An arbitrary tempering. One day she was out in the cold fighting the biggest, meanest thing that could be found on Floor 4, the next she was up in the desert trying to track down a personal menace that she had to settle a score with.

The evolved land shark had evaded her wrath for a little too long. It was with NIGHT's questioning and Fleur's obligatory warning that she took on the hunt, pulling along Yuki to trek under the hot sun in the late morning. As the two scaled a sand dune, the knight turned to her paladin, their backs facing the sun and wind as she raised an arm to gesture to the visage ahead of them. Amidst the vase expanse was a depression, and in it a rolling orb coated in bronze scales, drifting against the smooth walls of the pit it resided in.

"Our mark. Your move first, Yuki. Take us in."

"Hynes, you bastard. You didn't tell me it was this far..!" she groaned, kicking another foot of sand away. Even if the desert heat couldn't affect her, it didn't change the fact that walking in sand was a huge pain in the ass. It was like walking in water except it got stuck in your shoes. "I'm going to murder him when I find him," she growled, holding up her hands in front of her as she imagined strangling the almost-useless infobroker. Seriously, what was she paying him for? 

"Sorry Pacco. I probably shouldn't have dragged you all the way out here," she mumbled, looking over to her bird familiars. She wasn't sure if Pacco could feel the heat, since she was the one with the survival skill, not him. He didn't look like he was burning from the inside out, but he looks like that twenty-four seven anyways! Cordelia sighed, debating whether if she should just stop now and go back to get more information out of him. For all she knew, the Terra Firma could be in the other direction! She was just about to spin around on her heel before something caught her eye.

She squinted, recognizing it as the figures of two very familiar people. 

"Hey NIGHT, Yuki!" Cordelia raised her hand over her head as she jogged over to the two players. "Are you guys here to take a quest..." she trailed off, her attention shifting over to the area below them, where a rolling ball of rough scales inhabited. 

"Oh thank God, I didn't have to come here for nothing," she whispered, giving a silent thanks to whatever divine being is out there.

The distant sound of the three rivers can be heard, giving a soothing and seemingly peaceful area where one can rest. It can also be taken to group gathering to give an atmosphere.

☆ YAMATA NO OROCHI STATUE:
     ▷ A small statue [Uncommon Item] that can be placed in a home, proving that you defeated «The Leech Lich». When used, it gives +1 LD for a thread. When touched, it can give off the smell of the musty, re-used air, the heaviness of the floor's feeling of being trapped with no escape. It also gives off the feeling of dread, being watched from every angle, and unseen creatures waiting in the shadows. It can also be taken to group gatherings to give an atmosphere.

 MORETSUNA STATUE:
     ▷ A small statue [Uncommon Item] that can be placed in a home, proving that you defeated the Mighty Mōretsuna. When used, it gives +50 base health for one thread. When touched, it can give off the smell of the ocean from the beaches surrounding the islands. The sound of waves crashing along the shore and the scent of the sea air carried from far off lands, and the warm feeling of the sun against a person's skin. Can also be taken to group gathering to give an atmosphere.

☆ TANOS STATUE:
     ▷ A small statue [Uncommon Item] that can be placed in a home, proving that you defeated the Colossal Titan. When used, it gives +15 Mitigation for a thread. When touched, it can give off the smell of the 19th floor's plains, the vastness that comes with them and the smell of winds carried miles from all around, and from the nearby mountains. The low winds come and go throughout a person's ears can be heard, but not felt. It can also be taken to group gathering to give an atmosphere.

☆ MOTHRA STATUE:
     ▷ A small statue [Uncommon Item] that can be placed in a home, proving that you defeated the Stealthy Suterusu. When used, it gives +1 Energy recovery for a thread. When touched, it can give off the smell of the old and abandoned ruins found throughout the floor. The sweet plants that grow within the overgrown areas combine to make a pure, sweet scent that can almost be seen as romantic.  A slow, steady rhythm can be heard, echoing over mountains from hidden tribes. Can also be taken to group gathering to give an atmosphere.

BIALAS STATUE:
     ▷ A small statue [Uncommon Item] that can be placed in a home, proving that you defeated the Shocking Taneuma. When used, it gives +1 Taunt buff for a thread. When touched, it can give off the smell of the forests surrounding the area. The sweet smell of fresh sap coming from maple trees is strong and gives a fragrant aroma. The sound of a nearby lake can be heard, a fish can also be heard jumping to the surface and landing back down into the water with a small splash every few moments, and the distant sounds of birds can be heard as well. It can also be taken to group gathering to give an atmosphere.

"That one's got a pretty flower!", exclaimed Elora as she ran toward an especially tall cactus. She had spent a good portion of the morning traversing the desert landscape that laid just outside of Fortaleza. Being so close to a settlement, she figured she wouldn't really need to worry about encountering strong monsters. That was, until she found herself lost among the sand dunes. The Sun had risen to its apex, and Elora was starting to feel its effect on her resolve. Discovering the occasional cactus for her to attempt to gather was about the only redeeming factor of her escapade. With ease, she lifted her spear and nonchalantly cut the flower from its base, adding the item to her inventory. At least my stamina isn't suffering from the heat...yet...

"Hey NIGHT, Yuki!", she thought she heard a voice call out. Turning to find the source, she noticed a snowy-haired player running to meet two other women. When had the three of them gotten there? Elora felt uncomfortable at the thought of approaching them to ask for help, as their gear marked them as being at a much higher level than her. You've been out here for hours trying to find your way back to the town. At this rate you'll be lucky if you can survive an attack from a horse fly. She quickly swallowed her pride and started to make her way over to and up the large mountain of sand.

The paladin stretched her arms and readied herself for the fight. This boss a bit strong and had some phasing mechanics, but that hardly bothered her. What really bothered her was that it had pretty high evasion compared to other bosses and without howl, she could have some difficulty actually hitting it to keep up aggro. Was this too much for just Night and her?

"Hey NIGHT, Yuki!" Yuki spun around to be greeted by a very familiar face. Cordelia had just fallen into their laps. She remembered how amazingly she fought Ugzeke back when she was a lower level, she was just what the two needed! "Cordelia!" Yuki said with a smile. "Would you like to join us? Easy experience to be gained. Only thing I can ask is that I get the bosses special drop."

A green haired figure came out of the distance, hard to see up until now thanks to the visible heat searing from the sands. She looked very low leveled, but that wasn't surprising since they were only on floor five. "Oi, be careful." She called to the stranger. "There's a really strong boss around these parts. Stay and watch if you like, but we're about to kill it." With that, Yuki activated her parry status and readied to jump into the thick of battle. "I'm going in, you guys ready?"

Maybe she was out of it today. One moment she swore her level wasn't up to snuff as her paladin friend -- the next it had corrected itself. Or perhaps it was a glitch of the system? NIGHT couldn't say for sure.

Her attention went to the call for herself and her paladin. A familiar face? It was Cordelia, and the woman waved her over with a raised palm and a nod. Before she could even mention the presence of the boss monster, Yuki had already given her the heads up. Guess it was easy experience time for the both of them. What made it more interesting was the fact that a newbie looked to be nearby. Maybe this could be free experience for them too.

"Hey, take this."

With a quick pull of her interface, she'd sent the stranger a party invitation. In the next few seconds, she'd disappeared into the sand pit, form fading out of existence with a scatter of noise fragments.

Cordelia's hand rose and offered the pinkette a delicate wave. "Fine by me. I'm just here for the experience," she exclaimed, a wide smile on her face at the thought of gaining such. This quest was said to offer a butt ton, at least, that's what she inferred from the info that Hynes had given her. 

"Ah- thanks..!" Without reluctance, she accepted the party invitation, now even more eager to fight against the plated beast. It's been a while since she's been in battle alongside NIGHT, and she was excited to see how much she had improved! 

Cordelia looked over her shoulder, at the green-haired girl who somehow made her way into this part of the desert. Through a brief examination, she concluded that this girl wasn't an experienced player - no offense, but it was easy to judge someone on that based on what their gear was. "Please stay on the outskirts of the battle. From what I've gathered, this boss is more unpredictable than most," she said, outstretching her hand to the girl before smiling. "And it'd be very unfortunate to have a stranger's blood on my hands."

She looked over to Yuki and nodded. "Ready!" 

Without a second to spare, Cordelia dashed down the sandy dune, her two blackbirds flowing behind her like a feathery cape. With a hand placed on her hilt and the other on her sheath, Cordelia drew Onimaru, it's valiant black blade reflecting the sun's harsh rays before she activated a San Ge. Just as she swung her katana, ready to blow away this tough scaled reptile away, it swerved tightly to her right, narrowly missing her blade by a hair. 

"I... missed?"

Cordelia blinked in dismay. How long had it been since she had missed an attack? Even after buffing down on accuracy, Onimaru couldn't connect with it? She huffed, jumping back and away from the rolling mob. "Careful, it's fast!"

Before Elora could even offer an introduction, the three players had lunged into the thick of battle. Considering they had all expressed concern for her safety in this situation, she felt it wise to heed their advice and remain distant from their excursion. Contently accepting the invitation to reap rewards without putting in any actual effort, Elora proceeded to sit in the sand and watch as the action unfolded. I've never seen anyone fight a monster as strong as this before!, she excitedly anticipated, One day, I'll be doing just the same. If I'm lucky, I might even be strong enough to handle it on my own. 

It seemed that things were developing somewhat slowly, so Elora directed her attention to building a sand castle instead. The only problem was, there wasn't really any water around to use for adhesion. Actually...! She opened her inventory and found one of the cactuses she had harvested. This might work. Slicing it open, she mixed some of its sap with the sediment until it formed a small batch of malleable material. I feel like a child making mud pies while the adults handle the real work.
