Gladiators in the Making: Seul vs Ebony! COMPLETE

Recommended Posts

It was his day to shine! Or fall. Whichever came first. He had posted an ad inviting other players to take part in duels against him. If there wsas one thing he wanted to be known for, it was as a combatant in the arena. Part of him probably just enjoyed the attention such matches might bring, because everyone knows people love to watch others fight. Maybe if he built a high enough reputation in the arena he'd be approached to join some high-end guild or worshipped as a celebrity! The thoughts flooded his mind as he made his way onto center stage. Hhis opponent for this fight would be Ebony, a girl he had only recently met. It was surprising to hear of her interest in the duels as she played a support role during their last encounter. Perhaps she had acquired a new skill or some different gear between their last meeting? Only time would tell. Seul took a seat as he went over his stats before the fight. His biggest problem would be energy consumption. Many of his skills were costly, but if he could make his energy last he figured everything would turn out fine.

Ebony sighed as she entered the arena, sitting down in one of the empty seats to check up on her stats. She was very excited to be fighting Seul, but was pretty sure she knew how this fight would end. After all, twenty three whole skill points had gone into her healing. Seul was close in level to her, which meant that he had around twenty three or so skill points to invest in other things. Still, the point of this fight was to have fun and maybe acquire a skill point while they were at it. Satisfied that she was ready to fight, she stood up and waved to Seul from across the stadium with both hands. It looked like she was standing on the opposite side from him.

"Hey!" As he saw the girl approach, he rose to his feet and made his way toward the center of the arena. "Fancy seeing you here. You never really struck me as the dueling type. Still it should be interesting." With that he opened his inventory and sent the duel invitation. Upon accepting, the countdown timer would start and provide them both with a moment to collect any last minute thoughts before the fight. All he had to do was lower her health to half. He could do this.  With a little more patience than usual, he could pull it off. "Good luck. Let's have a good match alright?"

(I'd be happy to just let you decide who goes first, but sure)

Ebony smiled at Seul. "I didn't become a healer for the fun. I've always been a DPS player in other games. I just thought healer was the way to go for this one." She explained, drawing her dagger and tapping the accept button on the duel request. The timer started it's slow tick down from thirty. "All right, lets have a friendly duel. Try not to kill me please." She said grinning at him happily.

(Permission from Seul to do a double post. I think...)

Ebony prepared to attack the moment the timer hit zero, her dagger held at the ready. The timer seemed to go in fast forward, no time seeming to pass before it signaled the start of the duel. It was strange, at the start the timer had seemed to be going slowly, but once the adrenaline had started rushing, everything had sped up. It made a bit of sense from a psychological perspective, and said a lot about her. For other people, time seemed to slow down, as they relied on their thoughts to guide them, while for her it sped up as she relied on her instincts, not even thinking about what she was doing in a high stress situation. She sprinted forwards and sent a single stab at Seul, ending up going right by him on account of her hurried rush. She spun around to confront him again.

The timer had hit zero signaling the start of the duel and Seul instinctively drew his dagger from the scabbard at his hip while raising his shield. The fight was off to a great start. Though Ebony had taken the initiative to move first, her attack had failed and left her open to a counter from the boy. Turning on his heel while she passed, he attempted to close the distance between them once she spun around by charging forward with his weapon extended in a forward stab. He was certain the knife would find its mark, but the odds of him missing were also great.

Ebony jammed her heel into the ground and spun on her heel, ducking as she did so to dodge his stab. At the same time she brought her dagger around and stabbed it into his chest, using her momentum to then pull her weapon out and continue moving past him. She turned around again only to see him paralyzed. Perfect.

His move had missed; the girl was faster than he envisioned. Seul's body tensed as he fell to one knee, twitching every now and then but not being able to move otherwise. In the corner of his vision he could see an icon that now displayed a yellow lighting bolt associated with the paralysis status effect. Though the damage to his health had been minimal from Ebony's strike, not being able to move was a definite drawback to look out for during their fight. His eyes were fixated on the ground as he couldn't turn to face his opponent and he waited for the literal backstabbing he was certain was coming.

Ebony smiled at her luck and needlessly sprinted forward, her dagger set up for a stab. It turned out that the sprint was a terrible idea though, and her foot slipped on a loose pebble, sending her in a headfirst roll right past Seul. She grimaced and got back to her feet, attempting to salvage her pride. "I did that on purpose. It's not polite to attack an immobilized person." She said to him, hoping that he hadn't seen the fall.

With the effects of paralysis wearing off he was ready to launch back into action. Rising back to his feet, he decided to ignore her obvious blunder out of generosity since he hadn't been attacked while down. "That was nice of you, but right now we're opponents in battle! Being nice will only get you so far." It was time to start dealing some damage. With his dagger pointed forward he activated the strongest sword art in his arsenal, the Fad Edge. The move propelled him forward and allowed his glowing, blue blade to tear away at Ebony's form in quick succession. Four slashes horizontally across her stomach dealt moderate damage while leaving behind red gash marks that would eventually fade away. With the hit successful, he took a jump backwards to anticipate her next attack.

Ebony had guessed how this fight would go, but she had had no idea that Seul was so strong. Her hits were barely doing any damage, and his were doing a good bit. She leapt forward as he jumped back and landed a stab in his chest before retreating herself, wary of his weapon. The only way she could win this would be by a combination of smarts and luck. And she wasnt known to be an extremely lucky person.

Though the force behind it was great, stab did little damage as his regen quickly closed the wound on his chest. He had to keep pressing the attack. The girl had tried to place space between them, but Seul quickly closed the gap again with the activation of the Fad Edge. The blue blade found its way, tracing cuts across Ebony in four slashes across her chest. Her health had dropped greater than last time and he figured if the match kept going this well it'd end in his favor.

Ebony let out a little shriek as Seul caught up to her and landed a bunch of powerful strikes to her chest. She quickly activated <<Disguise>>, and her appearance changed to that of Tristan's, the front liner tank, before rushing forwards and embedding her dagger in Seuls stomach with the help of <<Armor Pierce>>, a dagger skill that left the opponent stunned. She retreated once again. She was doing a lot of retreating in this fight, but felt like it was necessary.

He could feel his vision blur as the stun began to take effect. There was no way he'd be able to hit her in such a state. He could barely stand and would stumble with each attempt at a step. With some effort he was able to raise his shield high enough to hopefully serve as some form of protection until he was able to fight again.

Ebony smiled, glad that she had stunned Seul. Still, it was a futile battle. Maybe they should have done first strike... With his mitigation her attacks did minimum damage, and with his regen any damage she did he healed a turn or two later. It wasn't even a matter of luck, the duel had already been decided. She wasn't about to give up though. She ran at him and slipped around his shield, sending her dagger into his shoulder. Her enhancement activated, paralyzing him as well. That was certainly lucky, but she was sure that it wouldn't be enough.

"Ugh..." He grumbled while falling once again under the effects of the paralysis status ailment. His actions slowed and he was no longer able to maintain balance before falling onto his back with a thud. As the regen kicked in, he looked up at the sky feeling this was the only peaceful aspect of this fight. At least in this state he'd be able to regain some of his lost energy. Seemed like as good a time as any to take a nap, so he pretended to sleep; snoring loudly and in an exaggerated way.

Ebony watched as he fell over backwards and started to snore exaggeratedly. She let out a laugh. It was quite funny. She debated letting him hit her a few times just to end the fight but decided against it. She had to keep fighting to the end, even if she had no chance with his healing ability. Was this how mobs felt when they attacked a player and she healed them right after? Probably. It was a bit rude to attack someone while they were down, but she had to  at least try it. She walked up to him and jammed her dagger into his back, getting lucky and having paralyze activate once again. She wondered if maybe all of this paralyzing would make him surrender out of boredom. Or maybe he had actually fallen asleep.

Truth be told, he had nodded off for a moment there until the dagger was lodged in his back. "HEY WHAT ARE YOU DOING?! I CALL FOUL!" He yelled before noticing the paralysis hadn't worn off yet. Attempting to move was futile, but there weren't any signs of distress on his face.  From the corner of his eye he could see the damage being healed and sighed before shifting his gaze back up toward the girl. "Are you sure you want to keep going...?"

Ebony let out a long sigh, stepping back away from Seul. "As it happens, no I dont want to continue. Would you be adverse to ending it here? I think we both know how this duel is going to end." She didn't want to continue fighting, but she refused to concede, even if the end of this duel was obvious. If they both agreed to end it she would be fine with that though. She sheathed her dagger while she waited for his answer.

He laid there for a bit, thinking over her question. Maybe knowing full well that this duel had been one-sided, would it really be worth it to continue fighting? The paralysis symbol had vanished from his vision and it was time to make his decision. "Call it off...?" He mumbled before closing his eyes. In the next second, he jumped to his feet and was in a full speed dash at the girl. Dagger in hand, he activated his sword art and cut her four times across the shoulder, coming dangerously close to her neck with each strike. With a wry smile plastered across his face and bloodlust in his eyes he began to laugh. "BUT WE'RE JUST GETTING STARTED!"
