[PP-F4-NK] <<Avalanche>> Climate Change

Kooh’s expression was deadpan as she stared at the plain wall in front of her. The girl had been laying in bed for hours now, awake but refusing to pick herself up and acknowledge the world. She wished she had her phone, or something to hold her short attention span. Scrolling through the game's menus got boring after flipping through every section for the fourth time. Kooh propped herself up on her arms, laying on her stomach and resisting the urge to yawn. She gave a sideways glance at the rest of the simple room she resided in. The passing thought of her Performer profession crossed her mind, but she shook her head lightly to dismiss it. She had no reason to leave the shop today, and if Sey was still around he might nag her to pick up a quest or do something productive. The girl instead twisted around, letting her back fall against the bed with her arms outstretched to her sides as she switched to staring at the plain ceiling. If she were so lucky, maybe she wouldn't hear from him at all today.

But she wasn’t so lucky, because it was the man of the hour and the one who owned the shop. Well, he now half-owned it. And while he did like to sleep, he liked to see improvement in players as well. And Kooh was no exception. By this point in time, he learned that asking was not going to be doing anything. It was going to have to be demanded in order to gain any progress. So he entered the room. “Yo Kooh. Rise and shine. I know a quest that you could do.” he started off as he would move to a wall of the room that was formerly his own bedroom. “And by you, I mean us. It’s a bit tough for your level, but it should give you enough skill points to level up about once or twice, and I’m not taking no for an answer. I’ll see you out there once you get ready. Anything you want me to make you for breakfast before then though?”

“Hey!” The blonde shot up to a sitting position as Sey entered without warning. “You could knock, y’know.” She mumbled a pout as she ran a hand through her hair. Her black hood rested against her shoulders, but otherwise she seemed to never change her style of clothing, even going so far as to equip it as vanity items over any gear she picked up. As Sey continued on with a half-lecture, half-assignment, her frown only deepened. She wasn't sure if she was relieved for something to actually do, or annoyed with the thought of having to put in effort, but all Sey was going to see was the latter. “Well, you don't seem to be worried about walking in on a girl,” She saved the teasing comment for when he was finished. “but I could go for some pancakes.” Kooh simply stuck her tongue out at him as she swung her legs over the edge of the bed.

“I know, right?” The snow-haired player would reply in turn to her comment about knocking, though done in a more sarcastic manner, showing that he probably would not be doing that task in the future. Regardless though, he was able to seemingly convince her, though she would make sure to leave things with a joke before that was the case. Admittedly, her comment made his now-brunette eyes blink a couple times before he then chuckled a little bit, allowing the joke to process through his brain… Despite the fact that two player characters did show themselves bare to him in the game already, so Kooh’s statement did not really have too much weight on him. By this point in time, unfortunately, he was used to it. So he decided to mess around a little more. “Don’t act like you wouldn’t walk in on a blonde either.” Sey would return the joke back before acknowledging her order and preparing to make the pancakes like she ordered. “Oh, and make sure to make it quick as well. We don’t have much time. Probably until the afternoon, and you slept until… Noon I wanna say.”

Kooh blinked at his quip, feeling a tinge of annoyance at not receiving the reaction she wanted. She let him have the last word there, but gave another small pout as she brought her fingertips to her temple. “Yes, sir.” She muttered with a sarcastic, lazy salute. The girl picked herself up to her feet, shooing Sey out of the doorway to give her a few more moments of privacy before heading out. She let out a light sigh, surveying the cozy room with her back resting against the wooden door. For a moment she wondered if sleeping in the forest was so bad after all.

Closing the door behind her, the sound of Kooh’s boots against the hardwood floor announced her arrival into the main restaurant. The girl had her hood pulled back up, hands in her pockets, and quickly spotted Sey while she wore a bored expression. “Well, ready when you are, general.”

“All right squall. We are going to be fighting a boss monster known as avalanche. Its a not so dangerous monster that gives at least three skill points, which should level your lazy butt up.” Sey would explain as he would then toss over a new item to her. It was a small plastic bag with mini pancakes inside of them, though each one turned out to be bloated. That was because he pumped two pumps of maple syrup in the pancakes. Its an enjoyable sticky treat that when bitten inside of, the shock is pleasant as the sweet taste kisses the taste buds gently. Ah… He should not put so much thought into a meal though. “That’s breakfast. Now come on, we need to get to the fourth floor. Why not lead me to the teleporter? Im sure you know.” He explained as he would hold open the door for the lady, awaiting her passing so they could continue on.

Kooh frowned again as she lifted a hand to catch the bag from him. He was more sassy than usual today and she wasn't sure if he was just being more casual around her or if her lazy tendencies were actually touching a nerve. She was surprised that Sey was so accepting when they first met; she knew the stigma low-level players seemed to carry with them. She was a daily hindrance to the goal of nearly every person in Aincrad, after all. The blonde inspected the small pancakes a moment before allowing them to dissolve as the game placed them into her inventory. Kooh stayed quiet as she slipped her hand back into the comfort of her pocket and passed through the front entrance.

When the two appeared in Snowfrost Town, the girl braced herself for the chill wind that so often passed through the snowy town. Just as every other occasion where she'd visited the winter wonderland, she wasn't dressed for the weather in the slightest. At least in the desert her shorts and thin clothing made more sense. The girl just looked at Sey expectantly once they'd arrived, waiting for him to take the lead.

He did feel pity for her for the lack of skin being covered on her body. It was nothing he liked to see, but it was a choice for her when he offered something. After all, when it was coming down to trying to help a player with tough coaching, it was effective to be aggressive. But putting someone through the torture of being extremely cold was nothing he would like to see. “Here,” Sey would tell her as he would pluck out his lucky coat from his inventory. “Would you like to have this jacket for the quest? It’s pretty cold up here.” It would be a while before they found Avalanche, he himself did not know where it was after such a long time when Jonathan brought him to it. With this said, he would tilt his head to the side and look to await an answer from her. If she was so stubborn and dared to refuse the coat, he’d gladly put it away and not bother mentioning it again, and he certainly won’t put up a fight. After all, Sey knew what it was like to have a huge amount of pride. So while this occurred, he would continue to walk through the safe zone, looking for the exit.

Though she consistently tried to get used to the harsh conditions when visiting the fourth floor, Kooh wondered if it was impossible to condition her pixelated body beyond the game’s stipulations. What a pain. Light fragments came together as Sey held out an item of clothing, offering the girl a jacket. Kooh stared at it a moment as they continued their pace through the city, glancing up to Sey’s face for another long moment. She took the item from him and slid her arms into it, silently appreciating the new layer separating her upper body from the icy wind. Tucking her hands back into her pockets, the girl looked ahead of them as they grew closer to the city’s gate. She wondered if this would be anything like their last quest, and they would be wandering around in the middle of a frozen wasteland until nightfall.

As her mind wandered, she allowed herself another short moment of reflection. She was doubting herself, and being cautious. Sey had become more strict with her lately, and though she didn’t sense any severe annoyance from him, she was beginning to question her own choice of living arrangements. He was hard to read, and she wasn’t used to being around someone like that as often as she had. Not to mention the boy was more proactive than Itzal--she hadn’t thought such a person could exist.

As they continued to pursue, he would reflect a bit about what he did. Back in the past in the real world, this was the sort of training he had to go through. His father would not let him sleep in if he wanted to, telling the child to get up and start working. It was like that, and Sey wished he had a new father at first. But as he made it more of a habit, his body was getting used to it.  But that was not it. He full well knew it was a very effective method in getting someone to work hard enough to want things on their own. Of course, he was not going to be doing this sort of thing everyday like his father did to him, that would just be too cruel. In fact, if they were able to get the task done, he’d most likely apologize, explain what he did and why he did it, and then probably reward her the next morning. Make it more like a surprise though, waking her up in the morning early to perhaps reward her. Now what did she like… Well, why not ask? “Hey Kooh, what do you like that you don’t have right now? And no, sleep is not a proper answer.” He’d turn his head back over his shoulder to look towards her, seeing what she had to reply back with as they were nearing the mountain where the enemy would be located.

"Hmm?" The blonde mused as she glanced back at Sey. What kind of question was that? She offered a small smirk at his comment about sleep before a thoughtful frown gradually made its way to her features. They walked in silence for a bit longer before she would answer him. "Clothes. And music." She replied bluntly without offering much of an explanation. Kooh had thought about shrugging the question off or just telling him she wanted more food; something simple that required little to no extra effort from him and allowed her to keep to herself. But she was in a strange mood today.

If Sey was going to try offering her something, she might as well try to get something she actually wanted. While she'd adopted her signature style, keeping her simple cloth outfit equipped all this time despite any combat equipment she'd acquired, it was hard not to admit to herself that she missed the concept of fashion. At first she thought it was a blessing not having to spend all the time she was used to in keeping up her appearance. She also hadn't touched her Performer profession, despite their old conversation about it.

"Works for me. I'll see what I can get." He was probably going to aim with the current fashion she had, a hoodie and a pair of shorts. It was not going to be a lot of fun to browse through the shop in certain sections he shouldn't, but hey, he was trying to find some form of reward at the end of the day. If anything, he might as well get her to do more things for it. But nah, why would that be needed? They weren't strangers, so he was willing to let things slide a bit more. As they continued to press through the snow, he would then feel the presence of the monster nearing. "Seems like we are having a little bit of company." The snow-haired player would warn, crossing his arms as the chilly winds would begin to intensify around the both of them. He just stood there however, very much familiar with what they will soon face, and this time without even a bit of fear.

Kooh failed to resist the chill that ran down her spine as the icy winds picked up around them, swirling the light snowfall as specks of powdery white latched onto her hair and clothes. The girl instinctively put up an arm to cover her face, but soon settled for squinting against the harsh weather as the action did practically nothing to clear her vision. The snow and wind began to howl as if they'd quickly found themselves caught in the middle of a raging blizzard--or was that the howling of the boss monster they would soon be facing? Kooh wasn't sure where the sound originated from, but the blonde didn't have to wait long after Sey's comment hung in the air before the creature made itself visible.

In melee range, Avalanche would surely tower over them--whether the monster continued to trudge through the snowy field towards them or the duo closed the gap first, Kooh wasn't eager for her fists to meet solid ice. Still, she forced herself to shrug it off as she made a faked motion of cracking her knuckles. "Alright, should I go give him a hug, or would you like to do the honors?"

"Pfft. And here I thought hugs would be warm. No need, I'll have this ended quickly." His voice let out promise, as he did not really have the time to be dealing with this monster as of currently. It was his job to end it quickly so that Kooh could obtain some skill points, in hopes that she would level up and her stats would rise. The sudden disappearance of a player could mean many thing, he'd just like to assure himself that it was not due to death. The chilly winds would bring him back to reality as the monster aimed a giant frosted fist towards his direction. Sey swiftly jumped to the side to avoid being on the wrong end of the impact, much of the snow on the ground shaking in waves. Upon landing, he would spring his legs out towards the boss monster, slashing his spear with a red critical appearing above it's head. Following that hit came another critical, and he knew what was going to happen. With the ten other slashes following the same rhythm, he would cause the monster to shatter to multiple pieces, ending the quest already. "And that should be that. It's just as annoying a monster as ever."

Kooh lowered her stance a bit, realizing she had made the movement out of instinct only after her footing was stabilized. The girl couldn't help an annoyance in the back of her mind at how readily the motions of combat came to her, but quickly urged herself to shrug it off, telling herself that it was more practical to have the muscle memory. Especially if Sey was planning on taking her on more quests on higher floors.

Even so, her preparedness quickly proved futile as her snowy-haired roommate made quick work of their target with a string of critical blows. Seeing Avalanche's health drop rapidly, Kooh straightened her spine and shifted her weight onto her right leg, standing casually again while she slipped her hands in her pockets. "Yeah, you didn't need little 'ol me after all." She gave the man a small smirk as he distanced himself from the dissipating shards of light that used to be the quest monster. As Avalanche fell, the winds that had furiously swirled around them began to calm, and the snowfall ceased, leaving them in the calm after the storm. The blonde was grateful for the biting winds leaving her alone for now, bringing a hand up in front of her mouth as she let out a joking yawn. "So what now, boss?"

He would stretch his arms up in the air as she would comment that he did not need her. All right, perhaps that was true. But the reason why he did it was specifically for her. Well, her survival anyways. “Shhhhh, the system doesn’t need to know that.” Sey would reply with a smirk, chuckling on the inside before then turning his head to her with his eyes half-closed. “I think I’m satisfied. I’m sure you want clothes like the ones you are currently wearing, right?” The snow-haired player would ask as he would then look at his inventory to see how much col he had. A smile would lapse on his face as he was satisfied with the amount, it would barely dent his wallet after all it seemed. “You should have a lot more skill points in your inventory as well, if you haven’t checked already. Perhaps a level up or two if I recall your level correctly.”

“Oh, uhh," Kooh took a moment to look down at her outfit. While she had thought it was casual and cute, she had grown incredibly bored of wearing the same thing for as long as she had. Although everyday tasks like laundry didn't exist in this world, she still thought it was strange to hardly ever change her clothes. She frowned in thought before giving her chin a couple of taps with her forefinger. “Well, if you're over here offering to spoil me..." Truthfully, she didn't like the idea of accepting his offer. She was beginning to feel as though he was doing too much for her. Despite the conversations they'd had on more than one occasion where he would insist that he acted on personal reasons, the idea of being indebted to someone caused a knot to form in her stomach.

Pushing the anxiety from her mind, Kooh wore another small smirk. “Y'know, I wouldn't mind some leggings and a new shirt." It would have been too much trouble to fuss over his offerings. Perhaps if the profession she picked was good for anything she could create a few items for the man in return and the voice in the back of her head would leave her be. “Hmm," The girl made a couple of quick motions to pull up her menus as he questioned about her level. “Oh, yeah. Twenty-three that haven't been spent." She mumbled, looking at her bare list of skills. There were a few options that were grayed out, indicating that she hadn't invested in them, with only one highlighted skill--Martial Arts. Kooh made a slight face as she stared at the interface in front of her. One of the reasons she had skill points piling up was because she didn't know a thing about character building and RPGs, but she wasn't about to admit that.

"Cool." That was the only word to emit from his lips. Now the thing was, when he would do it. Now? Eh, he probably could do it later. He was satisfied with the work done today, and while he was a collected hard worker, he did work when it worked with his schedule. it was just simply the way things were ran. When the ginger would recollect her skill points, his lips would go from a smile to a neutral stance. "So many skill points. Spend them then, I'm sure whatever build you are going for could use a little love with the skills." And if not for that, he would have loved to have them. It was unfortunate how they were unable to be traded, as of currently, he was just scrapping for them. Many skills needed to be mastered, many of them have yet to even reach such a level. Battlehealing, search and detect, all those fun things. The struggle of a Balance build player was real indeed. Flicking his right pointer finger downwards, he would open up the menu. A soft poke would then reveal his statistics, and he would half-close his eyes when he saw the listed skills he had as of currently, not the most satisfied with the current look of them.

"Err...alright." Kooh replied simply. She stared at her menus for a moment, resisting a look of frustration as she glanced over the list of skills once more. 'Great, more homework.' The blonde swiped her hand through the air to dismiss the interface. It had been a mixture of laziness and lack of knowledge that had caused her to store up skill points. She felt busy enough having to go out and do quests, her level had been increasing much faster than she had expected. She had simply chosen her weapon skill at the beginning, but she had no idea if she should focus on leveling only that or if there were other things she should be focusing on. While she hadn't seen hardly any of them, Kooh had the idea that Sey had access to a variety of skills of his own. She could try to mimic his build, but she would still just be guessing unless she prodded him for exact details. No, that wasn't an option. She probably wouldn't care much for his 'playstyle' anyway. Perhaps she'd have to send off a message to Itzal one of these days; she could get advice from him pretty easily, and they'd likely part ways again for a while as they normally did. Whatever she chose to do, she knew she had to put the points into something before much time had passed, or Sey would likely be scolding her in a few days' time.

"Well, we are just about done here. Next order... Go back home and sleep. Or, well, whatever you wanna do. Nothing else from me really." For the moment anyways. Knowing himself, it won't be too long before he dragged her along. She was more awkward about losing her sleep, but he eventually grew out of the habit of sleeping too much. It was was he put things in perspective, and it was either him or the player killer who ends up living. Sey just wanted it to be himself. If he could save another player from choosing the unfortunate path of being weak, and maybe even one day surviving an encounter, then he fulfilled some form of purpose. "Well, I'm outta here. I can only be out here in the cold for so long. I'll be on floor something if you need me." he himself was not so sure as to where he would be or where he would end up. Perhaps fighting some more mobs or something, anything to help him progress. A frontliner he wanted to be, so he was going to become the first of his own kind.
