[SP-F1]Wasting Time And Forcing Progression [COMPLETE]

Recommended Posts

Kalesh had returned down to the first floor where all characters began their journey into Aincrad. Unlike most returning players though he didn't come here to help others or even socialize in a safe place. No, he came for foolish reasons he wasn't even entirely sure about doing. He had never once had his starter blade repaired and so it was falling into disrepair as he fought. He was outgrowing it anyways and would need a replacement, it could only carry him so far with its low damage. With all of these factors taken into consideration, he opted instead of repairing the blade, to let it have one last fight, where it would perhaps provide some of the materials for the one that would come after it. He knew it would probably be easier to try and sell it off to a smith and then just make a weapon or buy one, but it just felt wrong to have his first weapon rot in a shop or get melted down. With that in mind he stepped through the streets with his blade on his shoulder for the last time, before heading out of the town gates and into the low-level fields. He didn't bother putting on armor, the damage prevention they provided would be negated by the sheer weakness of the boars anyways.

Durability: 20

((This RP takes place after completing Breaking The Unbreakable chronologically, and the blade will lose durability equal to the damage it does. A normal attack 2, a critical 3-4, and a critical failure 1. Not trying to introduce a system, this is just for RP purposes and assumes the blade had -far- more durability to start with. Also the boars have 2 hp. This is basically a glorified gathering quest made tougher by the fact I can miss.))

Having passed the threshold out of the safe zones, he began searching around for the first boar he'd be taking care of that day. He needed a considerable amount of materials as his allies had taken the vast majority of obtained materials for themselves or gathered as he worked. He didn't blame them, they were strangers and it's survival of the fittest. He just had to work behind the scenes to keep up. Naturally it didn't take too long for him to locate the first boar, the first floor being all but infested with them, and so he shifted the weight of his blade off of his shoulders and clasped the hilt tightly in his hands as he closed the distance. With one sharp swing the blade carved through the boar and caused it to shatter apart. The beasts were pretty harmless now, seeing how they were passive until provoked. Unfortunately he gained absolutely no materials from the kill and so he had to start looking for the next.

With the first boar dead, he began searching around for the second. While he did he curiously checked the durability of his sword to confirm how much it had gone down. It was enough to make him rather aware he couldn't keep this up for too long a time and still expect to leave with the blade, though that was the plan to begin with so he was rather at peace with the notion. Having never let the blade leave his grasp he located the next boar on his kill list and stepped over leisurely while lifting the blade high. When he swung downward the blade swung harmlessly past the passive boar, but it seemed that the vibration of the blade crashing into the dirt beside it had aggroed it. It turned oh-so ferociously and headbutt Kalesh, who didn't even flinch.

Naturally Kalesh had little reason to feel threatened, after all, the boars were the weakest in the game and he had grown out of being the weakest kind of player in the game, at least stat-wise. As far as equipment went he never left that area. With the boar acting like it was the most dangerous creature in the world, Kalesh lifted his blade for another swing. This time his aim was far better, cleaving the boar down the center, a grin passing his lips at how symmetrical it was before the boar broke apart and rewarded him with nothing for his efforts. He merely shrugged his shoulders in understanding and moved on, no point dwelling on it.

Having felled his second boar, he began the search for the third. He wasn't sure why he was keeping track, the sword was going to tell him when he was done. He was still holding it, and so he was going to keep hunting. When a new boar crossed his line of sight began approaching the creature while humming a tune to himself softly. Hunting things far weaker than you with little in way of reward was of course going to be fairly dull, but he tried to make the most of it. Someone else beat him to the boar though, some other players had come his way and so he merely grinned when they got to the boar first. He turned on his heel to look for other boars, figuring to them that he looked just as strong as they were, so he had no desire to call them out on stealing his kill or something selfish like that. They could have that one to themselves, sure he could use the time they were distracted to find another.

It was always a nice thing to see other players stepping out of the town. Perhaps with enough time the overall air of despair the town of beginnings held onto would dissipate. Maybe one day the town would be abandoned entirely. That would be marvelous to him, though for others it could be taken negatively seeing how young some of the players were. He momentarily wondered if they were stuck in here long enough, would the children awaken to a post-pubescent body? That would be a shock and a blessing he chuckled to himself as he spotted the next boar on the death's row. Within a moments notice he had finished the beast off with his blade and smiled at the pleasant surprise that the boar had been generous enough to give him a material for his troubles!

Having obtained the first piece of his blade's future replacement, he began his search for the second material that would go towards making him just a teensy bit tougher. His goal was a perfect quality blade of course, why bother with anything lesser unless it is simply dropped onto your head for free? Sure, anything is an improvement over nothing, but why only go part way when going all the way would be so much better at the end of the day? While mentally locked in debate with himself he almost fails to notice he was about to stumble into a boar. Unfortunately for the boar, time on the higher floors had given him some level of reactionary thinking. With one powerful swing he crashed the blade through the boar and into the dirt as if it were butter! He shuddered as he practically felt the durability of his blade drop from that move. As repayment though, the boar granted him a material which evened things out for him mentally.

He found it rather amusing he had gotten this lucky twice in a row. This was the second time he had obtained this many materials from any single ventures, and if he got one more it would be the day that had given him the most to date. Having a little bit of a morale boost from this knowledge he eagerly glances around for his next boar, momentarily considering that he should think about getting some search skills before shaking it from his mind when he did finally track down a boar. This one was much like the others, slain in a single strike, and much like the first few they were selfish and held onto their precious items and left him with nothing but a sigh.

Although he did sigh in disappointment, he didn't dwell one it for more than a passing moment before he was on the hunt again. He glanced to his sword curiously and noted that it looked just as shiny as the day he had taken it from his inventory. He shrugged in slight disappointment that weapons didn't visibly wear down like they did in some other MMO, but he figured it wasn't big enough of a deal for him to really care that deeply. Instead he chose to keep up the hunt, and track down the next boar, a simple task and just as quickly as he had found the boar, he cleaved the boar in half and was presented with a third material! With a new record reached he found himself feeling rather achieved!

Ever the lazy player Kalesh stretched out and figured he'd find a nice spot to relax for a bit. All work and no play, as they say. After about five minutes of walking through the grasslands he did find a lone tree that looked to have some wonderful shade. As he approached the tree he looked around at the bark and into the leaves to see if there was anything he could snag from it before he took his nap. A slight glimmer from the sunlight turned his attention down to the roots of the tree and tucked under one of them was hidden hunk of ore which he happily bent down and tugged out of the crevive and stored it away for later use. With that done he set his blade down and laid back in the shade cast by the tree, smiling to himself as he shut his eyes and just enjoyed the sounds of the simulated nature.

Kalesh napped there for an hour easily, not a worry passing his mind even as he was aware that he was in the unsafe part of the world. Any PK could get the jump on him but that was a secondary thought to him. He wasn't going to worry about getting shanked every time he stepped out of his house in the real world, why would he worry about it here? He stretched out before going limp for a few moments, opening his eyes and glancing around as he grasped his blade's hilt and double checked its dwindling durability. Kalesh saw a light to his left, about thirty meters away a boar respawned it seemed. Deciding to see if he could take advantage of the providence that the world had granted him, he stood and stepped towards the boar lazily while trying to fully wake himself. Mid-swing however he found himself yawning, the blade missing the boar entirely and he rubbed his eyes tiredly before shaking his head.

Realizing he shouldn't be fighting while only mostly conscious he takes a moment to compose and focus himself before regripping his sword and lifting the blade for a vertical slash. He wasn't one who was going to learn that lesson too easily, but he would certainly try to keep it to a minimum to prevent his demise at the hands of the unsleeping NPCs. Did they sleep? He never really followed one long enough to see how much they mimic the actual players. He groaned and shook his head before he could further distract himself. The blade missed again, but his hand brushed over the boar's fur as the blade went over them, leaving him blinking in surprise as it aggroed the boar which turned and rammed his leg. "Tsk. That would have stung." He says to the borderline harmless beast.

He had developed a slight amount of animosity towards the boar that had decided to not go down quietly but instead attack him. He shrugged though while looking at it like one would a child that was doing something foolish. Naturally the boar didn't stand a chance, he could have just ignored the beast for several minutes and it wouldn't have been able to kill him. Ready not to flinch if it charged him again he lifted his blade up, but changed his usual grip for a downward stabbing motion instead. Real dramatic, just like in the movies where the bad guys would always miss at the last moment because they held it up too long. As if to prove the uselessness of such a motion the boar charged him and then backed off in time to avoid the stab, leaving him chuckling. "You have no sense of humor, hm?"

Kalesh figured it was time to stop playing with his prey and returned his blade to a regular grip, stepping back from the boar a bit while watching its movements. He took a deep breath and tried to empty his head of unnecessary thought, looking at the boar and then reclosing the gap just as the boar decided to try and ram him again! Kalesh speared his blade deep into the boar, using the beast's own momentum to help impale itself and leaving him laughing as the beasts tusks managed to stab into his wrist before the creature vanished into crystal. "Oof, good one little guy... kinda fruitless though." He didn't mean from the slight damage, but rather from levelling up from the meager EXP it had to offer. "Thanks for the power!" He laughed to himself while checking his new stats and idly walking forward.

He found himself looking at his sword, the level up only further proving he was starting to outgrow the simple blade, eyeing it up and down as if trying to memorize its overall design and a few mock-swings for the weight and balance. He let out a long sigh as he soon noticed yet another boar he planned to make into a harmless victim. "Well, either this kill or the next one I think, and then it's goodbye. Thanks for keeping me from dying for as long as you did." He took a breath and began the charge towards the boar to off the creature. At least, he wanted to, but he found himself hesitating, the logical and cold part of his mind knowing it'd be a more effective use of his time and money to use the blade as a material for a new weapon. He groaned softly as he was left conflicted with his blade raised by the boar.

Kalesh stood there for a minute as the mental debate began anew in his head, the same one he had been having all day until he came here. The blade wasn't yet broken, so he could always sell it off after a repair job was done. He shook his head and tried to stop thinking on it so hard. This was about putting his first blade to rest, not trying to keep it with him in some weird emotional way or about money. Emotional connection he didn't have in any way that made him feel the need to keep the blade, but it did feel too cheap to sell it so he raised his blade again with renewed purpose. The boar shattered apart just as expected when his blade cut through the creature, leaving him with nothing but further reduced durability on his sword and no new items to show for it.

He was aware that the next hit his blade took would be its last so he prepared himself mentally as he tracked down his weapons final boar with an odd sense of purpose. After several minutes of dragging his heels he finally did manage to find the boar. He looked around, just in case those players from earlier were still around, but seeing that they weren't he stepped forward towards the boar at a leisurely pace. When he did get to the boar he gave it a nudge with his foot to aggro it. He wanted his blade to shatter in combat at least, not during an 'ambush' as it was. The boar of course took offense to this and crashed into his leg, spearing his ankle with one of its tusks to which he grinned. "Man, that feeling never gets... normal." He shudders softly while nervously chuckling to himself.

With the boar still stuck in his leg he readied his blade, keeping his leg firmly where it was until the boar managed to wrench itself free and scampered off to get some distance before its next charge. Kalesh took a breath and started to walk closer towards the beast while waiting for it to charge, wondering if he could hit the boar before it hit him again. It wouldn't be a bad thing to get some more speed and precision into his strategy, even if his blade was meant for a lot of brute strength. Unfortunately he wasn't able to pull off his little trick, but he was able to cut the boar in half vertically which was quite the sight as it ran past his leg and collapsed, nicking him with a tusk as it passed. With that, his weapon was the next to go, shattering a moment after the boar. He watched as the crystals floated off and smiled as he thought on where to go from here. "Let's see... I could either pummel more boars, or I could try to gather materials the old fashioned way..." He starts to look around at the local environment as he decided.

Shrugging his shoulders he figured he'd just keep his eyes down as he walked back to the town. It wouldn't be a long walk, but if he got something extra out of it then hooray for him he supposed. Having no weapons he stretches and holds his hands behind his head, humming a tune as he made his way to through the grasslands that made up a fairly large portion of the first floor. He had no luck, however, and he reached the town's gates finding nothing except the materials he had gotten from the boars. That along with the ones he already had, he had a feeling he'd be able to get a bigger and better blade in no time.

While walking through the streets, weaponless and gearless, he thought about what to do from here onward. For one he'd need to find someone to make the blade. He had no expectations of getting any particularly strong armors, but the greatest defense was a good offense! Or was it the other way around? Either way he needed a sword. He moved to a nearby noticeboard and started to look at the names of different smiths in the area before shrugging and just taking notes on the different locations. He could decide where to go and which floor to visit later, what he needed right now was a drink and some food. Thankfully taverns have both of those things!
