  1. That'd take too long. It'd be basically the same thing if not longer. Not to mention, Say a group goes in, and all go inactive. If there are 10 people in that group, You'd have to wait 240 Hours before being able to officially say they're inactive. That idea still doesn't work

No, it would be faster. More players might die because of increased risk but creating competition to clear the bosses is a good thing; it would promote guilds more and really give front-line players a sense of urgency to 'get their first'. We'd see more of these bosses being cleared sooner by smaller, more competitive groups versus larger month-long sign-up group efforts. Your issue is with it taking 240 hours to rotate through ten inactive players and that is simply an issue from it requiring 24 hours to post per inactive person which is an extremely reasonable time-limit given this a global play by post game.

That 24-hour rule is extremely unlikely to change which means the only ways to reduce inactivity is to reduce the number of inactive people signing up. We already have rules in play which state that a failure to post initially removes you from the thread, the only other thing you can do at this point is reduce the number of people who sign up per boss thread and reduce the chances they are inactive. That's best done on a first-come, first-served basis, created by natural scarcity. Their will be one boss battle which will likely be cleared on the first attempt; if you and all of your intended allies don't sign-up before another set of players do, you're going to be stuck sitting outside the boss room while they get their attempt.

The more people you have to organize for a boss battle, the less likely it will be your group gets all their members posted and signed-up before a smaller group does, but at the same time, that smaller group has the higher chance of dying. It's a risk/reward scenario which gives smaller groups more of an opportunity rather than 'the first ten players to randomly sign-up'. It also gives true solo's an opportunity. Once all of those allied members have signed-up in the thread, the GM can start running the boss thread like usual by removing any inactive players, but you'll likely have less inactive players simply because those who have rushed to complete the sign-up process, are going to be more active then someone who comes on and signs up with little to no affiliation to anyone else in the thread.

  2. You're all making a mountain out of a molehill. You don't need to limit the number of players per boss battle, you just need to not waste time starting the next boss battle. A week after clearing a floor, open up the boss thread, and let people go after it solo or in groups immediately, one attempt at a time. I'd actually say two weeks for more realism but you're wanting to start moving floors quickly and most people only have 8 weeks of summer so one week is a better gestation period before opening the boss thread. If you want to organize higher numbers of players attacking the boss in one attempt, then coordinate among yourselves, but realistically, you could almost solo/double-team the bosses right now. I don't see you all breaking through floor 21 though without 4-5 more level 35+ players though, so don't be surprised if you don't make it as high as you think you will in this push.

  3. You're going to need to focus more on numbers if you want to hunt down PK'ers. Both for your own safety and the safety of your guildmates, once you start taking out PK'ers they'll likely push back. So you need to really work on gaining levels and on gaining quality members who won't mind RPing together. OP's could be dangerous, even PP's depending on those invited.

I'm not discouraging you, I wish you success, just offering some other alternative ideas and considerations. You can focus on solely boosting your level by your lonesome, or you can find 7 - 8 really good, active people, watch each others backs, gain levels together, and hunt as a group.

  4. As X's played to the crowd, I couldn't help but feel infuriated.

"Really? Playing tricks in the middle of a battle?"

Very well, X. I said while waving my sword in front of me. Feeling the warmth of my battle healing ability, I attacked, but slipped on the water bottle. Rubbing the back of my head, I stood back up. "Ow..."

  5. "Interesting. We'll have to grab a meal then. I'm sure there are lots of places in Aincrad that we haven't eaten at yet." Letting the thought go, I stopped and peered down at the stream next to me. Kneeling, I took a long drink from it's cool water. The good thing about the 3rd Floor, is that the water was plentiful enough to where you could pack light if you were going on simple hunting raids in the fields.

Speaking of fields, I thought to myself while peering at the field we were about to enter. Ahead of us stood a field of daffodils, in full bloom this time of year. They were bright yellow, with orange centers. Peacefully, I walked into the field and felt the breeze around me, enjoying the cool evening air.

Spying an odd set of flowers, I bent over and plucked one. Adding it to my inventory, I looked back out over the field.

    "It's nice here."

  6. Seeing the woman peruse his wares, Reu watched the typical gamut of expressions wash over her face. First was curiousity, followed by a grossed-out face, and then finally, they'd see something they thought they could stomach, and the expression would slowly change to one of inner-delight. His fish were all good, you just had to have the right...taste for certain fish over others. And sometimes his fish was similar to feeding vegetables to a child: you eat them because their good for you, not because you want too.

Watching the player Meokka approach him, Reu happily fulfilled the transaction. "Thank you so much, please come again soon!"

  7. Feeling my thrust out arm lifted up, I was surprised at the strength of X's grip. Perhaps his martial arts ability was higher then I had been expecting. Suddenly, he launched a kick into my exposed rib-cage. Not finished yet, he then re-chambered and delivered a side-kick into my knee. Feeling it buckle, I stumbled back several steps. Luckily the knee wasn't broken, though I was going to be limping on it from now on. The ribs however, those were a different story. As I tried to take a deep breath I felt my torso ignite in a fire of sensual pain. The game was definitely simulating a broken rib, probably several.

Struggling to breathe, I knew that I couldn't show weakness to X. Any slip in concentration would give him the upper-hand and the battles momentum. Forcing myself to breath, I pushed my weight onto my injured knee, and drove forward. Attacking him, I knew that I  would need to bait and wait to hit the counter. Moving into punching range, I extended my right hand, my non-sword arm out, muffling his left hand. From there I watched until he struck out with the big right straight. Slipping the straight to the outside, I whipped my sword up and buried it into X's gut hoping I just showed him that I wasn't done yet!

  8. Sand billowed across the arena, the dark-dirt of the ground was painted with blood-stains from previous bouts. A crowd, an incredibly-sized crowd had come out to see this bout. In the shadows they placed side bets, argued among themselves, and then turned back to the center of the ring, ready to cheer on the next set of fighters. As X was now in the center of the ring posturing, the crowd had reached an almost deafening roar.

Ripping out my sword, I walked straight into the arena with bad intentions on my mind. Ignoring the crowd, ignoring the sounds around me, I walked straight until I was standing roughly six feet in front of X. Making direct eye-contact the entire time, I intended to let him know just how serious I was.

Pointing my sword straight at him, I coolly let loose, "Let's get too it."

    And then I charged.

  9. Continuing on down the river-bed, I quickly hopped down into the mud. Feeling the soil squish beneath my feet, I took a deep, long smell of the river-bed around me. It smelled...wet, and something else, something distinct but hard to describe. Petrichor. The term for the scent after a rainfall. Clearly, it's rained here recently.

"I grew up in America Calrex, that's obvious but, I grew up in the American south. Sweet tea, pecan pie, where the peaches grow. And a little bit of chicken-fried, that's home you know. Right here in the mud, this is no different then how I spent a few saturday mornings when I was younger. I might hate the elves on this floor, but there are things that remind me of home here."

"You know, speaking of chicken-fried, this is the ONLY floor we've found so far where you can get chicken-fried steak with a side of asparagus? Or well...it tastes like asparagus, I think it's something else here, diondis or something it was called. It's in that little restauran-te shop-pe outside Delilah Village, the one off the main road."

"It's not my favorite meal in Aincrad, but it has to be top 5 with the asparagus-esque food. What's been your favorite meal and place to eat here in Aincrad?"

  11. Polishing off his final Straw-Kiwi Cheesecake, Reu made a mental note that he would need to go purchase more sweets. They made an excellent snack on his fishing expeditions, and now he was ready to get to some fishing! Casting out, I quickly pulled in a small uncommon fish. 'Not bad', I said to myself. My next line was pulled out quickly too. This time I struggled to reel it in, but eventually I had a handle on the line. Pulling from the water, I uncovered a giant purple octopus! Moving down, I slowly poked it with a stick. Suddenly, with a roar it attacked! Running and screaming, I pulled out my sword, found my ground, and went through several rounds of combat. Once it was all said it done, I had three more fish drops for my day's take!

  12. Some people use item templates; have crafts with nothing in them as reserved- IE I made a perfect weapon but nobody has ordered one yet, so I leave everything blank till one is ordered then I go back and fill in the details on the earlier craft.

    Bingo.

  13. Patiently tracking the spider with my eyes, I strained to keep up with its movements. Even with the illumnination of my night vision skill, it was still quite hard to keep up with this beast in the darkness. Noisily it scampered about, first moving onto the walls, then the ceiling, and then the walls again. Circles, it walked circles around me. Undeterred, I kept my confidence high. Waiting for it to finally launch its attack, I met it with my blade once again. I was still limited in the use of my right-hand, but my left was more then skilled enough to hit the beast as it flew through the darkness. With a final screech, it exploded into data fragments.

Looking at my battle results page, I was thankful for the large amount of Col and materials left behind by the spider. However, my right-hand was still trapped in webbing. Looking down the hall in the direction of a startling noise, I realized, something else was making its way towards me.

  14. As the spider came rushing back, I once again used my adept footwork to avoid its deadly strike. As the creature came close, I noticed green goo coming from its pincers. 'Poision?' I thought to myself. Reaching out with my sword, I again was able to strike the creature before it could attack. This time however, it pushed through my critical strike and leaped at me, intending to do me harm. As it's massive, disgustingly hairy legs bore down on top of me, it was all I could do to direct the pincers away from me. Finally, I was able to shift my feet to the side and through the beast away from me.

  15. My right arm trapped, I pulled until my wrists were tingling from pain. The webbing wrapped around my wrist wasn't going to break. Frustrated, I decided to focus myself on defending as best I could. I had limited mobility in the area I was in, and so I setup my footwork as best I could. As the spider darted in, I relied on my armor and my footwork to send its attack glancing off. Prepping my sword for a counter-strike, I lifted it, and let the sword skill do the work. Feeling the pulse of a critical hit, I watched as the spider went careening across the pitch-black room and felt the warmness of my battle healing ability. Thankful for night vision, I did my best to keep my eyes on the spider, hoping to not lose it in the giant, blackened room.

  16. "Sounds good. Let's go thaddaway!" Reu exclaimed jubilantly. The pair slowly made their way, following the windy river. Stopping to double-check the map several times, Reu was glad to see that this floor had been mapped out extensively by now. Not only did it make it pretty easy to not get lost, but other players had included data on the map indicating material drop points, or monster spawn points, as-well as other useful information. Walking through the river reeds, Reu stopped and examined their type.

"See this? It's called Arundo Donax; they are reeds used in making musical instruments. Both here in Aincrad and in real life. The level of detail in this virtual world is amazing. See, not many people actually know that some of the reeds are collectible, and even then they think it's mostly used in alchemy, but not Arundo, Arundo is best sold back to the performers who know they need the stuff. It creates a higher quality woodwind instrument, and they'll pay a premium for it; but, because you can't tell what materials were used in a craft, not too many of them know to use the stuff. The ones I know of that are aware of its uses, are keeping it on the down-low right now."

  17. Standing in pitch blackness I was forced to come to terms with the fact I was stuck. With this apparent, the only thing I  try and cut my way out. Taking my blade, I powered up a sword skill and smashed it against the webbing. With a loud clang, my sword bounced off. It really was as hard as steel! Unable to attack, unable to move, all I could do was sit back and listen as the spider scurried around me. Thankfully, the spider seemed hesitant to attack me, no doubt afraid of my hitting it once again with my sharpened sword.

It seemed to be slowly testing the waters for how close it could get to me without me being able to hit it. Waiting patiently, I switched my sword to my free hand, and quietly watched the spider. Finally, feeling it was close enough, I darted out with my blade. The steel tip of my sword struck the creature, and lit up several red 'damage' points on the beast. Trapped, alone, in the dark, I smiled.

  19. Coming right up to the spider I drove my blade deep into the creature sending it staggering backwards. Recovering quickly, the eight-legged creature scampered up the wall to my right side, and then it shot a web pinning my arm in place. Pulling at the arm, I could feel that I wasn't going to be able to get it free; the webbing felt as strong as steel cable. Suddenly, the spider leaped out at me and drove its pincers deep into my trapped arm. Shaking it off, I was still unable to move, trapped by the webbing.

  20. Making my way forward I looked at the walls around me, they were rough, porous, and not very soft to the touch. Still, the architecture of this cave was wrong. It didn't look...natural. The ceiling was carved out in a triangle shape, while the passage itself was quite wide and yet had a flat floor, all things which wouldn't make sense from natural erosion or even simulated procedural generation.

By this point Reu was quite certain Aincrad had been developed with extremely powerful procedural, analog, genetic algorithms; meaning that each area of Aincrad was developed with a rough idea in mind by the creator Akihiko Kayaba naturally, but it was enhanced with complicated ever-evolving algorithms which were dependent on not only themselves but also other information they gleaned from data fed too it. You could have every algorithm used by Kayaba and you would never recreate an exact replication of Aincrad, even if you supplied the same data to the algorithms, there was simply no guarantee they would evolve in the exact same manner each time. No doubt about it, Kayaba was every bit the genius he was made out to be.

Continuing his examination of the area, Reu slowly advanced up the corridor when suddenly, a Giant Spider suddenly leaped down in front of him. Reu charged in, ready to do battle with the beast.

  21. Fishing back into the stream, Reu pulled out a handful of stones. Sifting through them, he finally held up an aquamarine stone which glinted in the evening sun. "Looks like I found another of these stones. I wonder if Mari of Zandra will be willing to purchase them. Cal, it doesn't look like you're having very much luck today! You need to get on your game haha. Where we head too next is your call, I'll leave the decision up to you."
