While the information provided by this floor wasn't as typical as it had been in the past, there was an air about the 29th floor that carried with it a tension and anticipation. It was going to be soon, very very soon. Despite their goal being to keep the spectral knights, and any other wandering monsters, from using the warp gates to invade lower floors, Jomei needed to take the time to prepare himself. When it came to prepping for boss raids, he was very careless. Never purchasing consumables until the last minute, and never even looking into the unique items offered as rewards for quests. If he was going to be a frontline tank and keep his friends alive, that would need to change. Standing under the quick canopy that they had built over Floor 29th warp gate, a short respite from the rain, Jomei would send out a quick message to any frontliners. Quote To : Frontliners Looking to grab a Bizarre Antidote from a quest on Floor 18. Meet me in Eriwald if you're interested. Jomei Once the posting was out, Jomei would speak the name of the settlement on the 18th floor. He was looking forward to a little break from the storming rain, even if it wasn't the full break he needed. As his body materialized onto the new floor, he was greeted with the crack of thunder as droplets of rain fell onto the top of his head from the trees above. Freyd 0 Posted 6 hours ago #2 Share Posted 6 hours ago (edited) Sopping wet and dripping dregs from the twenty-ninth as he emerged from the teleporter, a puddle instantly formed around Freyd just from him standing there for a moment. "Gah... I swear I've been soaked for a year straight. There's nothing but a giant raisin left under my cowl!" Peeling off the garment plastered to his noggin produced a sickly slurp and sent shivers down his frigid spine. "That floor just sucks the will to live from your bones, yanno?" Blue eyes blinking as they surveyed their surrounding, they seemed rather disappointed. "I can't say this place is much of an improvement. Honestly, I often forget it even exists. Jomei! You around here somewhere? I can't get the wipers on my eyeballs working." No matter how much he swished away with his hands, it's like a lake's worth of water was slowly dribbling out of his matted hair. Impatient and cold, Freyd shook his head around like a dog instead, spraying everything within ten feet with his splatter. *** Note: CS (Shades of the Gemini) and CSA (Beckon the Void) are in use. Wulfrin 0 Posted 5 hours ago #3 Share Posted 5 hours ago (edited) The message flashed across his vision as Wulfrin started out of his stupor. Since the Spectral Knights had started running wild on Floor 29, Wulfrin was treasuring whatever nuggets of sleep he could get away with stealing. Between Taking down field bosses to ensure nothing was affecting them, keeping the battle front stocked, and fending off the knights, Wulfrin was running on fumes. He lost count of how many straight days he'd been at this seemingly futile effort. Wulfrin awoke amidst the ruins of The Tracker's Alliance base on Floor 29. He wasn't sure when it was destroyed, but he had been doing his best to keep the forge alive. Like a zombie, Wulfrin shambled his way towards the teleport gate and whisked himself away to floor 18. His body was on auto pilot, but even without input from himself, he arrived at the caravan's loading zone. "Present," Wulfrin yawned, desperately trying to blink the tired away. Jomei 0 Posted 5 hours ago Author #4 Share Posted 5 hours ago Freyd and Wulfrin were quick to respond, and in person too. When Jomei hadn't received any personal messages back, he figured everyone was either busy.. or just didn't want to accompany him. However, when the two men emerged from the warp gate - each looking just as soaked and exhausted as he - he would offer them a tired smile and a wave. He was relieved someone heeded the call, and if it was the two of them he was working with, they would be finished with this quest in no time. "Yo" he called out to Freyd before walking over to greet them. "Honestly... surprised you showed up, given how many of those knights you took out. You're probably more exhausted than the rest of us." He would pat his friend on the shoulder, tilting his head slightly to look him in the eyes. "Remember, you're not invincible. I don't think Cardinal will be as graceful if you end up taking a hit like that again." His gaze would turn to Wulfrin, "Good to see you too Wulfrin. Lets not waste any time then. If we finish this up quick enough, maybe we can earn ourselves a quick rest before heading back into the fray." Jomei was unfamiliar with the quest, the fine details at least, but he knew who to talk to to initiate it. A traveling merchant just trying to get back home could be found with his face in a mug of ale within one of the taverns on the floor. Oh how Jomei wished the roles were reversed, but he would get his moment again soon. "Heard you're looking for an escort." Jomei sank into the space at the bar beside Gyrard, and their eyes met the ginger. They went over the specifics, how they needed protection from wolf-like creatures that attacked his caravan every time he's make the trip to and from Serpent's Pitch. Looking over his shoulder at Wulfrin and Freyd, Jomei would nod "Alright, you get the wagon ready. We'll meet you outside of town." //Jomei consumes: Gungir’s Shard (Untradeable/Unique/Reusable Consumable): Smokin' Hot Honey Bun Tray | ACC 2 | EVA 2 | Feast (4/6) Thanks Freyd! Freyd 0 Posted 4 hours ago #5 Share Posted 4 hours ago (edited) "Duly noted," Freyd replied, nodding his appreciation for Jomei's concern. "Not something I think either one of us are interested in repeating." A sideways glance shared with Wulfrin was all they required to agree. "And, besides, it seems we all have significant others to care for these days." Wulfrin's wedding had been long in the planning and execution, but he and Ciela seemed happy and perfect for each other. Jomei and Lessa's coziness on the battlefield had hardly gone unnoticed. Freyd had welcomed it, silently, thankful for any expression of passionate bonds to help them all stave off the dark and the madness. "I'm happy for you both," he added, mutely. Topics of love and romance were hardly his kettle of fish. Greetings given, he steered them quickly towards Gyrard, eagerly seeking a topic change away from the mushier things. Pairing death talk with dreams of verdant hair didn't sit well. Facing down gnashing venomous teeth was infinitely more comforting. Hovering by the door, sipping a steaming summoned cup of vanilla scented tea while Joms did most of the talking, it helped warm his bones a little. Not that this floor had much sun, but at least there was a bit of a breeze to help dry out his armor. Gyrard also gave him a skeptical warning from beneath his bushy brows, suggesting it might be best not to soak his shop floor. Once hands had been shaken and agreements sealed, the Whisper turned his attention to the journey ahead. Cargo quickly surveyed and secured, he climbed up on the wagon and found a suitable spot. The others would see him close his eyes, shadows leaning in protectively to shroud the wagon. "Not sure how much it will help, but thought I might give this a try. Wouldn't be much of a quest without trouble ahead, would it?" *** Freyd uses Barrier (15 EN, CD 0/2) Freyd | HP: 1360/1360 | EN: 153/168 (168-15) | DMG: 21 | MIT:152 | ACC:4 | AA | TAUNT | F-SPIRIT | EVA:2 | BH:75 | VAMP-D: 75 | VAMP-O: 150 | PARA-V | LD:5 | Barrier 0/2 1 post made. Wulfrin 0 Posted 3 hours ago #6 Share Posted 3 hours ago "Cart would make for good bait," Wulfrin yawned finally managing to return to some semblance of mental function. "Let the wards come to us." Wulfrin shambled into the cart after letting off another huge yawn. He materialized in his hand a mug of some fizzy liquid, which he quickly chugged. The pseudo feeling of a soft drink flowing into him caused the briefest of life to return. "I'll take the top," Wulfrin said as he made his way to the top of the stacked crates that filled the caravan wagon. From the sky above, a phonix came to rest on his shoulder as Wulfrin readied for the long road ahead. "Should be cake. The last few times I've run this the wargs were push overs. The three of us should have no problems." Shadows began to cling to the wagon forming a sort of protective barrier. Wulfrin raised an eyebrow towards the resting Whisper. Wulfrin had used their shared shadowmancy more offensively as of late, so seeing a new defensive use got a couple of his wheels turning. Their shared skill had so much untapped potential. * * * 1 Post made. Riding in Caravan
Jomei 0 Posted 3 hours ago Author #7 Share Posted 3 hours ago Jomei's smile softened, "It's the beginnings of something.. We don't really know what to make of it yet but.." shoulders would fall, as if a weight was lifted off of them, "Its just nice something to have right now. A really nice something." His smile found his eyes as he reiterated it. He was happy with where they were, and, if it didn't go anywhere, he would still be happy. But he would be lying if he said he didn't want this relationship to blossom. *** Securing a seat on the back of the wagon, Jomei would knock on the wooden surface twice to let Gyrard know they were ready to move. The steer-like animal at the front of the cart would snort and grunt as the merchant beckoned it to move. Its hooves would dig into the soft ground beneath them, dragging the cargo and passengers down the road towards Serpent's Pitch. From the rear of the wagon, Jomei looked down at the wheel tracks left in their wake, one leg dangled over the edge while the other pulled into his chest. He watched the landscape as they passed by, every bubbling swamp and low hanging tree. Narrowing his eyes, he started to notice the shadows. They were moving and shifting, just slightly, without regard for the suns position. He recognized this as Freyd's work, and Wulfrin too, if he recalled correctly. Turning in his seat, he would look towards his two comrades with a smirk, "Alright, I've been meaning to ask. How do you two do that? I've seen you both use the shadows to your advantage... but I've never seen anything like it before. Always felt limited to the skills the system allows." While shadow work may not be his cup of tea, if he could develop some new skill to give him a unique edge, he would take it. // 1 Post Riding in Caravan
Wulfrin 0 Posted 2 hours ago #8 Share Posted 2 hours ago (edited) “Truth is,” Wulfrin replied as he watched the shadows clung to their caravan. “I still don’t fully understand it. Freyd taught it to me a while back when I asked him about The Gemini.” Wulfrin thought back to everything he had witnessed Freyd accomplish. The similarities between how Freyd acted and The Gemini were too many to discount a connection. Wulfrin’s own Gemini had seemingly became a tag along since Wulfrin’s previous run in with the troubled mob. ”I’m investigating the connection between it and The Gemini, but I’ve not turned up any leads.” As he finished, the cart lurched as three distinct impacts sounded against the wooden exterior of The Caravan. The shadow barrier provided by Freyd seemed to lessen the blows, but as Wulfrin had suspected, the Poison Snapper and its wolf companions had ambushed their little party. Wulfrin focused on the shadows around him and dissolved to join them. Utilizing the void around them, Wulfrin struck the three assailants simultaneously. * * * Ambush: Warg and Wolves attack first Poison Snapper vs The Caravan ID 246626 | BD 10 (Major Crit) +2 DMG | 102-15=87 DMG to The Caravan. Freyd 0 Posted 2 hours ago #9 Share Posted 2 hours ago (edited) "You have it backwards," Freyd replied, sounding reticent to tell the tale while hanging off the edge of the speeding caravan wagon. The massive mutant warg bellowed in frustration at the sudden loss of its pack, but still gave chase. "The skill didn't come first. Shadow did. That's with a capital 'S', as in 'Mr.Shadow' himself - the boss from the floor 26 labyrinth. Shadow the Malevolent, as officially titled." The warg lunged, losing the tip of its nose for its trouble. Freyd's keen reflexes were just waiting for it to be predictably stupid. This was hardly the most devious or resourceful of Cardinal's horde. "That was a tough fight, with Shadow's essence possessing Orgoth, the minotaur champion. We had to fight him first. Remember, Jomei? You were there." A bump in the road nearly jostled them off their ride, which landed unevenly and nearly tipped twice before they brought it back under control. "There was a moment in the fight, where something connected me with that boss, through my weapon. I can't explain it, and don't particularly care to remember it, but... that was when it all started. The stuff with the gemini... I guess you could call it a related affinity. But the two flow from the same source." The Snapper threw itself at the cart, trying to leap aboard but meeting Freyd's plated fist instead. It skittered to a halt and fell behind. Not content to leave their enemy able to returned, the Whisper launched himself off the wagon and speared it with his blade. Tumbling into dark underbrush beyond, he reappeared just as suddenly from a shaded corner, scaring the willies out of poor Gyrard. "Yeah. So... it's kinda complicated..." *** Reference 1 from Lab 26 boss fight: Spoiler “And this scrawny one! So dark, so brooding, so frail that he can’t decide whether to stand in light or dark. Actually, I think I like him! Yes, let’s use him next, after Steak-boi is spent.” Dozens of writhing black tendrils lunged from the shadows at the room’s edge, piercing Freyd through and lashing at the same concealing clothing Shadow had previously singled out with his dare. Two inky tentacles wrapped themselves around his head, dissolving his cowl just as the rest of him was flensed by the rest of the rippling swarm. His clothes and mask were torn, parts fading to translucence by an attack intended to target the spirit instead of the flesh. Where red eyes should have been, only two black orbs remained, though the Whisper seemed to be straining with every available ounce of available will to keep his body from slipping beyond his control. Jomei 0 Posted 1 hour ago Author #10 Share Posted 1 hour ago He wore an expression of confusion, brows scrunching as he turned to look at Wulfrin. "The Gemini, you mean that that quest at the waterfall?" It had been a very very long time since he had heard of that quest, let alone complete it. Jomei never thought of it much more than some quest that makes you do some self reflecting. Movement in the tree line behind Wulfrin caught his attention, and Jomei rose to a knee while bracing himself on some of the roped down cargo. "We've got company." Jomei would say in voice only Freyd and Wulfrin could hear. Two wolves and something else, bigger and uglier, emerged from the brush and ran alongside the wagon. A mixture of teeth and claws ripped away some of the wood from the side of the cart, causing it to nearly topple as Gyrard struggled to get the steer under control. As the two men fought on, Freyd cleared up exactly how he had learned to control the shadows, or more specifically, The Shadow. Jomei nodded, "Yeah.. I remember. I also remember waking up that next day and everything felt.. different." He would rub his hand on the nape of his neck as memories of that day flooded his memory.. what he could remember, at least. "We can talk about this later, for now we should.." The wolves were gone. The warg was gone. The fight was over. Jomei plopped back down in his seat with a chuckle, "You know, when you two showed up, I knew it would be a really simple quest run.. I wasn't expecting you both to make such quick work of that." Guess he got a bit of the break he wanted after all.
