SP-F2 <<Long Live the Queen>>

Recommended Posts

As his laughter subsided, Reu stepped forward, and suddenly did a full-spinning attack, bringing his blade to bare into the right-side of the creature. Spinning through, like a hurricane, Reu felt the effect of a critical hit reverberate down his arm. The smooth vibration was comforting, not jarring, as it reminded Reu of just how powerful he was. As the Queen Wasp counter-attacked, Reu ducked and watched as the Wasp flew straight into a tree, it's large, black barb now stuck deep inside. 'One third of the way there!', Reu thought gleefully!

After a few moments, Reu charged towards the stuck Matriarch, as he came up behind it, prepared to strike, the creature suddenly pulled itself free from the tree. Reu was still in the process of swinging his sword however, and it bounced off the tree with a tang. The words 'Immortal Object' appeared on the tree, along with the systems protect mode. I know!, Reu hissed. He hadn't meant to do that. On the bright side, the Queen Wasp wasn't able to launch a counter-strike on Reu, due to his deft footwork which placed the tree between the Queen Wasp and himself.

Feeling testy, Reu launched into an attack suddenly. He lowered his blade, and lunged into the Wasp Queen. It wasn't the best way to attack with his sword type, but it was still somewhat effective. The speed of the attack made up for not using the weapon properly. It also jolted the Queen Wasps senses as its next counter-attack, was widely off the mark. Reu had to do little more then sit and watch the Queen Wasp go flying by.

As his Battle Healing ability kicked in, Reu moved himself around the battlefield. Running up a large rock, he used the new positioning to leap off the other side, and swing his sword into the back-side of the Queen Wasp. It BUZZED in pain. Violently, it began flying in circles, though it was predictable, and easy for Reu to dodge. 5/6ths of the way there, Reu thought to himself!

Diving forward, Reu launched himself like a missile, and even spun himself right-round, baby right-round. The attack was rediculous, yet highly successfully. Buzzing angrily, the Queen Wasp launched another rushed attack, and once again, Reu used a quick side-step to get out of the way of the attack. For a second time, the Queen Bee found itself stuck inside a tree. Reu giggled, wondering what had prompted the programmer to add this in. Still, it was a benefit for Reu; who had already begun mapping out his next attack.

Seeing a good opportunity, Reu came in behind the Wind Wasp, this time predicting its exact movements as it became 'unstuck' from the tree. With a swinging roundhouse of a strike, Reu felt the blade rip into his opponent; putting it on its last legs. The Queen Wasp attempted a counter-strike, but being just inches from death, it wasn't much of one; Reu once again easily flipped out of the way of the incoming attack.

In his earnest to end this battle, Reu rushed in recklessly and tripped over a tree-root sticking out of the ground. Welp, he thought to himself, that's the end of MY attack. Flipping himself back up to his feet, he carefully dodged the incoming strike from the Queen Wasp. Even with almost all of his HP, he wasn't about to let this creature get an attack in on him QUITE yet. He didn't want to take the chance of the boss having some sort of near-death attack power bonus.

Finally, after a long and arduous battle, Reu sunk his blade deep into the Queen Wasp for a final time. He sighed to himself, as the drop notification appeared. "1 Material, 3 Skill Points, a rare potion probably mandatory to be given by this boss, and only 150 col." He sighed again. Reu had been hoping for more col then that, but things were what they were. None-the-less, the skill points would be helpful, and the potion, "The Matriarch's Stinger" would be useful. Its' item description went into how it gives a small damage-boost for one battle. "Well, maybe I can sell it for a good price at my fish stand." He lamented to himself. Reu sure did talk to himself a lot. Speaking of talking to himself, it occured to Reu just how far out he was in the woods like this. The fact the area had been hard to get too, also raised his suspicions. Hmmm, Reu took a long, long, look around. He thought, 'there must be a treasure chest in this dark, reclusive area'.

To Reu's great surprise, there was a treasure chest tucked away, just slightly in the forest. He cautiously made his way towards the chest.

Slowly making his way towards the chest, Reu took a long, and slow look around. The chest was brown, with metal frames, and it looked fairly typical for a treasure chest in SAO. Slowly, Reu started to open it. Suddenly, he felt a small 'catch'. It would have been missed by most players, but Reu was an experienced enough treasure hunter to feel the catch of the chest. Stopping before setting it off, Reu then squatted down and examined the trap. Once he had it fully visualized, a prompt appeared to 'Disable'. Reu reached out and hit Disable, and heard a whirring followed by a click. Satisfied that the chest was no longer booby-trapped; Reu went ahead and opened up the chest. Lights shown from within as he did so, because after all, he was still in a virtual game world.

Inside the chest were 2 crafting materials, and another 100 col. Not a bad find when added to my other earnings, Reu thought to himself. Feeling elated, he added his earnings back in, and made his way back to the town. It was going to be a long trek, and he wanted to get started as soon as possible. After all, he would still have to report in to the Information Broker, and it was going to be dark soon. SAO was not a game which encouraged roaming the fields at night alone.

Arriving back in town, Reu met with the information broker, explaining all about his journey farming Wind Wasps, as well as providing detailed information about the 'Wasp Queen', and her drop, The Matriarchs Stinger Potion. He even threw in the bit about the treasure chest in the back of the forest, but that's because even though Argo had only been interested in the quest details; Reu wasn't the type to leave such a high-level trap on a treasure chest around for some weaker player to be blown away, his life snuffed out in some game-designers cruel joke. All in all, Reu thought to himself as he tucked in at the local inn, was that it had been a very fun quest.
