  1. Violet smiled once Vandrin noticed the connection between the name. He was the first person she had told about how she had found her companion. Hopefully she would accept him quickly. However, after she brought up the topic of destiny, she saw Vandrin's mood sour. His past must still be something he needs to accept, she thought to herself, knowing the familiar pain. Without thinking, she reached out and held his free hand, a look of concern and understanding in her eyes. She used her thumb to rub the side of his hand gently, slowly. "It's going to be okay," she said. Those were the words she had wanted to hear during that time years ago, but no one had said them then.

    Once the conversation had jumped back to a more positive tone, she smiled with Vandrin, glad that he didn't dwell on the past for too long. She knew the pain that could come from living in the past. "So, what's the next quest you had in mind?" she asked, trying to keep the conversation focused on the present for now. She could tell that Vandrin didn't wish to touch on what had happened before the game any more than he had to. Her hand still rested on his.

  2. The tiger soon became focused on the black leopard in front of it, not realizing that Violet had slowly crept up behind him, poised to attack. Dahlia dashed into the jungle, hiding in the bushes, as soon as Violet gave the whistle. The tiger looked back one final time, but it was too late. Violet's blade cut swiftly into the hide of the beast multiple time, dropping its health points to 0. Once the points reached 0, the tiger disintegrated into minute pixels that blew away in the air.

    A pile of loot appeared where the tiger had been. "Let's see what we have here," Violet said as she searched through the pile. Dahlia came up behind the woman and joined her, curious what all the items on the ground were. It seemed that Violet had managed to find not one, but three perfect quality items. "I'm going to save these to identify in my shop," she explained to Dahlia. The counter on the quest didn't raise at all as Violet put the items into a more private section of her inventory.

  3. Dahlia's hair along her scruff and back rose as she lowered herself to the ground and growled. The tiger actually took a step or so back, seeming to be a little bit wary of the strange feline.

    He must have run into other leopards in the forest before, but this one didn't smell familiar. It smelled like the human players -- not wild like him. This one was also a different color. It was all black rather than having the usual spots like a normal leopard. The tiger snarled in disgust. It wasn't like the others, and in the jungle that only meant weakness to the wild animals. That's why they attacked the humans viciously: they were different and weren't meant to be here.

    Striding forward, the tiger charged at Dahlia who quickly dashed out of the way. She was much quicker than her human companion (as the lion soon found out after a few more attempts).

  4. Before she could get another chance to land a hit, the tiger moved forward faster than Violet could scoot across the ground to stay under him. Then the beast turned around while Violet was still vulnerable on the ground, slicing across her abdomen with its sharp claws. Violet winced and rolled away from the claws, picking herself back up a few feet away from the beast. She looked down. Her abdomen had deep lacerations, and she knew that if this had happened in the real world she would be dead.

    Instead of the normal scared reaction that most people have to a potentially deadly experience, she just looked up at the tiger and smiled. This game makes me nearly invincible if I choose the right enemies, she thought to herself. Meanwhile, Dahlia had jumped in front of her companion to try and protect her from further damage. Violet smiled at the kind gesture.

  5. However, as the dance continued, Violet realized that she was using up too much of her energy too quickly. Waiting for the perfect moment, she struck out at the tiger's chest and quickly sliced in and out a total of four times before ducking under a paw with razor sharp claws. Narrowly dodging the attack, Violet rolled out of the tiger's range and stood back up, her blade readied once more.

    Alright, I need to finish this quickly. No need to waste all my energy on just one enemy, she told herself. Taking a deep breath, she focused on the enemy in front of her and charged forward with all her strength. As she charged, the tiger attempted to dash forward as well and bat at her with a heavy, clawed paw. She slid under the paw and underneath the tiger, driving her blade up into its stomach. Luckily, the tiger wasn't able to reach her as she completed her sword art attack.

    But now there was another problem: she was kind of stuck under the beast. If she tried to roll out from under it, the thing would easily grab her with its claws.

  6. Dahlia made the first move, dodging in quickly and becoming a shadow. While she distracted the tiger, Violet came in with her sword art once more and struck at the tiger in its left size once more. The tiger roared, lashing out at Dahlia in retaliation, but the black leopard was much quicker than the heavier and bulkier tiger. In this case, it was better to be small and nimble.

    Violet watched closely to make sure that her companion wasn't hit. The last thing she wanted was for Dahlia to be injured in any way. Violet whistled, signaling Dahlia to stay. "Good girl," she said as the black leopard took her place a little to the side and behind Violet. The tiger, sensing that its health was low, was now enraged and even more dangerous. Violet smiled and danced her way around the tiger's attacks. Her movements were so graceful and quick that it looked like a dance of death rather than a fight.

  7. Dahlia tensed as she saw the tiger viciously rip into the girls armor with its claws, ripping through the leather and lashing her deeply across the chest. Instead of reacting with fear or a pained expression, Violet's grin only grew wider. "Ah, yes. Now it's a real fight," she said as she dashed to the side, picking up her blade from the ground. "Now it's my turn," she growled as she activated her sword art once more. Dahlia relaxed once more as she saw her companion strike out at the tiger again, lashing him 4 times across the back.

    Violet whistled after she had jumped back to dodge another attack by the tiger. It was the signal that Dahlia had been waiting for. In a blur of movement, Dahlia was standing right next to Violet, the pair fighting side by side. Violet smiled. Now that she had knocked the tiger to below half health, it was time for the both of them to have some fun.

  8. Again, Violet dashed in, her sword art activated and her blade glowing a fiery orange. Now she attacked the right side of the beast. Again, she landed a critical hit, and the wounds tore open from her bleed enchantment. Violet giggled with murderous glee as she dodged a weakened attack from the tiger. "Ah, someone's too weak. Hm, but this is too easy." She frowned. "Give me a real fight," she said, her face serious. She dropped her knife and held her arms out, exposing her body. A grin came back to her lips. "Here's a free shot. Make it count."

    From the bushes, Dahlia watched anxiously. What was the murderous girl doing now?

    The tiger paced around in front of the woman. It was hesitant. The wounds that the woman had inflicted hurt with each step of its body, the muscles shaking underneath its coat. After a few more moments of pacing and thinking, it charged.

  9. Once she was prepared, Violet leaped out of the bushes she had been hiding behind and leaped onto the tiger, stabbing into it four times before jumping back. The tiger had been unaware of Violet's movements until she had landed on it. Luckily for Violet, the tiger had been too surprised and thrown off its guard to attack right away.

    Violet smiled, a murderous look in her eyes. Ah, there it was. The joy of the hunt and killing. Back once again.

    The tiger got up and roared angrily, baring its inches long fangs and digging its claws into the dirt. The bleed effect of the weapon Violet held activated, reopening the wounds along the tiger's left side. This made the beast even angrier, causing it to roar a second time, this time louder. Violet laughed to herself. "Who's the king of the jungle now?" she asked teasingly.

    Dahlia remained hidden behind the bushes for now.

  10. She was surprised when he asked her if she had a name preference. One of her eyebrows raised slightly as she looked over at Abel with a curious look. In all honesty, she hadn't met someone with proper manners in the game in quite a while. It was... odd, to say the least. Perhaps odd in a good way?

    "Just Violet is alright," she responded with a dismissive wave of her hand. "I've only been called by code names before anyways. And those were used when I was out on a hit." She mentioned her past career casually.

    After they reached the end of the narrow street, Violet stopped in front of a small shop. It was made out of nice wood, with a nice oak door open to let a breeze into the shop. She motioned for Abel to go inside. "I'll wait out here. Too cramped in there for my liking," she said before taking up post on the wooden side of the building.

    @Abel

  11. After hearing Tanoshi's reasoning, Violet frowned. A story she had heard too often it seemed. Then she got a good look at Tanoshi. He seemed younger -- perhaps high school age? She sighed and looked over at him. "I lost someone very important to me in the real world. I lived a life where death was around the corner. I will not say that I didn't feel fear myself for a little while after I learned after I was trapped her. I guess what affected me the most was the fact that my freedom was taken away." She paused to think, a finger on her cheek thoughtfully. "I've seen men murdered in front of my eyes. Murdered men as well. But I always had at least a little freedom when I was killing them. But now there's someone over me. Someone that wants me to die, and I have little control over it."

    She summoned her dagger into her hand and looked at the blade. "Even this can't kill without permission from another player." She sighed heavily once more. "I think what I feel is not fear. It is... hm... sadness. Like a caged bird." She went quiet for a little while, deep in thought. She had rarely given words to these feelings before. They were finally beginning to set in now that they were acknowledged. It felt like a new weight had been added to her shoulders.

    @Tanoshi

  12. Violet gave a slight smile as Tanoshi wiped the boar out of the game. Satisfied that the man would be able to handle himself for the time being, she walked along the line of trees surrounding the field, looking for materials. After a few minutes of searching, she found a bit of spider web that could be used in potion making or in some other type of crafting. She put the item into her inventory and then looked back over at Tanoshi.

    "So, why are you still level one?" she asked, blatant and curious. "Too scared to venture out like the others?" She had known the feeling for just a little while after the game had announced that they were all trapped and that if they died in the game, they died in real life. But after a few hours, the fear fell away, replaced by a want to escape. She had been faced with the harsh reality of death nearly every day in the real world. It hadn't bothered her much besides the day that this sick game all started.

    1 T1 material found

  13. After she had spoken the name of the third floor's town, Violet and Dahlia were immediately whisked to their destination. Making haste, Violet headed straight for the jungle surrounding the area to search for materials, not staying to check out any of the shops. She knew that most of the player ran shops were on the first or higher floors anyways.

    After exiting the safe zone, Violet took a deep breath of fresh air and smiled. This was her element. Danger and excitement. She laughed and looked down at Dahlia, who was equally as excited. Together, the pair raced off into the jungle, looking for another enemy to encounter and loot. After a few minutes of looking, Violet snuck up on a sleeping tiger. It seemed to be a large male. A perfect target. Not too easy, yet still in her level range. Violet motioned for Dahlia to stay back while she charged in.

  14. Violet's eyes lit up and her smile grew as soon as Vandrin asked about her familiar. "Her name's Dahlia, and she's a midnight black leopard! I found her on the third floor in the jungle. The gypsy said we were destined to help each other out." She smiled and giggled. "That is, if you believe in such a thing as destiny. Do you?" she asked, her head tilted to the side.

    Then he teased her about their first meeting. She blushed, a little ashamed at the way she had acted towards him at first. Brash and irrational. She was glad that he had given her a second chance. The time she spent with him was her favorite part of life in this game world -- even though they had only known each other for a short while. She teased back. "But I'm still the one who did the most damage." She stuck her tongue out and laughed. "Though in all seriousness, just let me know what mission you want to do and when, and I'll lend you a hand." She moved closer across the table and smiled, "It'll also give us a bit more time to spend together, too." She winked and moved back to her original position.

    @Vandrin

  15. Violet stood casually with her back against a tree as she waited to see what Tanoshi would do. Her eyes watched the man closely as he charged towards the boar, activating a sword art. Good form, she thought to herself, smiling, for a rich boy. However, she saw him falter with his movements for just a movement. In this game, just one falter like that could cost a player their life -- especially at this level. She frowned. At least he had managed to hit the beast, but it had also hit him back.

    The woman glanced up at Tanoshi's health bar. She bit her lip, the only sign of her own nervousness. Only 20 health... She forgot how squishy level 1 players were. It seemed like forever since she had progressed through the levels, though in reality it had only been nearly a year.

    Dahlia paced restlessly next to Violet's side, grabbing the woman's attention for the next moment. Violet smiled and whistled the signal, allowing Dahlia to run off and hunt to her heart's content for the time being. She knew Violet would whistle to let her know when they were leaving.

    Directing her attention back to the level 1 player in front of her, Violet barked, "Pay attention! One false move could mean death."

    @Tanoshi

  16. Violet glanced back and smiled. "Don't worry, rich boy. I can't kill you unless you accept a duel." She faced back forward and took in the scenery around her, her feet moving her along a memorized, invisible path. "I'm taking you to a patch for beginners. It'll be perfect for you to test out your skills and for me to see what you can do." Dahlia roared playfully behind her, and Violet giggled. "Dahlia also needs to get out and hunt. It would be tragic for me to keep her inside all day. Meanwhile, I can gather materials or something or another." She shrugged, not caring about what she would do in the meantime. Perhaps she could catch a nap under the nice sun. The rays were nice and gentle today.

    After a few more minutes of watching, the trio reached a small field surrounded by tall oak trees. In the middle of the field stood a small little boar pup. A measly and harmless thing -- even for a beginner. She turned to look at Tanoshi and grinned. Now came the fun part. "Now show me what you can do."

    @Tanoshi

  17. Violet laughed. "That's the point. I need you stronger so that you can actually put up a fight." She turned and led the way towards the northern path leading out of the Town of Beginnings and into the woods and plains that lay across the first floor. She didn't turn to check and see if Tanoshi was following. She didn't much care if he didn't. It would be his loss.

    However, as the pair (Violet and Dahlia) left, Dahlia looked behind and roared back to Tanoshi. It was a call for him to follow. She glanced back at Violet before coming back to the man and gently taking his hand in her jaws, making sure not to pierce his skin. Without the man noticing, Violet glanced back and a small smile crossed her lips. My better half, she thought to herself. She is soft where I am firm and understanding where I am stubborn.

    @Tanoshi

  18. "If this were real life, it would be harder to kill me, ya know? I have bodyguards by my side all the time."

    To this statement, Violet laughed, nearly doubling over. "My, you are the innocent one, aren't you?" She stood back up, a sinister grin across her lips. "Bodyguards have never stopped me before, love." In real life, bodyguards didn't prove much of a threat with proper planning and the right equipment -- or the right amount of money. Bodyguards did follow the highest bidder after all.

    When he suggested she was creepy, she frowned. "I was raised to kill. It's in my blood. That would be like me calling you creepy for being a hoitey toitey rich boy." She giggled. "Hm, though if you wouldn't do that in real life, why would you do it in game? For being a rich boy, you sure do have a lack of manners." She wore a wide grin. It was fun teasing this man. At least he wasn't boring.

    Dahlia huffed next to Violet's leg. "Ah, getting impatient are we?" The pair were supposed to be traveling to the third floor to hunt right now. Violet checked the stats of Tanoshi and then thought for a second. "Join us on a hunt on this floor. Then, as you get stronger, you'll actually be a challenge for me. It'll make it a good kill."

    @Tanoshi

  19. Violet's face grew red and she grimaced. "Shut your mouth, level 1. If it were the real world, you'd be dead by my hand anyways." Her frown turned into a smile, the thought setting her at ease. "Your [censored] - " She looked at her display, bewildered. A message popped up: "Censored due to vulgarity," it read. "Oh, are you [censored] kidding me?!" Again. The censor. She sighed and rubbed her temples with her hand. "I don't even get the joy of describing how I'd kill you in this game." She shook her head and then looked back up at the man.

    "And I already wanted to kill you before you washed your face. It's been a while since I've killed, and the urge is driving me crazy," she said, grabbing her dagger and beginning to fidget with it. Twirling it around and throwing it in the air seemed to ease her mind. "The washing your face thing just would have made it more satisfying."

    Then she looked down at Dahlia, and back at the man. "Pet? She is not a pet and she is not cute." She gave a high-pitched whistle, signaling for Dahlia to bare her fangs, which she did so obediently. Then she commanded, "Platz!" Dahlia obediently laid down next to Violet. Immediately, Violet began petting and hugging the leopard, Dahlia beginning to purr. "Such a good girl," Violet praised her.

    @Tanoshi

  20. Violet's mouth turned into a frown as she looked up at the man, crossing her arms over her chest. "It's the principle that matters. Would you do such a think in the real world?" She paused and shivered in disgust. "Actually I bet you would, so don't answer that. Just imagining it drives my disgust over the wall."

    Dahlia rubbed her nose against her partner's leg, sensing that the woman was disturbed. Violet sighed and pet the smooth, velvet coat of her familiar. "Yes, I do suppose we should at least introduce ourselves, Dahlia." A small grin spread on her lips, and her mood noticeably improved. "At least before we kill him." She laughed and did a broad bow. "Violet Delta Smith. And this is my companion, Dahlia." She gestured to her companion, the leopard bowing as well. "And don't worry. Her bark is as bad as her bite." She smiled and looked back up at the man, watching for his reaction.

    @Tanoshi

  21. Violet was strolling through the Town of Beginnings, taking her daily stroll when she spotted a player washing their face in the fountain. Her face screwed up in a look of disgust and horror. Did... did that man just put his face in that dirty water? she thought to herself. Few things could horrify this past hitwoman, but germs were a big thing for her. Sure, the water in game was clean, but the thought behind it was... disturbing to say the least. In the real world, the water would be filled with millions of germs filling up the man's facial pores. She shivered.

    Dahlia, Violet's black leopard companion, looked up at the woman, concerned. Violet looked down and managed a small smile. "That man is disgusting," she explained before walking over to him.

    "Hey, weak player!" she called to the man while walking up to him. "Why did you just wash your face in the fountain? Have you no concern for even the thought of germs?" Her face still held a slight look of disgust.

  22. Violet tilted her head. He seemed oddly innocent for this game. She sighed and smiled, looking down at his outstretched hand. Firmly, she took it in her own and shook it. "Violet Delta Smith," she introduced herself with a broad bow. Then she quickly brought up her quest menu and scrolled through the list until her finger fell upon the Earning a Living: Performer quest. Quickly reading it over, she looked back up at Abel and explained, "The quest starting point appears to be at an NPC's place. 'Alyssa's studio' it says." She thought for a moment before leading the way. "Follow me," she said abruptly as she started jogging towards a narrow street leading to a side part of town, not looking back to see if Abel was even following her.

    Dahlia trotted after her partner, glancing back and meowling to let Abel know he should follow. It seemed she was trying to help him. Maybe she had taking a liking to the tall man? Only time would tell.

    @Abel

  23. Violet was minding her own business, strolling through the main street of the Town of Beginnings with her black leopard companion, Dahlia, when she noticed a rather tall man standing off to the side. She decided to slip off into the shadows and watch him, motioning for her companion to do the same. Huh, seems like a new player. I wonder if he has anything worthy of stealing on him, Violet thought to herself, grinning. Old habits sure did die hard. However, after she saw his confused expression, she took pity on him. He seems lost, she noted.

    Silently, she pushed herself off the wall she had been leaning on and walked up to the man. "Hey, if you keep that lost look on your face, others will take advantage of you," she said without a proper introduction. "You look like a lost puppy." She laughed at her own comment before continuing. "Now, I would take you out on my own as soon as you stepped out of the safe zone, but I feel some pity for you. What's up?"

    While this interaction took place, Dahlia sat casually next to her companion.

  24. Violet strolled down the main street of the Town of Beginnings, Dahlia walking beside her. Off to the side, on a small, minor street, she noticed a young boy motioning for her to come closer. It appeared to be an NPC child. Eh, why not, Violet thought as she walked over to where the young lad was standing. "What do you want?" she asked impatiently. Then the NPC started on his spiel about showing her how to identify items in order to become a merchant. And I bet he's going to need me to do another fetch quest, she thought to herself as the boy rambled on. His next sentence was, of course, that he was out of materials and needed her to fetch some more unidentified items for him to teach her how to identify them. She gave a sigh and hit the "Accept" button that popped up on her display to take the quest. She turned without another word and headed towards the teleporter, ignoring the further ramblings of the NPC merchant.

    Dahlia followed quietly after her, her tail lazily swaying.

  25. Once Violet had finished her meal, she received a message from James letting her know that her items were finished. "Awesome!" She hopped out of the sandwich shop and raced across the street to Hawke Identifier and Alchemist. She quickly motioned for Dahlia to stay outside while she rushed up to the counter, impatient to see the items she was waiting for. "Huh, good enchantments indeed," she muttered as she turned the items over in her hands and equipped them. With a flourish, she produced 640 col to pay for the identifying services and then disappeared back out of the shop.
