SP-F10: 'Hello Darkness my Old Friend'

Recommended Posts

"You'd think this would pose a bit more of a challenge..." Mari muttered to herself. That was that, she thought. She had looked through the entirety of the first floor. Of course... she doubted the boss floor would be that simple to find. She went forward and headed up the stairs, her heels echoing on the barren floor around her. It was clear that the entire floor had been cleared out. That both Zel and Ryu were smart enough to NOT enter the trap room.

Mari headed up the stairs and onto the entrance way to the next floor, again it seemed to part off in three directions. Mari again. Chose to go left.

The path seemed to curve around. Mari didn't like paths that did this, they disorientated her. Luckily it didn't branch off into anything else. It was just the thin long, winding corridor - that felt as though it had a decline as she walked. Mari groaned, that meant that if she had to double back, she'd be walking uphill. That was not  one of her favourite things to do. The room contained another chest, and what Mari guessed was another trap. Mari didn't bother entering it. She turned around and made her way back to the main corridor.

Mari knew that there would be a corridor opposite her, once she emerged from the semi spiral. That would be the right corridor. If she was looking at it from the view of the stairs. Logically, that would be the best way to go next. As the straight corridor would no doubt twist and turn, and lead up to another floor. Mari knew that this was a waste of time, that she should skip all these floors and start heading up, but she just couldn't do that right now.

Straight ahead there was a small corridor, that lead to yet another empty room. Mari left, turning once to kick the door that had closed. "Stupid F**king waste of time." She muttered.

Why was she bothering with this again? She wasn't sure...

She certainly didn't have the drive to continue on and complete this game. Maybe it was out of spite. A part of her wanted to make it to the 99th floor, only to stand before all the players - and at their last sign of hope turn around and kill as many of them as she could. Sure, she'd die, but she'd take out as many people as possible before she did, however that was just a passing thought.

Mari turned back into the Main corridor. There was a long path going both left and straight, but a smaller path going to her right. Mari chose to go to the right. Another Dead end.

Turning down the left path Mari came across the next door rather quickly, she tried to open it, but it wouldnt budge. She heaved her weight against it, but again it wouldn't budge. "What the?" Mari wondered if there was some prerequisite for opening the door, if that was the case, she had to guess it wasn't the boss room. She decided to ignore it, and continue forward. Mari stopped in her tracks. Noticing that the stairs leading up were here.

Should she continue up? Or turn back to explore the rest of the floor?

Mari shook her head, she didn't want to risk it, she turned away from the stairs and headed back down toward the main corridor, this time heading straight. However, it seemed like heading straight was a big waste of time, as the only thing before her was a big, empty platform. That looked like one would be able to walk right off the edge and into the unknown, perhaps to fall to their certain death. Of course, without Night Vision there was a very likely chance of that happening. Mari shrugged, serves any idiot right for wandering around without a viable light source.

She decided to head back toward the stairs.

As Mari climbed the stairs she couldn't help but notice that her surroundings seemed to get....lighter? It was difficult to tell with her Night Vision, as things looked more or less the same, except with an odd film over her vision. Mari had to stop as she reached the top of the stairs, there was nothing but a big, long, corridor that she couldn't see the end of. Did she go the right way? Was there another set of stairs she missed?

"Mmmm..." Mari sighed, pausing to  crouch down on her knees, going over her map again. No... no she was sure she didn't miss anything. But that corridor looked like it went on forever, and there was still nary a monster to be seen. Or Zel, or even Ryu for that matter.

Yup. Mari was sure she didn't miss anything. She stood up, stretching as she continued on her way. The corridor seemed to go on for a long time, despite walking straight for several minutes it appeared as though she had gotten nowhere, Mari glanced behind her, just ot make sure she hadn't missed anything by mistake.

...

No, she hadn't. Mari scratched her head, realizing that her hair was puffier than usual, humidity maybe? She was feeling tired and drained, but she wanted to keep going. Isn't that what Alkor would have wanted her to do? Or something stupid and sentimental like that.

Mari noticed a big, looming door ahead of her. This door seemed different to the others. Ornate...large...white...Mari's eyes widened as she quickened her pace. Had she found it? Really? Mari stopped just short of the door.

"Wait.."

Something wasn't right...where were the others? Mari whipped her head back and forth, there was a small path down to her left, but there is no way someone would ignore these doors and go down there, right? Mari cleared her throat.

"Ello?"

She called out, there was no answer though, she felt her throat close up, this was unnerving. Still...perhaps she did miss something somewhere. Mari placed both hands on the doors, taking a few deep  breaths to steady her breathing before pushing it open.

WAITING ON GM CONFIRMATION FOR NIGHT VISION SIGHT OF THE BOSS

What Mari saw when she opened the door, was unexpected.  It was dark inside. A large cavern in a perfect circular shape, the ceiling is only slightly taller than the boss, filled with paper lanterns that barely lit up the entire room, rather - it seemed that at this moment, they were unlit. There were large stones littered around the floor, which seemed to be a pale blue in colour. Some towered high over Mari.  The boss stands at the center of room and four dragon humanoids, measuring about the same height as the stones, stand in front of it, two males and two females.

The boss, the name that floated above it 'Yamata-no-Orochi' Mari saw its health, and quickly made a note of it on the map she was drawing up. She wondered if the others had seen this much. If anything at all. Even with her night vision the room seemed dim. The boss was an immense eight headed red dragon with a small forest growing on its back. It held a Tachi sword in the grasp of its front right claw, and has a large Katana embedded in its tail. There seemed to be some sort of gas trailng from its many mouths, and it was a crimson red in colour. The Orochi stood firmly on its two rear claws, with its tail swinging gently from side to side.

Mari noted that there were two large kegs, one on each side, that emanate a similar red gas as the boss itself. She gave a questioning look. What the hell were they for?

All in all the boss stood at the centre of the room, and the four dragon humanoid creatures stood at the same height as the large blue stones. There seemed to be two males and two females. It looked like the guardians were ahead of the boss, and that there was a considerable gap between them. Good, that meant that the groups could be split, and one group could focus on the smaller mobs, whilst the other worked on Orochi. There was a blast of red gas from Orochi, and Mari got pushed back and out of the room. The door slammed shut right before her.

Mari blinked, giving her head a small shake. "Well shit." Seeing the HP of the Orochi, and that of its guardians - She didn't think she could go it alone. Perhaps a group of three would be successful, at bare minimum. Still, she had the information she needed. Mari turned from the door. Using the map as a guide she quickly made her way out of the tower.

It was time to send a few messages.
