  1. With a deep breath when he got the quest, he looked back at her and prepared himself to be left to do the quest all alone. It was then that he spoke though and his face brightened up slightly, a smile of relief lighting up his face temporarily. "Thanks.", he said, appreciating the company for once. It's not like he knew how to do anything after all.

They exited the safezone and he heard what she had to say, nodding and beginning to look around for materials all the same. "... She said when they spawn, so.", he kept looking around and searching for anything that glowed on the ground, grumbling in annoyance.

He even squinted his eyes whilst looking around, hoping for a better result or that something would change before ultimately sighing and crossing his arms. "Boring as hell.", he darted his eyes over to Shay, only to notice that she didn't have any better luck and groan. "Such a nice quest..."

  2. Chase went silent as well, looking at the menu and reading her name before repeating once inside of his head. "Shay." He then nodded at her and opened up his own menu, and trying to shift it so she could view it better. He ended up simply turning around due to how unfamiliar he was with the system, so she could see it over his shoulder. She could see his starter equipment, Col and stats in all of their glory.

Once she could have had a good enough peek at them, he closed it again and looked around, unsure if they were there yet or not. He didn't really ask, enjoying how silent everything was. It didn't really feel awkward, so to speak, but rather natural this time around. That made a small smile grow on his lips, even if he hadn't noticed. He was being a bit too tense for his own good up to now, after all.

  3. The answer he got was definitely not one that he'd expected. Overall, he expected players, especially more experienced ones, to have been hardened by the game's nature and rules, being more harsh or maybe even ignorant of the ones like him that stayed behind. He shrugged it off though and accepted the help. Any good reply is a sign he's getting help. He gave her a nod and gestured her to lead the way, showing a slight smile which faded away almost instantly. "Thanks."

With that, as they began to head towards the NPC's location, he silently looked at the female and inspected her, taking in her appearance. It was obvious they weren't in the same league, although he wasn't sure how- maybe it was her look, her attitude, her equipment perhaps? "... Your name?", he asked her on the way there, raising his eyebrow just slightly out of curiosity as he strutted behind her. He knew that with how much he spoke, things would get even more awkward if he didn't step out of his silent comfort zone and try to communicate for once. "My handle's ChaseR.", he introduced himself prior to looking back on the path, making sure not to trip and shooting a few glances her way every now and then.

  4. It had been about two years or so since Chase last remembered doing something of importance. He'd been living in the Town of Beginnigns since the start of this death game, thinking that if he just waited long enough, he'd be let free by the clearing group beating the game. Nothing like that had happened quite yet though, on the contrary... It could be because there weren't many people in the clearing group, or because the game was much harder than they initially thought it was. It struck him though, as he got up this very morning, that he couldn't just idly keep standing by and waiting for the best with his fingers crossed. He took a deep breath and exited the dirt cheap inn he lived in, checking his starting equipment once more to make sure everything was properly equipped. "Too bright.", he thought as he exited the inn and the sun shone in his face, groaning and moving towards the exit that lead to the fields before he realised he was wandering about aimlessly.

"... Quests, right.", he remembered, certain that they'd give him a better sense of direction in learning this world. Just as he began to head back to the front of the Black Iron Palace, Chase figured out that he hadn't a single clue of where to find any NPCs that handed out quests. Of course he hadn't, the past two years all he did was eat, sleep and walk around occasionally. Seeing as to move on to the further floors, he had to use the plaza in front of the Palace, it was a good place to start looking for novice players to give him pointers, as awkward as it'd be with his communication skills. It was then that he noticed @Shay somewhere around the plaza and silently approached her, sticking out like a sore thumb from the crowd of careless players. He was as expressionless as always, looking at her and saying quite vaguely and abruptly. "I need some help. Where do I get a quest?"

    History & Personality
Ever since he was a child, Chase had never been too talkative with new faces. He'd rather remain silent and only say what had to be said, causing him to have a bit of a rocky friend group, if one at all throughout his childhood. Once he got accustomed to others though, he talked much more and made everything much less awkward, actively contributing to discussions and being much more outgoing than he normally is. One person that'd stuck with him ever since grade school, despite all of his flaws, was his best friend, Lily. They almost always were together, like brother and sister, never really doing much without one another. As such, something sparked inside both of them when they heard about Sword Art Online and the NerveGear. They kept all their pocket money for the full release, and waited together in line to buy one of each. When they were on their way back home, Lily's parents informed her of an urgency that came up and asked for her to come along, causing her to be unable to test run the game as intended. She handed the NerveGear and game to Chase, wanting him to give her his first impressions before she got her turn too. And like so, he went back home and launched the game.

The game seemed fascinating and everything about it was incredibly realistic. The boy let loose, exploring around the starting floor filled with excitement and making sure to leave no stone unturned. Filled with excitement though, he didn't pay much attention to the specifics and only let himself sink into the experience with how realistic it all seemed, almost like he himself was in the game. By the time he wanted to leave and tell Lily of everything he'd just seen through a message, he couldn't. The button wasn't there. Not too long after, he got teleported back to the town square in front of the Black Iron Palace, and Chase was informed of the terrible fate Kayaba had dealt any of players stuck alongside the bluehead.

Now trapped in a death game, it's been quite some time since its start and he still hadn't accomplished anything. He was sticking to the Town of Beginnings, managing his resources all too carefully in order to never run out. Up until his Col count started to diminish from buying food to survive, the idea of fighting monsters and risking his life out there never even came to mind. Now though, things were different. It sparked inside of him, that he too, had to take action, to return back to the real world. Of course, he knew that'd be even harder for him. He was silent, bad with words and even worse at expressing himself and being descriptive. Teamwork looked like a must in order to get out of this world, but he knew it'd be even more challenging for him. So two years after standing by idly, he decided to take a stand and begin experiencing the world of Aincrad for himself.
    Virtues:

    • Reliable - Although he's mostly silent, Chase can show he reliable he is once he gets the hang of a task. He feels a sense of duty whenever assigned with any sort of a job, and refuses to back down until he's done his fill to help. As such, he comes off as someone willing to help and do all in his power to stick to his words. This creates a clash with his skill at expressing himself and how stubborn he can be from time to time, allowing the best side of him to show just as much as the worst does.
    • Self-Driven - Despite starting out with no motive but to clear the game, Chase finally found purpose in everything that he did. The reason to get out being Lily, what he strived for while he was still inside being Kayaba and the Unique Skills he left to the players as a way to cling on to hope. He wants to find out everything about unique skills and Kayaba, as well as his motives for leaving them there. Even if he acts selfless at times, he has his own goals that no matter his social interactions, he won't stop pursuing. As such, he needs no motivation whatsoever to get his gears going and will always look for a way out of a predicament himself, even if nobody is going to help him do so.
    • Thoughtful Even if it doesn't show quite that much, Chase is very thoughtful of everyone and everything around him. He'll take time to form his own opinions on others before acting in any way, taking a different approach to conversations and tasks. Because of this, he comes off as a strategical and calculated person. Although not always, if he feels he could benefit from a situation that he'd normally not put himself into, he might as well choose to give it a shot for the benefit of himself and anybody else involved.

    Flaws:

    • Short-Tempered - Like a volcano ready to erupt, Chase can be very short-tempered. While he doesn't care about whatever's directed at him, whenever he sees one of the people he thinks of quite highly get insulted or threatened, he'll begin to grow angry. This doesn't bode too well alongside the rush of adrenaline that he gets from fighting, creating a horrible combination when both go off.
    • Adrenaline Monster - This one can be taken quite literally. Chase's self control is already bad enough when he gets agitated, and adrenaline just sends him into overdrive. It's not often that he finds himself losing full control to his rush, but it still happens enough to be noticed- a worrying amount too. It's best to not push him too much once he's in such a state, or the results can be less than unsatisfactory.
    • Stubborn - Oftentimes, Chase will listen to advice but decide to ignore it for his own reasons. It could be for his own benefit, or someone else's. He always listens to what others has to say, but he almost never gives others' opinions more value than he does his own judgement. This makes working with him harder, as some persistence is required to get through to him at times. Likewise, it's oftentimes crushing for him to find out he was in the wrong and he might refuse to admit it even when it might be the best choice. This could very well be the reason his relationship with someone worsens, too.
    • Lost Unlike the rest of his flaws, this one usually won't kick in. Most people will never even see this side of Chase- but he's lost. Although not as overwhelmed as initially when he was trapped in Aincrad, he experiences feelings and days when he just feels lonely, scared and clueless as to what to do. This might lead to him attaching himself more than would be reasonable to some, although it must be noted said 'some' will be few and far between, if any at all. He won't cling onto them for dear life and weigh them down, but he'll value their opinions and advice much more than anybody else's, letting them 'control' his actions to an extent.

    Relationships
Legend: Great Good - Don't mind them Bad - Horrible Unique

NIGHT - "She also uses two handed swords. She was quiet at first, but she's kind of like me. She gave me a few clues to solving the mystery behind Calrex and if there's even a source to his strength in the first place. Apparently, according to her, information brokers are a thing too. I might want to look into that more. I'll turn to her if I ever need anything with my weapons probably. After my little expedition on the 9th with 'her', I believe I know much more about her. We've quested lots and I've come to the conclusion she's someone I can trust with my all. I owe her a lot."

Mari - "A two handed spear user. She gives off a very motherly aura and always helps me feel at ease. I've hurt her, but I don't want to stop hanging out with her. It feels like being around her will do me good. I don't even know her that much, but... I can't explain it. I hope we get more time together.

Shay - "She's a good person. She sucks at speaking as much as I do, and she's helped me. I want to clear the game with her. There's a problem though. She isn't doing anything. I'm not putting her below me, but... she hasn't worked any since I got us a house. She moved out to 'learn herself better and become stronger'. I believe in her, just... Come back safe, Shay. Don't be stupid or stubborn this time, please."

Ariel "A big sister type of person. She has helped me get my profession, and do a bit more. She wanted me to join something like a school, but... I'll just stick to receiving her help until I get stronger than her. She's in the frontlines, and very powerful, so it'll be a while."

Kiluia Seiko "Haine's soulmate, by the looks of it. I'm not sure what they were doing looking for trinkets in the bottom floors I was questing, but... They seemed to be strong enough. Kiluia sounded reliable and dependable, but I never really got to see him in action. He'd be good company if I was any more social."

Haine "Kiluia's soulmate, by the looks of it. I'm not sure what they were doing looking for trinkets in the bottom floors I was questing, but... They seemed to be strong enough. I never got to see her in action at first, but she appeared to be the strongest, if what Kiluia said about their levels was true. She was ready to help even once I'd turned her offer down. We talked again more recently and killed a snake or something around those lines. It was a complete pain in the ass but she put in a huge amount of effort. Hard worker."

Grimm Reaper "A newbie that came by my shop for a few trinkets. He seems rather peppy and he's not bad company at all. Just still new to the game. He wants to be a tank and seems to have the same reason for getting started as I did- he feels guilty. That's about all we have in common. I'll help him out to repay the favor to Ariel, Shay and everybody else that helped me."

Raidou "Another member of that god forsaken guild. I feel like I was too aggressive to him at first on the basis he'd be like the rest, but he somehow wasn't. I don't want to say I trust him, but he felt different than the rest. He's not as thickheaded or stubborn as the rest of Firm Anima, so... He's okay. For now. I still don't know anything about him. He seemed to play similarly to me, however."

Vie "My first customer. It's not like I hold any negativity towards her or anything. It's good, she finally gave me some business so now I feel like being an artisan at least holds some merit in and of itself, it's just er... She doesn't seem to go along too well with me. Neither she nor Katoka. My familiar, Blizz especially, I'm certain she doesn't like all that much. She's a good girl, just... I feel like I've messed up more than usual with her."

Yuki "She's the cook from the first floor. Yeah, she helps me out and I buy from her shop, but that's cause I can't find anybody else. I don't like how she's treated me and Shay, but she took me to a rather hard quest and did the tanking. That means little between two tanks, but... she also gave me a weapon. If she wanted to buy my forgiveness, she managed to just because she helped Shay out. Hmph."

Freyd "A swordsman that uses two-handed blades, just like I. That's where the similarities stop with this sick bastard. I could go on and on, but... it's... complicated."

Elora "A spear user, I believe... I didn't pay much attention. She's a greenhead, looks like an elf, and blamed me for giving them leeway to train their abilities. I'm not sure she's the sort of person I want to be around. This happened alongside Katoka threatening me, so it was... probably me not fitting in. I'm better off away from those two. Freyd has gotten to her, as well... I have no clue how she's so naive."

Katoka "A blonde samurai that was along with Vie after she shopped from me. We went out on a small trip to some courtyard over in the first, but we didn't get a lot of materials. And then I found her around the third a few days later, but I managed to get her to threaten me. She doesn't like me. I shouldn't hang out with her alone. She thinks very highly of Freyd. According to her, he's a 'gentleman'. Tch. He must have lied tons to her. I can't help her out of it though."

Calrex "He probably doesn't even know who I am. I don't know if it's a player or an NPC, that's what I'm looking into. There's been few sightings of him outside of events, so those are my best shot. The best tank in the game, according to my sources. I want to find every Unique Skill holder, and learn more about Unique Skills. More than anything, get stronger than him. If I do, that means I'll be one of the strongest players, so I'll be able to clear the game."
