[SP - F6] I'll Face Myself <<The Gemini>> COMPLETE

Recommended Posts

The 6th floor. It was amazing. Seul had finally made it after days after all his training. Amazon was a strange village; nestled within a dense jungle and all the NPCs happened to be female. "It's like I died and went to heaven!" The boy exclaimed as he passed through the gates. Girls as far as the eye could see, now if only any of the were actually real. It probably wouldn't have made a difference. Seul never did have much luck with women anyway, evident by the fact that he had never had a girlfriend before. He wasn't sure what he would have even done on a date anyway. Such things were out of his field of expertise. Actually, anything that wasn't game-related landed outside of his scope of knowledge in one way or another.

Who needed girls when they had video games to give their love to?! Games were perfect. You could play with them practically anywhere at any time. The same couldn't be said for women, unless you felt like going to jail or getting a few strange looks. Games also had off switches, something that many females and males should've been created with. But he digressed; now was the time to conduct a little first hand recon. Before going any further he raised the hood on his cloak and took the village streets in search of anything interesting.

The village wasn't too interesting. The one thing that did catch his attention though was the dueling circle with a crowd around. In the center was an NPC fighting against a player. The match went on for quite some time until the player eventually took down the NPC and left with a more full wallet. It was a fun looking event, but Seul wasn't really one for duels. At least not yet anyway. Even so, the NPC wasted no time getting back up to approach the boy. "You there! Why don't you have a go?!"

"Um..." The only word that managed to escape as Seul had been put on the spot by the NPC. There didn't seem to be any malicious intent in the man's voice and the last player to fight him walked away pretty much unscathed with a butt load of Col to boot. What could possibly go wrong with a simple match? It might even be a good test of his skill. "Alright, I'll take you on." He said while stepping into the ring. "Splendid, splendid!" The NPC cheered while rising to his feet. A small text window appeared before the boy for a quest called 'The Gemini' but it lacked any sort of description so he dismissed it quickly with the accept button. A few moments later the duel timer appeared with the two names of the participants: Seul and... Seul?!

The odds of an NPC having the same name as him were slim if not impossible. "What's going on?" The boy asked, allowing his voice to adopt a somewhat callous undertone to it. The NPC simply smiled and turned in place before facing back toward the young player. His face... Was Seul's face?! The name had also changed to Gemini. This must have been part of the quest that he accepted. A duel against this NPC for Col? No problem! Or at least it wouldn't have been if the darn guy didn't look exactly like the boy. From the type of weapon he used down to his physical features and armor, it was like staring in a mirror. "Now the true fun begins!" Even the voice was the same?! Props to whoever programmed this little quest as the details of it were spot on.

The timer hit zero and the match had begun! Like Seul, the Gemini had also charged and the two were definitely cut from the same cloth. Seul swung first with his dagger, but Gemini ducked and swung his own dagger horizontally toward the boy's chest. Seul had dodged the hit by jumping backwards but it was invigorating to be able to fight himself like this. "Not bad Gemini, though the fake version is always never as good as the original!" He teased. The Gemini of course had to retort with his own taunting. "Ever hear the phase 'I can't believe it's not butter'? I'm the butter substitute in this scenario!"

The Gemini was the first one to draw blood. A well aimed swing left a small gash on Seul's shoulder and took a small part of the boy's health with it. The boy's cloak of course kicked in and shot out its thorns from the fabric to cut into the Gemini's arm after the attack. "That's right! My gear fights back. Think twice about attacking me unless you wanna feel some pain." The NPC gritted his teeth as he watched his own health bar fall slightly before turning his attention back to the player. "Guess you came prepared huh? Well that's fine, we're just getting started."

The one thing the Gemini didn't have was Sword Arts! This is what would give the boy the edge in this fight. He figured now would've been a good time to execute one of his new sword arts from his recently upgraded dagger skill. "Fad Edge!" He called before cutting up the Geminin with four swift strikes to the arm. The move was powerful, more powerful than any he had in his arsenal previously. He figured an enemy that didn't have such tough armor on would've been hurting pretty bad. The Gemini also manage to get in a clean cut, but was once again met with the thorns of Seul's cloak.

Of course, Seul wasn't going to let the Gemini get away that easily. With the energy he had he managed to fire off another Fad Edge attack and struck the Gemini in a flurry of slashes to various parts of his body. The Gemini was being pushed to his limits for sure but still somehow found the strength to get back up every time to attack. He landed another hit in the boy but the result had been the same as the previous endeavors; low damage being dealt and a whole bunch of thorns from the cloak springing into action in response.

"Wait... This Fight should be over now, I brought you past half." The boy tilted his head slightly in confusion as nothing had really changed upon his apparent win. The NPC just smirked at him and shook its head as if trying to comprehend how anyone could misinterpret such a simple thing. "This is a duel to the death! No one leaves until the other is six feet under!" He said just before striking Seul's arm with his knife. The young player looked on in astonishment before jumping backwards, now on the defensive.

Seul managed to dodge the Gemini's efforts at attacking him quite easily. The NPC might have adopted his appearance but it sure as heck wasn't as skilled with his dagger. There were many openings where this matched could have been finished but was that really the right thing to do? When Seul arrived he had no intentions of killing anyone. Despite being just another part of the game who was he to say that the Gemini wasn't real? At the moment his own body was nothing more than coding for the game as well. Did that mean that he wasn't real?

"I don't wanna fight you anymore!" Enough had been enough. There was no way he could handle killing something that was so human-like. It didn't help that the Gemini also stole his face. "If you don't then I will!" The Gemini replied while missing yet another slash with his dagger. The once friendly duel had taken a turn for the worst it seemed and the Gemini looked intent on killing the boy, a dream that may actually come to pass if he didn't do something quick. But what? How could he just be expected to murder himself in cold blood?

More dodging, more missing. The fight just carried on and on in that manner. It was becoming somewhat sad to watch as the entire ordeal had been one sided from the start. The Gemini was just barely getting by with minimum damage being dealt, but was actually harming himself more than anyone thanks to the thorns ability built into Seul's cloak. The boy really didn't want to see the NPC die in such a away but there didn't seem to be any way around it. Maybe if he really tried reasoning with the guy he'd have a change of heart. Maybe.

Another miss. This was getting ridiculous. Surely the Gemini realized that the match was turning toward being a futile effort. Then why did he insist on fighting? There was no sense to it. Seul just grit his teeth and kept up the pace, moving fluidly out of the way of each incoming attack. Even if the Gemini did land a hit, the cloak's thorns would just shave off more of his health. There was no way for the NPC to make it out of this fight alive. That wasn't Seul being mean, it was just brutal honesty. One that he had a hard time facing.

"What part of I don't want to fight you wasn't clear you idiot!?" The pair had locked blades now, showing how in theory they should have been evenly matched but the disparity between health bars would've shown otherwise. Just how long was the Gemini willing to fight? He wondered if the NPC ever would stop its assault or if it really would take death just to get this guy off his back. The Gemini wasn't too threating, over the course of the fight he only managed to get in a couple of hits and even then Seul's health was in the green. It was basically like hitting a brick wall over and over again.

The Gemini broke the lock first by kicking in Seul's gut. The cloak responded with its usual thorns, jutting out and stabbing into the NPC's leg before he could retract it. The imposter was at the end of his rope. One more attack from either side and he'd be dead. Seul shook his head at the whole situation and sighed. "Unless we stop now this isn't going to end well for you... There's no way for you to win unfortunately and I don't feel like killing myself today. If you hit me one more time you'll die. Let's just call this off now."

Both sides were at a stand still. Neither one wanted to commit the heinous act, but there was nothing that could be done. If either party landed a hit they Gemini would die and a pointless murder would have been completed. It wasn't like Seul's marker would turn orange or anything, but it would be as if his own blood was on his hands. It was a strange position to be in. The Gemini must have wanted to live to right? Holding duels to the death wasn't a good way to go about living because of very situations like these where one becomes overwhelmed by their opponent.

Just as things were turning boring the Gemini rushed forward. "Are you crazy?! You'll die!" Seul called while bracing himself for the inevitable. The Gemini didn't use his dagger but swung a solid fist into the boy's gut, sending him across the dueling arena and onto the ground. The wind had been knocked out of him but the damage he sustained was minor and for some odd the Gemini wasn't affected by the cloak's thorns. "Shut up. I'm killing you one way or another. There's only enough room for one Seul in this world!"

The Gemini thought it'd get lucky with a kick to the boy's face, but Seul was too fast and managed to roll away before the shoe connected. This was insane. Why hadn't the thorns activated?! The Gemini should've died from its last attack yet here he was pursuing Seul with more aggression than ever. How was the boy going to escape this? Would he actually have to kill the Gemini? For what? Just to save his own skin?! The idea left a bad taste in his mouth but what else was there to do at this point?

"Hold still!" The Gemini yelled while bringing his dagger up before stabbing down at Seul repeatedly. Each and every jab the boy evade only reminded him of how frustrating it was to be fighting an opponent with no capacity for reason. "You're insane! Just give it up already, we really don't have to fight each other like this! We can call it a day right now and just each be on our merry ways. Pretend like this whole thing never happened right! So stop trying to kill me now alright? Thanks!"
