Takao said as the quadrupedal monster charged. Heavy legs pounded the sand as it approached him, though Takao seemed unfazed by the charging beast. His mind was wandering and musing about how odd it felt to kill a monster in the defense of another monster, but he shook the thoughts from his head as quickly as they formed, and refocused his attention onto the monster. Takao raised his sword and turned the flat of the blade to face the monster. He caught the beast's charge with the metal and slowed it to a stop, his boots digging into the sand as the monster pushed him back. Takao shifted his weight to one side of the blade and used the monster's force again it, who stumbled to the side at the sudden lack of stability from Takao's sword. His blade carved through the side a second time, knocking off another lump of health. The beast clearly didn't like Takao's successful attempts at striking it, as one could imagine the beast wouldn't, but Takao proved to be a rather difficult target for the heavy, slow monster to hit. Takao 0 Posted August 5, 2015 Author #23 Report Share Posted August 5, 2015 (edited) Takao and the Rhinosaurus clashed again, his blade blocking the quadruped's horn by the head and the Rhinosaurus preventing Takao from gaining any headway or moving it with its rage fueled strength. He grunted and his boots sand into the sand as he struggled to keep the monster from pushing him back, until Takao finally managed to push it off and to the side. He forfeited the chance to strike with the motion, but he much preferred to not be in that position, if he could help it. His sword sailed past the Rhinosaurus and sank into the ground, though it was easy to draw back out due to the ground being made of loose sand. Takao's skill with footwork allowed him to evade the Rhinosaurus after pulling his blade out of the ground. The Dune Rat had about a minute on him now, and he was worried it might have despawned. His gaze settled on the Rhinosaurus as the two entered another stalemate, neither able to gain the upper hand. Takao strained his legs to keep him standing upright against the force of the quadruped. The monster had made the mistake of stopping its charge early, which presented Takao with a clear opportunity to attack. He soon learned why the monster had stopped so soon as its spiked tail swung around for his face. He narrowly evaded the extremity by ducking and tumbling underneath, putting only a meter or two in distance between himself and the monster. "Come on, man! Its health dropped and dropped until there was nothing left, and before the monster could even burst into the shards of shimmering data he enjoyed seeing so much, Takao had already sheathed his sword into the scabbard on his back and started to stumble up the sand dune he'd seen his "soon to be" familiar scurry up. They lead away from the sand dunes and toward large rocky outcrops in the distance, which is where he was sure he would find the Dune Rat lurking around. Takao broke into a light sprint and hurried off in the direction of the large rocks, quietly thankful for the survival skill which he was positive was the only thing keeping him upright and, dare he say, alive in the extreme desert heat. "We can work this out, can't we?" He received the response that he'd been expecting. Absolutely nothing. He huffed out his growing frustration with the small imp monster and continued to look around, certain that the monster was in the area. He approached it with food in hand, which Takao assumed triggered something in the system thanks to the quest. The monster gingerly approached him, eyes filled with caution as it reached out and sniffed the food. To Takao's surprise, the monster actually accepted the food item and began to happily eat it. His eyes began to glimmer with wonder, awe, and excitement."Yes! Finally! I've done it!" Both of his hands thrust up into the air and his eyes closed as a broad smile grew on his face. As he opened them a moment later, he expected to see the monster. "Dude, we're gonna be such a good tea-..." His voice was cut off upon seeing the massive monster, twice as large as the quadrupedal beast he'd fought not long after, happily and wordlessly chowing down on his familiar. His eyes were wide and mouth agape in horrified shock as he watched the small devil critter burst into shards of data. He could only be so devastated, however, as it was just a monster. He was well aware of that, but he just couldn't push the upset feeling back. He grit his teeth and stood up suddenly, his blade pulled free of the scabbard on his back, and the swing that followed missed. It did capture the aggression of the monster however, who missed similarly when it attempted to return the favour. "Dude! Disappointment would've worked, perhaps even a bit of frustration because it just meant he'd have to spent even more time on the floor that he positively loathed. At the very least, he had something to take his sudden uncharacteristic aggression out on, despite the fact that his second attempt at striking the monster had failed. He swung for the Rock Eater and grit his teeth as he watched the blade just barely miss, he swore he could feel the very tip catch onto the stony monster's thick skin, but a fleeting glance at the unmoved green health gauge and lack of definitive glowing red wounds suggested otherwise. He followed through with his slash and landed hard on his right foot, then pushed off with his left and tumbled out of the monster's third attempt to body slam him. He swiped horizontally toward the large monster's broad side, but it moved out of the way just barely in the nick of time. He swing wider and followed through again, mimicking his motions from just a moment earlier. The monster used its size to its advantage when it attempted to strike him in return, and quickly tipped itself over in an attempt to crush him. Perhaps it was his frustration that made him unable to concentrate, which brought a thought to his mind. Concentration. A skill put in the game to do exactly what the name implied, help him concentrate. He closed his eyes and activated the skill, and in the following moments opened his eyes to refocus on the monster. With furrowed eyebrows and new-found determination, Takao closed the gap between himself and the Rock Eater. His green eyes focused on the rock monster that growled and grumbled at him, red eyes glaring menacingly back at his, ready to strike at any moment. The beast was slow and easy to both predict and dodge, though for some reason, Takao had the hardest time hitting it. He swung again and missed again, just like the beast before him did. He stepped forward and pulled the handle with his right hand, bringing the blade up and over his head. He alternated between his hands in the following instant, his right hand pushing the weak of the blade forward while his left hand pulled the pommel in the direction of his body for leverage. Takao's evasiveness proved to prolong the battle in his favour, and presented him with opportunities to strike the monster. He swung for the monster, but stepped too earlier, telegraphing his move to the monster that picked up on the subtle mistake and evaded accordingly.
