Freyd 0 Posted Monday at 05:38 PM #1 Share Posted Monday at 05:38 PM (edited) Head still buzzing, amber liquid sloshing around the glass re-summoned to do its duty as he foolishly tested the limits of a glitch that left him with an inexplicable condition flashing in the corner of his interface. Freyd was mildly inebriated, at least by his own unreliable assessment. Another sip, flavour full of burning, yet mostly smooth, he clenched his teeth after swallowing it down. Like that might somehow help or something? Elora had been blissfully patient and kind, but bringing home another woman wasn't exactly the sort of thing a partner would ignore, nor should expect to without thorough explanation. It just wasn't one Freyd was looking forward to providing while drunk, even if only a teeny-weeny tad so. Mari being Mari was an added complication, plus their history, plus the glaring Eye of Sauron hovering over her head. The drifting edges of his brain wondered if her cursor opened like a cats' eye when she slept. That would be so cool, but also totally Sauron.... "Thanks for your help," he offered, a little more woozily and glassy-eyed than she'd ever seen him. "Mari... that's Mari, by the way," his thumb jerked behind him accidentally pointing towards Reliq, who'd embedded himself into her favourite cookie jar. "Anyway... she put herself in jail, see, for like two years. Because..." double barrel finger twirls pointed over this head, where his own green cursor fizzled momentarily like an aging neon sign. Anyone might legitimately expect the 'r' in his name to go out at any moment, with supremacy of irony if his own consciousness were to Feyd at the very same moment. "So... she got out... got let out? Made it out, somehow, and we ran into each other in the twenty-nines..." Brows furrowed, trying to piece together what that meant. "But she's in a bad way. And we go way back, so like... way-way, you know? And I was so mean to her back then, because I thought she was so cool, and I saw her in this trippy dream once, that couldn't have been a dream, because, like... everybody had it. The dream. She was like... wow! And everybody had that same dream! That was so weird... and she looked like she could such a good leader..." The last of the latest tumbler content sloshed down his throat, eroding the only remaining vestiges of his equilibrium, leaving only a rather wobbly Whisper behind. "But she'jj really nishe, in a self-deshtwuctive 'I don't wanna murder peoples no more' kinda way. And she could jdoo sho mush good if she jush shtopped shabotajing hershelf, yanno?" A tiny hiccup nearly bowled him over. "Sho, I figures, she jush weely needsh a plashe to cwash for a bit until she can short shome shtuff out... and then... and... then..." *THUNK* That was as far as he would get, at least until morning, when the toll would come due and no amount of antidotes could ever possibly suffice. Head resting between his own forearm and the tile on the kitchen island, the Whisper in Shadow snored like a drunken purring kitten as he slept. Inside his noodley noggin, dreams were turning into tangled green and orange hair-like webs, from which he feared he would could find no escape... *** @Mari @Elora Note: CS (Shades of the Gemini) and CSA (Beckon the Void) are in use. Elora 0 Posted Tuesday at 04:24 PM #2 Share Posted Tuesday at 04:24 PM A comforting patchwork quilt gently swaddled around her beloved as Elora resisted the teensy-weensy urge to straggle him into an eternal slumber. Surely, a simple knot and a concerted twist of the wrists would see the job done. There was plenty of leverage and more than enough strength to -- she dismissed the intrusive thought with a sharp drawing in of her breath. What in the actual hell was he thinking? Bringing a player-killer into our house?! How are we going to -- how can he think that that's safe?" Elora was acutely familiar with the disorienting nature of a few stiff drinks. Even still, they couldn't have excused such a severe and utter lack of judgement, and by the likes of Freyd, of all people! Scenes of a maniacal ringmaster flashed across her memory as she stalked from their kitchen and out into the hallway. Sparing only a moment to glance in the direction of their guest room, she silently hastened to the second floor. Unexpected gratitude came in the form of a fastened deadbolt as she spun to rest against their bedroom door. Mari, the name echoed in Elora's mind, Wasn't that...the player involved with Chaser? She remembered the day Freyd had called that guild meeting, the evidence he had shared - a slew of messages exchanged between the three of them. An anxious pace carried her to the far wall as she struggled to recall their contents. There was an invitation to talk, what has truly served as bait to an ambush. It was something to do with Mari...the way he'd hurt her? No -- Chaser had accused Freyd of hurting her. So she...sent Chaser off to challenge Freyd...? Flopping onto the mattress, she rolled onto her side. Perhaps she was misremembering details. Had Freyd explained his interaction with Mari? There had to be a reason he had hurt her. Maybe he was defending himself. Maybe she had tried to hurt him. He could have...gotten too close... Suddenly awash in a current of worry, she seized the empty pillow beside her and clung to it tightly. As the last halos of twilight were lost to darkness, a racing conscious skewed ever-slowly into the rhythms of a blurry lullaby. --- Heavy eyelids found difficulty in greeting the morning as searing columns of light beamed directly into her retinas. A beleaguered yank of the cotton sheets caused the translucent fabric to balloon around her. Cold air billowed across her skin as she curled into a shivering ball. Disgruntled and exhausted, she muttered beneath her breath, "weirb dream..." Remembrance dawned on her as she roused from her sleep. Wait -- did that really -- is he still --? Scrambling to leave bed in a decent fashion, Elora felt like a firefighter racing to douse a potential flame. Or in this case, prevent a fatal stabbing? Buttons haphazardly fastened; she threw on a black shirt with a lopsided overhang. Feet quickly, quietly, shuffled their way down a wooden staircase with a carpeted runner. Another second spared to glance down their hallway. Making her way into the kitchen, she nearly stumbled over the crumpled form of a sprawled out drunkard. Had he migrated in his sleep? In either case, guttural snores signified that he was still breathing -- if only barely. *** Elora | HP: 760/760 | EN: 110/110 | DMG: 24 | MIT:78 | ACC:8 | AA | EVA:3 | BH:38 | REC: 4 | FLN: 8 | BLI: 32/-20 | STC: 40 | LD:2 Spoiler Name: Elora True Tier: 6 Level: 33 Paragon Level: 19 HP: 760/760 EN: 110/110 Stats: Damage: 24 Mitigation: 78 Accuracy: 8 Evasion: 3 Battle Healing: 38 Loot Die: 2 Stealth Rating: -2 AA REC: 4 FLN: 8 BLI: 32/-20 STC: 40 Equipped Gear: Weapon/Armor/Trinket: - Essential Verdigris (T4 Dem Polearm | AA | BGT | FLN | STC) Armor/Trinket: - Defense Mechanism (T4 Dem LA | MIT 2, REC 2) Shield/Armor/Trinket: - Emerald (T4 Dem Trinket | ACC 3, EVA 1) Combat Mastery: - Combat Mastery: Damage R3 Combat Shift: - AOE Shift Familiar Skill: - Scouting Familiar Custom Skill: - Skills: - Battle Healing R5 - Charge - Energist - Light Armor R5 - Polearm R5 - Searching R2 Extra Skills: - Concentration Inactive Extra Skills: Addons: - Focus - Precision - Resolve - Stamina Mods: - Meticulous Inactive Mods: Battle Ready Inventory: - T1 Healing Potion x5 - T1 Overhealth Potion x5 - Teleportation Crystal x1 Housing Buffs: - Bedroom: -1 energy cost for the first two expenditures of each combat - Bathroom: The first time you would suffer DoT damage in a thread, reduce damage taken from DoT each turn by 20% (rounded down) - Basic Kitchen: Increase the effectiveness of a single food item consumed in a thread by +1 T1 slot. Mari 1 Posted 16 hours ago #3 Share Posted 16 hours ago A bed… Something so simple, and yet - it was something the woman had been denied not for days, but for years even before prison - she had denied herself such a comfort. She had denied herself soft pillows and a heavy blanket - a warm nights sleep. When was the last time she had one of those? Mari couldn’t remember. Even lying there awake - as the morning rays burned her eyes beneath closed eyelids, Mari had to wonder if this was real. She stretched and felt the blanket shift with her. Linen. She smelt clean linen. Mari almost didn’t want to open her eyes, she didn’t want this moment to end. A part of her, in the far corners of her mind screamed at her - you don’t deserve this. You’re tainted The last thing you deserve is a soft bed. Not with the lives you’ve taken Mari groaned as she sat up, she had to push those thoughts away. Freyd invited her here. She was safe. “Last night…” Mari mumbled. Right…she had run into him on that abysmal floor - they got drunk. Then….he took her home. At least she didn’t feel hungover. Mari sighed as she finally pushed herself out from beneath the covers. Her shoes had been placed neatly by the side of the bed. How thoughtful. Mari didn’t want to disturb anyone. She hadn’t met Elora, but Freyd spoke fondly of her. She was the one who had somehow managed to turn him into a semi decent human being. In other circumstances…Mari would like to thank her, but this was awkward at best. He had dragged her through the door, dripping wet and drunk. A sluggish hand lifted to navigate through her inventory till a simple stack of paper, and a pen landed in her lap. Mari wrote, albeit messily a note to him. Freyd. Thank you for letting me stay at your home. I didn’t want to be a bother so I’ll take my leave before anyone wakes. Take Care. -Mari. She folded the paper neatly in half and put it in her mouth as she quickly busied herself making the bed. Straightening the sheets, fluffing the pillows. Then - she placed the note neatly in the center of the bed - it would not be missed. A square of white against the dark colours of the bedding. Mari picked up her shoes and slowly, quietly opened the door. She peered down the hall - dust motes danced in the early morning light - and she could hear a slight snoring coming from elsewhere in the house. She snorted slightly, never expecting Freyd to be the kind to do such a thing. He always seemed so robotic. Mari tip-toed down the hallway - holding her breath, as though the slightest sound would send the world crashing down around her. All she had to do was go through the kitchen, then leave - it’d be easy as - …. Oh. Mari stood like a deer in headlights. Orange hair disheveled, eyes tired despite having slept soundly. One foot still hung mid-air, and her shoes dropped carelessly to the floor, clattering. One rolling forward and landing just before Freyd. There, in the kitchen stood a woman with hair that reminded Mari of frost touched grass. Her azure eyes were wide. Mari could feel them on her, she could see now they darted up to the angry cursor above her head then down to her. “Uhm….” Crap. Mari wasn’t expecting this. “Hi? E-Elora Right? Mari. I’m Mari.”
Elora 0 Posted 7 hours ago #4 Share Posted 7 hours ago A spinning cinnabar cursor captivated Elora's attention as soon as she turned to regard Mari. If only for a moment, her eyes became transfixed by its scarce appearance. Then, the gravity of what it signified. I wonder who she killed., came an immediate curiosity. It was strange, novel even, for the thought to carry any weight. Every day, players eagerly slaughtered monsters and pre-programmed characters. Killing, like most of their lives in Aincrad, had become routine. Just another day's work. “Uhm….”, she barely heard above the cognitive noise, “Hi? E-Elora Right? Mari. I’m Mari.” So Freyd had already mentioned her. Should she be surprised? Eyes peeled away from the suspended crystal, drifting down to scrutinize the woman below. Orange hair., she noted for its uniqueness. Straight sections of thick, unruly locks framed a pale and freckled face. Chiseled, yet somehow soft, her tired features suggested a depth beyond those of a caricatured serial killer. Elora's sights settled to a definite focus on a set of gorgeous cerulean eyes. Silent seconds passed as blue bore on blue. A prolonged and unsettling exchange. "Geidmirning.", she managed to greet through tensed jaw, a subdued Irish accent lilting her words. Motion in the form of a brief wobble coaxed her to glance further down. Hunched in an awkward pose, Mari set her opposite foot and slowly reached to reclaim a renegade shoe. Why was -- had she been carrying her shoes...?, wondered Elora. A sweeping glance confirmed the other to have tumbled quite a bit further away, resting just before a now-stirring Freyd. Sights returned to Mari to find her looking....apologetic.....ashamed..? Brows furrowed as Elora unexpectedly found herself in the other woman's shoes. Memories of nights spent out far too late, downing far too many pints of alcohol, staggering back into her parents' house, and praying not to get caught. For all the fun that came with adolescent's reckless flings of escapism, there was always the gamble of a harsh and sobering consequence. To think she feared a similar retribution in their home...it somehow didn't sit right with her. Suddenly uncertain of her own judgements, Elora found herself shifting balance between her legs; a chaotic dance between the stubbornness to intimidate and an instinct to diffuse the thwarted scheme. "We don't have a genkan.", she bluntly stated, aptly recalling one of the many architectural terms that Freyd had espoused to her during their home's construction. "You can keep your shoes on inside..." With a held stare, Elora forced a crudely congenial smirk, offering the feign of a cultural misunderstanding.
Freyd 0 Posted 5 hours ago Author #5 Share Posted 5 hours ago (edited) Smacking a pair of dry lips parched by horror-laden sea air and the unintelligible burblings of tentacle pirate custodians, Freyd woke with a start. A glacial chill creeping down his spine, internal spidey senses attuned to pending domestic disharmony keened in a pitch high enough to make banshees and falsettos blush. Head perking, eyes still mostly bleary and tethered shut by the after effects of drink, his clothing crunched disturbingly as he moved. Why do I smell like a mixture of campfire, wet mimic and the comforts of home?! Moving sluggishly, like he’d been swallowed whole by the Micheline man, it took a moment and the pinching of dusty fingers to realize that someone had draped something thick and considerate over top of him. A death shroud? Overactive imagination jumped to him to strangely fathomed waking from years of blissful nightmare into some sterile hospital room. His tripping hamster somehow fully expected to discover that the whole SAO thing had been nothing but an allergic reaction, drinking binge, and bad bit of ramen. But his face still felt flattened on the one side from an overnight rest pressed against the pretty painted tiles Elora had picked out. Each one with a different mushroom or flower, they'd carefully arrayed them together in a playful dance to cheer on whoever’s turn it was to cook that night. Even now, the glaze had a particular scent that had become synonymous with happiness and cut through all other delusions. Something rolly nudged his foot. Borris? Too soft. Not enough raw rumbling chaos or clatter. Gingerly rubbing the sleep from his right eye, unsuccessfully, the Whisper's ears filled with the grumble of a deep-seated groan as he fought against his own starch-petrified clothing. Soaked and left to solidify beneath his blanketed plate armor, it felt like he’d been marinating in his own frigid tuna tin all night. Everything was stiff and knotted, wiry muscles protesting defiantly, the fires of their body landlord’s furnace unaccustomed to any notion of cooling, so frantic was his ridiculously and unrelenting pace. "Geidmirning." Heard as if his ears were smothered beneath an acoustically lined case of helmet head, Freyd clearly still wasn’t fully awake. “Gurb mjorning…” he mumbled back, wiggling cheeks and facial whiskers around in search for enough saliva to lubricate his mouth back into working order. A blind and instinctual wave of his hand dismissed his midnight samurai suit, sloughing off the quilt in the process, which promptly swallowed one half of Mari’s wayward footwear. Aching, Freyd reached over his own head to snare a crinkley fold of ebonweave, fumbling to remove his shirt. In his head he was already bound for the shower, only to be undone when his elbow caught in the crusty cloth. One eye poking out from beneath the neck of his rebellious shirt, limbs trapped in what should have been routine undressing, it opened wider as his consciousness finally stirred, only to find two pairs of brilliant blue eyes watching as he somehow dug himself a deeper metaphorical hole. Exposed, in ghostly glowing blue rents across his side, were faint outlines of the five lethal claw marks that had actually been the death of him, yet also somehow not. “I... err... oh boy…” And then, as if by Fate's quirky and cue, the stool he'd somehow managed to balance and sleep on all night gave way, spilling and sprawling a loudly crashing Whisper all over the kitchen floor.
