SP-F10: 'Hello Darkness my Old Friend'

Recommended Posts

Mari was almost disappointed, as the first skeleton went to attack her, but tripped over its own foot, crashing to the floor, the second tumbling straight after it. This was supposed to be floor 10, this was supposed to be the floor where things were getting harder, not easier. This wasn't supposed to be the floor of bumbling mobs, this wasn't some stupid sit-com.

Mari sighed, as an armoured skeleton tried to attack her, but its blade missed its mark, bouncing off her armour and into its own head - again, the thorns on her armour inflicting damage on the armoured skeleton as she pushed it aside angrily, shouting at the second. "ATTACK ME!" She screeched at it, and it did. Well, it tried. It missed, and again, the damned Bone Dragon did nothing. Mari turned to it, "Are you just going to SIT THERE?" She asked it, "F**KING FIGHT ME!"

Mari was flustered, she as more flustered taht she didn't get hit..why? Why weren't they putting up much of a fight any more? Mari grimaced, perhaps it'd be more exciting to fight 24 of the damned monsters rather than 12. Maybe then she'd have a challenge. This was begining to bore her, she could feel herself settling into the battle, her heart rate slowing. But Mari, she wanted more. She wanted to feel scared, she wanted to fear for her life in the midst of a battle between her, and the digital denizens of this world.

This?

This was nothing!

"You're NOTHING!" She cried out again, striking the nearest Skeleton, she had almost missed it, but had just managed to catch it in the back of its shoulder, making its health sink to just below the half way point. There weren't many monsters left now, and that dragon. that Damned lazy dragon who wasn't doing anything, what the hell was its problem?

It seemed that Mari's frustrated outburst put some spirit into the not so spirited creatures. The first Skeleton had lifted itself up off the ground and tried to attack, but Mari shoved it aside, and again - it was damaged by thorns. Mari scoffed. Finally, FINALLY! A hit landed on her, square in her chest, knocking Mari back, and adding a Critical hit to boot! -2HP

Mari fell on top of the two armoured skeletons, rendering them more or less useless but their constant movement underneath her caused her to struggle to get up, The Bone Dragon began to move, lifting a clawed, bony leg to swipe across Mari, sending her, and the other skeletons flying backward, Mari coughed as she felt the wind knock out of her. -2 HP

Mari got up, laughing as she attempting to regain her balance, "ahahaAHAha!  YES!"  She screamed at the undead monsters before her, she pointed her dagger toward the Bone Dragon, "THAT! is-" She paused, coughing up blood, wiping it away quickly she continued. "THAT is what I am TALKING about You big, beautiful bony beast!" She cried out.

Mari, would have struck one of the skeletons, since both were well into the red, and any strike by her would have knocked them down and out. however, she had been knocked back by the Bone Dragon - and the only two mobs within range were the armoured skeletons, so she turned and drove her dagger into the chest cavity of one of them, driving it up toward it's skull.

The skeletons charged at Mari, the first digging its blade into her shoulder -1HP, Mari held in a scream as she grabbed its blade with her bare hand, not caring if it cut into her flesh. She looked dead into its empty eye sockets before pulling the blade out and pushing it back, thorned gauntlets colliding with its skull. The second didn't do much of anything, it tried to strike at her but missed. Mari didn't even have to dart out of the way, it simply missed.

An armoured Skeleton struck her from behind, its blade landing between Mari's shoulders, -2HP she gave a startled cry and fell to her knees- her hands stopping her fall. The second Skeleton tried to strike but she used one hand to push it back, again dealing thorn damage. The Bone dragon seemingly took a deep breath and green flames erupted from his mouth, but they missed Mari, as she managed to duck underneath them. She gave an unnerving laugh as she pushed herself up to her feet.

"Yesss..that's it, keep it coming..."

Mari struggled to put one foot forward, then the other. It was clear the battle was beginning to take its toll on her, and it had only just reached the midway point. Yet Mari kept on fighting. Dull blue eyes focused on the battle at hand, filled with a crazed sort of battle-lust. She hadn't felt this energized, this invigorated for the longest of times. When had she ever felt like that? Mari couldn't remember. She pulled her dagger fair across a skeleton's midsection, and kicked it away as it shattered into pieces. "Two down...." Mari muttered, as her eyes turned to the final skeleton. "One to go."

It seemed that she wouldn't need to waste her time on the skeleton, she'd leave it to its own devices, sooner or later it'd impale itself on her armour and die. Mari now needed to focus on getting rid of the skeletons adorned in armour, before finally moving onto the big baddie, the Bone Dragon.

Lo and behold, Mari was right, the last of the skeletons attempted to attack her but she pushed it back, the final thorns inflicting the last amount of damage it needed to do. The Skeleton burst into a flurry of pixelated data, Mari turned to the Armoured Skeleton next, it managed to land a hit on her -1HP but it was a futile effort, she smirked, jamming her gauntlet into its skull. Knocking it to the floor, it too suffered thorn damage.

Mari wanted to get close to the Bone dragon, so she started to dart toward it, again it tried to engulf her in eerie green flames but she tumbled forward, ducking out of the way.

That's it, three left. Three. Out of 12. Mari was sure she'd have struggled, perhaps - she should have more faith in herself. For she clearly, was stronger than she gave herself credit for. Mari gave a small grin, "eeny, meeny, miinnyy..." She said, eyes darting between the two skeletons. This was a great distraction for her. In the midst of this heated battle. She didn't have to think about anything. She didn't have to think about Life's Betrayal, the death of her daughter - the death of Alkor, or the countless times someone had fallen by her own blade.

No.

Here, it was just her, the beasts and the surrounding, endless darkness. Mari chose to go for the mob that had the least amount of HP, she went for the Armoured Skeleton, blade slashing across its mid-section. Mari watched as it's health dipped well into the red zone. "You'll die just like your friend." Mari muttered, insinuating that the Armoured Skeleton would meet the same fate, being destroyed by the thorns on her armour.

The weakened Armoured Skeleton attacked, its blade missing the mark, Mari managed to duck underneath the mob and block him using her spiked gauntlets. Just as she had suspected, it sustained a small amount of damage. The damage was small, but it was adding up. A few more hits like that, and it'd die of its own accord, giving Mari the chance to focus on the others. The dangerous yet slow bone dragon - and the other Armoured Skeleton.

The mobs were the size of a small army, and had quickly dwindled to naught but the three. The second Armoured Skeleton dealt Mari a powerful blow -2HP and she was knocked back down to the floor, face first into the dirt. Mari swore, groaning as she felt her head spinning, as she slowly lifted herself up off the ground, expecting the dragon to attack, but it didn't.

Mari pushed herself to her knees, her muscles ached, and she was oh so tired, but she wanted to - no HAD to keep going. She still had three enemies. A part of her just wanted to do away with the weaker of the armoured skeletons. But no. She had a plan, and she needed to stick to it. Her health was still steady, still above the halfway point. Mari grit her teeth as she bought herself up to her feet again, Despite it all. She was enjoying herself. "Aha!" She cried out, digging the dagger into the back of one of the Armoured skeletons. Bringing its HP down, along with the effect of Life Steal. "Not long now sweethearts."

The skeletons were relentless in their attacks, the first one lifting a sword right up and over its head, striking Mari in her side -2HP - the second attempted the same but She managed to heave it off with her armoured arms. The two skeletons had tried to put the entirety of their weight onto her but she pushed them off, giving a victorious laugh. They'd both die soon. They kept on hitting her, and you could barely call it a hard hit. The only reason her health had dipped so low, was because of their sheer numbers.

The Bone Dragon shifted, turning its large, spiked head toward her - but it didn't attack. Simply watched her with beady, green eyes.

Almost there, The first Armoured Skeleton was digging its own - more than likely second grave. The second? The second was as good as dead. Mari kicked up at the dirt on the ground, shifting her heeled boots so they sat deep in the earth. She bent her knees and bought her hand back, ready to strike. The second Skeleton charged at her - but Mari knocked it back with the hilt of her dagger before slicing diagonally down across it's face. The Armoured Skeleton shattered before her.

10 down, 2 to go.

The last skeleton clattered, and attempted to strike at Mari, but Mari had her heels driven deep into the earth, she wasn't going to be shaken quite so easily. She drove it back, and as it hit the thorns on her armour it shattered. Mari gave a triumphant smirk. It was just her, and the big, bad Bone Dragon. The bone dragon gave a roar, as it stepped forward - each step it took seemed to shake the surrounding area, and Mari could faintly hear the moan of more zombies approaching. Great... just great. The Dragon tried to strike her with its front leg but again, Mari pushed it back. Dealing Thorns damage.

"Try harder than that!" She taunted.

"My Turn~" Mari cooed as she carefully stepped out of the ground, giving each leg a small shake. She stretched. It had been a long battle, but it was almost over now. The immediate area grew quiet, and the only sound that could be head was the distant moans of the approaching undead, that is, if it isn't just ambient sounds. Mari darted forward, the dragon was made entirely of bone, making climbing it incredibly easy. She grabbed hold of a Leg bone and swung herself up, driving her dagger down a large rib bone. The Dragon tried to strike back, by flicking its tail up at her but Mari blocked its strike with a gauntlet, and continued to climb up the Bone Dragon.

Mari was now half way up its back, She wanted to get to its head, and rip it to pieces. Mari dug her dagger hard into it's spine. The Bone Dragon gave a roar, followed by a low hiss as green smoke poured from the black holes where its nostrils should be. Mari was pleased with herself, as it attempted to thrash her off, She was too high up for its claws to hit, and its tail was unable to flick her off from where she sat. "Tough sh*t, sweetheart." Mari said, driving the dagger deeper into the bone of its spine. In just a few short hits, she had already managed to bring down a third of its health. Soon, it'd fall, and she'd be able to move onto her goal of exploring the floor further.

Mari managed to deal another blow to the Bone Dragon, pulling the dagger out with a great deal of effort, before driving it in again. Another few and it'd be below the half way point. Mari pulled the dagger out, and slowly began to scale its spine, getting close and closer to the head. The Bone Dragon seemed like it finally had enough. It gave a violent shake, dishevelling her from its back. Mari fell to the ground with a 'thud' She groaned, and tried to move but before she could the Dragon stomped down on her. "Oomph!" Mari coughed up more blood, and struggled to push the dragon off her. It growled, and blasted her in the face with a green noxious smelling gas. Mari immediately felt like she was going to throw up, as it finally stepped off her.

Mari struggled to stand, and when she did manage to stand her hands whipped up to her mouth as she thought she was going to throw up. However she had to remind herself it was just a feeling, that something like vomiting, couldn't possibly be programmed into the game. Could it? Mari's vision grew spotty, and she struggled to keep her balance, but she wouldn't quit. The pink haired woman stumbled forward, collapsing when she reached the Bone Dragon's foot, but not before ramming her dagger into its largest toe. It was a weak attack, but it still dealt damage. Mari was now at the halfway point. Soon...soon it'd die.

The Bone Dragon lifted up its foot, and kicked Mari, she helplessly rolled back a few metres. The feeling making her more and more dizzy. "Ugh..."

Mari forced herself to her feet. This was the first time she had ever succumbed to the effects of poison, and she did not like it at all. So the Bone Dragon had a few tricks up it's sleeve. Despite feeling like she wanted to throw up, and her spotty vision, the feeling that the entire world was saying from side to side, Mari was grateful that the battle was heating up, proving to be more difficult. She stumbled forward in a weak charge, striking the Bone Dragon's upper front leg. The Dragon tried to stomp down on her again, but Mari stumbled back. It was a lucky fluke.

The nauseous feeling began to dissipate, till it had almost completely disappeared. Her vision cleared, and the world stopped swaying, the effects of the poison had ceased. Mari shook her head, ensuring that that it was well and truly gone. It was. Mari didn't waste any time, she immediately began climbing the beast again, hooking her legs into the various nooks and crevices that the bone structure of the dragon had. Mari had reached its spine before driving her Dagger hard into it. The Dragon screeched and tried to shake her off, but she held on fast. Refusing to make the same mistake twice.

The next few minutes was a battle of dominance. Mari refused to let go of the blade, and she refused to take the chance at getting in a second strike, not with the violent bucking and shaking of the Bone Dragon, attempting to throw her off its back. There were precious few seconds where it'd stop and it gave Mari the chance to ensure her position was not compromised. She pushed the dagger in deeper in the gaps between the spinal bones - till the blade had completely disappeared. Mari refused to let it get the best of her, and she wanted to stay clear from its mouth.
