Nari turned at the single word from Jomei, her rage broken for the briefest of seconds as she heard the man hit the floor. The cold washed over her, as she realised how out of touch she'd been - how driven by the anger. A feeling that caused her discomfort upon realising. 

"You good?" She called out to the ginger, nodding as he responded in kind. Cautious, the fire gone out from her earlier fury, Nari turned back to face the King. Just in time to see the blade descending towards her, the weapon colliding with her body and sending her flying across the room. She felt the impact as her body slammed into the ground, rolled a few times, and then fell still.

She felt the fear creep up as she saw her indicators flashing - the symbolism telling her what she already knew, as the Frozen ice washed over her, holding her in place. She watched, nimbly as the King seemed to step over towards her, and almost sneer-like expression on its otherwise empty face. Come on you evil looking asshole...I'm far from done. We will take you down, for everything you've done - no matter how long it takes. The curse fell silent as Nari realised she couldn't bring the words alive with her voice, instead content just to think the threat.

Winter's Heart | All successful hits against Modgul Frostblade deal 20 frost thorns damage to the player. Critical hits against him reduce the attacker's EVA and ACC by 1 for 1 round. On a BD 9-10, Modgul applies the Frozen status on his target, immobilizing them and causing them to take an additional 20 damage per hit sustained while immobilized. Modgul himself is immune to the Freeze, Frostbite, Frost Aura and Frost Thorns enhancements and is instead healed by 200 for each successful activation of each of these enhancements against him. Fire enhancements like Burn, Flame Aura and Flame Thorns deal double damage against him.
The King's Summons | Effect depend on current health:
500+ HP: Every fourth round, if there are three or fewer minions under his command, he will summon more to restore his ranks as a Post Action. If there is only one minion remaining he will summon more regardless of the ability's cooldown, which will then reset. He will always attempt to have 1 Ice Skeleton and 3 Frost Skeletons at his side.
<500 HP: Modgul Frostblade absorbs every remaining minion he commands, healing himself for 100 HP per minion absorbed as a Free Action. Afterwards he reverts back to the pattern of summoning minions every fourth round if there are three or fewer minions under his command, or if his numbers fall below two minions. However this time he will only summon Ice Skeletons rather than Frost Skeletons. He can only absorb his minions once.

King's Rage | Should any player generate more than 8 hate from Modgul, he will fly into a furious rage, gaining +1 ACC and +50 DMG to his attacks, but in return his EVA drops by 2. He will attack the player with highest hate once and then make an AoE attack against the entire rest party during this state. King's Rage lasts for two rounds.  When it ends all player hate values are reduced by 8 (to a minimum of 0.)

Nari is Frozen.

"Dammit, Nari!" Jomei would shout out as he watched the ice climb from her wound and spread to the rest of her body, locking her in place. It was a.. weird situation that they were in. Everyone, save for the King himself, were stunned in some sort of way. Jomei, struggling to get up off of the ground due to the slippery ice, the skeletons lock in place from Jomei's attack, and now Nari, encased in ice. The ginger began to scramble on the ground, his hand slipping out from under him as he tried to pick himself up to his feet so he could rush to Nari's side.. possibly take some of the attention off of her. 

However, before he could act, the two skeletons seemed to shake off the stun that Jomei had placed upon them. The flames in their eye sockets flared back to life as they glared down at Jomei, readying their weapons to strike down at the struggling player. The larger skeleton rose a sword upwards, its open maw releasing a deathly hiss as it swung its sword downwards. Jomei was able to push himself out of the way, leaving the blade crashing into the icy floor. The second skeleton, however, rushed at Jomei with a halberd. The freezing, cold tip of the weapon dug deep into Jomei's shoulder. The damage and numbness from the attack wasn't much to bat an eye at.. but the lingering cold that it left within his body was. He could still move, unlike Nari.. but he felt stiff, as if only some of his muscles were freezing up on him. Finally, he was able to get up, and with a shaky, freezing exhale, he prepared himself to finish off the skeletons. 

Nari, on the other hand, was not as lucky. Modugal slowly walked around the frozen player, a cocky smile on their face as they eyed the woman up and down. A triumphant chuckle bubbled up from within, and seemed to boom and echo louder than expected. She was an easy target for him. With a simple, yet forceful swipe from his blade, he would cut through the frozen player. The ice shattered, freeing Nari and knocking her to the ground, but the damage was done. Now with neither of them under a stun, nor the enemies, the fight would continue on.

Nari could only watch as the King descended upon her, his chuckling seeming to echo in her ears. She was helpless do anything, to move out of the way. Unable to even lift an arm to block the incoming strike. She stared at the descending blade, waiting for the impact, unable to even brace herself physically. 

Everything had slowed as the blade had begun to swing, as if time was toying with her. She had watched, breath held, as the edge seemed to inch closer and closer, before hitting the halfway mark of its momentum. Then, just as suddenly, everything had returned to its normal speed. Nari was tossed, suddenly and abruptly, across the room again - directly into a pillar before slamming to the ground. She heard the clatter as her scythe landed beside her, thankfully caught in her grasp as she soared. 

"Ugh...that...that definitely was not nice..." She struggled for a second, before forcing herself to her feet. It still amazed her that even with the pain dampeners, the mind was able to fill in the gaps - that even here, she was able to feel pain when she knew full well there should be none. The wonders of the mind, truly. "Jomei...you good? Cause I'm really starting to not like this guy..."

She cast a quick glance over at the ginger, confirming that there was no immediate worry. They had both felt the pain of the last assault, but Nari had definitely taken the brunt of it - something she could more than live with, even if that was only momentary. "I really...really don't like you. First, you assault a village - for what? Fun and games? Now, you harm my friend. And you want to toss me around like some sort of...doll?"

Her voice was calm and level, her mind collected and cool. She needed to buy a single moment, just enough to let herself recuperate and move again. She tilted her head, eyeing up the King - who seemed to stand over her and watch her movements, her words, as if trying to gauge her. Nari smiled, in response. Neither one of them showed any signs of concern, no signs of backing down - something she could respect, even if she hated the thing.

"Jomei...I do believe this King's rule needs to end. Want to help me with that?" She sprinted forwards, kicking the scythe into motion with her heel as she went, attempting to bring the weapon around towards the King as she closed the short gap between the two of them.

"Fine.. I'm fine." Jomei responded, glancing over to Nari now that she had recovered from being Frozen, "J-Just a little c-cold." It was mostly in part due to whatever that skeleton had done when it hit him with its halberd.. so it would most likely wear off as he run around and continued to fight. "I should be finished with these guys in a moment.. then we can focus on the King." Since there were two less skeletons on the board, Jomei could focus on hitting both the remaining monsters and the King in a single hit. Slowly shuffling his feet on the ice, he kept himself squared up with the two bony warriors, while strategically placing himself close enough to Modgul so that he could get a swift strike in on them as well. 

Shadows clung to the face of his rapier as he turned it in his hand, raising the handle beside his face as he pointed the tip forward. With two, quick stabs, Jomei drove his rapier into the ribcages of the two skeletons, the darkness lashing out from his blade and clinging to their bones. One of the skeletons burst at the point of impact, their bones shattering and falling to the floor in a mangled mess. The second skeleton managed to hold on, gripping at its sternum as it stumbled backwards. Jomei followed up his attack by spinning on the ball of his foot and turning face towards the unsuspecting King. As the shadows left his sword, the blade ignited with a golden, radiant light. A quick slash, he would cut across the chest of the King's armor.

The two remaining enemies, the skeleton and the King, returned fire. Jomei quickly spun around again, catching the skeleton's blade with his own.

Nari ducked beneath a strong, wild swing from the King. Beside her, she watched as Jomei dodged around an assault from his own combatant, avoiding any damage and continuing to press the attack against it - holding it at back and slowly whittling it down. 

She turned to face her own fight, the King standing across from her and preparing for another strong strike, his movements far faster and far more fluid than should have been possible for someone that size and strength. Her scythe sang a ringing hum as it deflected another strike aimed at her torso, forcing her to twist with the impact and slide across the ice a few steps.

"Alright...I'm going to give us some breathing room...I hope. Can you focus on that skeleton?" She didn't turn to look, to see how Jomei was facing - she trusted that he was able to hold his own, to handle the creature without difficulty. For now, she needed to put a pause to the onslaught that things thing was bringing against them - to ensure that they could deal with the smaller creatures, before focusing in earnest on the larger one. "Here we go..."

She waited, watched for the giant of a man to wind himself up, before launching herself forwards and to his right. The scythe hummed slightly as the purple glow spread across it, seeming to cover the blade in a soft shine. At the last second, she forced herself into a twirl, letting the haft slid through her hands ever so slightly in order to increase her reach.

Nari was hyper focused on keeping the King's focus on her while Jomei kept the skeletons off of her back. Easy enough, they had dealt with enough of them that he was getting used to their attack patters, and knew just what sword art combinations to use to make sure he wasn't getting hit by all of them at once. 

That was his though, however, until he noticed the various piles of bones on the ground, the re-dead corpses of the skeletons he had taken out earlier, beginning to tremble and pull themselves back together. Looking over his shoulder at the Night King himself, he could see the man had a hand stretched out towards them.. a strange, sickly blue smoke swirling around his fingertips as he began to revive his small army. There was a snag in his plans, and her name was Nari. With quick thinking, she had landed an attack that left Modgul stunned, frozen in place just at the end of his revivifying spell. It opened a short window of opportunity, and Jomei realized they would need to take it rather than sticking to the original plan.

"Change of plans!" Jomei shouted as he turned his back to the skeleton, "If we let him finish that magic trick, those skeletons will be right back in our faces again. We need to finish this now!" His charge was back, and he saw the timing was right to unleash his strongest sword art. A coincidence, placing itself at just the right moment to be able to end this fight here and now. Lowering himself to the ground, as if his legs were springs being wound up, he positioned himself to launch forward at the King like a bullet. Darkness began to wrap up the length of his rapier once more, engulfing the entire blade in that fallen curse that lurked within. As charge activated, he launched forth, cutting through the air in an instant. When he was no longer a green blur, he was on the opposite side of Modgul, leaving a gaping, wireframe hole in their chest. 

Eyes wide in shock, Frostblade's sword fell to the ground, clanging against the frozen floor. His hands reached for his chest, grasping at armor and skin that was no longer there. Short breaths escaped his parted lips as he fell to his knees, and with a cry of defeat that caused all of the ice around them to crack and spiderweb, the King erupted in an explosion of data and ice fragments.

"I'm sorry, Nari." Jomei apologized, feeling responsible for taking the glory of the final hit. "If this fight went on any longer, we would have been in trouble.." Pointing the rapier back towards the skeleton, he continued. "Lets finish this guy off and go home."

Nari had a brief feeling of movement to her side. She turned her head, trying not to take her eyes off the King before her while also trying to spot what was occurring behind her. Her eyes moved, just in time to catch the glint of Jomei's rapier passing her, slamming itself into the King and causing the man to struggle backwards, his health bar depleting rapidly under the assault of the ginger.

Nari let herself relax slightly, watching as the King slowly died, before bursting into shards and disappearing from existence before them. She felt a single second of cold, calmness as she considered their revenge. They had defeated the King, they had gotten their vengeance for everything he had done and willed against the village...and yet Nari didn't feel any different. It made no change. She knew that the horrors would happen again as soon as the next group came.

"No...don't apologise." She shook her head as Jomei tried to mumble words of apology for taking what he thought was her kill. She felt no anger towards him, just as she felt no joy in the finality that came with the King's end. "We came here to defeat him...as a team. It doesn't matter to me which one of us landed the final blow, only that it was landed. And that we walk away from this place alive."

She turned to look at the skeleton that Jomei had pointed towards with his weapon, just in time to see it explode as the Winter's Heart unleashed its final vengeance upon the world. Her hair seemed to float around her, for a second, as the burst of wind pushed outwards. Nari felt herself smile, suddenly, as she realised it was over.

"Hey...Jomei?" She turned to smile at the man, the grin slowly growing with each passing second as her enthusiasm suddenly grew. "We beat the bastard...and walked away without too much pain. A damned good job, if you ask me...and it's all because of you. Your help. Thank you."

Hearing a burst behind him, Jomei turned his eyes to look at where the skeleton once stood. Like a pile of snow against a strong gust, the bones were swept away in an instant. The storm raging outside of the windows seemed to calm, becoming nothing more than a soft snowfall. Even the throne and the ice they stood on softened and began to melt away. The ginger also felt his worries about the fight against the King and his armies melt away, as his whole body seemed to relax at once with a heavy exhale. "Thats a relief.." he would say to himself as he gently slid his rapier back into its home on his hip.. the danger of Modgul Frostblade now a thing of the past.

"Hm?" The ginger would turn in the woman's direction as she called out his name, his eyebrows raising curiously at what she had to say. His lips curled into a kind smile as she thanked him, giving him all of the credit for the two of them making it through the quest line in one piece. Humbly, Jomei shook his head as he turned his body to full face Nari. "I can't take all of the credit.. there is no way I would have been able to handle this on my own. We really had each others' backs today.. That's the reason we were able to win in the end. Don't sell yourself short, you did just as much as I did out there."

Most of the ice that clung to the throne room had melted, albeit until the two were far enough away from the castle, so Cardinal could 'reset' the quest for the next set of players. However, Jomei still felt accomplished.. like he had really done something for that town and the people of this floor. They may not remember the two of their names, but at least within their own minds they were heroes. "Alright, lets get off of this mountain and back someplace warmer."

Nari gave a single final glance towards where the King had fallen. Perhaps they hadn't changed anything in the end, perhaps the village folk and the entire world would never know of what the two of them did here today. But they would know. They would be aware, for the remainder of their days, of what they had managed. "So long as we live..."

Nari smiled at the thought, before following Jomei out of the hall and back towards the entrance. The mention of finding somewhere warmer reminded her that not everyone in the game was used to, or enjoyed the cold weather. She glanced around once more at the now-melting snow that had once covered the entirety of the keep. "You know...this place might have been nice, once. Maybe it was...long ago. In a different time."

Shrugging, she turned and left the keep behind, along with the horrors that she knew would continue to plague her for the coming nights. Still, she felt enthused to know that she had finally managed to finish the quest line - all thanks to the ginger man's help. She knew she never would have managed it without him, even if he was trying to be modest and share the credit.
