[F5 - PP] The Sandman and the Sand Shark <<Blood in the Sand>> COMPLETE

Recommended Posts

Floor five had been the same since his last trip; overbearingly hot with sand for as far as the eye could see. Seul wasn't particularly fond of the extreme variation that came with traveling between the floors, but he decided to deal with it once more as his travels would bring him to the next target on the list. In the center of town he took to his usual activity for forming a party and climbed onto the nearest bench he could find. "Blah, blah, blah, power and friendship. Overcoming limitations, blah. Need help with fighting the field boss in the desert, blah. Anyone that's interested talk to me. Blah." This speech lacked much of the finesse that the others exhibited, but in all honesty he was starting not to care as much. With this time he had spent in Aincrad he had become strong enough to fight alone up to the ninth floor and felt confident in his own abilities in doing so. He even debated fighting the Sand Shark on his own but instead went with his gut which said enlist for aid.

Ebony leaned on the wall of one of the domed buildings on the fifth floor. A few people a day came here to look for help with the Sand Shark boss, and it was a great place for Ebony to make connections. That was her goal as a healer. She looked up as some idiot stood up on a bench and started to give some sort of speech. Apparently he was looking for help with the feild boss. She shook her head  and let out a sigh. Did she really want to hang out with someone who made impromptu speeches? The answer was no, but she'd have to suffer through it. Everyone in this game was important, and she needed to ally herself with as many people as she could.

She walked over to the player and stuck out her hand for a handshake. "I can help out. You can call me Rose, or Ebony." She said introducing herself and hoping that this wouldn't bring on another speech from the player. Granted, the last one had been short and had a lot of 'blah's in it, so maybe it had been made in jest. There was no telling with some people though.

"Eh...?" Of all the people who could have stepped forward, the last he was expecting was a girl who didn't even look like she could fight her way out of a paper bag, let alone a field boss. "Well you see the thing is..." He started only to be cut off by the voice of the small dragon on his shoulder. "Just let her join... You were begging for help only moments ago, after all..." Aside from the begging part, Legna did have a point. It didn't seem like any heavily armored knights were going to be strolling along any time soon and he needed to face the boss sooner rather than later if he wanted to become strong. "Yeah, yeah. Hold on a sec." With a flick of his wrist he brought down the menu panel where he fumbled to the party invite function which only took a second more for him to send an invitation to Ebony. "My name's Seul by the way. Might be helpful if we're working together."

Ebony cocked her head to the side a bit as he started to come up with an excuse to tell her to go away. The dragon on his shoulder said something to him though, and he seemed to relent. It was at times like these that Ebony rethought her life decisions. She was relying on people like this guy to keep her safe while she healed them. Ebony tapped the accept  button and nodded to him, letting her hand fall back to her side. Apparently he wasn't one for handshakes. "Nice to meet you Seul. Im just going to hang back and let you take all the damage. That all right with you?" She asked, smirking a bit. She purposefully didn't mention that she was a healer.

"Fine by me as long as you can keep up." He replied with a shrug. It'd be like she wasn't even there, which didn't bother him much thanks to the enhancements on his shield. He had been relying on his own strength for a while now anyway, so regardless, how much of a difference would it have made if she let him take the hits? It shouldn't have been a problem as long as she didn't slow him down; and the probability of that happening was unlikely. "Alright," He started while hopping down from his makeshift pedestal. "If you're ready we can leave now since Legna and I took care of our business earlier." Clapping his hands together, he smiled at Ebony. Meanwhile the dragon gave a heavy sigh before tossing a concerned glance the girl's way.

Ebony ignored the dragon. She wasn't trying to be rude, she just didn't know if she should talk to it, and was actually a bit creeped out by the fact that it was able to talk. She looked at Seul. "It's by necessity. You'll probably be glad I hung back anyway." She mentioned, hinting at her build type. It was a bit of an obscure hint though. In fact it would make sense for a low level player to say something like that too. "Anyways, lets get going. I'll follow, as long as you know where your going." She gave him a smirk and unsheathed her bloodstained stiletto dagger and motioned forwards with it.

"Whatever you say." He figured she was just being weird or lazy and  pushed her comment aside, taking it with a grain of salt. With that the adventure was underway. Truth be told he had no idea where he was supposed to be going but there was no way he was going to let his party member know that. He figured if they wandered around in the desert for long enough they'd have to run into the beast eventually. Five minutes after leaving town he started to groan about how hot it was in and that the impending fight had to be worth all the hassle of getting to it. There were no doubts in his mind that the others had tuned him out by now, but in an effort to keep up morale he decided to engage in some friendly small talk while they stumbled through the sand. "So, what brought you to the fifth floor on this lovely day, Eb?"

Ebony followed after him, becoming aware that he had no clue where he was going as he branched off to the right of the spawn point and just kept walking like nothing was wrong. She sighed. "If you dont know where your going just tell me." She pointed off to the left. "The boss is over there, but im sure you already knew that." She stated sarcastically, but with a smile. "Oh, nothing much. I hang around on the floors where the quest bosses are and help players out with them. It's a hobby of mine, and it helps me make allies. I've done this quest before, and it's really nothing to sweat over." She paused. "But this heat certainly is." She said after a moment, winking comically.

He opened his mouth to reply but shut it quickly as the cringing from her pun was too powerful. Too close to facepalming, he walked off toward the spawn location for the boss without looking back and took a seat as soon as they arrived. "Well, I don't see Mr. Field Boss anywhere so we might as well get some rest. Legna joined him, resting on his stomach as he reclined back against the sand and let the suns intense rays beat down on him. Moments later the ground began to shake, but he figured it was just a tremor that would pass by. The boy was surprised to be flung from his spot as the mighty Sand Shark shot from the sand below and knocked him face first a couple of feet away before sinking back in. Seul sprang up and hastily wiped the sand from his eyes. A sliver of his health had been knocked off, but thankfully the shields regeneration was taking effect as soft green glow enveloped his body. The the small dragon hovered next to him. "Fight time..." The familiar said while taking to a higher point in the sky to avoid the crossfire. The boy drew his dagger from its scabbard and waited for the shark to strike again. The dorsal fin speeding towards him gave away the beast's location under the ground too easily. As it surfaced for a second attack he was able to fend it off with a quick stab to its side while it passed, leaving behind a red gash before the monster retreated back to the sand. "Hey, we have company!"

Ebony felt a tremor in the ground where they were standing and sprinted back out of the way to let Seul take the attack. She wasn't about to garner any hate just yet. She watched as Seul got hit and cringed. The shark had struck a powerful blow, but Seuls health didn't go down much. His build seemed to lean towards the tank side, which was good. She worked best with tanks. She was overjoyed at the chance to finally heal someone, but as she moved forwards to slap one of her medical patches on him, the sharks dorsal fin knocked into her foot as it passed, not doing any damage, but sending her flying forwards. "Gimmee a second!" She called out, getting back up on her feet and not even noticing that the health had already regenerated.

First a foremost he had to make sure his teammate was alright. She had been knocked over but from the looks of things hadn't been hurt at all. "Just keep an eye open for this thing!" But almost as if on cue, the Sand Shark rose from the sand before him and latched onto his leg with its massive jaws. The monster proceeded to swing him around violently and even attempted to drag the boy beneath the sand a few times, but he retaliated by stabbing at its face with  his dagger. "Wait... What?!" The monster's flesh had been blanketed in a layer of thick sand which was acting as a shield, deflecting any damage his stabs might have done. When it was finished it threw him away before diving yet again. Thankfully his, regen had triggered a second time and closed the wound on his leg too. As Seul got to his feet he gave Ebony a quick glance. "This is impossible-"

Ebony watched as Seulhit the creature but didn't do any damage, and was then hit in return. And then his health regenerated. What was the point of this? She wasn't doing anything, and she barely had any attack or mitigation. His health was regenerating by itself, and he was barely taking any damage. Why was she even there? She sighed and hung back, watching the show from a safe distance. If he needed healing she would give it, but it didn't look like he would need it any time soon.

(OOC: I didn't know if the roller was going to give me booty luck and never let me regen so just incase- xD But...)

Maybe his gear was part of the problem. It was slowing him down! "Alright, time out!" He called while making the accompanying sign with his hands. Before the shark would attack next he decided it was time to get rid of the shield and fumbled through his menu to unequip it. He felt lighter already. He still had the bonuses of his armor and just enough mitigation to not be one killed. There was more determination than ever now. This fight was going to be a breeze going forward.

Ebony clapped sarcastically. She knew that she would regret her decision to be a healer. Not that she regretted it really. She still thought it was an okay idea, as opposed to the great idea she had thought it was before. That was the thing about SAO... Once you started down a path it was very hard to change that path without becoming much weaker. "Good job!" She called out encouragingly, in great contrast to her sarcastic clapping from before. She had just realized that it wasnt his fault that she was bitter, so she shouldn't take it out on him.

"Thanks for the support-" The shark leapt from the sand once more and bit into Seul's shoulder, tearing off a larger chunk of his health than before. There'd be no regeneration to help him this time, but it did provide a prime opportunity to use his Fad Edge sword art. The shark's exposed belly was torn apart by the boy's dagger in four consecutive hits before the beast retreated. He held his shoulder while panting softly as this fight had just become a whole lot more serious. Every hit had to count going forward.

Ebony smiled. His use of the term support was surprisingly accurate. She ran forwards, a medicine patch in hand. This time she didn't trip, and made it  to him successfully. She activated her <<First Aid>> skill, and planted the patch on his neck before retreating again. The patch glowed pink as her skill activated, and a good bit of Seuls health regenerated almost instantly. When her skill was through, the patch burst into blue and green crystals. She gave him a grin from back at her safe point. "Good luck. Ill keep providing support for you!" She shouted.

As luck would have it, the person he brought along happened have the first aid skill. Despite having a lower defense value it should've been fine thanks to Ebony's proficiency in healing. Of course, Seul missed his next attack as the Sand Shark was quick to pass into the ground below and out of sight. "Well, this is fun..." He said while turning his gaze to the girl. "Don't you have any skill in your dagger? Even if you're rank one you could  still stun the thing." Fighting on his own wasn't too difficult, but every little point would help in the end anyway.

Ebony shrugged. "I have a little bit, but I think i'd be more help healing you. That is my main skill after all." She called out. Still, it wouldn't hurt to hit it once or twice. Seul still held a lot of the hate. She charged forward, just as the shark burst up out of the sand and gave Seul a bite on the leg. Ebony dove forward, activating her skill <<Armor Pierce>> as she did so. Her blade impacted the sand sharks side, stunning it. Next turn she would heal Seul again to make sure that his health didn't go into dangerous levels.

With the shark immobile, it was time to launch a counterattack. Seul's dagger too on the blue glow of the Fad Edge as four slashes across the beast's stomach shaved off another good portion of its health. Once the attack ended, he scurried away to place some distance between himself and the boss. The only flaw of using a small weapon was that it required close quarters combat. Though it's damage output was enormous, the dagger left its user significantly open during battle. "Alright, it shouldn't take too long if we keep this up."

Ebony sheathed her dagger and pulled out a medicine patch. She felt that she should get Seul back up to full health as he was the one actually doing the damage. She placed the patch on the other side of his neck, and his health returned to full before the patch dissapeared into blue and green crystals. She unsheathed her sword again and prepared to attack when she next got the chance.
