Diving forward, Reu used a front-roll to attempt a horizontal slash attack at the Wind Wasp, but he aimed too low, the wind wasp easily hovered a few feet higher into the air and avoided Reu's strike. As it went up, it quickly changed direction and launched a pin-point strike at Reu's vital organs. Luckily, Reu felt the creatures barb glance off his light armor vest, and quietly breathed a sigh of relief at its excellent construction.

Growing tired of this battle, Reu lept forward in a mighty overhead strike, his determination growing with his intensity. He lifted his blade high, and felt the full weight of his blade as it ripped into the enemy, sending spurts of green wasp blood everywhere. The attack had sent the Wind Wasp reeling, and when it came back to launch a counter-strike, Reu was more then able to deftly avoid its' attempt at a counter-attack.

Continuing in a frenzy, Reu launched a series of strikes that did a moderate amount of damage against the Wasp. Feeling quite happy at his handiwork, Reu stepped back and away, waiting on the next attack from the Wasp. As the attack came, Reu quickly side-stepped and got himself safely away from the incoming strike.

Because he had such great success the last time, Reu again used the same flurry attack pattern against the wasp. Once again, Reu found his blade squirting green goo from the creatures innards. This time, the Wasp was losing coherency, and launched an attack which was even easier for Reu to avoid. Reu had the skill of a hundred battles by now, he used this experience to guide his movements away from the monsters attack pattern.

Reu lept forward, bringing his blade to bare against his foe. The Wind Wasp buzzed loudily as it was struck heavily by Reu. Feeling the restorative abilities of Battle Healing, Reu also felt the pain of the Wind Wasps returned counter-attack. Worse, the wind wasp scored a critical hit!

The next round of combat was boring, neither foe gained an advantage on the other. Still, Reu felt he had to try. He ran forward with his blade, but tripped in the mud. Rolling forward, Reu still managed to avoid the poorly placed attack by the enemy wind wasp.

After rising out of his front-roll, Reu took a wide stance establishing a firm base. From this base, he was able to launch a directed strike against the enemy Wind Wasp, and in doing so, felt his blade flick down the side of the creatures side. The Wind Wasp counter-attacked with a quick strike, but Reu was ready and quickly performed a few twists and turns and managed to evade the creatures strike.

Stepping back, Reu allowed his Battle Healing skill to activate. Feeling its warmth roll over him, Reu re-steeled his resolve, stepping forward, and targeting the Wind Wasp in front of him. "Targetting...and FIRING!" he yelled, and in the process launched into a leaping forward strike. Hitting his opponent, he deftly worked his way around the Wind Wasps razor-sharp pincers in its attempt to grab a hold of Reu.

As he worked his way around the beasts' pincers, Reu immediately launched into a spinning backwards sword-strike; to his delight, he felt the vibration of a 'critical strike'! Reu didn't turn to look as the Wind Wasp erupted into de-frag remnants, he didn't look at the menu which listed a single material gained, instead Reu stood there, with his eyes closed. He quietly let his battle healing ability do its work, while he felt the presence of nature, virtual nature, all around him.

Heading back to the stream, Reu followed it deeper into the forest. Along the way, Reu was turning up stones, looking at the sides of trees, and examining the local foliage, though Reu was unable to find any source of Materials. Disappointed, Reu continued walking his way through the forest, it's brooding sounds luring him deeper and deeper.

Funny, I don't remember saying I was done at any point.

Reu could feel the air begin to chill around him. He had walked into the shadow of the mountain crevice cut-out now. The sun wasn't visible here, and looking up you'd only see the cliff-face opening into blue sky; but it was a dark, unlit blue sky. Braving his way forward however, Reu slowly stepped over the crackling tree branches, the smell of moisture hanging heavy in the air.

 

There is something else there too, Reu silently thought to himself. Something among the ambient background noise of the forest, and something which was...growing louder. Suddenly, Reu dove backwards; though he didn't quite dodge the surprise attack, his armor had reflected the glancing blow, allowing Reu to escape unscathed. Suddenly, Reu stood up and and there, in front of him, was the Grand Matriarch, the Queen Bee, the Wind Wasp Queen!

 

Featuring a huge thorax, a pincer as long as Reu's arm, and a large head full of beady eyes, the Wasp Qeen was a disgusting sight to behold. And yet...Reu smiled. This was what he had come here for; a chance to find a field boss, and now that the battle was here, Reu felt all the time was well worth it. It had taken several days to get to this point, and he could have been on the front-lines, so this opportunity, to Reu, felt like a blessing.

 

Without hesitation, he launched an attack. Raising his sword Reu charged forward screaming!

Having gained his determination from a heavy strike so early into the battle, Reu continued his success with a second, pinpoint strike against the Wasp Queen. He felt his one-handed long sword rip into the beasts thick thorax. It was much thicker then it appeared to be, it took a mighty swing in order for Reu to pierce it, but finally, after much grinding his blade in, he saw blood spurt from the wound. Unlike the Wind Wasps which held green blood, this was a deep, sapphire blue. It's color surprised Reu, but it didn't break his focus. As the Queen Wasp prepared to strike, Reu ducked, dodged, dipped, dived, and dodged the incoming strike.

As he lifted himself back to his feet, Reu suddenly slipped backwards, and hit his head, HARD. He was so dizzy when he stood backup, that Reu ran off to attack the Wasp Queen, but was wondering why he now saw three Wasp Queens. Sadly, Reu's vision was so loopy that he certainly wasn't attack the 'correct' Wasp Queen. As soon as his blade swung through the shiny, slowly rotating Wasp Queen in front of him, Reu knew he had made a terrible mistake. Suddenly, the buzzing increased and the Wasp Queen was attacking him. It drug Reu to the ground, and struck with a thick, black barb. Reu rolled to his left, and rolled back to his right, but wasn't able to get away because of the creature's sharp, pointy legs. Finally, the creature found what it was looking for, an attack against Reu. Still, Reu's armor saved him; deflecting the strike at an awkward angle. The creature's barb stuck into the ground, and Reu managed to find a way back to his feet as he scampered away from the creature.

Reu regained his footing, and as the Wasp Queen attempted to follow him, Reu swung his blade down and low. When he felt it make contact, he immediately ripped it up, in a vertical motion, finally, reaching the top arc of his attack, Reu brought the blade back down. His attack was extremely successful, not just damaging the monster, but sending it reeling in the process. The distance this created also allowed Reu the opportunity to perform a very fancy flip when the Queen Wasp made its attempt to counter-attack. Reu was glad he had attended extra training before taking this mission, otherwise this creature would have been much tougher. So far, so good, Reu thought to himself, smiling.

Feeling determined, Reu again launched a successful series of strikes against the foe in front of him; once again, feeling his sword rip through the thick thorax of the Queen Bee. As she went to counter-attack, Reu used a quick rolling flip to maintain distance and keep himself out of harms way. Smiling, Reu realized that at this rate, the battle would soon be over and he would be back on the front-lines, where he belonged.

Rushing in, Reu screamed with all his might. Screaming after all, made his attacks 33% more effective. His self-fulfilling prophecy received verification too as he once again hit the beast. This time, the Queen Bee's attacks were sloppy, and Reu easily dodged the predictable counter-attack. Feeling quite elated with himself, Reu allowed himself a smile on the battle-field. As dangerous as this game was at times, other times, you felt drastically over-powered.

Reu circled right, and then jumped forward into a zelda-esque lunge attack. As his blade meshes with the creatures vital organs, Reu pulled hard; his blade's serrated edge ripped into the creature, like a carving knife. It didn't do as much damage as he hoped it would, but it was enough. Suddenly, the wasp launched a lighting quick attack at Reu, who didn't have time to dodge or even defend. As it smashed into him with a thick pincer strike, Reu felt the strike deep in his gut. Looking down, he saw that he was bleeding slightly from the abdominal wound. Laughing, Reu simply got himself ready for the next round of attacks.
