  1. He nodded in understanding, not about to doubt the guy who actually had done this before, probably many times in the past. "Gotcha, well, contribution is contribution." He told himself that at least, pretty sure he could at least put enough of a dent into the rat's numbers that Takao wouldn't need to send out two more attacks before the boss. Much like the previous rat he found a straggler away from the main horde and sliced it apart with his claws, watching the creature shatter into nothingness save the material in his inventory. "... Not sure how much I can get done with rat fur, but hey, profit!" He said softly while looking around the area curiously. "So, do all floors have these secret underground ruins, or are we just invading a pharaoh's tomb and destroying the balance of this floor?" He imagined an army of mummies assaulting the main town as part of a curse. "I'm sure I'll survive the boss, especially since I got help" He smirked to the other player as they were left with only the final third of the dungeon.

  2. Kalesh listened to the meeting with a smirk ever since he finished saying his piece. He sensed hostility from all sides, not just from or to Opal, but among the regular players as well. As an outsider to these politics. He chuckled weakly and took a long swig of his cider before setting the cup aside and stretching his arms out. He wondered if what Mack had just said would have extended to the player Ssendom were he alive. Before Opal killed him, he was an orange player, one with a unique skill, but orange none-the-less. He knew better than to voice it though. There were enough targets being painted around and he didn't need one on his own back... But one question was stuck on his mind so he raised his hand and asked a risky question to the vice commander of the knights "Justice, as in an eye for an eye? Or imprisonment and a hearing?" He immediately felt regret and knots in his stomach after having questioned that, but using the word justice sent a shiver of emotion through him, he couldn't let it slide. Good natured or not, a large guild needs to be careful where they draw their line. If the knights weren't careful, they could be seen as dictators, using their strength to force other players to abide by their views and opinions. "I have no problem with you or the knights, but... Justice is a very strong word in a world without a governing body. Did we hold a vote in my absence for a prime minister or president? King? Did someone from outside this place put on a nervegear to tell us who will be exempt from punishment when we get out of here? Or are you and your guild declaring yourselves the law, the ones who will govern those not in your fold by your laws?" He sighed, knowing he had said far, far too much. "Yeah, punish those who do bad things, but a life is a life. Let the police, the guys on the other side of the nervegear trying to figure out where Kayaba is or how to get us out, deal with those who break 'the laws'... Unless what you meant was vengeance, in which case, continue on, but I'd rather we not pretty up the words to be more flattering. Two wrongs don't make a right, and I pity whoever you may order to murder for 'justice'." He was going to have to sleep with his weapons equipped tonight, no way was he sleeping anywhere without a locked door. He felt like the assassins were already on speed dial, but that was just him being paranoid and nervous after speaking out against one of the most powerful men and largest guilds in Aincrad as a lone outsider, and not a particularly strong one either.

Having voiced his piece, he tried to avoid eye contact with anyone who may have been staring at him. He wanted to get out as bad as anybody, and wanted to help, but he wouldn't pretend nothing was wrong. He understood the gist of the strategy at least, so if he had to leave he could, but he hoped that it wouldn't need to come to that, or worse yet him being banned from taking part for his words.

  3. Kalesh glanced up at the sky and saw the smoke and its closeness, a grin crossing his lips as he said to the other player "I'll take the lead. It's my quest, I think that's pretty much the least I can do. He chuckled softly while making sure his jacket was on right and his claws properly attached. He hadn't doubted that they were, but it never hurt to double check, particularly when someone else suggests it. "I'm going to start running now. When I find the cat, I'll try to get a hit on it... Let's do this!" Having given his warning and explanation Kalesh made a charge towards the smoldering wilderness!

True to his word he kept running through the flaming wilderness, trying to find the enemy in question. Then he heard a roar and felt a wave of heat coming towards him! The monster it seemed had discovered him a bit before he had discovered it! He barely had enough time to shield his eyes before a rush of flame pushed against his virtual body, the source having been the creature named Byakko. "Hooooot!!" He says despite the lack of pain, the temperature switch still all forms of uncomfortable. Gritting his teeth he charged towards the large firecat with his claws held at the ready, ready to give it revenge for what it had done to him. When he was close enough his jabbed his claws again and again into the creatures flaming flesh, feeling the warmth around his hands as he struck the beast a grand total of thirteen times before having to pull away, his metal fingers glowing slightly and steaming as Kalesh retreated back to cool down.

  4. Kalesh nodded in understanding "True, but I'm not benefiting much from straight-damage honestly. It helps, but not enough to be spectacular." He shrugged his shoulder "I am mostly going bleed since it will maximize when these things do manage to critical." That was the plan anyways, it was very much only in the planning phase, having yet to be put into practice. "Well, actually I plan to mix it up for the occasion. My current armor is already evasion based, I don't need more... The armor I ordered is straight mitigation, with light momentum to fill in the extra slot." He grinned "If I need evasion, I can wear this jacket over the armor, best of both world, or I can ditch the jacket for accuracy..." He crosses his arms in thought "I am actually saving up materials for a second jacket when necessary. It fits more into the 'endurance' character I am working towards along with the mitigation. It's thorns and... Honestly I am not sure what I'll do with the other slot. Maybe another Light Momentum? We'll see..." He shrugged his shoulders "Sooo in short, I am going to be stacking defense, thorns, and trying to outlast my opponents, wear them down over time with bleed and continuous full-power assaults thanks to the energy costs... There are skills I need to invest in, and mods to get as well, but I am working on it bit by bit." He wasn't under the impression his idea couldn't be done, and done better, by someone else... but he still wanted to see how far he could get with the build in its final stage.

  5. Kalesh followed Takao as he revealed a dungeon, happily nodding to the stronger players' plan. "Sounds good, go for it." With Takao leading Kalesh followed only a few steps behind, He understood how aggro worked, so proximity didn't matter so long as Takao was the one taking point. He watched as the brunette dispatched the small pack of rats, a smirk crossing his lips as he said with a shrug "Sometimes I really wish these things had AOE." He rolls his eyes before looking around for anything he could do to contribute. He noticed a rat that Takao had missed a straggler from the main pack. It charged towards the players with a squeak of vengeance!

As the rat jumped into the air to attack Kalesh took a step forward and swung downward with his claw, the bladed fingers piercing through the rat's body and making it shatter harmlessly in the air before getting too close to them. He shrugged his shoulders and said "That's the best I can do in a dungeon like this, I'll handle any stragglers or enemies hiding out on their own." He smiled to the Takao, willing to put in the effort as best as he was able.

  6. Kalesh nodded with a smile, admitting he had a bit of envy about the balanced nature of the spear compared to his claws. "Don't get me wrong, as far as looks and gameplay go, I love the weapon, but even I can see that I chose the least optimal weapon in the game... For regular builds. I have some plans, but they'll take preparation. And looots of SP." He shrugged, most people fell into a meta with their stats, but since his weapon had limited aspects in which it could be used, he figured he'd move a bit away from the normal set ups in favor of maximizing his weapon's advantages. "And I'd say that I agree that it looks cool, double bladed weapons are always awesome." He chuckled softly and held up his claw-tipped hands, each finger being sharp and the size of a dagger. "I prefer my claws be smaller, but this was -free-. My ideal is to have a pair of claws that are essentially gauntlets, but with clawed fingertips. Closer to my original pair, and probably with bleed instead of straight damage." He momentarily takes out his first gauntlets and holds them up so the jist could be seen of what he meant before returning them to his inventory. "As for the raid... I plan to take part. That's one reason I am hunting down these field bosses. They give a good boost after the first kill, and items besides." He grinned "The higher I get, the less likely I'll die. I just hope the armor I am commissioning gets finished before the fight itself though..."

    Name: Mercenary's Malice
    ID: 30033 CD: 12
    Profession: Blacksmith
    Item Rank: Perfect
    Effect: +3 Damage
    Item Type: Claws
Description: A pair of black gauntlets that cover the forearm and the entirety of the hand. Instead of blades extending out from the knuckles, the fingers of the gauntlet are sharpened at the tip, giving the wearer hands reminiscent of a demonic claw. The material going up the arms is leathery material the hugs close to the wearer's skin, and can easily go under the sleeves of clothing. The pointed metals tips of the fingers blend in perfectly to aid the illusion of them being the wearer's actual hand.

  7. Kalesh observed the other player while they equipped themselves. Kalesh himself was wearing a black jacket with red interior. He also had a mask accessory hidden under his jacket attached over his hip for the moment. While walking towards the flames the red haired player couldn't help but smile at the curiosity over his weapon. "Wild Dance? Well... It's kind of a pro-con situation." He chuckles softly as he clenches his hand into fists a few times "If you choose the gauntlet-style like I do, you can grab potions and stuff very easily. I'd imaging it'd be tougher with the kind you grab onto."  He spends a moment in thought to gather his summary. "Over all, it's a weapon meant for two things. Critical hits, and prolonged battle. See, the damage is abysmal, and the utility is non-existent. Stuns? The final one I got was two ranks ago. AOE? First rank only. Damage? The strongest sword art it has is ten damage... So it outdamages no weapon type, and those equally weak have utility abilities to compensate." He laughed softly up at the air and says "And the kicker? It's the weakest two handed weapon, hands down, so no shield for me to compensate!" He had covered the cons rather clearly, as there were many "As for the pros... Well... Suppose I land a critical hit. My ten-hit sword art morphs into a thirteen hit sword art. It only costs ten energy though. In a long fight against someone using a weapon that gobbles up stamina, I'd win by endurance... and critical hits if I am lucky. If." He shrugged his shoulders, palms upturned as he did so. "Bad news being that most fights don't last that long. So theoretically the weapon has some handy uses in prolonged combat. In practice? I've basically gimped myself." He takes a nice big exhale before turning his face to the red-armored player and smiles "Buuut it looks cool and nobody uses it, so that counts for something?" He had picked the weapon type on a whim, it was too late for him to reverse his choice so he had to simply live with his decisions.

  8. While waiting for Lawfer Kalesh equipped his claw weapons, this set he had obtained were too large for him to wear casually like  he did with his first set, so he had to take them off when handling things more complex than a bottle. Soon though the crimson haired man waved to the blonde player when he appeared in a flash of light, happy to see the other player had accepted the request for assistance. "Hey, Lawfer, thanks for coming" He says while tossing him a quick party invite, and then sharing the quest after that. "Yeah, Byakko is our target. I could probably taking him alone, but I'd rather minimize the odds of miraculous failures." He was confident n his luck, unfortunately that included his poor luck was well. He would take risks on a whim, but today his whim was not to take risks. "I'm ready to set out now, no point in waiting, the longer we take to reach Byakko the more fires he makes." With that settled Kalesh gestured to the other player to follow with a smile while heading towards the village's exit and towards the smoke on the horizon.

  9. Kalesh nodded in understanding, holding up a claw he said "Probably not, but variety would be nice." He says with a smile while Takao switched out his equipment. "Worst case scenario I sell it to a merchant for profit." he shrugged his shoulders weakly as he moved to follow Takao wherever he lead while walking beside him. Kalesh would just have to come to terms with the fact his weapon wasn't going to be the most damaging thing in the world no matter the situation. Its damage was limited compared to other weapons. It only matched medium damage weapons when it landed a critical hit, and high damage weapons totally outclassed Wild Dance. Kalesh didn't even have any AOE like the low-damaging weapons, and no stuns beyond rank 3. He momentarily wondered if he would have been better off investing in martial arts, which did equal damage outside of criticals before refocusing his attention.

Placing a hand on his own shoulder he begins to stretching his arm, getting ready for the dungeon to come. "I'll leave the searching to you. I don't have any points in search & detect." He shrugged his shoulder, mentally viewing the skill as a luxury skill, albeit a very convenient one. He wasn't quite ready to start investing in such an ability with what little SP he had after getting martial arts high enough for his claws to actually do something special when critical hitting. It was basically required learning if you used the weapon.

  10. Kalesh had been living on the sixth floor for a few days now. There was a specific event he was looking forward to, and wasn't going to give other players a chance of beating him to it. Now and then the forest would be set ablaze by a field boss, and Kalesh wanted the rewards and experience it had to offer him. Soon his desire was granted, as in the distance he began to see plumes of smoke rising above the trees. As if on que the amazons of the floor's capital seemed panicked ,one approaching Kalesh and saying "Please, adventurer, Byakko has returned to destroy our homes and livelihood, will you drive the beast off? We need to stay and defend the village!" A second later a quest screen appeared in front of the player's jade eyes. He quickly hit the accept button. "Oh, thank you! We have to prepare, good luck to you!" The NPC said before running off to do its task, whatever that was. Kalesh looked to the horizon in consideration, thinking that he could probably handle this fight on his own, given the floor, but decided he'd rather have a bit of company and it seemed that there weren't any eligible players present on the floor to accept the quest. And so, he decided to play name roulette. He opened up his personal notes and flicked his finger up and down with his eyes shut before poking his finger out and touching the name @Lawfer. Having chosen the name of a player he had seen present at the boss meeting he begins to type up a PM to the player requesting some assistance in taking out the flaming field boss of the sixth floor. With the message sent Kalesh moved to wait near the teleport plaza.

  11. Kalesh whislted as Zandra showed off her whip's strength, all but lynching the massive beast! The damage was on a whole other level compared to what he could do, even if his weapon's special ability triggered and his critical damage was raised. The most he could manage regularly was ten times damage, and thirteen when he criticaled. Zandra on the other hand had proved she could deal far more in his eyes. Still though, she was on his side. He raised his hand to Zandra, returning her thumbs up with a nod. "Any team would be great with someone like you on it!" He says with a smile to the other player, moving to her now that the immediate threat had passed. "Maybe it's not that bosses are easy, but you are so strong?"  He winked and shrugged his shoulders, doubtful that he was going to be getting on her level any time soon, even he invested into all kinds of mods! He did have plans stewing in his mind on how to become strong however. "Well, thanks in any case, that went a loooot faster than i was expecting." He grinned as he looked towards the sky. "Well, I vote we scavenge his cave for items. He won't respawn quickly!"

Kalesh goes through his inventory and removes his jacket, putting a lucky charm on his shirt. It was the same clover-leaf charm that he had loaned Zandra when catching Zita. He moved to one corner of the cave and said "His fur is probably worth something I'd think, maybe a fang? I dunno, bosses tend to be made of valuable stuff if you ask me!" He wasn't having any luck but he was trying.

  12. Kalesh smiled as Zandra praised him, a smile on his face as he blushed a little shyly "D'aww, thanks, but it's not as exciting as you think... except in short bursts. A guy could spend a long time just sitting there and waiting for a fish to bite. That's why I like it, I can just sit back and relax until something happens." He grins at the mention of a pot and says "Do you put on a witch hat and start cackling insanely while you mix? Y'gotta make your own fun if you ask me!" He grinned at the idea of Zandra in a cute little witch outfit and brewing up a potion before he shook his head in attention. She had found the King's Cave! "Oh!! It is! Nice catch!" He says approvingly as he turns to face the cave while taking a deep breath to calm himself. "Okay... Well, no point in delaying it. Let's take him down!" The players says with at least some level of confidence as he takes a step forward towards the entrance.

As he approached a feral roar was heard along with the thudding of heavy steps. From the depths of the cave emerged the king of monkeys himself with his golden fur. Seeing an intruder on its territory he monster lets out another louder roar which made the crimson haired player squint in discomfort from the noise. It was then the beast lunged, jumping towards Kalesh with an extended fist! The claw wielding player dashed to the side, watching as the beasts fist hits the ground next to him with a powerful impact. Before the beast could react Kalesh's claws glowed and in a moment's time ten successive stabs with his claws struck various points in the beast's arm, making it recoil and slam the ground angrily a few times as its HP plummeted. "You're up!" Said the player with green eyes, focusing on the beast while letting his fighting partner know that it was her chance to pitch in.

  13. Sando Satsu roared in outrage at the other player who had dared to attack him, raising his massive glaive and getting ready to spin with out held out to slice everybody present, Kalesh included! The red haired player didn't want to deal with the damage such an attack would deal so he ran forward after Takao without hesitation. As Takao recovered from the combo he had unleashed on the humanoid crocodile Kalesh closed the distance until he was in range. Getting into position his claws started to glow crimson as the sword art triggered! His actions were wild and furious looking, claws swinging in all directions to slice across the boss's virtual flesh, leaving trails of fishnet patterns across the monster's body before it finally let out a final roar of anger and shattered. Kalesh had seen a glance of the creature growing larger and more outraged but by that points its hitpoints had been extinguished.

Turning to Takao after letting out a relieved sigh from the closeness, he held up his thumb approvingly "Whew, he wasn't so tough!" He said with a slight smile. He was well aware that was likely only because Takao had been there to help him out. That was his second strongest sword art, but his damage would have really shone if he had been able to trigger a critical. They both got the message confirming the boss's death and the quest rewards. The previous talk of murders was out of his mind right now, he didn't want to think about that kind of stuff while in the wilderness where he could be jumped if he wasn't paying attention. "Well, thanks for the help. I'll compare the weapon he dropped to mine later. We still going to go for the dungeon?" He asked curiously while going through his rewards screen and noting that a material had dropped as well. Neat.

  14. When the meeting officially started he turned from watching the familiars to approach the main area of the meeting closer. He listened closely to every word, tapping his finger against his mug as he occasionally sipped. When his drink left his lips he said "Sounds tough. I am supposing you should give that tag to whoever has the best AOE to rush down the monsters of course... OR!" He grinned mischievously "You could give them to our best damagers in general and try to rush down the boss. I recommend the former, personally, but I am not in charge. I'll take myself out of the runnings right now, my weapons are for one-on-one fights." He did shrugs his shoulder softly and add "Gonna need some buffs to pierce that mitigation though on the boss in my case. If I land a critical though, ohhh boy."

He wasn't sure what else of relevance there was for him to bring up. The fight seemed like it was somewhat straight forward. "I think we should approach chefs and the like for energy food or something of the sort. We are talking three hundred enemies here. That's not going to be a jog in the park just by sheer quantity if you ask me" He was somewhat certain that previous bosses weren't quite on that level in power, and he wasn't sure how long their energy would hold up. It would be terrible to defeat the boss and be too exhausted to deal with the army. "Ah, and I may be a fisherman but due to the chance-based systems at work, I don't recommend hiring me to catch energy fish or the like. I'll do what's in my power, if you do, but can't promise any results that a chef certainly can." He hadn't participated in a boss fight before, as far as he knew this was just regular routine and he was stating the obvious, but he still felt like it should be stated in any case everything he thought.

  15. An idea I'd LIKE to bring forth is 'instanced' event bosses if numbers get too high. Like have two seperate threads for the same fight but with different people. That will canonically be considered as one fight with all players present. It's not perfect but that's just my idea. Doesn't limit numbers but decreases wait times. There's the problem of only a limited number of tanks etc. It's not perfect.

To prevent discrepancies you could keep boss rolls consistent between instances instead of rerolling in both, or just ignore this part.

The main problem is obviously the killing blow bonus item in such situations.

That said I'mma vote 'both'. The 48 hour rule to me was best used for small groups while 24 hour like on past floor bosses is best for big groups IMO.

  16. Kalesh had calmed himself down considerably during that little lull, slowing his breathing and his heart a bit before Niko returned and offered him the killing blow. "I won't disappoint." He says with a smile as he funnels all of his concentration onto his next punch as he steps forward to the rock. He knew right now it was a matter of accuracy, not strength. The rock was ready to crumble, he was just helping it on its way. He pushes his fist forward against the stone with barely enough strength to damage it. Cracks formed around Kalesh's fist and spread outward, encompassing the rock before suddenly the entire thing exploded into pixels! Throwing his fist into the air in victory he looks back at Niko with a grin before moving to the player and offering his first to the other player for a bro-fist. "Well, we did it, congrats on your new skill!" He said while totally assured it would count for the other player.

Kalesh was seething for a minute, bringing his hands together and taking a deeeeeep breath as he tried to calm himself down, knowing better than to get angry over small stuff like this but it was so tempting some of the time to just bash something over and over until either he broke it it did. "I... need a second, would you mind going in for another punch?" Kalesh says a little meekly, not wanting to get too caught up in his emotions at random over a simple trip. He wasn't evenly badly damaged by the fall to begin with, it was more like he had gotten upset at circumstance and took it out on the rock!

He started to move forward, this time kicking the pebble that tripped him away and then slamming his fist against the stone harshly, almost threatening to damage himself with the force of the impact! Intentional or not he had knocked the rock's health back into the five times tables, leaving it with only one fifth of its original HP. It was almost ready to break!

  19. Kalesh nodded in agreement with that statement "True. Still frustrates my brain when I end up using points I don't... well, use." He shrugs his shoulders and listens to Takao's next words with a sigh "Yeah, I know them both fairly well. Well, before I disappeared that is... I'm... Actually surprised Teayre of all people would go off the rails like that, she was a nice." One hand moved under his jacket to his hip where an accessory was hidden under his jacket, touching the mask softly. "I'll... keep a look out in the future." He says while wondering how she'd react to him. He didn't know the specifics or even all that much about Ebony and Manta if he were to be entirely honest, so it was a bit tough for him to judge objectively. "Well, I guess I will be the first again... I almost joined the front lines earlier, before I... Well, stopped seeing the light of day for a while." he smiles weakly. "Actually kinda comforting that my seat hasn't been taken."

When the words Takao said about being ready clicked in his mind he nodded softly to the more experienced player after shaking distracting thoughts from his mind. "Yeah, I am ready. At least, as ready as i think I can get." He took a deep breath as the arena drew closer and closer by the step until they were almost upon it. The moment both their feet hit the arena's floor a quest pop-up appeared in front of their faces. Kalesh accepted it right away and looked to Takao a moment while lowering his own body and pointing a clawed hand forward in wait. Once Takao accepted as well the crocodile-like warrior surged out from the sand, propelled by some unknown force to land on the opposite end of the arena. It let out a mighty roar towards the two players to show its outrage that anyone dared to challenge it. He figured the overgrown lizard viewed itself some kind of champion.

  20. Nodding to Niko as he passed Kalesh readied his fist for another strike, lifting his fist, only for his foot to catch on a pebble! It was as if the rocks children had come to its aid during its time of need! Next thing Kalesh knew his face had made impact with the larger stone, making Kalesh scrabble to get back and place his hands over his face "Ow ow ow ow!" He says in instinct while stepping backwards away from the rock to recover mentally from what had just happened to him.

  21. He nodded in response to the simple, not particularly expecting more but was happy to hear it none-the-less. "I see. Well, then I guess now you are getting your chance, hurrah for mutual gains!" He says with a slight smile on his face as he started to lead the way towards the boss. His navigation strategy wasn't overly complex. The creature used lightning, and likely needed to get its energy from somewhere while rampaging. He figured if he followed the lightning strikes he'd eventually approach the creature itself. "No offense taken. I'm not exactly wearing a set of plate!" The crimson haired man chuckled softly as he brushes some water from his long black jacket. "And a sub-dungeon, hm? If we can find one that wouldn't do me any bad I suppose. Sure, I'm in!" he says confidently despite his level and equipment. Nothing risked nothing gained as some circles would like to say.

Leading the way out of the town and into the wilderness which was wetter than usual, Kalesh was rather swiftly made aware of the muddy ground as his foot sank into the ground and required a little force to be pulled free with each step. He glanced back to Mack and said "Hope that armor isn't too heavy" He winked, meaning it more in jest than actual worry. He doubted that mud of all things was going to be a problem for the vice commander.

  22. Kalesh could see Niko was getting frustrated, and when the player placed their hopes on Kalesh by way of crossed fingers, Kalesh was filled with determination not to let him down! Kalesh stepped forward and with a mighty punch quite literally shook the rock with the impact! Kalesh watched as the hitpoints dropped more than they had until that point, pushing the stone under the halfway point! "Whew! A frew more of those and we'll actually end up needing one punch less." He says with a chuckle while backing up and taking out a water skin to sip from, wanting to keep from getting exhausted from the work out.
