  1. -- And none of the weapons provided were anywhere near her expertise. Typical! Her subjects always liked to make things hard for the monarchy, didn't they? Hell, even some of the gathered were of the right mind and objecting fiercely to the huntress' demands.

What a dumb restriction! Nian had ought to leave by now.

Instead, the player grit her teeth and pulled out one of the Warhammers from their stack. It was heftier than the other blades and the sticks, very much similar to her own coat of arms had the quest not given it the shaft. Just as the crowd started to form a line, approaching the racks with an unbridled eagerness, the little emperor had managed to weasel her way out from the cluster with barely more than a glare and partial growl. Only when she'd cleared a fair distance away from the other participants did the woman start swinging her weapon in a trial of movements.

Sure enough, the weight of the world in her hands was more than enough to convince her she was in the right. Aside from her ever-glowing confidence in her instincts, of course.

    Picking up [Warhammer].

  2. Where would they be without her?

At first glance, without even looking into the specifics of this intel, she knew it wasn't worth her time. It was only upon the roll of the die, an unceremonious decision to pick at random which lucky soul would receive her blessings that Nian was delivered straight to the doorstep of the twenty third.

Warm, dark, humid. Certainly no place for a superior like her to roam about. With a chuff, she kept her breathing shallow. A raise of her cap when she noticed the crowd gathering was enough to indicate to her the right of her presence within the area.

An emperor is never late to the party. Rather, they brought the heart of it to them. Nian strode on up right by the position of her designated NPC -- if there was a crowd, she waded on past them, elbowing through the sea with barely a modicum of grace.

    "Make way...!"

No looks of disgusts from her in public. When she made eye contact with Hannah, she declared her attendance with a shout and a wave. "You'll have my support today. Be thankful, commoner!!"

  3. She'd expected the requests to be completed within a few hours, but couldn't help to stay just to inspect the rest of the available apparel. Had anything been eye-catching enough, it would have had to gone into her wardrobe.

Nothing. And by the time she'd done looking through the swath of goods available, the tailor was back.

"Should do the trick. Try them on and make sure they're a good fit."

    "Right."

The jacket fit perfectly. It suited Nian's tastes well -- Aincrad would start to grow colder soon with the coming winter. As for the weapons, they were exactly as she needed; their medium would appreciate the enhancements alongside the items' well-measured fit.

The player was not without manners. One deep bow -- "Thank you for the expediency." -- and the woman was out the door in haste.

  4. No word? No problem. There were always alternatives, even if that last rumor did leave a sour note on the tip of her tongue. Down the streets of the first, in an alleyway she swore she'd never be caught in had it not been out of desperation, there rested a shop that held clothing of her liking.

Comfortable wear. Delicate touch. Nian's quick verification of the shopkeeper's stock was but a refined assessment of his skills -- when she was certain the fabrics would be fitted to her liking, three papers fell onto the counter, along with a stern yet positive gaze and a nod.

He knew what to do next, the emperor was sure.

  5. There it was.

    Perfection.

Either it had been the spikes upon the armor piece that stole her breath away, ground to a sharp point difficult for opponents to ignore. Or it was the intricacies of the piece, details etched into metal in a mesmerizing structure, that Nian knew her vision for the piece had come true. But it was with an exhale that her instincts returned, a rugged thumb brushing over the plate with extreme caution.

Something was off. The measurements? Not by more than a smidgen.

The player quickly donned the equipment, mind running through calculations for flexibility during the heat of battle. A little tight -- nothing she couldn't deal with. Where her subject faltered, she had to make up the difference.

"It's enough," Nian called back to the blacksmith with a flick of her cap. "Au revoir. Keep the change."

The patron sauntered off, dismissing the chest piece with a snap of her fingers.

  6. Despite its appearances to the artisan, it was quickly apparent from the look that crossed Nian's image when she returned that something about his craft was... off. A red handkerchief was summoned from the scrutinizing patron's inventory, and she wiped both items down with a frown before inspecting each of them one after another.

"A few micrometres off," she muttered under her breath, her eyes focused on the gap between the stamp and its cap. The woman continued her analysis, pressing the chop upon her skin to ensure the quality of its marks. Her final relief came when she looked forward to pocketing the tiny trinket, the cover of it clicking satisfactorily into place. "It'll do."

A scatter of greebles returned her collection's sake back into Nian's hold. "Ciao," the player hollered back, boosting off the ground with an agile step. "Keep the change, commoner."

  7. The sign outside the shop read 'Go Away'. But Nian's quest was much more important. Surely the rules could be bent for her alone.

It was only when she'd entered the store, passed through the creaky, shambling door that she then noticed the error of her plans. For starters, the shop was as dead as a ghost town, despite the rumors that there might have been someone with a specific set of skills living there. Still, the letters of request came down onto what horizontal surface first made itself known to her through the dim light of the outdoors. Red eyes searched through the mist -- but evidently, the player found nothing.

So it was with high suspicion (and another set of prepared copies of her request still in her inventory) that the player took her leave from the creepy old shack.

  8. —Artisan is permanently closed. DO NOT ASK—

(So, what? The shop was called 'The Sword' now?)

An orders fell onto the desk of the blacksmith, spacious fields scrawled out with varying details in large, capitalized letters. The writing looked neat and prim, but the blot of the pen's ink seemed to dictate more haste than its author meant to convey.

"Here. Make these. And be as precise as you can with the measurements." With a quick finger, she tapped the request near the top, where her name was signed. "Message me when they're done."

With that, the customer bailed from the store.

  9. "Make me another one."

The object the player had placed upon the counter appeared to be small. Had ChaseR not caught the woman's discreet movements, perhaps he might not have known of the item's existence. And yet, what missed information that might have been brought with the order had been assuaged by a small ticket attached to the tube; tabbed red on one end, and in bold black ink at the center, the name 'NIAN' was imprinted upon it.

Another pouch was formed upon the table in seconds. Velveteen green cloth, tucked away with a bronze string, a creation from Cardinal themselves. "Let me know when it's ready," the patron ushered, before taking her leave from the store.

There are three things that one should note when it comes to Nian.

The first: Nian is delusional. Do not trust Nian's words.
The second: Nian is a firecracker; loud, fiery and by all means unstoppable. Stay away.
The third: Nian is an idiot.

    Welcome to Aincrad, you idiot.

     history

    Spoiler

     |  the little emperor.

     |  once upon a time, there lived a little emperor in the heart of a metropolis. the king and queen were grateful for the birth of their heir, and were quick to spoil him with gifts of wealth and fortune without nary a second thought. they told him that he was made to be happy and enjoy the life that had been delivered onto him, and the heir reciprocated with joy and satisfaction. for many years, the little emperor would live in bliss.

     |  at the edge of this little emperor's domain, there stood a vast ocean. every day since the age of five, the emperor would be brought by his vassals to the water's edge, taught to wade in it for hours at a time. it puzzled the heir greatly why he was issued this task, as all that came of it was an overwhelming exhaustion and the taste of salt water. out of all the wonders in his life, this was the one curiosity of his routine that bothered him the most.

     |  one day, after his strength had left him on the third attempt, he resolved to ask his parents about the strange phenomenon. he was taught to enjoy life, offered to do so to its fullest extent; yet, the existence of this hardship was contradictory at best. what was the reason behind enforcing such an act upon him?

     |  this questioning did not sit well with the king and queen. for all they had given him, he dared question their rulings upon his schedule? the little emperor was shocked at his parents' retaliation, and with each push for answers, they took away another joy from his life. soon, it left the emperor quiet, forced to wade in the ocean for the rest of his days with his satisfaction points made lean and faltering.

     |  the little emperor was not happy with this. and yet in his quiet, the wealth and fortune he had gotten accustomed to slowly started to trickle back in. he would know bliss once more.

     |  but it gnawed at him the differences in his family's attitude towards his various behaviours.

     |  the little emperor tried many methods of escaping his harsh punishment. they had always returned him to the ocean once he had been caught disregarding his duties. in spite of his foiled retreats, he persevered.

     |  one day, a wise old man offered him magical glasses that would whisk him away to a magical land where anything was possible. and the little emperor would try anything once, in the hopes that this attempt would be his last.

     |  this one seemed to work well enough.

     virtues

    Spoiler

      [乘風破浪] | ambitious.

     |  the world was offered to ying min on a platter for a reason, and that was so that she could rule it in the best way she saw fit. as royalty, ying min is a master at envisioning only but the best methods and solutions to a given problem. give this player a meter, and she'll aim to take it a mile.

      [一身是膽] | confidence.

     |  one cannot rule the world with the meekness of a mouse. ying min was fit for the throne by being boisterous and fearsome. atop her palace of fortune, nothing is capable of shaking the esteem in herself.

      [一意孤行] | single-minded.

     |  an incredible determination moves this emperor to get what she wants in the end. adversity is of no obstacle to her. even if the road ahead has to be walked alone, ying min will slough through the muck, as disgraceful as it would be to her status, to achieve the fruits of her devoted labour.

     flaws

    Spoiler

           the emperor has no flaws.

      [自高自大] | narcissism.

     |  above all else, the emperor comes first. ying min is quick to think about their own considerations ahead of anyone else's. what comes after is up to her own musings; perhaps, if the ruler is entertained, they might think about the sheep they lead.

      [夸父追日] | chasing the sun.

     |  when the world is at your finger tips, anything feels possible. it is this danger that fails to register with ying min, threatening to bring downfall to her domain. but this had always been the way with the emperor.

      [鳳毛麟角] | seeking the unobtainable.

     |  spoiled is but an underrated word for this ruler. no, an overindulgence of delights is more proper a form to describe her wantings for quality. ying min had standards, for crying out loud, and is near incapable with putting up with nothing but the best.

     notes

    Spoiler

     |  GENERAL

    • it goes without saying that ying min is not actually of royal blood.
    • mbti profile: entp.
    • horoscope sign: cancer.
    • chinese zodiac: dragon.
    • nian's name is made up of the following characters:
      huang (皇) [ royal, imperial, ruler, superior ] | originally derived from huang (黄) [ yellow ].
ying (英) [ hero, outstanding, excellent, english ]
min (敏) [ quick, nimble, agile, smart ]
    • nian's handle has a handful of meanings depending on the chinese character used, however ying min's intention was with nian (年) [ year ].

     |  PERSONAL

    • english is ying min's secondary language. the first is cantonese.
    • ying min plays the pan flutes, bass and piano. it is only part of her culture to have picked up instruments, and it is in her fidgeting and eccentric nature that she learned the first.
    • instead of singing at karaokes, she brings along her instruments and plays them, or supports her companions with provided tambourines instead.
    • ying min regulates multiple social media accounts. all of them have been aesthetic based, save a personal account on mastodon and a political watch blog on tumblr.

     |  EDUCATION

    • ying min is definitely a b+/a- student.
    • ying min has had plenty of private tutors. she had no favorites, save the ones that were advertised with an interesting title, like 'queen of science' or 'god over math'. she was never catered her favorites picks.
    • ying min's cramming methods were always based off memory cards.
    • ying min has a degree in financial analytics. the course material is but a faded memory by now.
    • imagine having after school activities. couldn't be ying min (except for track and field back in secondary school, and only because she was forced to build for that physical fitness test early).
