Nari nodded a slight getting to Nemo as they caught up to the NPC. She wasn’t sure that she would ever truly forgive him for what he had done to her upon their very first ever meeting, but Nari was feeling far less animosity towards the NPC. She knew in her mind that what he had done was simply what he was programed to do – he truly had no choice in it all, and yet… it still stung, enough that she still wasn’t able to smile at the NPC as they came together. Her thoughts were distracted as Bismuth talked about his love of the current floor, about why he had made it his home. Nari listened

[F05 - SP] The Colosseum | <<Butcher in the Sands>>
Nari-Lanreth replied to Nari-Lanreth's topic in Beginner Floors
The sands made her going slow, but she eventually found herself standing beneath a large wall that was clearly recently uncovered from the sands it had once been buried beneath. She could still see the piles of sand along the tops of the wall, and caught on outcroppings that stuck out along the various openings – openings that Nari thought might be windows. Glancing about, she saw an entrance a little ways away from her current position, and made her way towards it. Something about the entire structure reminded her of the colosseum in old Rome, as if this were a miniature version of it – -

Yet another success, Nari deposited the new found items into her inventory. She was certainly having success finding the basic goods, but so far, her luck had struck out on the demonic shards. She figured she could continue her search as she made her way across the desert, her eyes casting across the sands as she went. Even if she wasn’t finding exactly what she wanted, she couldn’t deny that her searches were becoming profitable at this point. “Hey…Yuki…Do you see that…?” Nari felt herself squint against the sands as she tried to make out the building in the distance. She couldn’t quite -

Her eyes immediately caught sight of the glow against the otherwise plain desert sands, and she wandered over to the area just off the beaten path. Making sure not to fall into any traps, she took some time digging out the metallic bars, finding a number of pieces of col as well. Content with the find, she returned to her walk along the dunes, still searching for anything of value to make an appearance. She giggled to herself as she realised how different she was now. When she had first started this death game – after the announcement – she had barely been able to hold her place in combat -

The saltworm exploded, and Nari breathed a sigh of relief. The fight had lasted longer than she would’ve liked. She was starting to realise that as a tank, her ability to cause damage was truly hampered – she could certainly take a hit and barely notice it, but her ability to lash out wasn’t where she was strong. She pondered the concept as she continued her walk through the desert, her eyes naturally searching the sands for anything of interest – especially those materials she so loved to find. “Definitely something to keep in mind, Yuki. I need to rely on others to slam out the damage – -

This time her strike connected with the beast, and she watched as the entire form froze up – the tech skill locking it in place and providing her some relief, if only for the moment. Taking a breath, she stabilised herself on the sands before levelling her spear once more. She could feel the fight coming to its end, and as she readied herself, she wondered when these instances had gotten so easy. Even with the slight frustrations of missed attacks, she felt no fear in combat now – it was almost too easy sometimes, and sometimes she found herself yearning for something more…challenging. A -

She was ready for the strike from below this time, and as she felt the sands beneath her feet suddenly shift, she launched herself sideways – completely avoiding the upwards strike of the tail that had been buried beneath the sands. Giving out a small growl, she realised that she was in no position to strike out in retaliation, and found herself striding through the sands to rejoin the fight in earnest. ‘This thing is getting to be an annoyance. I need to finish it, now. Before it becomes an actual threat through simply tiring me out…’ Levelling her weapon and shield, she made her way int -

Nari felt the sands give out beneath her feet suddenly as the creature began its forward lunge. It took her far longer than she would’ve liked to realise that her opponent was feinting her – the strike coming from below, not ahead, as she had expected. Her armour took the brunt of the hit as the tail erupted from beneath her, throwing her a few metres away to land in the sand rather roughly. Crawling to her feet, she cursed herself for letting her guard down, and while her health had taken almost no real damage – the health bar already returning to its full allotment thanks to her battle -

As the tip of her spear pierced the flesh of the first saltworm, Nari’s efforts were rewarded with a shower of sparks. The creature erupted into thousands of shards, which drifted down through the air before disappearing. Shifting her feet to face the second creatures, she smiled – mostly to herself – at her success. Although she had feared the weapon would be a downgrade from what she had been wielding before – especially the lack of bonus towards her accuracy – she was pleasantly surprised with its performance thus far. Eyeing the second saltworm, Nari waited once more for an opening, h -

Her first strike was far more devastating than Nari had ever suspected it could be, and for the briefest of moments she found herself staring at her new weapon – absolutely overwhelmed with joy at what it could do. She knew that she would have to find a way to repay NIGHT and the other woman for it, somehow. ‘Focus on the fight for now, if you survive you can find a way to pay them back in kind. For now, let’s put this to good use and end this as quickly as we possibly can.’ Nodding to herself, she readied herself for another strike – bringing her shield up in front of her, and levelling -

She hadn’t gotten far into the Badlands before she felt the rumbling in the ground beneath her. Carefully pacing her steps, she drew her shield in close, pulling her spear up into a ready position. Her eyes darting around, looking for any signs of creatures nearby – above, or below the sands. Her caution was rewarded when two large worm creatures erupted from the sands just mere steps away from her. Nari glanced between the two of them, wondering just how much danger she was in. Their health bars weren’t enormous, nor did they appear to be anything other than standard floor spawns. -
Nari had received notification from one of her information broker friends about a sudden shifting of sands in the deserts of floor five. Normally, she wouldn’t have cared less about such a change in the weather – or the landscape – but, it had apparently unearthed some sort of ruins that were worth taking a deep dive into. She had put off following up with it until a secondary source had confirmed it. And so, Nari had found herself stepping off the teleporter pad on the fifth floor once more, her steps leading her out into the wilds in search of the colosseum. Her travels had brought he

Eyeing the shop, Nari will wander in, calling out as she goes. “Uhm…hello? I was sent to pick up an item…a…uh…spear? I think? A friend told me to come here to collect it. NIGHT. The friend. Said to come here. NIGHT said to come here.” Taking a breath, she’ll start fresh, realising she had been rambling inconsistently. “My friend NIGHT said to come to this shop to pick up a spear? I hope I’m in the right place…” Looking around again, she’ll eye up the shop. It did look like the place NIGHT had described, and the sign out front had matched the one described. -

Nari-Lanreth replied to Nari-Lanreth's topic in Beginner Floors
Although the fight had started well, Nari could only watch and ponder as Bismuth and the boar danced around one another – in some sort of deadly, comical performance. A few times she caught herself readying to launch into the conflict, before remembering that Bismuth had wanted to face this one alone. It took almost all of her concentration to remain on alert – to not step in, and she found that as the fight went longer and longer, her ability not to help her newfound friend was becoming more and more difficult. “Hey…uh…Bis…everything okay? Do…do you need me to…help? Or have you got this… -

Nari cocked her head at Vigilon’s question, her eyes suddenly glancing about. “Now that you mention it…it did feel like something was watching us back at the teleporter. But…I figured it was just me being paranoid…” She glanced at Yuki, wondering if the woman had caught sight of something, and was just trying to confirm it. Nari knew her own ability to find anything or anyone with even a mediocre stealth score would be far subpar compared to many others – she’d been so focused on her combative statuses, that she hadn’t bothered on alternative skills. “I wouldn’t worry too much thoug -

Nari flushed slightly at the girl’s surprise, and announcement that she was still at rank three in foraging. Nari had been there not too long ago, but she had been…pushing rather hard. The follow up questions were what Nari was expecting, and she shook her head slightly before speaking the words aloud. “I uhm…I’ve been pushing fairly hard. Trying to catch up with the front liners in earnest. And it’s been working – I think. At least, I feel like it’s been working.” A quick, beaming smile towards Astreya as she thought back on just how far she’d come. “Oh. Other friends…I mean, yeah…I’ve -

The drop of the sack hitting the floor pulled Nari’s attention. The square was empty at this time of day – empty, save for two individuals she’d never seen before who seemed to be keeping to themselves. She eyed them each, getting an odd vibe from the one currently seated on the ground, directly in the centre of the square near the teleport pad. Something about him… She shook her head to rid herself of the feeling, it was likely nothing more than nerves at partaking in what was essential her first step towards the frontlines. ‘This rumour had better be worthwhile, otherwise...’ The t -

Nari glanced back as she walked towards Nemo, pondering the question about if the garden had been the same. She’d been there a few times – and most times the garden had been fairly similar… “Uhm…I guess there’s sometimes some slight differences. I visited it on the fourth floor once, and it was entirely covered in a light dusting of snow. So many it takes some properties of the floor you originate from?” She really didn’t have much proof to go on – but maybe if today’s garden showed some differences, something similar to this floor – then maybe she could confirm that. “I guess we’ll just -

Nari saw the flashing image of Astreya almost immediately – even in the crowd, the girl somehow stuck out. At least, Nari felt like she stuck out. Smiling at her in return, she wandered over towards her, tucking her spear into her body as she went so as to avoid hitting anyone in the crowd with it. “Hey Iris. Yeah, quite a coincidence…did you hear Nemo was around here too? One of my info…” She paused to let a few NPCs slide past, before continuing. “…well, someone I know told me that he was here. I’ve visited the gardens a few time – have you yet?” She realised she was talking faster -

Nari’s eyes had shifted alongside Cleo’s, drifting towards the direction of the sound. She could see the girl climb to her feet in the corner of her eye, but her awareness focused on the distance. Something had cracked, she was sure of it…and the one thing she knew for sure, was that sounds in the distance were never good. “Moving on may not be a bad idea.” She turned and started heading inwards, deeper into the ruins themselves. On her shoulder, Yuki twitched, a sign that she had also caught the sound in the air, and something about it – or the environment – was making the fox uneasy. Kn -

Nari nodded as the player talked about their choice of not choosing, and wisely realised it might not be the absolute best idea to follow through with. She considered the question, taking time to cover a few other pointers before covering her own choices. “DPS is good – especially if you’re focusing on that dagger, like it seems. Recommendation, if you’re willing to take it. Don’t try and dip through everything, if you can help it. It’ll truly weaken you in areas that you should focus on – not to say that you should ignore armour and the benefits of it, but that doesn’t necessarily mean y -

Nari blinked as the message came in, immediately leaping out of the bed to read it. Her eyes quickly raced over it before she collected her few necessary possessions, before racing out the door and heading down the road towards the teleporter pad. She had to stop and turn around halfway there when she realised she’d accidentally left Yuki behind – and as she returned, she knew from the look on the fox’s face that no amount of treats was going to immediately resolve the damage she’d done. “I’m sorry Yuki…I’m just…excited. Come on, I promise I’ll make it up to you…” Almost reluctantly, the -

“It… can be.” Nari glanced over the player, taking in their weapons, their armour, and their general setup and appearance. “With this game, there’s three major fighting styles. DPS – that’s damage focusing, Tank – those are people like myself who set themselves up to take damage, and Support – generally individuals’ setup to support through healing, debuffing the enemy, providing buffs to their party members…” Nari paused to let the information sink in, before continuing. “There are of course subsets of each class, and you’ll see intermingling to a degree – some individuals will take tank -

Nari glanced back at the man, nodding at his request. A slight smile on her face as she responded to him. “There’s no need to worry about that – like I said, the quest won’t let me interfere. You’re basically on your own with this…the best I can do is provide you protection if you accident draw something in to fight, or get too close to a mob. Other than that, I’ll be a bit aways, probably doing some foraging of my own.” She gave the man another once over, realising how new his equipment looked. “You…haven’t been out in the field before, have you? Not to say it’s a bad thing…just…curious. -

Nari thought back to the different skills that a familiar could do. It had been a while since she’d considered it – and for her, specifically, it had been an easy enough decision. “Well, Yuki is a profession based familiar…she provides me with help in relation to my crafting – it’s truly been a blessing for my abilities as a blacksmith. But…familiars can do a number of things, from helping in combat, to helping with searching for things – or profession help for that matter. And combat doesn’t necessarily mean they’re attacking or taking hits for you, it could be something as simple as pr
