<< ABOUT >>

Chapel is the older of the three youngest siblings in his family (the twins). His mother and father got divorced when he was 10, after his father cheated on his mother. Their mother moved out of the house and into an apartment that their uncle Samuel helped her get. Chapel looked after his siblings, especially during the times their mother had to work overnight shifts. He found himself being even more fatherly to his siblings when he visited his father; the visits stopped after only a year. His older brother and sister would help him around the house, but Chapel preferred cleaning and cooking himself; from the time he was young, he had always been a bit of a homemaker, and preferred his meticulous attention to detail over his older siblings' crude methods. The twins, although they did love Chapel, were constantly trying to get him in trouble (to no avail, of course-- his mother was well aware of his busy work around the house at all times). Chapel didn't get in to video games until his last year in middle school. Chapel had quite the tendency to get walked all over by people who abused his kindness, but in online video games, he was greeted by people who loved his helpful attitude and outgoing personality. Chapel felt the community much more rewarding to be around than anyone in his real life. Besides, glistening digital muscles for closeted teen boys is always a plus.

While in his second year of high school, Chapel got a job to save up money for his own laptop for gaming. It was in high school that his best friends introduced him to MMORP. Chapel was immediately enamored with the support classes-- and was actually surprisingly good-- which lead to them asking him to join their team. He was unsure, because he liked bouncing from party-to-party helping different people... but eventually agreed. His friends helped him get the gear he would need, and allowed him to level up quicker than he was before. From there, Chapel played a few more MMORP, even getting his younger brother to play eventually.

While in his third year of high school, "Sword Art Online," the world's first VRMMORPG, was published. Chapel blew all the money he had saved for other anticipated video games on the NerveGear and a pre-order of SAO. He bragged about it to all his friends who hadn't been able to secure a copy of the limited amount. He was so excited, he did every bit of research he could (although there was very limited information available at all) and stayed up all night thinking about it.

When SAO came out, Chapel eagerly laid in bed and started the game. As the truth was revealed, he realized every ounce of bragging and anticipation was pure ignorance. Everything was replaced with regret. But, the feeling subsided as floors began to be cleared and some names became bigger. Chapel-- no-- Kekoa was going to join the front lines and help everyone escape.

<< VIRTUES & FLAWS >>

<< Parently >> Chapel has always been a father (and a bit of a mother) figure to his siblings ever since he was little. He has an unbiased, nurturing care for everyone he meets. With everyone being his "Hanai" (literally meaning "adopted child" in Hawaiian), the nickname he bestows upon almost anyone, there's a level of love and protection for each player he parties up with. Age does not make a difference, and neither does gender or height or anything. Everyone is his Hanai.

<< Positive >> Kekoa is an optimist; he typically focuses on the positive side of every situation. However, he is not the positive kind that always sees the glass as half full, as he recognizes that it may be smarter sometimes to see it as half empty. His positivity is something that just comes second-nature to his kindness, but does not defeat his intelligence. Most people can appreciate his ability to make people in-game feel a little better about their situation.

<< Intelligent >> The fifteen year old was actually a year ahead of his classmates in school; he skipped the sixth grade when his assessment tests came back with a perfect score. He had all A's throughout the majority of high school (save for that one C+ in Drama; he's not an actor). Kekoa is very perceptive, and can typically assess a situation fairly quickly and have a plan right away. It's part of his meticulous nature, but Chapel is always looking for more and more data to swallow up.

<< Obsessive >> Kekoa dosn't know it, but he actually has minor OCD. It's the reason he often finds himself so caught up in making everything neat and orderly the way he wants around the house all the time. Even in the game, his OCDs translate in to an overwhelming need to satify everyone's needs. He always feels like he needs to actually wipe clean a dungeon of all floor monsters (when he can actually get there of course). Kekoa finds himself overthinking simply things as well because of his obsessiveness, and it usually takes a sibling stepping in to talk him down from going on one of his crazy rants (it only happened once; he doesn't like to talk about it).

<< Unlucky >> Kekoa is terribly unlucky, often finding himself in situations (usually comedic to onlookers) that cause him some difficulty. He is nervous for beginning SAO because he knows a large part of the system is categorized by numbers and luck. Kekoa has actually been struck by lightning once when he was 14-- well, it struck the pavement right in front of him, but he could feel the static run up his spine. Some may call that lucky, but it actually short-circuited the 3DS he had just bought; he was literally walking home from the store. Sigh.

<< Dramatic >> Kekoa is typically very giving of himself to enter any kind of situation (no matter how dangerous), but when he does come across unfortunate situations, he is very... theatrical about it. "Woah is me" is a good description for Kekoa, but he gets it from his mother. It's mainly a ploy to get attention from boys, really, but he is still quite the drama queen when in the field by himself. He likes talking directly to monsters like they can understand him, and explaining how absolutely sinful it is for them to want to hurt him like that. His dramatics can sometimes get in the way of his focus.

RELATIONSHIPS

» Nikodemus_BlackwoodOtherwise known as Nuiko to Kekoa. The man helped him through his first combative quest and gave Kekoa advice for keeping his head up. Kekoa isn't sure if he sees Nuiko as an older brother, father figure, or just a crush. Whatever the man truly is to Kekoa, he has been a bit of an inspiration for Kekoa to get to the front lines. He mentioned in Episode 3 that it would be "embarrassing" to die before getting to the front lines, after what he told Nuiko. The man also "saved his life," in a way, but Kekoa hasn't shown much recognition of such.
