3.0 Question Thread

Recommended Posts

Good evening, SAO-RPG. In an effort to remain as transparent as possible, and assuage as much confusion as we can, this question thread is being released in conjunction with the posting of the "3.0 Conversion Clarifications" blog entry in the Player Guides blog section of the website (which can be found by following [ this ] link).

If there are any questions you have left unanswered by the blog entry, or the official 3.0 Info-Dump, please ask it here so that we can get it answered within a timely manner. It will be addressed within this thread, as well as added to the 3.0 Conversion Clarifications blog entry.

Thank you for your participation.

Regarding the chest opening rolls in the Black Iron Dungeon - It has said that the only things that influence the roll are the Lock Picking skill and familiars. Are keys no longer a thing in 3.0, or are they simply not valid items in the dungeon?

Regarding Extra Skills - how will these be assigned/changed? Do they function like Skill Mods currently function, where you have access to them as long as they're unlocked and you just choose them at the start of threads/swap between encounters? Do they cost resources to reassign like 2.6 skill slots?

Will the quests for combat masteries function like current familiar quests, where there's a loose description of a quest already made that require players to make certain rolls and tick certain boxes, and once these are met the skill is unlocked? Can players have both a familiars and a mastery?

Also, it's been discussed that every player gets a handful of equipment that they can upgrade with them to their current tier at the start of 3.0, along with a free respec. Do all existing, applicable parts of your build come with you, particularly your familiar and profession/rank? If switching to a new profession as part of your respec, do you get to enter as the same rank of the new profession, or do you need to retake Earning a Living/work your way back up with EXP?

I'm sure a lot of this has been addressed at some point in the discord, but it seems prudent to get the most recent updates on these things and have them posted somewhere more official.

Q: Regarding Extra Skills - Do they function like Skill Mods currently function, where you have access to them as long as they're unlocked and you just choose them at the start of threads/swap between encounters?
A: Yes.

Q: Do they cost resources to reassign like 2.6 skill slots?
A: Extra Skills may be swapped as you currently do now with mods (out of combat in threads, and/or before the start of a thread). Assuming this is about refunding the skill, should the Extra Skill in question cost SP, they will need to be refunded through normal SP-refund means. Extra Skills may mostly be obtained by quests in 3.0. Should Extra Skills be obtained via this method, they may not be refunded, but they may be benched until future use.

Q: Will the quests for combat masteries function like current familiar quests, where there's a loose description of a quest already made that require players to make certain rolls and tick certain boxes, and once these are met the skill is unlocked?
A: There is no quest for Combat Masteries. Players are capable of feeding SP into the skill once they hit Tier 2. Players have a requirement of having met Tier 2 status to unlock Combat Masteries.

Q: Can players have both a familiars and a mastery?
A: Yes.

@Shield
Also see above answers from NIGHT.

Q:

A: Keys exist, but for standard chest. Black Iron Dungeon chests are only influenced by the modifiers mentioned in the official literature.

Q: Do all existing, applicable parts of your build come with you, particularly your familiar and profession/rank? If switching to a new profession as part of your respec, do you get to enter as the same rank of the new profession, or do you need to retake Earning a Living/work your way back up with
EXP?
A: For the most part, yes. Your familiar will come with you, and you can spec it into whatever Familiar tree you desire. As far as professions go, your EXP for your profession can convert into the same profession in 3.0. However, if you wish to change to another profession, you will still need to retake EaL and climb back up through the EXP ladder as you would normally.
