finality settled in, with his sword held firmly in both hands just above the ground. A huge part of the cave, almost like an arena opened up as soon as he entered, his eyes widening at the sight.

Now he was sure that this is where all of them must have originated from. Four massive balls of fungus attached to the ground with some form of tendrils seemed to be there, floating just above the ground and emitting the very same spores that flew throughout the rest of the cave. "S-So this is why... Then are all the spores in the air those monsters..?", he thought to himself, before setting his mind on a single thing. Destroying these four cores.

Whatever the case, no NPCs seemed to be nearby. But these four cores were more than enough to start wreaking havoc and putting anybody that approached the cave, NPC or not in danger. The game's rules had been completely forgotten by Chase right now as he thought, if they were to multiply to that extent, then they would probably start being much more aggressive and territorial until they ended up taking over the floor. Hell, maybe that was possible, even in Aincrad's confines. No way he could let that happen.

His HP just so happened to fill to the very brim when he decided it was time to begin attacking them, taking a deep breath and charging in. With a bright blue glow, his blade began to shine in the relatively dark cave, attacking at some of each core's tendrils, keeping them to the ground. Two of the cores appeared more hurt and even pulsated at the damage, getting the more squeamish side of Chase to send shivers and chills down his spine.

The other tendrils he attacked seemed completely unhurt, and even retaliated in response. The ground underneath him began to crack, as more tendrils came out and tried to fly right his way. The boy started to sprint about the room, dodging any attacks or in the worst case, slashing the tendrils in half just before they managed to strike him. Whatever this was, they weren't quite as menacing as they seemed- still a threat to him nonetheless.

Just as he took care of every single tendril that tried to assault him, he rolled on the ground and ended up right between all four Cores, with the tendrils at each Core's corner being just in range of his sword. He took advantage of the opportunity and quickly moved all of his balance to his heel, starting to spin violently and managing to cut two of the Cores' HP clean. Now that they began to shatter into shards bit by bit, eventually disappearing just like any other monster, only two were left.

Before he could come to a stop and get himself in a position aware enough to block any incoming attacks, some tendrils emerged from behind him and struck him on the back, throwing him to the ground with a groan as he lifted his head. Every single Core was damaged of the two left, so it should be one more well timed set of attacks to take them down.

The boy quickly shifted his position to start dashing, keeping his sword aligned with his right shoulder. After having circled one of the Cores to avoid any tendrils trying to dig their way under him and attack, he lunged right at it, slashing a hole through its massive body. The yellow glow his blade emitted was blinding, and by the time he'd made it through its other side, it had begun to shatter already. Now only the other Core was left, and he already knew that the way he was running low on energy, he'd need to take it out quickly.

That's why he kept his momentum and swiftly ran towards it, jumping into the air and spinning twice, hitting the Core until its HP hit zero and the familiar blip sounded. He landed and watched it turn into crystals too, as the spores flying throughout the complex began to grow fewer and fewer. Whatever the reason, it seemed to be over. This whole ordeal with the shroom-people that were attacking everything and invading the outside of the caves, too.

With a quick look around, the boy could guarantee that no NPCs were here. Maybe they had moved out, gotten finished off or they were never there in the first place. No matter the case, he couldn't track them even if they'd been there, and that's all that mattered. If they were there, then they'd been there. If not, that was good too. During that quick, final scan however, he noticed something just further by the side, hiding shyly below where one of the cores floated and obstructed his vision.

He scuttled closer, finally putting away his sword now that nothing dangerous resided in the cave any longer, looking at it and upon crouching, realising that it was in fact, a treasure chest. It'd been a while since he last saw one, but especially somewhere as deep and lonely as here, he couldn't have expected anything like that. What an odd place to spawn more loot in- he'd take it though, it really enforced that sense of finality from before.

This place felt like a small scale dungeon, and if anything, loot was what fit it the most. Hell, that was wrong. What would be best suited for somewhere this far inside the cave was good loot. And that's exactly what he found upon opening the treasure chest. Good loot and nothing else- a few materials, Col almost equal to half of what he'd get from a monster, and a few perfect items to sell or identify at Simmone.

This was enough for him to call it a day and begin heading back. If he took any longer, Blizz would begin to feel lonely after all. He began to backtrack his steps into the cave, looking around the beautiful, calm and now silent darkness that had taken over. The sun had begun to set in Aincrad too, which was probably even better proof that the timing was as on point as it goes. "And now I can go back to Shay and let her know about the news too..! Great!"
