  1. Kalesh had been exploring the first floor's merchant district in search of a tailor to make him some armor. His usual stop was on vacation after making him the coat for the matching piece of armor he needed. He stopped himself in front a somewhat un-dramatic shop and shrugged his shoulders softly "That'll do." He says as he puts on a smile and opens the door to the shop to enter. His eyes glanced around his surroundings as he approached the front desk. His eyes did glance across the items he had in stock but none quite filled the bill for what he was going to be needing for his build. "Hello, could I get some tier two armor made?" He says while dropping a pile of col coins and leathers onto the counter from a recent hunting trip. "I need a black breastplate with as much mitigation as possible, and recovery in any slots that doesn't take up." He gestures to his black jacket with a red interior. "It's gotta fit under this, it doesn't need to be bulky, just tough." Content with his explanation he waited for the tailor's response.

  2. Kalesh watched as she ordered around her familiar, feeling a slight tinge of envy watching her command it and it complained about its order, making a chuckle pass his lips as he watched their hijinks. It amused him if nothing else to watch them goof around together. His eyes turned towards the distance where Jaken and Opal had suggested they go. Kalesh wasn't about to complain! He gave a nod in response and said "Sounds good to me. Upstream it is!" He says while turning his attention to the source of the flowing blood-like substance.

Taking a step forward he finds his eyes glancing back at Opal with curiosity "So, a self-proclaimed PK doesn't want to soak in blood? How very interesting!" He says with a lighthearted humor to his words. "Last I checked, there weren't any STDs in this game... Well, the life-long ones, debuffs are always an option." He looked to the water with a slight amount of dubiousness to if it would or wouldn't afflict them with a horrible malady. "Oh god, flashbacks, the Corrupted Blood Incident of olde! We don't need a repeat of that... It'd be the death of all newbies period." He took a step away from the stream all at once while continuing his path forward.

As he too felt his energy returning in bulk he stretched his neck and shoulders out with a few cracks being heard before he looked to Opal with curiosity in his eyes "Mm. That's right, I never asked in detail. How'd you meet Jaken? I know he was the king of imps and y'saved him, but why'd he agree to join you and stuff?" A king without a throne didn't exactly have anywhere to go, but most kings don't do well with servitude in his mind.

  3. Kalesh raised a brow at the mention of cooked crab, looking at Mack  He narrowed his eyes somewhat as a rare thing burned inside Kalesh. Competitive spirit. "Eh, eh, eh! If you want cooked fish, why aren't you looking for a fisherman?!" He had a grin on his face, obviously not insulted in the slightest, just playing around. He noticed some crabs angrily clacking about and approaching him "I catch my own food thank ya very much!" He tsked softly and said "I caught the sand shark on floor five for laughs!" He says proudly while idly skipping around the crabs, dodging the angry mud-soaked crustaceans who were conflicted on who they should be chasing, the flighty red-head or the sturdy red-head.

  4. ((OOC: No complaints here! It's better than doin' nothin'!... In light of my failure however, I'll just spawn these crabs for you.))

Kalesh watched as Mack dealt with the crab creatures, a grin crossing his lips as he shrugs his shoulders "Looks like the scavengers are coming out for our scraps!" Realistically he knew this to be false, there was no corpse, but that didn't mean it was impossible they had been programmed to come out for that purpose. He noticed a small group of yet more crabs burrowing their way out from beneath his feet! Kalesh gasped and jumped to the side, as he evaded he swiped with his claws but to no avail, the panicked player's green eyes darting around a bit in surprise as the four crabs surfaced and clacked their claws angrily in warning as if acting territorial.

  5. Crossing the threshold into the safe zone entirely he smiled and hunched over a bit to catch his breath before straightening out again. He had finished his mission, gotten a semi-decent number of materials, and didn't die in the process. All in all, he had gotten what he wanted done today. Maybe tomorrow he would go fishing, but today he had dealt with the wilderness and wildlife enough for one day. His eyes scanned the capital settlement for a place he could sleep. He sighed and shrugged his shoulders as he stepped through the streets while reminding himself he wasn't picky, a tent would serve him well if need be so long as he didn't have any glaring lights or a second tent three feet from him. That was of course the worst case scenario for if he didn't find an inn. He eventually did find a large building selling rooms to rest in to his pleasure, coins exchanging hands before the player's green eyes fell into a pillow as they shut for several hours of relaxation and daydreaming.

  6. Kalesh smiled as he saw the capital in the distance, letting out a sigh of relief as he found his minor journey coming to its end at last. He took a nice deep breath through his nose and jogged the rest of the way there, aimed for the settlement's entrance. At this point he figured himself home free. It wasn't often in MMOs that a monster would be standing between the city and its entrance, so he was happy to close the distance quickly before any monsters outside that range got any ideas and decided to give chase after the crimson haired player.

  7. @Baldur I think I should clarify that completing parole and/or going from orange to green was not something I suggested in any way, but rather the equivalent of making your prisoners work, like how in real life they might man the cafeterias or otherwise perform labor, and then in SAO escape.

And I am not so much missing it so much as being under the opinion that I don't see the issue with that. Quests are essentially the same thing to begin with but short-term. Being in that situation is only as monotonous as those roleplaying make it, a creative mind makes the restrictions a secondary concern, and an escape system of some sort would be interesting in my opinion.

And yeah, I do agree it's not feasible since people enjoy freedom, that's just natural. Fun is a matter of perspective and opinion though.

  8. With his eyes turning downwards to watch the trail in his laziness he noticed something shimmer. Moving to it and kneeling down he started to dig into the ground a bit, pulling up what looked like a rock with a piece of ore in it. Crush the rock, Kalesh smiled as the rubble fell away from the rest of the stone to reveal a decent sized piece of ore. "Sweeeeet." He says softly as he inventories it and stops kneeling. He had a semi-decent supply of items in the works, rather pleased with the short farming run's progress.

Well, canonically, I believe it works this way:

    1) If you attack a green player, your cursor turns orange for a short time
    2) If you kill a green player, your cursor turns orange permanently.

We have the redemption quest as a 1 time safety net to come back into the fold.

With a prison mechanic, it's basically forcing someone to say "hey, you gotta do this jail break thread before you can create any new RP threads" which I think people wouldn't like, but it could work as an alternative to killing another player. Basically if you have this item equipped, and you get the killing blow on another player, you can say "I use a Prison Crystal on them." They don't die, they go to the prison, where they can once and only once accept this annoying quest.

Not true. Canonically theft, assault, and I think trying to forcefully move NPCs to different locations all grant you an orange cursor.
Secondly killing is not the only way to become red, you can never kill anybody and still become a 'red'. After the fourth 'sin' let's call it where your crystal goes from green to orange, you are then orange until you do a quest. If you do the quest and sin AGAIN then you are permanently orange. The death of a player is just a shortcut to that final stage.

And as far as RP goes, while it does seem odd to willingly go to jail for any reason, it's not like the player is required to stay in prison. Parole is a thing, and a significantly more powerful player could ask a prisoner to 'work off their crimes' essentially. Gathering items for a guild for example, working as a smith, not being allowed to leave a guild-guarded safe zone without an escort. You can manually empty a player's inventory of dangerous items and teleport crystals by moving their hand like with sleeping-death-duels. For stronger players however it would be a bit harder, and martial art users harder still.

So while the act of entering jail would be a bit odd, the road to escaping despite obstacles could make for an interesting scenario if you ask me.

  10. Kalesh felt tired in the lazy sort of way more than anything. There were plenty of comfy looking trees to nap in but he shook his head dismissively of the idea. Since this was one of the higher floors there would probably be tough players prowling about, and he didn't want to be robbed blind in his sleep. With a defeatist sigh he turns his attention back to walking to town again and seeing if he could find himself a nice place to rest and relax. Every floor did have somewhere, she wasn't too concerned over that, just surviving the trip back without issue. He lets out a soft yawn with his hand covering his mouth as he strolls along.

    1. Fully Non-MIT-able would be OP. I propose "Fully non-MIT if attacking from Stealth, half-mit otherwise."

    2. Lucky Hit: Only usable on a BD of 9-10 and LD 17+, but usable on every such roll against Mobs and up to twice per fight on players. You'd need to be lucky to get that roll.

    3. I've already suggested a Mod for daggers that would up their attack speed. I propose 4 attacks for every 3 from another one handed weapon (excluding daggers) and 3 attacks for every 2 from a two-handed weapon. The extra attacks would be handled as bonus chances to attack every 4th or 3rd turn, respectively, and each attack would require its own BD.

Personally, I'm in favor of doing away with the Energy System completely and going to # of Post based Cool Down Timers across the board. But, that's me and it would require a complete overhaul of the system to change it.

Looking at your closing point I would be entirely in agreement with that. Not to distract from the  conversation, but the energy system just doesn't particularly work with a lot of other things we have going. Like the health pools being the size that they are. In most scenarios including PvP a battle ends in one, maybe two turns if someone has charge or the like. Wild Claw is kinda gimped by the energy system, so I won't pretend I am not slightly biased. It's the weakest weapon type with the least utility bar none, martial arts included. The only advantage it has is its energy costs when it manages a critical hit, which isn't even an inherent trait but one that is unlocked, and as I just mentioned doesn't hold much impact compared to just using a greatsword/axe instead. If battles could be long and drawn out, then the energy system would be a-ok though.

    BACK ON TOPIC THO:

    1. That could be interesting, but it seems pretty OP still unless players have to respect the LD during their combat roll to attack. Some monsters should have LD boosts as well just for these situations. Once you pass LD 21+ to detect, no natural LD rolls will ever find the stealth user, which seems fair since you are a grandmaster.

    2. That could be cool, but would it be a natural LD roll or one with Search & Detect included? I'd be cool with that, since dagger users/rogues/bandits tend to be somewhat luck-stat based for treasure hunting and the like in games I've played.

    3. A turn-based speed suggestion sounds awesome to me, and while it would require a rehaul I think that would be just fine by me. As earlier mentioned the energy system placed next to the HP and mitigation most player/monsters have is a little redundant.

  12. While he did feel a slight pang of regret for the death of the Koala, they weren't in any danger of going extinct here as he had once before thought to himself. Killing an army of small adorable puppies would probably be gruesome on the mind but morally speaking it wouldn't affect anything as they'd just pop back out good as new a few hours later. At the same time however he didn't want to kill any puppies... Lost in thought with his hand cupping his chin he hears a sickening crunch looks under his foot to see a smooshed spider, making him squint in disgust before it shattered apart. "Ugh... Grooooooss!" He wasn't so much grossed out by the spider so much as the feeling and... texture(?) of it crushing under his foot before it died.

  13. Having begun the walk properly towards the village he found himself becoming more lax in his alertness. He had, in his mind, proven that the monsters of this floor weren't a major obstacle. Obstacles, yes, but ones he could stop over with very little effort on his part. His eyes did turn upwards when he saw something that stood out from the greenery around him. It was gray and furry. A drop-bear! Kalesh chuckled softly at the thinly veiled trap by the developers. He raises his clawed hand over his head and keeps walking. Sure enough, Kalesh felt a weight against his hand and heard the shattering of pixels as he walked along. His eyes widened when the rewards menu held two materials as well as col! He wasn't sure quite how to take it but he took ti well regardless!

  14. Kalesh snickered softly as he moved from her, rolling his eyes a bit as he said "Sorry~ I couldn't resist. it was too good an opportunity." He noted that he had no stab wounds from his actions, so that was a good sign in his opinion. Knowing Opal was always the tease he didn't mind turning it back on her just a teeny tiny bit. It was fun if nothing else, so he didn't feel regret  "And hey, I put my hands on everybody." He clinks the metal claw tips of his fingers together, hoping the joke registered as him not just randomly groping people and instead on his weapon.

With his fun had though he follows her towards the river she had described, looking down at the crimson with a raised brow. He wasn't going to go into the problems of coagulation and reminded him it was a game. And thus, he triggered his suspension of disbelief. He did however look upstream with a curious almost child-like look of wonder in his eyes "Think if we go far enough up stream, we'll see a dead giant with a huuuuge sword through his chest from a bygone era?" His inner nerd peaked out as he squinted his eyes towards the consuming darkness.

After a few moments he took a deep breath and decided he should take things a bit more seriously. These monsters were a threat to him. Maybe not to Opal, but to him certainly. "Alright, no AOE so I dunno how much help I'll be..." He gives her a thumbs up "But I know you got this, I'll do what I can to... ease things along if possible." He was sure that if he killed three or four along the way it would all even out fine. He started to crack his knuckles and stretch out all his arm joints as he got ready for the battle to come.

  15. Kalesh raised a brow at the name-calling, a smirk soon crossing his lips as he confirms to himself that there really is only one sword art he can use in response to that. "Dangit, now I have to do this!" He says with rather little spite. He watched as Mack assaulted the massive lightning beast with brutal force, watching as the monster's HP dropped well below the yellow. He took a breath when it was his turn and ran forward, closing the distance and stopping on the monster's flank. Triggering a very particular sword art Kalesh starts to dance, spiing gracefully and leaving glowing slash trails through the air and across the monster in the most dancelike movements his weapons were capable of. When his dance reached it's end the monster was dead, it's HP dropping into the red and out of existance! The creature let out one final roar before shattering apart and giving Kalesh a minor reward for its defeat, besides the obvious experience and consumable rewards! "Whoo!" Kalesh says proudly of his defeat of the monster. It was a fine day when he got to both do things for the benefit of fun as well as succeed in getting victory.

  16. Kalesh blinked as he watched Khrysaor be the only one to hit the bats. He noticed the bleed effect from Khrysaor finishing them off. The two bats shattered apart and Kalesh stood, clapping his hands off as if he had finished a hard day's work, ignoring the holes in his hands as they'd heal or preferably be healed soon he hoped. "Alright! The monsters are down, let's find that kid!" He winks, this being something they could all do, especially with the threats removed. Kalesh turned his ear slightly upwards while trying to hear for any echoing cries from the child, his eyes shutting a bit to try and focus his senses if possible.

  17. Saluting the deceased crab in respect for his sacrifice to the worthy goal that was fishing, Kalesh turned on his heel and started the walk back towards the main settlement. He wasn't going to try and cross the water, figuring that by the time he got back he would have had enough materials to keep him satisfied for a little while at the least. The all-consuming abyss of fishing was a cruel mistress indeed, but one he had to brave so that no other would need to. He would become the best fisherman this game had ever seen, only so that nobody would ever need to take his place in the vicious and cruel fate he had decided for himself.

    [ID# 61515][LD: 8+2=10]

  18. Kalesh enjoyed the sandy and heated floor unlike some people. Desert and Arabian and so forth settings were a favorite, so at least once a week he made it his mission to spend a day against the elements this floor had to offer him. The main disadvantage to this floor however was his profession. He was a fisherman by trade, but there weren't exactly a lot of fish for him to catch. While getting ready to turn in for the night he heard a player asking for assistance.

He raised a brow as he heard the name of a familiar quest. He hummed softly to himself in thought, remembering the shark that swam through the sand. It sounded fun, and excited his fisherman instincts besides. He had caught the fish before! "Heeey~" He says happily while approaching the other player. "I'm Kalesh, and I think I could help you out with that quest." He chuckled softly and went through his menus, taking out a fishing rod "I'm one of the rare fishermen in this world, if you need help killing a fish, I'm your man." He says confidently before returning the item to his inventory.

He was always happy to help out other players, not only did it give him a sense of pride in making others stronger, but it also gave him a chance to get a little stronger as well. There weren't really any cons in him going on a leisurely quest with another player. It also broke the monotony of grinding and gave him a chance to branch out his social circle. He was a passionate fan of MMO games, he knew better than most that a weaker player is just a powerful player who needs some time to get stronger. "Send me a party invite and the two of us can handle him no problem."

  19. Taking a deep breath after that initial shock Kalesh stands back up onto his feet and looks at how deep into the virtual tree the beetle had dug in. After examining the hole Kalesh was infinitely happier that the creature hadn't been successful in turning him into a shiskebab. With a hearfelt sigh of relief the red maned man headed deeper stilll.. to find the brush opening up into a beach! It seemed  he had reached the end of this island, or at least one of its edges. Stepping out into the sand he looked around while listening to the crash of the waves. The scent of salt filled the air as his eyes scanned the horizons. He heard a slight clacking and looked to his right to see an irate crab that came up to his hip side-walking towards him. He found himself grinning at the angry display and bubbling mouth of the creature. "Okay, now that is just adorable." He says to himself while approaching. "Pity crab meat is so good." He says in part-apology to the creature as he raised his hand. "I promise, your sacrifice shall not be in vain." He says with an edge of dramatacism before bringing it down upon the creature's armored shell. Moments later an explosion was heard and an inventory joined the others in his inventory..

  20. Kalesh heard a faint buzzing in the air, a brow being raised for a moment until a giant beetle came buzzing through! Kalesh gasped and actually lost his footing, collapsing back onto his butt as the beetle charged with it's massive horn! Thanks to Kalesh's fall however, the bug impales itself into the tree that was directly behind Kalesh at the time. Seeing an opportunity for a cheapshot, Kalesh stabs upward with a clawed hand and pierces the massive bug! With it shattering apart he smiled happily as he got the most fitting piece of bait to date, an actual bug! Bugs came second place to actual fish when it came to bait in his mind!

  21. With another material gained and another monster dead Kalesh contiues yet further along on his quest to just generally ruin the local ecosystem. Well, not that it wouldn't just respawn and make all his work null and void within a day. That was one thing you kinda just had to accept as a player of MMO. You can never go full-genocide. A part of him didn't like that. It would be nice to make the goblins totally extinct one and a while, even if he understood it would totally screw anybody who joins a game late for some reason. He was momentarily lost in thought about potentially driving a virtual race to extinction. And then it went to the darker parts which made him snicker at the things possible with NPCs if someone doesn't mind being orange for a while.

  22. The search for tackle continued once more since his energy felt like it had fully recovered, leaving him with a wide awake look in his eyes as they scanned the horizons. Stepping forward to turn deeper and deeper into the wild and away from the safe zone Kalesh encountered what appeared to be a wolf-like monster. Shrugging his shoulders Kalesh gents into a fighting stance while taking a deep breath. He waited for the canine to lunge, inevitably going for his throat! Prepared for this Kalesh strafed and grabbed the dog around the neck, getting it into a choke hold of sorts as he begins stabbing with his spare arm, clawing at the snarling beast in his arms until his arms felt emptiness from the monster's destruction.

Once adequately presentable Kalesh figured he should continue his search for materials and profit. He would probably hunt bigger game when he was a bit tougher, the Col returns would be amazing if his current money situation was anything to go off of. He wasn't about to buy a house, but he wasn't going to fall into poverty either if these col drops grew as his level grew with him!
